Game Name A Dungeon and a Dragon

Game System DnD 5e

Theme High Level Survival and Reward. A straightforward dungeon crawl culminating in a fight against an adult green dragon in his lair.

Flavour Explore caves filled with classic Dungeons & Dragons minions; and they are prepared.

Plot Summary Warning: " This adventure was designed to be challenging and potentially lethal. Disclaimer: I did not design this adventure." Setting Player Hook - - For reasons of your own, you have come to the town of Lumberton, a logging community east/southeast of Luskan. Upon arrival you find that the town has just been attacked by a Green Dragon. The local Ranger says there is a powerful group of adventurers nearby that you can join to go and seek out this Dragon and stop him before he returns and either enslaves the town or leaves it in ruins. Info What am I looking for? Playerwise - Excitement. How's that? Yes, excitement, or more to the point a "want" to be in the game and genuine interest to get to know your own character, and the other characters in the game; both from a character standpoint and a player standpoint. Here is a fine and awesome example of what I mean. This link is from a game I was in for over 2 years. The DM, and the players were fully invested, and you can tell by the posts as you read through them. There was adventure, danger, combat, treasure, character growth and character death. The player's played off each other and the DM very well, and in turn challenged each other and the DM to rise to a high level of Play by post. All involved truly loved the game, just ask them. In this game, which has just begun, the players have started, but so far three of them are having pie at a farmer's house where they went to get horses. The other two of the group are taking their time gathering information while one of them just tried to trick the other into offending a rather large bartender when the matter of an old bar tab came up. Now, if they get too far off track, I (as the DM) will get them back on of course, but this is their game. This type of play so far has challenged me, and I've had to rise to the "level" of their play. I could go on, but I hope you get my point. I don't want to give limits and instructions on what to post, or how long a post should be. If you are vested in the game, that will come out with almost every post. Can we recreate what I'm referring to? Not exactly, but we can recreate a sense of this in this game. So, that's all I ask of you as the player. Be excited, and be invested. You do that, and I'll do that, and we'll have an awesome game. Also, be nice. Life is short, and we all get enough ugliness from others out in the real world. Site rules apply on conduct. DMwise - I want to continue to learn all the "ins and outs" of 5E and this game will continue to do just that. I want to get more familiar with the system, and aside from following "the rulebooks" you, the player can teach me as well. If I'm wrong on a ruling, I want to know. How else am I going to get experience in the system? If I think you're wrong with something, it means I'm not sure, and it will be a learning experience for one or both of us as we figure it out. In the end, a rule may be bent or ignored for the greater good of the story. But, that will be my call. Details Setting: Forgotten Realms Starting Level: 13 Classes needed: Looking for one Wizard and one Bard character each. No others will be considered. Allowed Sources: Player's HandbookPHB, Dungeon Master's GuideDMG, Xanthar's Guide to EverythingXGtE, Tasha's Cauldron of EverythingTasha's, and Sword Coast Adventurer's GuideSCAG. No other sources, don't ask. Attribute Scores: We will be doing 4d6 drop lowest at creation. Or, you can take the 27 point route. Once the choice is made, there's no changing. Please do not roll here. Roll HERE! In the Game Forum. Note: I’ll allow rerolling only the second 1 in 4d6. You may reroll that "second" one if it comes up a one again until it doesn't. If you get a third or fourth one on the 3rd and fourth 4d6, that's fate and you're stuck with them. HP:Max at first level of Class, then Average or roll every level thereafter. You can alternate if you like as you level the character up, but it must be clearly stated when you do so, or you take the lowest. Alignments: Neutral or Good, but not true neutral Gear: Straight from DMG - 5,000 gp plus 1d10 x 250 gp, three uncommon magic items, one rare item, normal starting equipment. You may spend your gp at normal PHB prices for mundane items and common magic items at 100 gp per, including Healing Potions at 50 gp per. Pantheon: Forgotten Realms Multi-classing: Is allowed but limited to one. Main Class + Secondary Class. Also make it believable/PC-background relevant. Post Rate: Minimum of 1-3/wk as long as the "1" isn't consistent. This is very important as PbP is a LONG process. I am available most days during the week, and some on weekends. Party Size: Currently 3, looking to add 2 more. Resources: We will use RPGX for most everything including posts, sheets, and rolls. Will also be using Roll20 for maps. You don't need to really know how to use Roll20 so much, except to see enemies and understand the layout and mapping of the "dungeon." Applications What do I want in your app? Your typical app; Name, class, race, appearance, 5e background, two personality traits, ideal, bond, flaw. Post a pic of reasonable size, and be sure to add it again after you resize it to at least 250x250px, please so I can use it as a token on Roll20. A backstory that includes a few things: Their story, of course Their hometown/origin here in Faerun Why has your character decided to do this adventuring thing and how do they find themselves in the logging town? What is their over-arching goal? {Their goal does not need to be within the confines of this adventure, this can easily be a stepping stone in their journey. But having a driving force often brings more life into the character, I find.note} Q&A Question: I'm not all too familiar with the DnD Lore; apart from the pantheon, is there lore associated with Faerun that I need to be caught up on? Answer:You don't have to know much about the Forgotten realms lore for this game really. There will be references, and should travel go to a place your character is from or may have been, it will affect what they know. So it's really the regional stuff. In the PHB, it mentions different ethnicities and how they'd look, and names and such. That's all you'd really need to be generally familiar with. Any questions you have on this front, I'd be more than happy to give you links and info. Timeline Application Deadline - July 7th (10 PM CST) At game start, I will divide up all "gathered" or "scribed" information for the prison and divide it into 6 parts. I will give one part to each character and each will share what they've found with the others via roleplay in the Game thread. Once all the information is "out there", the journey to the prison will begin. Note: Character death is a possibility, and if it happens to your character, you will have the opportunity to either roll up another character, or step away and let someone else come in who put an app in before game start. Application Name: Ozwyn Dibblebit Race: Forest Gnome Class: Wizard Subclass: Abjurer Alignment: LN Background: Sage (I know, I know...) Elevator pitch: She's a retired professor of Abjuration, who lives in the area, and has joined the group because this dragon business is a threat to her home and community. Appearance: Standing around three and a half feet tall, Ozwyn is a sprightly, energetic woman with excellent posture, who nonetheless looks every one of her two hundred and ninety-eight years. Her long, white hair is a mess of tangles, since she seldom bothers to brush it these days. If asked, she'd likely say that she no longer cares enough about anyone else's opinion to warrant the effort. Never a big eater, the slenderness of Ozwyn's frame is usually disguised by the several layers of thick, warm clothing she wears in all weathers. Her heavily lined face tells a tale of a lifetime spent dealing with the stresses and frustrations of academia. Backstory: A middle daughter of a large and magically-inclined family, Ozwyn grew up in a small village just outside Baldur's Gate, not dissimilar in size to Lumberton. The family's home was modest, though every available section of wall was covered with bookshelfs, the totality of their collection rivalling any kept in the Upper City of Baldur's Gate or North Ward of Waterdeep, leading the younger Dibblebits to frequently refer to their residence as "Candleshack." For several generations, the clan had served as its own small magical college, each generation learning the secrets of wizardry from parent or elder sibling as soon as they were able to read or write. The quality of the education provided to the Dibblebit children was, no doubt, excellent, but it lacked one thing that students at Candlekeep or Silverymoon acquired: connections with the wealthy patrons who were so often needed to further a magical career. Lacking many other options, the Dibblebits often took to adventuring in order to pursue their fortunes. Ozwyn was no different, but soon found she hadn't much of a taste for the adventuring life. Fortunately, her travels soon brought her into contact with Fondrus Stonejaw, a Dwarven veteran of the Silverwatch. A veteran of many a battle, Fondrus had become a traveling axe-for-hire only because he found the danger to pay ratio considerably better than being part of a City Guard often tasked with fending off Uthgardt raiding parties. The pair bonded quickly over their mutual desire to retire from the life of fighting in ancient ruins. It took several years to raise the needed coin, but soon enough the two married and settled in Silverymoon. Fondrus took to tending their small vegetable garden, while Ozwyn - thanks to Fondrus' contacts within the city, and only slightly exagerrated accounts of their adventuring exploits - managed to secure an entry-level teaching position at the Lady's College within the Conclave of Silverymoon. Thus, the next couple of centuries passed in comfortable domestic harmony. While Ozwyn was perhaps not as good at teaching as she'd hoped, and remembered her own instructors as having been, the access to the great libraries of the Conclave allowed her to further her own research into protective magicks, which lent a sense of purpose to her life. The pair had one son, who grew of age and left for Candlekeep, where he himself became a respected scholar, with the slightly unfortunate nickname of "Shorty." Eventually, well into her third century, Ozwyn was widowed. Satisfied with her contribution to the sum total of humanoid knowledge, and not wanting to remain in the familial home which reminded her of Fondrus, Ozwyn took her own - impressively large- book collection, and retired to the small village of Drummingford, four or so miles Or whichever direction takes you away from the dungeon!south of Lumberton. Here, she would remain undisturbed with her mementoes from her adventuring days, her books and her vegetable patch - for as long as she had left. Or so she thought. Around a year after moving to the area, Ozwyn was happily gardening when she saw a dragon fly overhead, followed by the unmistakeable sound of mayhem. Letting out a huge sigh, Ozwyn headed inside, and grabbed her old knapsack, which had aged remarkably well. One thing was clear to her - there was no way she'd be getting any peace and quiet as long as the dragon was loose. It didn't seem like a problem she'd be able to leave to others, either. So, despite knowing in advance she'd probably come to regret this, Ozwyn set off towards Lumberton as quickly as her short (and slightly creaky) legs would carry her. Bond: Folks are nice around here. They say hello int' mornin', and they don't ask too many questions. It'd be a shame if anything were t'happen to them, you know. Ideal: Knowledge. For it's own sake, mostly. No better feeling than learning something you didn't know before. Flaw: If I had to choose between saving a life and preserving a rare book... well, I'd at least have to think about it. Traits: I'll happily explain anything. Once. I like to take my time with problems. I think before I act, because, well, there's not always going to be time afterward, now is there?

Half-Elf Bard

A half-elven bardic fellow of Chondathan descent, Dravin celebrates fair skin, medium-length blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He wields a rapier and dagger, along with a lute born of artistic choice. He dresses in dark colors, speaks in limericks and smiles slyly.

Dravin hails from lands west of Luskan. He’s traveled here to escape an angry noble who wants his blonde-haired head, all over an otherwise well-delivered joke.

“Those of noble birth…they’ve no sense of humor!”

So comes our bardic fellow, to make a name for his entertainer self, possibly earning a spot by the hearth, playing music and telling tall tales to patrons. Maybe he can eventually earn enough coin from adventuring with kind-minded blokes, to up and BUY the place! But we’ll see what the cards hold!

@SnakeOilCharmer - go ahead and roll up the character if you would and create a character sheet. I won't hold you to the sheet, but I would like to see how you perceive the mechanics of the character to look. Go to the Forum here and the dice thread for any rolling you need to do.

@Geldar - once you have the application complete per the guidelines above, either PM me or reply here that your Bard is ready to be looked over. Same goes for the character sheet as I stated above to SOC.

I do love high-level play (having done levels 1-4 to death and back), but wizard & bard are not usually my style.

Eventually Mals father was overwhelmed and forced to Dishonorably discharge her from The family when He and the step mother found her performing rituals on her older step sisters. Mal cared little for the banishment knowing years prior it was inevitable. Her birth mothers lineage was all that was left for Mal. Something within her tugged at the unknown, propelling her forward looking for a history lost to her. Not un aware to her darker tendencies, Mal often wondered if her mothers magic runs through her, and if she was akin to black magic. Traits most familiar with witches and warlocks. Mal now adventures her way across faerun In search of answers, but also self reliance and power as a whole. Why am I in this logging town: I heard rumors an elder from this village had information of a powerful witch that might lead me to information of my mother. Personality: Mal is a little edgy and outside the box. She’s Quirky and darker than your typical noble birth. She’s a seductive temptress with a full range of soul stealing and heart breaking skills, eldritch and otherwise. Description: Mal is a unique beauty, boasting a wild feminine frame with long legs and a sporty, provocative mid section. Atop her head rests a broad and flimsy wizarding hat, with Long blonde locks cascade her back and deep green eyes hiding behind a natural shadow of mascara. She wears a compilation of green and blue robes wrapping a tight mini skirt with thigh high leggings as pants. Mal is never without her bag, spell book and staff.
