Korvik Frostvein Skyreach Name: Korvik Frostvein Skyreach Race: Goliath Class: Ranger / Rogue Clan: Skyreach Background: Hermit Personality Traits: 1) I often get lost in my own thoughts and contemplation, becoming oblivious to my surroundings. 2) I’ve been isolated for so long that I rarely speak, preferring gestures and the occasional grunt. Ideals: Self-Knowledge: if you know yourself, there’s nothing left to know. Bond: I entered seclusion to hide from the ones who might still be hunting me. I must someday confront them. Flaw: I harbor bloodthirsty thoughts that my isolation and meditation failed to quell. Appearance & Personality: Korvik is an elder of the Skyreach clan: seventy winters of eternal snow and ice. Two fingers from his right hand are missing, and the remaining are twisted by scars of frostbite. He is bald, with a snow-white beard. He has the thick chest of a goliath, and although he is diminished in size due to age, he still stands at over seven feet tall. He carries a well-worn sword on his back, and another on his side, both hilts wrapped in leather. He is pensive, and determined to a fault. He is not to be crossed. He is a goliath who can survive; a goliath who has survived when all the rest of his clan has fallen. Written Background: There are not many left who witnessed the destruction of the Skyreach Clan. When Korvik was ten, Thalorgarax descended on the Windspire range. Everyone Korvik knew was killed. Those who survived went into hiding or joined the other clans. Afterward, Korvik made his way in the world as only a goliath child could: deep inside the mountain caves, alone on the snow swept mountains. He hunted at night. He survived out of spite, to show that he could endure. The earliest winters were the hardest. The cold didn’t bother him, even when his fingers and toes turned black, but the hunger nearly drove him mad. When he was thirteen he amputated the pinky finger from his right hand, pressing a dull blade down, gritting his teeth, and listening, almost curiously, at the crunch of bone. Two years later, it was his ring finger. He was more careful after that. The death of his clan was hard enough for the young goliath to bear, but the betrayal of the Frostfang was too much. With nothing else to fill the endless days and nights, he took it upon himself to fight the Frostfang, one goliath at a time; hunting them at night, picking off careless watchmen, ambushing small groups as they traveled. He was known to some by name, and by reputation to most; a shadow in the mountains. But beyond the Frostfang, something worse lurked in his mind, and in the mountains: the great white beast of his childhood. Korvik was growing older. He had little to lose now. Death no longer frightened him; it would come for him soon either way. He had reckless thoughts in his old age. Everything he had done to fight the Frostfang had come to naught. But if he could reach Thalorgarax, maybe there was a way... 30 Minute (or less) RP Sample: Korvik stood in the ruins of his village amidst the towering peaks. The dark windows of the town watched as three goliaths moved quietly through pre-dawn light. In a moment they stood silently facing Korvik. He nodded to each, pulled the fur hood back from his head, and ran his bandaged hand over his smooth scalp. The older of the three goliaths stepped forward. "Korvik, your hand," he said, barely audible above the sound of the wind. Korvik stepped forward and held out his hand. The goliath reached out to Korvik and began to unbandage the young goliath’s hand. Once the purple-stained leather was removed, the older man looked at the twisted blackened nubs of fingers within. "You did that?" he asked Korvik. Korvik nodded. "Maybe there is still hope for the Skyreach then. If we have a few like you who survive." He wrapped both his hands around Korvik’s. The older man’s hands felt warm, rough, and hard. "We will call you Frostvein. Carry the name with pride." Korvik looked at the other two who stared stonily ahead, then began to rebandage his hand. It was a great honor, but it wasn’t how he’d dreamed it would be. As though sensing his thoughts one of the other men stepped forward. "There will be no feast for you tonight. But take this." He pressed a horn into the young goliath’s unbandaged hand. "Warm your blood tonight and celebrate." He looked at the ground as he said it, unable to meet Korvik’s eyes. Korvik took the horn and felt a gentle sloshing inside of it. "Korvik Frostvein Skyreach, someday you may be the last of the Skyreach Clan. Or maybe the first of a new Skyreach Clan. You could be…" the man’s voice trailed off in the wind as though he thought better than to say what he was thinking. But Korvik knew what he was going to say. That he could be a Skyreach Clan hero. The last of the Skyreach. Or one of the last. But to label a goliath a hero who had done nothing more than cut off his own frostbitten fingers was too much. A hope unproven. Korvik nodded one last time at each of the men in thanks, turned, and walked into the wind with his furs flapping behind him as he went. Application Part 2: Sorry, I know my application is late…

Welp, I wasn't expecting to be back here so soon, but here we are. Unfortunately, IRL is a far more dangerous beast than any dragon, and two of our players have had to commit their attention there. In other words..

Recruitment is Open for 1 Week!

I'm looking for two would-be heroes to join our three active heroes (more about them later) in this Slay the Dragon, Save the or at least the Goliath equivalent of itKingdom one shot. I'd like to make player decisions on the morning of Monday, October 28th.

All the same rules apply as during the original application, with a few modifications:

• No "who would you like to play with" portion of the application
• No wizards! They're rare in this setting, and we've already got all the wizard we can handle
• Preference towards unrepresented clans. We already have characters from the Iceheart Clan and Frostwalker Tribe. That means I'm looking for characters from the Stormwatchers, Skyreach Clan (or what's left of it), Pinewhisper Tribe, the Crystalline Keepers, and traitors of the Iceheart Clan.

There were a ton of amazing applications during the initial recruitment, so anyone still interested is welcome to reapply with their character. New applicants are, of course, also welcome!

Our current party consists of:

• Galmath, the White Dragonborn Barbarian of the Frostwalker Clan
• Uthal, the Goliath Paladin of the Iceheart Clan
• Ungalu, the ancient Goliath Wizard of the Iceheart Clan

Ideal: Independence. When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny. (Chaotic) Bond: I'll never forget the crushing defeat my company suffered or the Frostfang Warriorenemies who dealt it. Flaw: I made a terrible mistake in battle that cost many lives—and I would do anything to keep that mistake secret. Her connection to the Spirit of Whispering Shadows came from the times she was allowed to patrol in the shadows of the forest. Hanyin Name:Hanyin Ironspeaker   Race: Goliath Class: Fighter (Rune Knight) Clan: Stormwatchers Mechanical Background: Clan crafter (SCaG) Appearance & Personality: A mature individual, old enough that his parents lived through the calamity that was the arrival of the Frostreaper. Hanyin was strong and sturdy of build, albeit not as strong and nimble as he was. His features softened with his ageing, some of his earliest tattoos were beginning to fade, but the fire in his heart was still strong and blazing. His demeanor was steady, pragmatic and warm. He'd found comfort within himself, no longer feeling the rash urgency of youth. Great satisfaction was taken from the items he'd forge, be it armour or a saucepan. They were forged with pride and a commitment to serve his adoptive Clan. Written Background: Hanyin's family had been of the Skyreach Clan, fortunate enough to have been elsewhere as the dragon attacked, but dishonored not to have died fighting it alongside their kin. They did all that they could and fled the devastation they'd found, taking refuge amongst the Stormwatchers. Who had welcomed a small number of survivors, and those who had returned home to find nothing but rubble and corpses, dismembered or frozen in place. It was to this new life than Hanyin was born. Raised in the ways of the Stormwatchers but with the traditions and history of the Skyreach. It was in the name of his family's history and tradition, that on the cusp on his manhood he was sent to study under the dwarves, much as his mother had and his grandfather had done. Always the firstborn went to master craftsmanship under the greatest of craftsman. The Dwarves were long lived, Hanyin studied under the same smith who'd instructed his mother, who'd trained alongside Hanyins grandfather. The families now intertwined in their history. After 15 years under the mountains, his heart felt the call to return home. His apprenticeship not quite complete, and his craft still falling short of the artistry that was dwarven craftsmanship, Hanyin was still a very accomplished smith. 30 Minute (or less) RP Sample: It had been less than a tenday since Hanyin had left the great halls of the Dwarves behind him, still mixed in his emotions. Disappointment and failure lingered, having left 5 years before his apprenticeship was complete, but comforted in knowing his heart, and having the blessing of his master. Trekking through the rocky hillscape that marked the entrance to the windspire mountains, the whistle of the wind, that was so familiar in his youth, was again, audible. In the distance Hanyin's eyes could see a storm rolling in, and it was time to find somewhere to shelter. Squeezing himself through a crevice, Hanyin had found himself in a large cavern. One that had clearly been inhabited in years past. The storm seemed endless, the whistling and chill whipping in through the same narrow crack that he'd entered through. Despite over a decade mostly spent beneath the ground, it was clear this was no ordinary storm, as day passed into night, and again into day. The storm was relentless and clearly the doing of the Frostreaper. Time was only marked by the number of redundant torches that lay, amassed in a pile. As the days passed, the goliath explored his surroundings, recognising the writing painted onto the walls, it was too crude to have been other goliaths, so giant? He'd assumed. Hanyin had found an area where there was once a large fire, and a huge worked stone slab. The dents and scorching were reminiscent of the anvils in the dwarven forge. Closing his eyes and running his fingers across the stone anvil. In his mind he could feel the sweat, the heat and humidity of a forge, the sound of the fire roaring as someone stood on the bellows, and the unmistakable sound of metal pounding metal. This felt special, far beyond the comfort it gave him, but almost like he was meant to be here. Much as our minds convince us of our own cosmic destiny. Hanyin began reading the writing upon the forge walls, some covered and obscured with soot. However enough could be seen to understand, much of what he read felt simplistic after his years in a dwarven forge, but there were new things to learn here too. Things that felt exciting, like the incorporation of runes, powerful runes, not just ones akin to a masters mark. More days had past, and Hanyin had not noticed the end of the storm until it had already been two full days since. He was evermore eager to find his way back to his Clan, now the sky had cleared and incorporate the runes into his work. His disappointment and sense of failure long forgotten as he squeezed himself back into the open, continuing his journey home.
