Application - Lewin uth Ulfric, Knight of Solamnia Name: Lewin uth Ulfric (known as Lewin Firemane) Alignment: Lawful Good (edging towards Neutral Good) Race: Human (variant) Class: Fighter Background: Knight of Solamnia Personality Traits: I never know when to give up. I worry that every time I have to compromise on The Measure I take another step away from The Order. Ideal: The Oath; "Est Sularus oth Mithas" (My honor is my life) Bond: I will redeem the good name of my master at any cost to myself. Flaw: I will never openly admit it, but I doubt that Paladine and the other gods ever existed. I feel bitter about the way that The Order is treated these days. Appearance Tall, broad-shouldered, with fiery red hair and a full beard, Lewin would stand out in most places on Ansalon. Obviously a warrior, he wears unadorned chain mail under a heavy cloak and carries a plain but well-maintained sword at his side. He is softer-spoken than might be assumed from his appearance, and is in the habit of thinking first before opening his mouth. Similarly he walks slowly, eyes taking in everything around him and sizing up potential problems before they happen. Personality A Knight should be serious. He should be compassionate, honest, courteous, adamant, trusting, valorous, generous, moderate, pure and loyal. That is a lot to live up to, and as Master Renolt has pointed out, there is no Knight in the Order, or even in its history, who could boast he exemplified all of these qualities, and if he did he would then run afoul of the stricture for modesty. Lewin can at least be honest with himself. He is less compassionate than he would like to be, since compassion is one of the first things to go when you are routinely lambasted and derided for things you have no control over. Similarly he could not claim to be completely honest, in fact he hides his membership of the Order most of the time, despite the fact that doing so directly contravenes one of the clearest sections of The Measure. He would give himself credit for being courteous (to those who deserve it), adamant (when necessary), valorous (on occasion), moderate (mostly because he seldom has the means for extravagance), pure (see ‘moderate’) and loyal (this one needs no qualifier, in fact in his darker moments Lewin might suggest that an over-abundance of loyalty is his own greatest failing). That leaves ‘trusting’ and ‘generous’ as the two knightly virtues that Lewin struggles with the most. He could justify, at least to himself, his lack of trust for much the same reason that he finds it difficult to be compassionate; people constantly prove that they are untrustworthy. But a good knight should be prepared to give everything he has to those who need it, and that is hard to do. What if he gives away his last copper and then finds somebody who needs it even more? Or what if he needs it? He can’t exactly do much good in the world if he is unable to buy himself a crust. Gone are the days when the community would take care of a destitute knight, after all. Backstory If only he had been born before the Cataclysm Lewin’s future would have been assured. Ulfric uth Shannan, resident in the town of Starmont in GaardlundSired by a respected knight, squire to Sir Renolt Steelspur of Maelgoth in Hinterlunda scion of an influential family in the Order, in those days knighthood and then a steady advance through the ranks would have been a certainty. But things were different now. The Order was faltering, the faith of the people they were sworn to protect all but lost. These days even admitting you were a Knight would earn you derision, or worse. And so instead of riding around Ansalon with his Master, seeking adventure and any chance to do good deeds, Lewin skulks around Solamnia at the behest of a Knight whose outspoken views on the need to reform the Measure for this new age have seen him ostracised from the inner circle of the Order. Even the good name of Steelspur, a family who have been at the centre of the Order for centuries, has not been enough to protect Sir Renolt from opprobrium. What chance would Lewin, a mere second-generation Order member, have if he were exposed? He could certainly wave goodbye to any chances of becoming a full knight. So why does he do it? Why does he risk everything for what is, he has to admit, a lost cause? Simple; because it is the right thing to do. Responding to rumours of 'goblins' gathering in the east, Sir Renolt and Lewin have been searching for any evidence to support or disprove the assertions, which was how Lewin had come to visit the home of Ispin Greenshield. The man had proven a splendid host, providing food and wine aplenty to go with his many tales, but verifiable facts were more difficult to come by. Lewin had continued on his way giving barely a thought to the encounter. It was just one more false trail among many. Character Secrets Known to Lewin; Not known to Lewin; Sir Renolt Steelspur, Lewin’s Master, has led him to believe that for Sir Renolt to disguise himself so that nobody knows he is a Solamnic Knightthe special dispensation granted by the Council also covers his squire. This is actually far from certain and it would not be difficult to argue the opposite. About The Player 1) What is it you would like to get out of the game? What kind of things appeal to you in a PbP game? I'm a sucker for character development and PbP is great for that. You can get totally invested in a character, watch them struggle, endure and grow as they react to the other PCs and whatever the DM throws at them. Often they will go in completely unexpected directions and I love it. 2) What sort of things do you not want to see in a PbP game? As long as the game remains within the site rules I should be happy. 3) What is it that made you want to apply to this game? I am in Elanir's Dragonlance game and having a blast there, and I have always had a real soft-spot for Ansalon. 4) Do you prefer PbP games that are predominantly focussed on combat, or predominantly focussed on role-play? Or a mixture of the two? Over my years on the site I have found that I prefer role-play. Combat is important in most adventures because it is the main struggle for the characters, providing high-stakes challenges.

For the sake of being transparent, it is very unlikely I will provide any detailed in-depth reviews for this one, but I will look over the apps and contact you directly if there is anything I feel doesn’t fit or needs changing, hope that’s ok for you all.

Alignment-wise I put Jasra as 'Neutral ' because I see her as a Red Robe and tend to link illusions and such with Lunitari but she's a lot nicer than Raistlin hence her 'Chaotic Good' tendencies.

Also I doubt White Robes know how to make money.

Wow, seeing it in a tabled list adds some perspective. So many good characters being put forward for this game, very exciting.

I added alignment to Kellis (CG), is a kender really anything but chaotic lol? I wrote like a whole big thing for RP sample but it's not really realistic to how I would be portraying the character in regular RP so I'm reworking it a bit as I do still like some parts so should be done soonish.

The secrets are tough, I keep thinking some up but they are super cliché.
