I played MTG starting in 5th grade and played off and on until about 2014. My favorite decks were Green/White. I especially enjoyed playing aura decks.

I've been playing a gestalt campaign on discord, based on MTG. I've been playing that game for 1.5 years, still know next to nothing about MTG lol

Nice! I guess you don't have to know everything about MTG to play in a campaign. I played in a MTG based game once. It was pretty fun. I used black and green mana. My favorite part was summoning creatures and using mana powers to have epic battles. It worked in RL but I don't think it would fit well in PbP.

I learned the basics of MtG when my nephew was a teenager. He got into it and so when I had him over, I had him teach me. Neither of us ever got terribly serious about it and I haven't played it since, but it was/is a great game.

Well there are 5 colors based on themes... white = life , black = death , red = fire , blue = water , green = forests
there are 3 types of cards, lands, monsters, and spells, (also artifacts but they're kinda a niche thing). Each color has it's own flavor and style of play...

Life decks are all about summonging angels, clerics, and healing your own life pool back up after you take hits. their monsters cost a little more on average but are strong, which is why they have healing to try and counter the slow build of the deck.

Death decks are all about poisons and vampirism... total edge lord decks... they can also destroy your own lands preventing you from bringing out your better (read more expensive) cards against them.

Fire decks are all about dealing big spell damage through cards that you can pump up by using more and more mana (land) cards.

Water decks are about using sea creatures. They have the ability to counter-spell your opponent so that they can't actually get any use out of their cards.

Forest decks are about cheap animals and elves that are relatively weak but you can get out quickly to deal a death by a thousand cuts your enemy... they also have spells to buff their monsters to deal more damage, so you think it's a small hit and suddenly they take a 1/4 of your health when you werent looking.

Then you can use multi-colored decks, these cards require 2 or more types of lands to use and have a golden border. They are generally more utility but can be very powerful if used right. I liked using the black monsters mixed with the green ability to pump up my creatures for bigger hits but I also had some decent red/white (gold) cards that had neat abilities

I played MTG exactly once. I played Yu-Gi-Oh until my boyfriend got tired of me always winning. He beat me the very first game. Then I learned his strategy. And then he never won again. I felt bad for him. Maybe I should have lost a few times on purpose. I am not really very competitive, generally speaking.

I can see how losing that consistently can get old. Maybe you could go over the strategy with him? If he's not caught on, the perspective might make him a better player.

I guess I should have said, "former boyfriend". But yeah... that would have been a good idea. Though, I wasn't sure how much was him or his deck of cards. Maybe that's just the way he had to play because of what cards he had. I'll never know.

I started playing Yugioh as soon as the cards dropped in the early 2000's and I still buy cards to this day. I don't get to play much, but I get them. I'm starting to get frustrated with where the game is going though and might move back to MTG or pick up a newer game like Elestrals.

Just taking a quick second to point out the advertisement says application deadline of October 15th... I'm assuming that it's supposed to be next week? We have 5 applications, but nothing new since the 3rd so I'm not sure if we're going to get a lot of last minute applications or not?

PenBeast - Fangpi - Monk
HexCursed - Lalla - Clockwork Sorceress
TacoBoB - Stabitha - Barb
Alemar - Trevor - Druid
Dingbat - Brutus - Graviturgy Wizard (Explorer's Guide to Wildmount)

Welcome to the Dreamlands my intrepid dreamers. We have enough people to play, so I'll just cut things short and accept you all in.
