Expertise is (in 2014) a feat or class ability, not simply double proficiency. If you have double proficiency by RAW you are supposed to choose a second related ability to shift one of those proficiencies into (DM's call as to what is related)

The effect of Expertise lets a character add twice their proficiency bonus to a specific skill. That much is true. Some character classes and subclasses get Expertise as a feature. However, having proficiencies from 2 different sources does not create expertise. They do not stack. So, getting Perception from being both an Elf and a Sailor (for example) is only a waste.

@Everyone: About AI art. First, don't think too hard about that. My personal belief is that AI is pretty terrible for our society in general and bad for artists. That's why I asked. Second, don't use an AI generator for your art. That's all. BG3's character creator was made by people, so it's Human-created art. And even if you use a more robust character creator that allows for better customization, it's not AI. Third: "How do I know if you used AI?" Honestly, I don't. AI generated art often has a fairly specific look and feel. But I'm no expert. I'll just have to rely on your sense of honor.

I'm glad I went back and checked my pic. Turns out, it was AI generated...oops! I changed to another pic, one I'd actually originally preferred but was too lazy to crop. That'll teach me!

See? It's all fun and games 'til someone uses an AI.

I like the mechanics of Charleton, but I'm not happy with the tricking/deceiving of the innocent/gullible. So, I will re-skin Frank to emphasize the Fence/Forger/Smuggler aspect of his background and remove the Con-Man stuff. Frank plays fast and loose with the law but emphasizes taking the rich and powerful (e.g., fencing stolen merchandise, smuggling luxury goods, or selling forgeries) more than the common man.

In general terms, that sounds fine. But I'm not going to know anything about the Battle of Brine Marsh or who Admiral Fofhadkifehg is.

I definitely need help with the magic item, I've only been in deadbeat games where magic items were rare and chosen by the DMs, it would be thematic to have something to do with books, reading or travelling (thanks for the help)

When comes to official DnD2024 from what I've seen there aren't many common magical items - I suggest potion of healing, always helpful

As for magical books, I'll have to look it up when I get home but I recall that there is an Enduring Spellbook that is immune to water damage and such.
