Unfortunately, in these situations I find the game usually dies, but occasionally one survives. It also bodes a little better that he left a message about being gone, rather than just ditching. I've had a DM come back after several months and ask if anyones up for coming back to the game.

I'd be sort of bummed if the game dies... I spent a lot of time on Scarlet.

Yeah, I know. My most badass character ever... could likely take all my other characters on at once (well, if the 12th level sorcerer was out of the mix) and I haven't even gotten to do anything extraordinarily badass with him yet.
