Did I miss something? Because I don't see a post from you. My last update was the last post in the game thread.

I should have one on the last page, second post. A move action with total defense.

I apologize - I missed that. I should have done that last update and stopped at Halton's turn. Oh, well, I'll fix it on Thursday.

Honestly, I don't expect you to do an update just for my action. I think we'll all live without knowing the riveting results of my defensive maneuver =P

Lol, no - Thursday I'm going to at least finish the round. Including your action, but also Halton's and Able's, and as much of Round 6 as people have posted for. If Keiran hasn't posted, Halton will take a full defense.

Oh, I misread your last post. I thought you said that you should have done the update yesterday, but you would fix it on Thursday. Now I'm reading it as you should have done my action last update and then stopped at Halton's, which is what I assume you meant. So I guess my previous post made absolutely no sense, and I'm just currently incapable of rational thought xD

Hey I gotta question. I know it doesn't effect any of us right now(which is why it's a good time to bring it up), but what if your armor lists that you have special protection in certain areas. Would that then nulify some of the critical strike stuff. For instance I highly doubt anyone could actually sever the hand of someone wearing a full metal gauntlet. They could crush it critically, but they couldn't sever it completely and it would even be usable if you had the proper medical attention and say "special" healing(*cough* magic).

By that logic, wearing full plate should protect from all damage... but it doesn't. Damage gets through, from breaks in the armor or simply puncturing through the metal with great force. Since a critical represents a particularly devastating blow, it is entirely possible it could cut through - or hit a gap in - even a thick piece of armor. So, yes, a hand in a gauntlet can be severed. This is actually probably the better option for you, since if I allowed it to be crushed in the gauntlet instead of cut off, you'd have to find some way to actually cut off the armor - a crushed gauntlet wouldn't allow you to easily extract your hand, making it really hard to heal. Severing it, on the other hand, leaves the hand intact, which can be pressed against the stump and stitched on before magic is applied.

Have any of you ever heard of crush syndrome?
That's why armor doesn't protect from all damage. Energy gets though, even if its reduced. If your hand was in a full plate gauntlet and someone smacked it hard with a hammer, the shockwave would travel though the metal and into your hand, damaging the linings of your blood vessels and causing your hand to literally bleed out internally. A week later you get gangreen and a week after that they're cutting off your hand so you don't get blood poisoning. That's why damage gets though. Not just the chinks in the armor itself...which full plate has few but the ones it has are big. |

Okay, I get that... but do you want me to expand the critical system to be based on worn armor and weapon used? I'd honestly prefer to scrap it entirely than make it that complex, since there are over 30 kinds of armor (including shields) and at least 9 kinds of damage (3 phyiscal, 5 elemental energy, negative energy) - not to mention specialized types from a few spells. While there would be some overlap, that's still a lot of work for a system that might not get used all that often. So I can either leave it as is, and say it is abstracted (as armor and hit points already are) - so a hand crushed to uselessness is treated as being severed - or I can drop the system and you lose both the potential drawbacks and potential benefits.
Of course, Ultimate Combat might give us something even better, but that doesn't come out for some time.

I'm fine the system as it is; if you consider it to be important from a roleplay standpoint, we can still specify in character even if the mechanics behind it are abstracted as Pilgrim mentioned.
On an entirely unrelated note, when does Ultimate Combat come out? |

Sorry for disappearing everyone. I'm a terrible procrastinator, and that's not good when one is going to school and working... I'm horribly behind with my school work right now. I'll try and get a post up tomorrow before work.

In other news, Keiran has decided to drop so I will be phasing Halton out of the game as I did with Drubner. I guess with only 5 PCs I have to reduce challenge rating accordingly. (This last fight was, of course, CR 3, which was APL+1.) Update tonight!

Correction - I just reread. Keiran is considering dropping, so I'll assume not for now.
