[Game Thread] Part Two: The Attack on the Thorn River Camp

Kai and Bren Bren nods at Kai's suggestion and follows him off along the northern trail on patrol. The rays of the morning sun come cascading through the dense forest illuminating the trail in a myriad of colors. Both young man and halfling notice the change in the forest as nocturnal animals find places of respite for the day and others come alive to begin their day. The two find nothing else out of the ordinary as they begin their patrol.

The Interrogation Charlotte steps to the front and kneels before the bandit as she studies him for a moment, before saying "May I have your name? Or do you want to be difficult like your other friends? You saw that Bren is alive, because he listened to us.. But the others, those in the forest. They didn't want to listen, and I'm assuming that you know what happened to them.."

Responses "We all saw what you did to the others," begins the larger of the men, a grizzled veteran about forty winters old. "We saw how they were bound before you cut their throats and then burned their bodies." "I'm Volkan," continues the man. "What are you offering here?"

Offers Charlotte shakes her head before glancing over at Ursion and Yarro, remembering that day before looking back at the two and saying "I'm offering you both a choice, either cooperate with us and answer our questions with a chance of being set free to go far away from here. OR... you can make this difficult and be turned over from me to them, before being taken back and turned over to the soldier's who I am sure will be arriving soon if they haven't already." She then leans down and speaks quietly to the two, not letting the others hear and interrupt.

Volkan and Mikel "What do you want to know?" asks the other man, a younger man than Volkan, in his twenties with a handsome face and fearful eyes. "I'm Mikel, by the way." "We have nothing to hide," continues Volkan, "we'll tell you what you want to know."

Words Charlotte looks between the two men and says "How many are still left at your camp, and what traps do they have? And who are they? Are there any prisoners that you have captured?" She looks from one man to the other, trying to see how honest they were going to be.   Dice Sense Motive: 1d20+4 (9)+4 Total = 13

Replies Volkan laughs as Charlotte fires off her questions. Once she finishes he looks up at her with a smile and answers, "We are all that is left. You've killed everyone else. We all left camp at Felton's warning and came out here hoping to defeat you all. You see how that turned out." Volkan chuckles some more while Mikel adds his own thoughts. "Volkan is telling the truth, there are no more bandits back at the camp. No prisoners either, at least none that we captured. There were two elves there when we left. A warrior that had captured some female elf. They were in their tent when we left. Can't vouch for whether they are still there now, of course." "And there are no traps," continues Volkan, Kressle never trusted this drunken lot to have traps around that might be sprung on the wrong fool. The camps wide open. Bren can tell you that there aren't any traps, we haven't done anything since he left." Charlotte doesn't sense any misdirection or lies coming from either of the men. It does appear that Kressle's group has been vanquished and these men have nothing left to bargain with or protect other than their lives. Volkan wipes the smile off his face and then looks up at Charlotte, "We've been honorable in answering your questions. Will you now be honorable with us?" He looks between Charlotte, Darian, Yarro, and Ursion as he asks.

Final Questions Charlotte looks between the two men and says "I have two more questions before that. What can you tell us about these elves? Anything at all? And, what do you intend to do if you go free?"   Dice Sense Motive: 1d20+4 (20)+4 Total = 24

Volkan Responds "I can't tell you much about the elves really," begins Volkan as he screws up his face in thought. "They came in with two others about three days ago. The next day the other two left and headed north. The warrior and the girl stayed behind. The warrior looks very capable of taking care of things if you know what I mean. I wouldn't want to cross him." "There were whispers among the others that she wadn't no prisoner, if you know what I mean," interjects Mikel. Volkan frowns at this interruption, "All idle speculation from men too long without seeing or being with a woman," answers Volkan. "As to what I pledge on doing should you let us go free," here Volkan looks at Mikel who nods in agreement. "You let us go and we'll pledge our swords to you. Truth is most of us were tired of Kressle and her craziness and that Stag Lord is even more crazy than her. I want no part of any of them any more. Whatever you want us to do, Mikel and I will do it." Once again, Charlotte senses no intention to deceive from either man.

Hired Blades Charlotte thought over their offer for a minute, studying the two of them as she searched for any sign of dishonesty in them. After a few moments she finally said "Alright, I will accept your pledge. But, should you lie then I will not stop them from chasing you down. Now then.." She then moved behind the elder man, untying his hands before moving over to the younger one and doing the same."Now, let's move onto the camp."

Released As Charlotte releases the men, Volkan kneels before her and says, "I am Volkan Berengier and this is Mikel Hardi. We are not adventuring types but we pledge our swords to you, m'Lady. We thank the gods for your mercy." Mikel kneels as well and offers a similar pledge. The men then rise and rub at wrists that have been bound all night, thankful to have blood circulating easily through them once more. As the men stand before the others, Bren and Kai come walking back from the northern trail to join everyone.

New Companions Charlotte nods in acknowledgement of both pledges before saying "You are both welcome, and I am Charlotte Lebeda.." and should either show recognition of her Noble House then she would confirm their thoughts by saying "Yes, House Lebeda..." She then seems to inspect them before asking "Now, are either of you injured? Or hungry and thirsty?"

Additional swords As Charlotte mentions being injured, Mikel blushes a bit, "Nothing that won't heal, m'Lady." "We are both hungry and thirsty though," adds Volkan. "We would definitely like to eat before moving out."

[Geldar]

Darian Vanderan Darian produces some trail rations from his pack and gives them to the prisoners. Everyone have something to eat, if you've not already. As soon as we're finished and Kai and Bren return from scouting, we need to move out to the bandit camp. Volkan, Mikel, will the two of you fight alongside of us? Have you weapons and armor of your own?

 

Actions and OOC Actions: Gives food to Mikel and Volkan. Speaks. OOC: I'm down to 2 days' trail rations. I started at 5 days' worth and just figured I've had 1 plus the 2 I just handed out. Unless the two prisoners have better weapons, I'll give them the masterwork Handaxes to use.

Volkan and Mikel "Thank you," answers Volkan to Darian, "but if you just give us our packs back we have rations there and we have our armor and weapons that we came with. We're used to them and would rather have them if it's all the same." Once receiving their equipment back, Volkan and Mikel set to putting their armor back on and securing their weapons. They then dig into the rations that they brought in their packs. "We'll fight if the lady needs us to," says Volkan with a nod to Charlotte. "We've pledged our blades if needed."

 

Kai and Bren have already made it back, they are with you now. I think it's in the post above.
You also have another 10 days trail rations from the dead bandits.
Remove the leather armor, short swords, bows, and 20 arrows each from your spoils to return to Volkan and Mikel.
Also, are you returning their gold to them?
