I've got some rope.
As I mentioned in my post, you can muffle an oar with cloth to keep it from slapping water. Don't know if Ange will allow that to help us. But, if we have that going for us, the distractive boat can be all kinds of loud rowing up to the ship while the others sneak wide around the stern. Hopefully, the deck crew will be preoccupied with the rowboat we are on. |

You guys can certainly try it! I like creative thinking. It'll probably get a circumstance modifier of some sort.

Of course! (No such thing as a dumb question btw.) Wikipedia tells me that the earliest mirrors were invented in like 6000 BC, incidentally. Whoa.
You can assume a pretty standard "medieval fantasy" level of tech exists. Some things reach up into the renaissance era, even. And magic makes many fantastical things possible. Unless you want something really anachronistic to the genre you can be pretty sure it exists.

Commons mirrors would be burnished bronze, but quite functional in a medieval period

Typical fantasy is not really "medieval" either, hence the quotation marks. Don't use that as a guideline, because things are far more advanced than that. C'mon, I'm sure you guys know what I mean. Pick up any average heroic fantasy book and you'll get the general idea. (Besides, glass mirrors were invented in the 1st century at least, according to wikipedia!)

Let it be known that I know a decent amount about ships, but Alair probably wouldn't. So that's how I'm playing him.

Completely understand, Uga. Sticks grew up running as a deck hand and bilge rat, so he often uses nautical terms without thinking that someone may not understand him.

Let it be known that I know approximately nothing about ships, but I have to pretend I do! So bear with me.

Well, typical High Fantasy really is at more of a Renaissance period, more or less, from what I can tell. But that's neither here nor there.
And if you want to learn about ships, ready the Horatio Hornblower series by C.S. Forester. It's about a British Naval officer during the Napoleonic Wars and as you read you pick up a LOT about sailing prior to the use of steam. |
