Saidande - please indicate what cost in materials we incur, if any, for 4 palisades, so I can update the storage pits. Thanks!

You get 3 for free. And you can pay for a 4th.

I'm going to have to ask that things don't go at angles... because that makes it VERY hard to set things up in maptool and it makes it harder to manage lengths of things.

Given no angled placement, this was my initial thought (Plan A):

Palisade #1: S44-X44
Palisade #2: Q46-Q51
Palisade #3: Z46-Z51
Palisade #4: S53-X53

It's as basic as it gets, but all the tweaks I considered had the drawback of reducing interior space. I just re-read the Settlement Building Mechanics thread and I see that we have 100 people (I assume that counts us, as we are "people drawn into the portal during the casting." So maybe even the above 64 square build would be too small.

We could expand our interior space by broadening our doorways, even to the point of having 100 interior squares if we are willing to have each doorway be 2 diagonal squares wide. Of course, doing so sacrifices defensibility. But one might argue that leaving people outside the palisades sacrifices their defensibility! If we can survive a few days with the 10x10 interior layout (i.e. wide doorways), we might be able to build some watchtowers, which could serve the extra function of narrowing one or more of our doorways. Likewise, we could partially block wider doorways by placing barrels or crates strategically.

Following this logic suggests the following alternative placement (Plan B):

Palisade #1: S44-X44
Palisade #2: P47-P52
Palisade #3: AA47-AA52
Palisade #4: S55-X55

Which do you prefer, Plan A or Plan B? Or do you have other suggestions?

Saidande:

Are we included in the 100? (What about Gando, who quit the game? And how are you writing him out of the story? And is our wizard still playing?)

How many militia do we have, including Rothbert?

Can PCs claim any of the armor that came through the gate?

Does construction of Defensive Structures require tool sets at the same rate as does construction of Buildings? If so, we can only build 3 palisades because we only have 3 tool sets, if I'm reading the construction rules correctly.

Our people consume ~10gp worth of food per day, right? I'll track that in the storage pits (which, of course, don't actually exist as pits yet, as far as I know...). Is it okay if I subtract it at the same time that I subtract each day's materials?

And finally, can we move our materials over next to our new defensive structure this same day?

I'd vote for plan B myself.

Yes
20 including the dwarf
Depends. The militia was wearing some of it
Yes, but this is a special case. They're using their weapons today to help, since you only need axes and hammers to build palisades
Yes
No. But it won't matter much. I already rolled and this night is a clear one. No raid.

Sorry for being gone so long...being unemployed has a terrible effect on my gaming time. Working on getting a new map tomorrow.

no problem boss, RL takes precedence over online life in most cases. Looking forward to the new map already.

Yeah, I'm excitedly but patiently awaiting any and all updates. Still wishing you good luck with the job search.

So we have 1 vote for Plan B. I'm on board for that one as well. I'm not sure who else wants to weigh in on this construction planning... Elucidus? Anyone? Actually, I'm not sure we have any other players beyond the three of us.

Ok got a map made out. I'm going to have to do this by hand till we get the locations down. Losing my work laptop means I have no computer that likes Maptool -_-

So... I'm not the DM, but I'd say we could move ahead with Plan B. Anybody remember what Plan B was?

See post #19.

Wow. If I'd known I could get a response so quickly, I'd have shouted out weeks ago. I was trying on the whole "being patient" thing.

Happy trails.
