Those outside find themselves on ground level of the parkade in behind Cairns Central Shopping Centre, around them are collapsed sections of the upper levels, with mounds of collapsed concrete being normative. Above your head are islands of concrete hanging in a latticework of rebar, like spiderwebs, the entire structure looking ready to collapse at any moment. This situation is greatly exacerbated by the monsoon’s fury, gale force winds seeking to exploit any weakness, as rainwater pours into every nook and cranny, serenaded by the booms of thunder.
Over a dozen brand new motorcycles are currently aflame, fuel tanks erupting dramatically at random intervals, tongues of flame cheering on the storm. Flashes of early morning lightning lends a surreal overlay to the scene as the sickly motorcycle club members employ their weaponry with brutal efficiency, not realising the truth of those they face and just how overmatched they are. Moving to be the tip of the spear and the focus of the gangers' attention, Panacea has shown that she is excellent at many things, but convincingly spinning both an accent and a yarn is not one of those things. Her opponent slashes at Emilia with a wicked-looking blade, "Shut yer yap, bint!" A moment later, the blade-wielding ganger Dice Toughness 0 vs. DC 23 Damage:
Pure will flows forth at Pressure's call catching a dual cricket bat-wielding Chrome member Dice Toughness 0 vs. DC 23 Damage:
Racking the slide of the sawed-off shotgun the trio of Section-08 members never get a chance to figure out who the intended target might have been, as Anima rises off the ground, causing the man's mouth to hang agape. Dice Toughness 0 vs. DC 23 Damage:
All three would survive, of that you are confident, though they would have bruises for days. Screaming stops as a single voice, a woman's voice, takes charge and all goes quiet within the mall. A flash of light leaves those by the fire barrels wondering if they were having seizures, Julian's ears assailed by the sharp retort of another gunshot in close proximity (though not even guessing slightly where he is), Mirage gets the distorted acoustics of the sound from 700' away, appearing in a flash of light that is not observed as the sentry is around a corner inhaling crack cocaine. A grunt pulls the man from his reverie, glancing back over his shoulder he stares the 215 metres toward the fire barrels with a slightly-bewildered look. Invisibly, Julian stands close enough to see the man's dilated pupil, how restless he is even standing, panting without exertion with a machete sheathed on his hip next to a keyring containing dozens of marked keys. The paisley-patterned red bandana has slipped enough to see cracked and blistered lips, exactly the pattern one would expect from bringing very hot glass pipe to one's lips. Raising his hand, Mirage reaches out Information was conveyed privately about the sentry being presently in front of the store. Dice Julian: Close Combat: Unarmed vs. Sentry DC 12 (Defences halved due to Surprise):
to make contact and introduce Gang banger is Surprised this round. Ranged Cumulative Affliction 8 (Resisted by Dodge, Overcome by Fortitude; Visually Impaired, Visually Disabled, Visually Unaware, Flaws: Limited to Vision) Dice Gang Banger's Dodge (Defences Halved) vs. DC 18:
Unsuccessful, which would typically impose the first condition: Visually Impaired, but this is a Minion, so a failed roll imposes the worst degree of the effect: Visually Unaware. Note: "The target of an Affliction makes a resistance check at the end of each of his turns to remove first and second degree conditions. Third degree conditions require a minute of recovery time or outside aid, such as the Treatment skill or Healing effect (DC 10 + rank)." the man to far more candelas than one wants to be introduced to. The blinded sentry screams and clutches his face, dropping to his knees, a cheap disposable lighter and burned glass tube clattering into the debris. A bright flashlight lays propped up by the debris, illuminating Target's locked gate of metal bars overlaying a long sliding panel of security glass, 4 desperate people press their faces against the cracked glass, trying to make some sort of sense as to what series of events explained the gunplay, scream, and flashes of light. Many are quite gaunt and sickly looking, though the least affected is a redhead wears the rank of a lieutenant and the sweat-stained combats of a Royal Australian Air Force Flight member. Deep cracks are apparent in the walls, ceiling and flooring, making one wonder just how stable the remaining structure is. Mirage radios the others. "Hey I found the hostages, is it clear? All these bikers are looking pretty ill to me. We may need to evacuate everyone here and hold people elsewhere until the authorities arrive. Panacea, if you're sure it's radiation and you can cure them do you want to try to fix these bikers too?"
Julian will approach the window the hostages are peaking out of, dropping his invisibility. Keeping his face concealed with a Halloween store Zorro eye mask and a medical mask covering his face and nose, he approaches the window. "Hey folks, we're here with a Cure. Are there anymore guards, or did they trap the place? We want to get you to safety and get you fixed up."

Up until now, Ian has felt like a second hand hero. Only able to play backup to the moves of his teammates. He was thankful to be associated with such an intelligent, thoughtful, and talented group of individuals. Now though, it seemed he might be able to make a play of his own. One that could really help in this situation. ”I can contain them.” Ian waited until he had everyone’s attention before continuing. “First we just need to find them. Anima, can you make contact with one of the bikers like you did the military personnel? If they can reveal the location of the jump bags things will go a lot quicker and smoother. I am not worried about a little radiation since Panacea has the Cure. Mirage or I, or maybe both can then get the contained items away from the people and then I can transport the items wherever they need to go.”

In mid-air, backlit by flashes lightning, Anima cuts a imposing figure, like a vengeful angel come to Earth. It is from this vantage point that she sees the giant hole in the roof that the comet's debris tore open. Checking a bit closer she finds the source of the heat, as the temperature increase to sweltering, unexplainably reaching temperatures in the mid-50 degrees Celsius range as she gets closer to the hole. Alysa realises that she will need a light source and to get much closer to learn more.
Bit by bit all are exposed to the bombardment of radiation inducing cellular damage and possibly severe illness to living targets, as compromised systems try to fight off and recover from the internal damage. [Anima, You may grant a subject a bonus equal to your Healing rank on resistance checks against effects with radiation descriptors for short periods of time. Your Restorative Extra on your Healing allows you to cure radiation poisoning, though the Healing Check will be DC 15.Panacea, and Pressure: please include a DC 11 Fortitude Resistance check versus Radiation Sickness. Julian please include a DC 14 Fortitude Resistance Check vs. Radiation Sickness; this is a Progressive Ranged Affliction (Resisted and Overcome by Fortitude; Impaired, Disabled, Incapacitated) providing a check to resist once per hour] A little squeak comes from one of the hostages as Julian resolves into the visible spectrum. No traps or other guards are apparent, permitting the 4 prisoners to spill forth from the bowels of Target, drinking deeply of their unexpected freedom and offering their gratitude to Mirage for his intercession. With the all clear given, Mirage is successful in his efforts to abscond the hostages from the clutches of Chrome and out of the line of fire, teleporting out two at a time, finally Julian is left with the decision of whether to bring out the blinded motorcycle member, or leave them behind. In a half-collapsed building brimming with radiation, and the stink of things burned that should not be, it is best to get out as quickly as possible. Suddenly appearing out in the storm has the 4 ex-prisoners clutching themselves for warmth in a humid 41 degree Celsius heat, showing just how hot it is in Cairns Central Shopping Centre. Those who were once hostages glance about with widened eyes taking in the impressive group, the bonfire of choppers, skittishly jumping as a large chunk of concrete falls two stories to smash into the bottom level of the parkade perhaps 12 paces from your location, and the pile of senseless Chrome bikers casually discarded about the area as a child might when bored. None show signs of maltreatment from their captors, save for a besuited middle-aged man, with swollen eyes, who looks to have had his nose broken within the last 48 hours. Leaning heavily on the shoulder of one of the others hostages, Lieutenant Corso is very tentative in her movements, explaining through grit teeth that she had wrenched her back and twisted, or possibly broken, her ankle in the ‘copter crash. Kate introduces herself and the others, asking which one was Anima to shake the woman's hand for helping to keep her calm. Once pleasantries are exchanged, she asks whether the two mission critical jump pack has been recovered and then is quick to warn, "They could have removed three Prototype Plasma MX-77 missiles from the helicopter." She expresses doubt that civilians would have the wherewithal to launch the missiles, though she does not doubt that anyone with even a modicum of mechanical expertise could set one to explode. The man with the broken nose adds, "They took Jamie and James this morning. I am not sure where they are." Ian considers how effective he would be against fissionable material, correctly realising how he could make it inert, though only as long as he concentrates, unless he really digs deep to "The transformation lasts as a sustained effect. When you stop maintaining it, the target reverts to normal. Continuous Transform is irreversible except by using another Transform effect to turn the target back into its previous form." With Extra Effort to bring forth an Alternate Effect (causing Fatigue) Pressure could turn his Transform Continuous for a scene.try something new: permanent transformation. Battered members of Chrome start to come to, and you are worried that the one hanging from the second story rebar might take a tumble without assistance. Dice Roll:
"Right, sounds like we have a long list or problems. Mission critical jump packs, missing civilians, missing rockets, and a radioactive comet fragment. My first guess is that some of the bikers went back to the bank vault with those rockets to try to rig them as a bomb. Does anyone here know if being exposed to radiation would make those bombs also radioactive? I don't know how radiation works to that extent. I can move around pretty quickly, I've gotten used to teleporting around the rain. Lt. Corso, did the thugs bring the jump packs here with them? Can you describe what they look like?" Mirage then turns to the bikers that are slowly regaining consciousness. "It's your lucky day, you were all dying from the radiation that comet shard is emitting. Cooperate and you all might make it out of here alive. We need the jump packs and missiles you guys stole off that helicopter. I assume you guys were gonna try blowing that vault open right? Do you have a way you can radio your people? Those bombs would've Dice Roll:
At some point in all of this, Mirage will go look over the bikes as well. And perhaps spending a hero point to alter a scene if neededHoping to find one or more that isn't damaged, he commandeers any working bikes, wishing very hard for a red one.

It may have been just a psychological thing, but Ian could swear that he was beginning to feel the effects of the
“Wait. You mean it is the meteor that is causing all the radiation and not the missiles? In that case, we can fix this quick.” So saying, he began marching toward the meteor. If it was indeed the source of the radiation, he could make it inert. Warning: rolls have been deleted from this post.

Lieutenant Corso offers the warmth of a smile to the mystic, which is replaced with a confused expression as Alysa’s words find the pathologist’s ears, “Within the medical jump packs were only laboratory samples and important paperwork, but nothing that would emit heat." Realising that the packs have not been recovered, the redhead looks about ready to limp back into the mall to retrieve them herself if needs be, but with a wince of pain she is stopped in her tracks holding her back and looking green around the gills. The next utterance is spoken in gasping breaths and teeth gritting around a grimace, "It is crucial that those samples and paperwork are recovered as quickly as possible.” Kate looks like she wants to say so much more, but keeps her mouth shut.
She describes the camouflaged packs with the crosses stitched into them and the papers, which Anima, Panacea and Pressure recognise as the official-looking encrypted papers strewn just passed the entrance to the mall, 8 paces from your current position. Julian realises that the mission critical jump packs are the ones he saw emptied at the fire barrels, encrypted papers being used to as burning material for illumination, and much of their contents crushed under heel. Working through her primary survey of the prisoners, Emilia does not need to ask how long they were in the mall, for their proximity to such a strong source of radiation is found in their signs and symptoms. One of the women hostages is wracked with pain and starts coughing up volumes of blood, triaging as the first to receive her ministrations as she was taken 4 days prior and such prolonged exposures make the Greek doctor confident that the sick woman would not have survived more than a couple days. Kate and the man with the broken nose have had the least exposure to the radiation, both within 2 days. Bit by bit, a sinister green mist literally flowing forth from those healed, radioactive material drifting away with the monsoon's winds, wounds seal as overwrought systems are purged of radiation. allowing them to take breathe freely and without discomfort again. All save the besuited man with the no longer broken nose, who We will hand wave the need for Heal rolls for the rest of this scene, just say that you are doing so and it will be done as long it is not incredibly time sensitive or there's another sort of peril. Note (for any future rolls): "Your Restorative Extra on your Healing allows you to cure radiation poisoning, though the Healing Check will be DC 15."still shows signs of radiation exposure. Once healed, the pathologist stands and cracks her back, jogging on the spot without discomfort, looking at Panacea in stunned silence before her words fall out of her food hole, "It is very nice to meet you Panacea. MX-77 missiles are precision weapons that release superheated plasma when detonated, which is often enough to completely vaporise the target. They carry no radiation." Ian prepares himself to convert radioactive material into inert lead once the group locates the source of the radiation and moves close enough for Pressure to touch. Mirage pops in and out of the surround, gathering up and disarming the 5 battered Chrome gang members in time before any of them take a 2 story face plant onto the pavement below. No spare firearm is found, though Julian knows where to find a handgun at the gang's camp, since he was present when it was discharged in his general direction twice. Falling back on his law enforcement knowledge, Mirage interrogates those with bandanas, who fold immediately admitting to taking advantage of the disaster to clear out houses and businesses, justifying their actions that everything would have been destroyed by the fires and encroaching waters anyway. Bashing someone for their lip was certainly something in their wheelhouse, and they promise that they would have just held them long enough to get away. Without much prompting, they spill that 2 of the missiles were secreted near the bank, in a partially-submerged city bus, with the intention to return after the storm breaks to use them remotely to break into the bank's vault. They relay that their leader, Rip, had ordered the last missile brought back, though they are not sure where she has secreted it. They deny having a way to radio each other, as they stick together as all good groups do. Emilia is faced with a choice of whether she will heal the gangers, or not, the ethical choice made immediately even with opportunist parasites like Chrome. Panacea is rewarded for her kindness with mean words directed at her person, her hygiene, her taste in footwear, and her lineage, as her healing had also removed toxins from the ganger’s systems, including stimulants like crack cocaine. It is far from a cure for their addiction, but at least you are dealing with individuals with clear heads, albeit grumpy individuals with clear heads. By slow degrees the Mirage may spend a Hero Point to find one of the bikes that has survived the blaze through some bizarre quirk of fate. It is a cherry red and brand new chopper style bikes still with the plastic on the seats and price tag still hanging from the bars. No key is found, though as a bonus for altering the scene, by spending of the Hero Point, Julian will find that the once blinded gang member (has since regained their sight) has the key to the bike on the keyring Julian spotted earlier.blaze encompassing Chrome’s motorcycles subsides. A small section of the unstable parkade give away, raining concrete blocks that occasionally spatter your feet with rubble, a reminder of the dangers of remaining too long in this area. As Section-08 comes to grips with what to do next, a trio of distant handgun discharges send the civilians for cover, followed by a woman’s voice, dripping with Dice Insight Roll vs. DC 17 (Anima):

Julian could feel his heart pounding with excitement. Between the thrill of the altercation, rescuing the people, and showing off his powers so openly, he was having a tough time containing the youthful giddiness he was feeling. The perfectly red motorcycle was the perfect distraction from the adrenaline, and he twirled the keys he snagged from the biker as he admired the bike. Getting back to business, he works on collecting as much documentation debris he can find.
"Man, I've always wanted one of these. Any of you guys ride before? Oh, some bad news, it looks like a bunch of documents were used as kindling. I salvaged what I could, hopefully you've got a document recovery specialist you can get these to." Mirage's head whips toward the voice, but he hesitates, unsure of what is going on. He hears Panacea try to negotiate and holds, but is ready to teleport directly to to the source of the threatening voice and snatch her out of hiding if he has to.
