A knight on horseback rides
To fight for the maiden fair
Locked away in a tower tall
Guarded by demons unknown.
Damsel awake! Your champion comes!
Your distress flees from him
Your demon guards are slain
No more a prisoner be.
Luck was with her
Her plight was known
The quest set out
And saved her.
Happiness reigns
The pair are wed
The earth is joyous
Fairy tales and poppycock.
No knight rides out
To fight for those
Locked behind walls
No one can see.
Distress wracks the girl
Locked within her own self
Guarded by no beast
No man, no thing.
No one can save her
For none know her plight
For who would quest
To save me?
Author's Notes: This was a spur-of-the-moment attempt some time ago to convey what I had avoided saying for awhile. Even three years (or more?) later, it still rings true. It's possible that this is the most honest statement about my emotions I've ever written.
