|Green skinned, this half-orc female sports bleached blonde short-cropped hair and pearly tusks jutting from ruby lips. Endowed in both muscle and charm, she carries herself with the grace of someone used to wearing heavy armor and hauling heavy loads. On her neck is a brand that looked to be a menacing looking sigil, but the details are obscured by a tattooed 'X' over it in black ink. Body language is one of someone who is used to casual violence, but she doesn't aggressively pursue it. Vette has a positive, upbeat attitude that reflects her joy over newfound freedom and life. When relaxing and off-duty, she wears light station clothing, a strange mishmash of outfit pieces and parts seemingly assembled from a number of different people's collections. When at work, however, Vette wears heavy armor that's well maintained, clean... and bright neon pink in color with a logo of a landshark emblazoned on the back in black.

Born a slave on Apostae, Vette is a 8th generation half-orc descendant; a family lineage of both parents being half-orcs going back as long as anyone has record. (mis?)fortune found her as a young girl when she was purchased from the Drow by a space pirate crew, the Black Bulettes. A rough and uncomfortable lot, Vette was kept as a cabin girl and general laborer until she was old enough to start taking part in actual piracy. There was when she started to shine. Using her speed, strength, and toughness, she became one of the Black Bulette's best boarding crew. Several years and many successful raids later, she had amassed a fair amount of her own wealth. The Black Bulettes weren't only ship-raiding pirates, however. They had worked out a organic relationship with several of the businesses in the area, including the local asteroid-mining crews of the Diaspora, who were under the Captains express orders to leave them be... as long as they were willing to let some of the crew berth in their shipyards and docks every once and a while when the ship was far away.

Vette takes her time walking around the ship, examining every nook and cranny. She also takes time to poke around in places where only the Ysoki would likely fit, though she just looks a bit before backing out. "Hey Grix, you able to poke around these tight cubby holes?" she asks after a bit. "I used to hide in these kinds of places as a kid and I found all kinds of strange things stuck up in 'em."

Once she checks out the bunks, she immediately sits her butt down on the Vesk's old bunk. "That's sucks. Why didn't they have a doshko? Did any of you see an old doshko laying around?" she complains. Most likely cause she wants a new weapon to her collection. Or at least to have one to put on display in what she seems to be thinking is her new room. "Hey so since there's more of us than there are bunks, we gonna haveta share space." Vette says. "So who's sharing a bed with me?" she asks in a coy tone.

When she gets Matsu's message, she will come check out the bridge. "That's a sweet setup this thing has." she says. "I call dibs on the turret!" she says, hopping into the seat and giving it an experimental spin before hopping out. "Oof, dusty." she complains.

"I'm also gonna need to get some serious R&R after this. Armor needs repairs... maybe even replacement." she observes, poking over the damage to her protective pink shell. "She served me well, but she's done."

Aja Miram

Aja

Aja sighed in relief as the creature that could give any horror vid monster a run for their money finally fell to Vette's Doshko. For several seconds Aja pointed the borrowed pistol in her flesh and blood hand at the crosshairs of her combat tracking software. When the creature failed to move, Aja sighed in relief that the battle was finally over. Activating Vette's weapon's safety, Aja walked up to the half-orc and the dead creature the woman had slain. After a few seconds of looking at the horror that had attacked them, Aja shuddered and holstered her DPP before turning her gaze up at the taller half-orc woman. Handing the borrowed Azimuth laser pistol back to its rightful owner butt first, Aja said.

"Thanks for the use of your weapon Vette. It came in handy a few times."

With another glance at the creature and another shudder, Aja turned away from the monster that would be haunting her nightmares for a few nights to come and focused on the Sunrise Maiden that was now theirs.

Once inside the Maiden, Aja quickly divested herself of her armor and disappeared into the guts of the ship. The fact that everything was shut down for the past 75 years brightened the engineer's mood greatly. In fact, as Aja roamed the ship and dug into its innards and the tight confines of a few maintenance access points, the young engineer's smile increased in proportion to the dirt and grime smeared on her skin and in her hair. After a good forty minutes, Aja gave her verdict from the engineering room via the ships PA system,

"Attention everyone. There is a crack in the secondary dimensional warp filament of the drift drive, and so I have locked out the system until we can get that fixed. There are some rubber and polymer fittings throughout the ship that will need to be replaced, but nothing like I feared, so don't be surprised if you notice a leak. And speaking of leaks, I'd resist turning on anything the requires fluids for coolant or lubrication as I don't know the molecular breakdown ratios of the 75-year-old fluids used back then. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, not a Chemical Engineer so all the systems will need to be purged and flushed. That being said, The Sunrise Maiden is officially capable of space flight. We should have no problems flying over to Absalom Station where I can get to work.

...oh, and before we leave, I'd like everyone to meet me at Captain Nash's last resting place. We have to show our respect to the woman who gave us her ship."

After everything was secured, checked, and double-checked, Aja went on a short scavenging hunt and found a few useful pieces of scrap in the port cargo hold, the holoprojector from the Nash's datapad was not difficult to remove, and she had already transferred the former captain's last will and testament to her exocortex. Hence, the only thing needed was a bit of circuitry and motion sensor pulse the time to put it all together. Aja took her time doing that to make certain the result of her efforts would withstand the test of time.

Once everyone was ready to go, Aja made the trip back to the storage room that was Captian Moriko Nash's last resting place. Once she arrived there, Aja carefully set the plaque that she had created in the exact center of the door and welded it in place. It only took her a few moments to run power from a nearby wall conduit to the plaque. Upon the surface of the plaque, raised metal lettering read, Tomb of MORIKO NASH. Aja ran her hand over the motion sensor with a sigh and stepped back as the holo image of Moriko Nash's last will and testament played.

"To whoever should find this datapad, my name is Moriko Nash, Captain of the Sunrise Maiden. On the third of Sarenith, 242 AG..."

Once the message played itself out, Aja turned to the nearby hovering drone and said to Ambassador Nor,

"Once the people that need to examine Moriko Nash's corpse have done so, I'd like the door hermetically sealed and welded shut."

As everyone headed back to the ship, Aja paused next to the disabled robot before glancing over at the half-orc nearby before asking,

"Hay, Vette? You mind helping me carry this robot back to the ship?"

"Yeah no prob." Vette says, willing to help drag the battered thing to their new ship's hold. Once done she'll finally let out a sigh.

"You did good back there." Vette assured Aja. "Handled that pretty well for your first boarding action. Sure you might have screamed like a girl from a horror holo but you never ran." she grins at the engineer in earnest, with no sarcasm or mocking attitude. "Glad to have you aboard."

T'aro
right-aligned image
Credit to Raul Vilela
T'aro wasn't surprised that their shot had missed. Not really. They felt something slightly akin to relief... but it was numbed. The real relief would have been never having to fire the gun at all. As they watched Aja and Vette work together to destroy this eldritch monstrosity, T'aro just didn't know what to think, mostly. It was a complex mixture of half-thoughts. A medley of fear of their teammates and gladness that they were, indeed, T'aro's teammates.

With the creature dead, T'aro says something that surprises themself a little bit. "Should we see what it tastes like?" A terrible bit of dark humor... one would assume. They have not mastered tone.

Still shell-shocked from the combat, T'aro floats throughout the ship. When they see the Mithril Star Whiskey, they can't help but see a symmetry in the past several days. They look for a glass to taste it again. Their internal world is changing wildly, and T'aro has always wondered how that changes one's experiences. Their body tingles as they receive their race's reward of making a clear decision. "Does anyone else want... or need... a drink?" They turn their compound eyes instinctively towards Mendev Malone. After all, he had really enjoyed the whiskey the first time... Or at least drank a lot of it. When they finally find a glass, they take a sip of the whiskey, and indeed find that their experience of the drink is different now. "It tastes... a little like roses. And fire," they muse.

Even as they're putting the glass down, Vette is complaining about a lack of Doshko trophies. "There was one in the cave-- a mutilated one... I did not have time to look at it before... before that thing appeared."

On the bridge, T'aro is drawn towards the science station. Hazy bits of someone else's memories flash before the Shirren's eyes. Scans and schematics. Understanding what is out there with senses that biology alone doesn't grant. "I think this will do well for me... if we're all to remain together."

-----------------------

Quite some time later, at Aja's dedication to the late captain Nash, T'aro can't help but nod. "Well spoken, Aja," is all that need be said.

"Damn right I'm jealous!" Vette blurts in reaction, glancing at Matsu with her tusked grin even wider as she jerks her thumb in his direction. "I sound a dude every time I knock boots!" She chuckles at her crude humor. "Ah... not that bothers me. Give the neighbor something to think about, eh? Still, I hear those voice-modulating augs are pretty cheap. Grix gave a whoop when Vette so effectively dispatched their foe, not just ending the threat for their own group, but also avenging Captain Nash and her late team! "Way to go, Vette!"

She scurried over to where the battle had ended, putting her gun away in the process. The creature lay lifeless and mutilated at their feet. "Let’s take it with us, when we leave. Maybe someone back on the station can identify it," she suggested, partially to the group, partially to the drone of the Ambassador. And then she put it out of her mind. There was something far, far more important to look at: the Sunrise Maiden!

Once the door had been unlocked the ysoki had started to clamber all over and through the ship. Vette most definitely didn’t have to tell her twice about the cubby holes. In fact, the warrior only saw a tail vanish down one of them while she was still speaking. Grix had made much the same experiences as Vette - not least of all due to the fact that she herself had left a lot of such strange things lying around!

At some point she emerged from her exploration long enough to join T’aro in the captain’s quarters. She certainly wasn’t about to pass up a chance for another taste of that great whiskey. "To Captain Nash and her crew! May they rest in peace knowing they were avenged!" she stated while raising her cup.

True to her style, she only stayed a short, reverent moment after the toast before rushing off again. Eventually, of course, the ysoki ended up in the pilot’s seat, going over the controls. She couldn’t wait to take the Maiden out of the hanger and into space. Certainly, after all that time, the ship had to feel just like her, she thought.

When Aja asked everyone to join her on the rock again, Grix felt torn. Of course she agreed that Nash deserved their respect, but she wanted to go. Leave. Fly! In the end, though, she sighed. She couldn’t leave with everyone else off the ship anyway. And so she joined the rest of the team, trying her valiant best not to appear restless or impatient. In the end she had to admit: "Good idea, this, Aja."

And the excursion had another upside: on the way back she was reminded of the alien’s corpse. "Can you gimme a hand here, Vette?" In truth, of course, Grix couldn’t really help a lot with dragging the corpse into the cargo bay, but at least she organized a sheet so they wouldn’t get ikky bodyfluids all over the ship.

T'aro didn't very much understand the discussion of masculine and feminine voices. They were aware that mammalians had that distinction, but it differed so much by phylum broadly, but all the way down to nuances between and even within a species. They understood that some joke was being made, but didn't get it.

And so, it's not too surprising that they interrupt somewhat abruptly, carrying a mutilated Doshka that they had pointed out in the great hall. "The weapon you were looking for, Vette-- I have it here for you. If it's not too much trouble, could you place the corpse of that... thing... somewhere that I can examine it?"

Aja

Aja felt embarrassed by Vette's complement and by the subject of her screaming being mentioned. Aja muttered a quiet "Thanks" while blushing in embarrassment and thought,

'At least Vette didn't mention me throwing up on the bridge of the Acreon.'

The faint thought in the back of her mind saying that she damned near did run was quickly crushed and shoved under her mental rug. It was nice being complimented, if somewhat backhandedly. The addition of Matsu teasing Vette about having the half-orc getting a vocal modulator to scream like a girl only embarrassed Aja more. It also annoyed the young engineer as the loss of Aja's voice was a painful memory. Sure, she had played around with the voice modulator. What kid wouldn't? But the talk of changing Vette's voice to sound more girlish pricked something within Aja, and she did something she rarely would have done. All it took was a quick capture of the Half-orc's voice pattern, and Aja said in Vette's voice.

"That would be great! We could even switch voices."

Giving them both a grin, Aja quickly disappeared into engineering, embarrassed that she had done that.

It was finally time to leave the Drift Rock, and surprisingly, Aja sat down at the Engineering station on the bridge. A few keystrokes and suddenly an alert sounded from the captain's chair, indicating that Engineering has been sealed off. Aja looked up, not realizing that would have happened, and blushed before explaining,

"Um, on the off chance a key seal were to leak, I figured it would be safer to manage the systems from here....and I didn't want to risk having to clean my suit twice in one day."

Aja quickly turned back to her station and focused on the task of regulating power as if that would wipe the red from her cheeks. As Grix worked through the pre-flight or not checklist, Aja only spoke when she needed to. By the time she stabilized the power flow from the reactor to the engines, she felt less embarrassed and more eager to see how the ship's systems handled its first flight in over 75 years. There were few problems, and Aja found herself looking out at Absalom station and the sparking light of the armada that ringed the place. It was a sight she had seen hundreds if not thousands of times, but this time seemed different, special. Aja tore herself from that familiar but still spectacular view to run a diagnostics of the power core. Satisfied with the results, Aja figured it would be better to shake down the ship now and figure out what will spring a leak than finding out over the next month. So she gave a little encouragement to their pilot.

"Okay, Grix, everything is in the green. Why don't you put the Sunrise Maiden through her paces? That way, we can see what fails and will need replacing and what stay's intact and can last a while longer."

Obviously, Aja had a different view on when to stress test things. Was it perhaps a Dwarven way of testing the ship's systems that she picked up over the last year? Or maybe it went farther back to growing up as a scavenger on Akiton? Even Aja does not know, but it's her preferred method to seeing if something needed to be fixed. Either way, giving the Ysoki free reign might shake things up, and Aja followed her encouragement to Grix by strapping herself into her station.

Mendev spun about to shoot off another round, but by then the horror of the rock had been felled. Mendev, like most of the others still held his guns out aiming at the beast. Grix's whoop startled him. That is when the bounty hunter realized, that the hunt was over. YEEAAAAH! He trailed behind the whoop. The echo in the chamber made him wince and Mendev looked around, half expecting the small horde of eggs to hatch.

Ah hells, ladies and gents... we won. We beat it... and not one of us is dead.. Mendev nodded and shrugged at the same time. Approaching still cautiously. He holstered the azimuth pistol, but Ol'trusty stayed out. He considered putting another bullet in the thing's brain pan, but Vette's strike left no such a thing. Not in less than ten pieces. He holstered the pistol.

Kick ass job... I don't know nothing about ghosts... but that's got to be the ugliest of them all. Or whatever it was... Anyone seriously hurt? I have healing serum... He nods towards the Sunrise Maiden and finishes his thought. ... don't know what surprises are in there, but I reckon we'd be in trouble if it's a dragon of some sort. Mendev said that last part in jest, but it was a half-serious suggestion. So far they'd gone against some sort of alien lion beast with an infectious bite, zombies, a ghost, and something very fragin similar to what he knew about ghosts (which he'd just learned less than a half-hour earlier).

He accompanied the others onto the Sunrise Maiden. While the others were in awe Mendev cautiously kept an eye on the wiring on top, or the grates at their feet. Frak... who knows how long I'm going to have nightmare about those things... He lamented.

Mendev chuckle's at Vette's public offer to share beds. I think you will find that the accommodations to be more than enough for all of us. At the very least your deserve your own room, I think. I don't know what your life as a slave was, but I hope this next chapter in your life will be of well deserved comfort.

When it was clear that the ship was clear of any further threats, Mendev posted up outside. Going to do a walkaround. I'll report in every five... or earlier if I hear something.

In a previous life Mendev was familiar with standing watch. He missed it sometimes... being with comrades-in-arms. Despite the near death experience, he enjoyed this stint. Mendev walked the "hangar" deck and observed everything. Taking out his datapad and recording what he could for further examination. One thing bugged Mendev. What the hell is this place? He recalled Grix's earlier finding, and the writing on the wall. None of it made sense. Just a theme for war or dominance. This would soon not be their problem and what would Mendev do? He abhorred the idea of drinking away whatever reward or pay was coming their way. He'd already lived that grief. It was time to move on.

Taro's voice came over the comms and Mendev spoke up. I'll take that offer. Yeah, the bounty hunter had resigned himself from drinking... but this was Mithril Star. Only a dweeb would say no to that...

Quote:
"It tastes... a little like roses. And fire,"
Pretty sure that's the taste of victory... He said with a nod and a twitch of his brow as he took a sip of his own.

Grix's toast was honorable and well placed. Here, here... He responded. ... and to the Acreon and her crew. May they and their loved ones find peace... and to Duravor Kreel, may the whiskey in the afterlife be as good as this one.

Mendev found the memorial touching. He originally had reservations about leaving Moriko's body on this rock, as it would eventually be getting explored and worked on by miners of whoever won the legal case. But Aja had done such a perfect thing, that whatever doubts he had where gone. He helped Vette and Matsu get the beast and the robot back on the ship. Then again walked around the hangar.

Only when Mendev was satisfied that they were no longer in imminent danger did he return back to the ship. His skills in this aspect were few. He'd only ever used a ship to get transported to and from places. What it was to work in one was new to him. All he'd ever know was talking, shooting, and following orders. He helped the others where he could. Fetching a tool, holding a light, turning on a switch, but mostly he just stayed out of the way and encouraged them where he could.

When they were getting ready to go and they were gathered Mendev stated his intent. I'm not much good for this ship life. Never worked on one much. Don't think I'll be much help in this. After we get our pay. I intent to link back up with Chiskisk. Debrief him... see where this Starfinder thing takes me. I think Duravor would have liked that. Ya'll can keep my share of the ship.
Notes

Mendev will also look for that glint again and study it. If it looks like something interesting he can't I'd he'll show it to the others.

Finally! Finally it was time to strap in and get the Maiden going again. Everyone was finding their preferred places and even Aja was joining the group up front. The ysoki was more than ready to get down to business, but then one more thing came up that would delay their lift off.

Mendev said his piece and the pilot paused for just a beat before there was a sigh from her position and the group could almost hear her roll her eye. The straps holding her down clicked open again and she jumped up in her seat to look over the back at the human in their midst. "Really? That’s the way you wanna play this?" She looked at him incredulously. "So what if you haven’t been on ships much. Who cares? Learn new stuff! This is an opportunity you’re not gonna get again! Think about it! Our own ship!" She gestured excitedly at their surroundings.

"Think about what this means! We can go wherever we want! No waiting for shuttle schedules! No hoping there’s a ship flying wherever it is you wanna head! No negotiating that the captain puts you down at spaceport x instead of y!

Think of all the things and places and beings we can go and see!"
Sure, the ship would require upkeep and docking fees and all that, but to Grix those were minor issues. She jumped off the seat and made her way over to Mendev, where she proceeded to push him resolutely towards the one free seat in the cockpit. "Now sit yourself down here and just try to go with the flow, yeah? You’re good at the whole talking to people and giving directions, right?" She grinned at him. "Who knows, maybe this’ll be even fun for you, if you’re just willing to give it a shot!" A little bit more seriously (and quietly) she added: "The one thing I know for sure, though, is that you’ll regret it for the rest of your life if you’re not at least giving it a try!"

Having done her part to hopefully get Mendev to rethink his opinion Grix headed back to the pilot’s chair and strapped herself in again. By that time the main power of the Maiden had come online, too, and for a few moments the ysoki just sat still, hands on the panels, feeling the soft vibrations of the engine running through the ship. Yes, it felt eager to her. Eager to stop sitting and resting idly and instead return to where it belonged: the open vastness of space!

"[ysoki]Just a little more patience, swift one!" she told the ship while actually taking the time to do a preflight check that she certainly hadn’t bothered with when taking out the Hippocampus earlier. But after the ship sitting idly for as long as she had, it seemed like a good and prudent idea. Plus, it gave her a good idea about the layout of the controls.

With a broad grin that threatened to split her face in two she turned to look at Aja, when she suggested a live test run."With pleasure!" She turned back to the controls and tightened her straps. "[ysoki]Time to go, big girl!" And with that she started the thrusters. With a wash of blue light under the ship they started up and the Maiden ever so gently lifted up off the hangar floor. Another few button presses made sure that all the airlocks were sealed. A soft rumble indicated the landing struts being retracted. Keeping her eyes on the control screens Grix activated the maneuvering thrusters to carefully move the Maiden backwards out of hangar and to freedom!

MatsuPicking up on Aja's emotions as she modulates her voice made Matsu think again about the jokes. Her modulation was so good he'd forgotten it was there. As he headed into the cockpit to take the remaining gun position, he gave Aja a nod and a grin. As she told Grix to shake the ship out, he swallowed. Hopefully, he'd get the chance to make it up to her for embarrassing her. If the ship didn't fall apart first. He gripped the sides of his seat and took a long, deep breath.

Above the Drift Rock, Absalom Station Space, 4/29/317Stomachs lurch as the exuberant ysoki swings the Sunrise Maiden out from under the camouflaged hangar awning and slingshots up into space! Banking left, she gives the group one more close up look at the Drift Rock. The ship's controls and engines respond quickly and reliably to each command, a testament to both the durability of the Vagabond class and the care Captain Nash took for the ship prior to its stranding on the Rock. Aja carefully monitor's the ship's systems and concedes that things are holding together. Vette and Matsu track targets that are far beyond range and squeeze off a few shots--again, all systems appear to be functioning optimally and neither can resist a pot shot or two at the akata cocoons on the Drift Rock's surface far below. In the seat next to Grix, T'aro begins exploring the various sensor and scanning instruments at their disposal. Mendev in the Captain's seat browses through the battle management tools that give him command of the ship's communications and a clear picture of the tactical situation. This picture includes the information that one akata cocoon was blasted to slag... the bounty hunter would leave it to the soldiers to fight over who hit it.

Grix puts her nose onto Absalom Station for the return trip when suddenly a twinkling in space between the Maiden and the Station catches her eye. Was that...? Before the young pilot can finish asking herself the question, the comms net erupts with confirming chatter!

"Look alive, Dogs! Bandits at 270-mark-100!"

"ASGS Control this is Blink Dog is one of four squadrons in the ASGS--the one that was on station for the quarantine when you reached the AcreonBlink Dog Leader! We have Everyone has heard of the renegade Corpsefleet--a large contingent of the Eoxian Navy that chose to rebel and flee the Golarion System after Eox made peace with the other planets and joined the Absalom Pact. For nearly three centuries, this sinister force has hidden out in an expanse of the galaxy now known as the Dead Sea. From their hidden lairs, they strike at Pact World colonies and other civilizations, seeking to convert the living to undead cannon fodder for their ultimate cause: to return and conquer the Pact Worlds. Though this is their ultimate goal, Corpsefleet incursions in the Golarion system are very rare. Incursions into Absalom Station space are unheard of!Corpsefleet ships in Station space! Repeat: Corpsefleet ships in station space!"

"Where in the nine did they come from?!"

"Out of the armada I think!"

"Dog 4 taking fire!"

"Blink Dogs, engage!"

"Heads up, Sunrise Maiden! You have one hostile incoming!"

The flickering in the distance is punctuated by a small fireball as the ASGS engages the invading ships, but of much more immediate concern is the tiny but growing craft approaching dead ahead. The vessel glints white in the light of the Pact World sun and in the distance, bizarre spurs and ridges--like bones--can be seen across its hull. The other ship's gunner--either overeager or trying to force a mistake--lets loose with a particle beam from extreme range and sends hybrid streaks of energy and matter lancing across the void. The shots miss wide, but they serve to make the enemy ship's intentions very clear. A new voice comes up on the comms, this one sinister and gravelly with a thick Eoxian accent: "Pact World ship, this is the commander of the Iron Rictus. Cut engines and prepare to be boarded!"

OOGMStarship combat!

ROUND 1, ENGINEERING PHASE

We now begin the three phases of a starship combat round--Engineering, Helm, and Gunnery--and we will need to exercise some posting discipline. Not everyone can act in every phase, but the OOGM will explain exactly what I need, when, and from whom. This is the Engineering Phase--your next posts will tell me what you do in this phase, and my next post will resolve those actions and begin the Helm phase.

First things first: I need Blackfyre to give me a Piloting skill check for initiative in the dice thread. This will determine who moves first during the Helm phase and it does NOT count as an action for Grix. You get a +1 bonus to this check because of the Sunrise Maiden's maneuverability class. Also take an additional +1 on this check by using the Maiden's Every round, the ship's computer grants two +1 bonuses that may be used on any dice roll. I want Blackfyre to use one of them on this roll since initiative is very important. I will also dictate the other modifier later in this round. Starting in round 2, once you see how this works, it will be up to you where to use those modifiers.floating modifier.

Second: Everyone is free to attempt a DC 25 Culture check (20 for Blackfyre because of Grix's theme) to identify the enemy ship's class--and perhaps a piece of information about it--by sight. Make the roll in game post or just in the dice thread--up to you.

Each crew member gets ONE major action and ONE minor action per round (we'll worry about minor actions later, it's rare you'll use them so I won't muddy the water yet). We are starting with just the basics--later on we'll add additional options for everyone. Here is what I need from each of you during the Engineering Phase. Please read the spoilerbutton addressed to you. You may read the other players' spoiler buttons if you want, but it isn't required.

Next turn I will add other types of actions to give you a broader selection, but for this round we'll just do the basics.
If you have questions, ASK.

This is your ship's status, and it details the weapons and other tools at your disposal.

This is the stat block for the enemy ship. As you see, most of it is a mystery. Scrying and scanning can quickly start to fill in these blanks.

Mendev stood there amongst the group. Grix's words were unexpected. For once in a very long while he'd felt like a child being chided. He looked around passing two pressed fingers over his brow. He, the man who made a living by talking, for once had no words to say.

Grix had a point; a sharp one. And in reality Mendev really had nothing to hold him back. Admitting that, hurt more than anything.

Instead he just nodded. Yeah... no... I was just... you know... thinking out loud.He still wasn't sure he'd stick around flying in a ship, but he'd think more about it on their flight back. He leaned awkwardly against the chair behind the pilot's. It was untaken. It didn't even have that many controls, Mendev thought. Ships can be dangerous... and you'll want the best. To handle it... the ship... and whatever may come.

There was an awkward silence. Mendev looked back to Matsu and Vette. They were already strapped down and so was T'aro. The rise almost threw Mendev off balance, and he'd fallen if he hadn't grasped the captain's chair. Realizing he was the only buffoon not strapped he scrambled onto the seat and to get his seat belt on. After a quick fumble there was a satisfying *click*. Mendev pulled the straps and made sure they were secured before he tightened them. He looked around again and gave two thumbs up.

They took off and Mendev thought the view to be glorious. He stayed silent for most of the testing. Observing everything within sight and hearing. To the left, to the left, to the right to the right. Back it up, get high. Bend over get low... He sung in his head, making a ditty for how Grix handled the controls.

Everyone seemed busy except him. He poked around with his comparatively few buttons. The Public Announcement system screeched for a second before he repressed the same button. I think that's broken... I won't press it again. The monitor was more interesting to him. To Mendev it did not take long for him to figure out some of the bleeps and sprites that appeared on the screen. He touched with two fingers and flipped around to see if it managed just like a datapad. It did; exactly like a laggy staticky one.

The call out broke him out of his examination. He looked up trying to see what was going on. He waited there, his eyes wandering around as he listened to the comms. Shat! He said out loud. They were seemingly under attack. Yet he could not exactly see from what or much of anything going on around him. His "skyline" view was limited with what was forward of him and only a portion of an angle.

Mendev Malone hated ships. At the very least, ALWAYS when getting shot at. To him, being ruptured was one of the worst fates he'd lived through. His lungs began to burn from the memory. His breathing became heavier, as if anticipating that every breath would be his last. He rubbed his chest. A blink under his nose caught his attention and he looked down. The screen had more bleeps in it. He wanted to say what he wanted to say, but he wasn't sure if it was true. Instead, he asked it in the best way he could. HOW MANY? The rational question surprised Mendev in how panicked it sounded. He would have sighed if he wasn't starting to get angry. Instead he puffed his cheeks in frustration. I see things... not sure how many. He seemed to recall T'aro messing earlier with his screen and seeing something with the word sensors. T'aro can you confirm?

A sickly green particle get's Mendev's attention. He looked up his brows furrowed. The enemy commander's words cut through all confusion. This was a type of communication Mendev knew well. A threat. Mendev gritted his teeth. Pressed his comm buttons and again the PA screeched. He pressed it again to turn of the embarrassing annoyance. Mendev Malone was starting to see red.

It took him a mini-second. Mendev closed his eyes. His mental rolodex searched for what he wanted to portray. A salty sea Captain. No... A courageous military officer. No... A blood thirsty pirate. No... His eyes opened and Mendev pressed on the outgoing radio's button.

A meek mannered voice. Ah....OK. Dah, dah, dah Dawn Maid... Su-surrenders! He said in a stuttering. Mendev cut the comms, he flipped the switches to the exterior lights to off. He hoped their outside lights would all cutout and make the ship dark. Mendev looked around at the crew. What?!? He asked in an incredulous voice. He waved his hands shooing them frantically to get back to work. Find him, Close with, AND DESTROY THE ENEMY! He said, imitating his former drill instructor.

Can I use that as a bluff? Does it only count vs enemy engineer or does it count as per the book -2 to all enemy character acting?
