The Fate of Uresia

Game NameThe Fate of Uresia
Game SystemFATE
Themeadventure, intrigue, exploration
Flavourlight-hearted with common magic
Plot SummaryThe setting is Uresia, the Grave of Heaven -- many centuries ago, the gods warred, destroying heaven, which fell down to the lands of Man, creating a boiling sea that eventually cooled, leaving hundreds and hundreds of islands in a new sea. Now the kingdoms of Man (including Humans, Elves, many types of Beast-man, Dwarves, Satyrs, and other civilized races) are branching out after a huge war a generation ago that brought many of them together. [The setting is influenced by various anime, video games, and other RPG settings. There are some interesting free documents about it here, including maps and fonts.]

The game itself depends somewhat on the players, in true FATE tradition we will be choosing the game's Scale and the Big Issues together before creating characters. Players are not required to be familiar with Uresia, it would be nice if they were familiar with FATE Core or FATE Condensed (even just by referencing the online SRD.) I usually like 1-3 posts/week.

Great to see this getting off the ground Chuk! I am interested in this setting and very excited that you are taking that NPSG grad knowledge of Fate and bringing this to the community! Kudos for stepping out on that limb right away! It is, of course, killing me that I am still behind on site... we will have to see if my schedule can clear some space for another game... but I am interested.

A couple questions for you: How do you plan to pick players? Are you taking all interested parties? Do you have a limit? If you do have a limit are you taking the first X players or will you be picking from the applicants (if so, how)?

Excellent question -- I would probably set a limit at 4 or maybe 5 players. I have never run a game that had too many applicants, so I had not thought of that before posting the ad. I would pick based on the character ideas that I think would work well together.

Never played FATE but the system and setting look interesting. Would you have a place for an Elvish coaster?

Elvish yes, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'coaster' -- like, someone who lives near the ocean?

Sorry. I meant CASTER as is magician. I have an idea for a character linked to the Elvish brothel

Oh sorry, I should have figured that out. Yes, that would fit.

There are many different kinds of magic in Uresia. Some of the few things that are not (reliably) possible include blind teleportation (teleportation to known locations or to pre-set 'beacons' is common), scrying (for the future), time travel (mages can travel *forward* in time, but not return...), true love spells, true resurrection of the dead, or reliable long-term life extension. (Most of these have some exceptions, or at least something that seems like exceptions...)

This all sounds good. I see her as a courtesan with magic that would help her in interactions with others. A diplomat and negotiator who is not averse to using her charms to make deals. Think Emma Hamilton who was Nelson's paramour. Would be a fun character to play and being able to agree what sort of game we want makes her more playable.

Is there a character sheet available? The SRD makes it clear that it is helpful in understanding how the game works but there is not one on the site.

I'm potentially interested. I'll study the setting and see if I can come up with a character concept by the weekend.

Here is a character sheet -- you can use this to start the writeup for your character with a name, a race, a High Concept, and a Trouble. We can change these of course.

There are many different intelligent races on Uresia who would all be suitable for a PC. There are Humans and Elves and Dwarves of course, but also many different types of Beastmen (humanoids with some animal features, some numerous enough to have their own towns, some very rare), regular but intelligent Beasts, Centaurs, Trolls (who come from outside the skyfall lands and don't feel the pull back to it that the other races do), Mushroom Trolls (fungus people of various sizes, unrelated to the other Trolls), Snowmen (made of snow, and the necromancers know how they came to life one day), Slimes (kind of like the ones from the Dragon Quest video games, but with different powers based on their colours, also they don't speak any other language than 'Slime'), Satyrs, and just about any other race you can think of can probably be found somewhere in the Grave of Heaven.

That is a good start, I like the family Trouble -- lots of hooks possible there. We can wait on the other 3 Aspects until there are some other PCs ... one of those Aspects should probably include something about magic.

I've taken a look at the setting and... well, I'm in love with it. But at the moment I have so many character ideas that I'd gladly follow the suggestion to discuss about Scale and Big Issues first.
