Overview
left-aligned image

Regina is a fairly dry and mostly barren world in the Georgia system. The mineral-rich planet is known for its massive mining operations. Over three-quarters of the population work in one part of mining industry or another. Most of the mines are run by the Corone Mining Consortium, although there are still a few local owners hanging on. Corone’s workers are underpaid and their working conditions can be extremely dangerous. The miners of Regina take a stoic pride in their work and the suffering they endure. As if things were not hard enough, the ore-processors and atmospheric conditions of Regina has created conditions for a disease called Bowden’s Malady, a degenerative affliction of the bone and muscles that leaves victims weak and in constant pain. While there is no cure, regular treatment with Pasceline-D halts the progression of the disease and makes life tolerable. The Alliance sponsors regular shipments of the expensive drug to Regina. The drug is drop-shipped to central location and delivered by train to the individual mining towns. The people of the world are dependent on this government handout, though shipments are not as frequent as they should be.

DM's Note: Firefly episode "The Train Job" takes place on this same planet.

Whitestone Valley, Regina

Whitestone at first glance is typical of any of the hundreds of mining towns on Regina. It’s big enough to be a functioning trading hub for the region, yet small enough to go by mostly unnoticed by most of the ‘verse. The entire local economy is centred around mining, with nearly the entire population either working in the industry or an industry that supports it. Like across most of Regina, there is a strong affiliation with the Independent’s cause amongst the residents of Whitestone. About a decade ago the local governor, former Browncoat Sergeant Loredo Florence, used this fiery sentiment to drive out the Corone Mining Consortium from the region. Thanks to a complete lack of oversight from the Alliance, Governor Florence then proceeded to rule this region with an iron fist. His town and holdings are beset by adversaries both internal and external. The Corone Mining Consortium desperately wants to regain control over the local mines, whilst the infamous White Lotus Tong seeks to subvert the overwhelmingly Asian indentured workforce. So far Loredo had dealt with these outsiders with surprising ease, however the biggest threat to his dominion has come from an unexpected place. When a small town of backwards mountainfolk mysteriously took up banditry they single handily managed to throw the entire region into disarray. The “Gracetown raiders” as they came to be known wreaked havoc by destroying vital train shipments of medicine and pillaging the local farmers that feed the region. What was once thorn in his side now looks to threaten the Governor’s legitimacy unless it can be resolved.
