Uriel Skywalker and Gael-Taath-With-A-Mace-Windu
right-aligned image
left-aligned image
Having expected the barrier to fall from such an attack as that Uriel was somewhat surprised to see it still standing. So surprised that the shot from the white hex wing took them off guard, piercing their chest. The bolt dug deep, golden liquid leaking from the wound, but despite the seeming effectiveness of the attack, the Deva seemed mostly unphased. Uriel pulled the bolt from their body and brandished it high like a javelin, "Mere wood and metal cannot fell an emissary of Helm! You shall pay for making light of me!"

The bolt Uriel held above his head began to glow the warm yellow that his mace usually sheds. With a flap of their wings, the Deva moves back towards the Katana, having noticed its increasing forward movement. Uriel then let loose the bolt from their hand, smashing into the shield and shattering as the divine energy erupts with it.

As the Katana sped up for its ram, Uriel landed on the bowsprit, brandishing their mace. Meanwhile, Gael was fighting off the pain of the shrapnel. Many of the pieces that flew his way struck him and even though many failed to pierce his Goliath skin, a few managed to draw blood. Gael loaded the ballista as fast as he could while hoards of ghostly goblins raised to the deck of the ship, but the lingering wounds slowed his actions. After loading the bolt, he suddenly noticed the forward momentum of the ship increasing. It dawned on him that Errol, the ever-eccentric bard, was winding up for a ram. A risky maneuver, but he could trust the bard's judgement. Looking around for a moment, Gael noticed a goblin-ghost had appeared directly beside him, to which he reacted with contempt. Who summoned such distasteful beings...? Varr was the only candidate that came to mind, but surely that goblin was far too moronic to handle magic. Shaking off the negative feelings, he braces himself onto his turret, gripping the controls tightly.

Uriel, now planted onto the bowsprit, raised their mace, now engulfed in a shining, yellow light, and strikes the shield just as the ship connects. Their magical body strains to keep posture, driving the radiant energy directly into the barrier.

Sway was lining up the next shot when the explosions came and Jinn was hefting another bolt in preparation. They could do nothing as shrapnel and wood pelted flew at them or so Sway thought. The next moment Jinn is leaping in front of Sway yelling, ”I am one with health and safety, and health and safety is with me!” It was a curious mantra and in the short run did little to stop everything imbedding itself in his body it did, however, stop stuff going into Sways. A thud was heard as the shredded body fell to the floor with a wet splat as red foamy bubbles were coughed up with Jinn’s last breath. Sway looks down horrified at the stupidity of this human.

”Unless you have a friendly god or magic on your side words can do little against that stuff. SUNSHINE!” Sway looks down around for her scaly partner. Sunshine has a few splinters sticking out of him but at least he is still breathing, and looking more like a porcupine than a plucked turkey now. ”Ahh glad you’re not as silly as that one. Y’know maybe we could ask mr angle if he could get this one back up.” Sway waves at the Deva trying to catch its attention. ”Helllooooo mr Helm Angel yer think you could use your super divine hoodoo to get this fellow back on his feet?” It would probably be more about getting Jinn rolled into ball then moulding him into human shape again than just reviving him, but Sway did not realise that.

Position: G12

Player Turn Summary Round 2
left-aligned image
Thanks to Errol's alignment of the airship, most of the crew were able to avoid the worst of the impact shrapnel. Varr put his body in front of a chunk of wood that would have split open Finn's skull, and fortune would see Alvyn's small body flung from the spell turret and into the path of anothe deadly chunk of would that would have pierced Ri-Pio's chest,. Both gladiators felt the rage build within them. Varr unleashed his with such fury that it momentarily called up a horde of ghostly goblin ancestors as he blasted the force shield with a powerful ballista bolt. Alvyn struggled to choke his down, returning to the spell turret, but unable to find the mental balance required to work it while his ward tottered forwards to extinguish one of the fires. Jinn Liamson, bravely leapt in front of Sway, saving the tabaxi from serious hurt as a loose chunk of whilrling metal spun throught the air and cleanly decapitated Nala's faithful worker. There was no coming back from such a horrific death. Jinn was dead dead.

Boussh leapt down and extinguished the other fire before returning to Shimm's side as the warrior blasted the shield with three streaking scorching bolts. Nearby the hex wings unloaded a barrage of heavy bolts against the shield which began to flicker intermittently from the stress the gladiators attacks was placing it under as Oakheart brought up a protective shield over the most badly damaged starboard side of the airship. With some encouragement from Errol, the firbolg was able to extend the shield over the portside deck as well. That was right before Errol, having as much fun as a baby in bath water, lined up the Katana with the force shield, and literally put the foot down.

SMASH!

The Katana, not being named the Katana for nothing, scythed straight through the shield like a hot knife through butter. The shield disintergrated into fine dust that covered all of the gladiators with a sparkly cyan sheen as they passed beneath it, before its power sank into them. To some, the feeling that followed was slightly familiar - one's body began to humm, muscles came alive, the world slowed just a touch as you sped up. It was the sensation that those who had saved Nala and stopped the birthing of the Brain had felt upon first entering the Naumachia. It was strange, but for a moment one might have sworn they saw the mocking face of the djinn in the clouds as its stolen energy had the last laugh on his captors.

Piercing through the barrier, Gael and his Helm-sent angelic companion, Sway and Spite were able to fire upon the enemies atop the castle ramparts themselves or the white hex wing, rather than at the shield. As Uriel burst through the shiled the deva realised that there was no need to strike the destroyed shield, so he hurled the hex wing bolt back at Jason's white hex wing, striking it with a bright explosion of radiant light.

Important Mechanical SummaryBoth fires are extinguished before they spread or cause any further damage

Varr makes DEX save and saves Finn; enters rage and Hits Force Shield with Ballista
-> Crew gain resistance vs Damage caused by Shield
Alvyn fails DEX save and saves Ri-Pio; loses attunement and fails to reattune to Spell Tower
Shimm hits Force Shield with 3 Scorching Rays

Zartos and Bodyknock hit force shield 3 times from Black Hex Wing
Tom and Gala hit force shield 3 times from Red Hex Wing

Oakheart successfully SHIELDS area 4 and 5 with Bardic Inspiration Boost: ALL creatures in those areas gain Resistance to ALL damage in Round 3 while on deck

Errol makes a CRIT successful RAM check and obliterates the force shield
-> remaining PCs are freed to prepare/directly attack enemy targets

Applied the Deva's first attack against the already destroyed shield as a Javelin throw that hit the White Hex Wing instead.
(Gael re-loaded the Ballista as his action before I could post the DM info update incoming, so I will allow a take back on that action if you prefer Duskers if having a loaded Ballista deos not interest you and you intend to go melee instead)

Spite, Gael (not crossed if if take back option to go melee is chosen), Uriel, Sway (Jinn if alive) and Sunshine may take two rounds worth of actions this round - I thought it was more beneficial to the group than have everyone wasting further actions against a destroyed shield

Bonus 'Shield Dust' EffectThe residual energy of the Force Shield that soaks into you, increasing your speed:
All creatures in the area are effected by the Expiditious Retreat spell: You can use the Dash Action as a bonus action.

NB: Creatures that can already Dash as a bonus action (Tom) gain +10ft to their base speed this encounter

Enemy Turn Round 3With the Katana closing in on the ramparts of the skycastle fast (very fast), the gladiators could see the force working within that was bent on detroying the city's navy (and who knows what else ... but certainly also the pesky, interfering kids on the Katana). From the castles innerwalls, guards worked with hulking half ogres to reload three mighty trebuchets. Two mighty fire cannons, each manned by two impossibly large grey skinned duergar already began to glow dangerously as their magic built within the arcane contraptions inner chambers. Six ballista were mounted upon the turrets of Skycastle's outer wall where their respective crews of two guards and a half ogre, working hard to reload and prepare the mighty weapons for another barrage of destruction. On one of the larger tower turrets a huge spell tower crackled with green tinged electric energy. It was a good thing that most of Skyfall's defenses were concentrated on the boats below. One shuddered to think what fate the Katana might meet if they were not.

The sweet and familiar sounds that reached the gladiators ear amidst the destruction was most disturbing. It was disturbing because nearly all those aboard the Katana recognised the songstress who sang the haunting tune: Linda! Yes, the stunningly beautiful half elf who had sang for many of the crew during their first battle in Simon's arena. The desperate woman in need of a burglary who had sent Shimm into a bareknuckle match with a Yakuza bearserker, and crawling through ooze infested sewer waters to steal 'Weeping Sticks' from the city's alchemist, Mr Rumple. What was worse was that it seemed very clear that Linda was not a prisoner. At least not physically. In fact it seemed as though she were running the show from atop a turrent at the centre of the courtyard!

"Ballista, take out the sails of that airship! It must come down immediately! Fangs, see it is done! Trebuchets, maintain fire upon the navy! No warship must remain active! He expects the path cleared. Slaves, fire down below! Simon, my love, do you see the enemy approach? They have taken Bloodfall's navy! And now they come for your castle!" The speed and clarity with which Linda issued military orders and twisting manipulative overtures all while calmly playing the lute was unsettling. The speed with which the armed forces at her command responded was frightening!

All of Skyfall's ballista crews turned their seige weapons upon the approaching airship, their aims tilted up to blast into the sails and masts. A genasi woman sent a great crackling green line of lightning ripping through the masts as well. The destruction upon the Katana was massive, though the good news was it crippled the airship rather than murder its crew. The fire cannons sent down two streaking bolts towards port that exploded into two huge fire balls amongst the boats below, while the trebuchet crews reloaded and refired their huge boulders over the walls.

The white hex wing continued to make a nuisance of itself, for now undirected by its general. A fiery bolt exlpoded into the side of Tom's hex wing engulfing it in sticky alchemist fire which took hold and began to burn both its occupants and the flying golem itself. One might have expected some cocky quip from the white hex wing's famously mouthy pilot as it swooped away, but none came. Instead his equally silent co-pilot fired a heavy bolt into the side of the black hex wing.

You are probably wondering what happened to the airship Katana after its masts and sails were massacred by lightning and monster sized bolts. Well the handy thing about this airship was that it was the dilithium crystals keeping it 'afloat', the sails were basically part of the steering and speed mechanism of the vessel. So as the Katana scythed through the force shield and barrled forward, Errol doing his very best to line up Simple Simon's boulder turret, all control over the steering was shot. Thankfully though, as the sails were obliterated, the speed was drastically reduced, because the Katana was on a crash course with the Skycastle's ramparts.

KERRUNCH! The Katana barrelled into the top of the wall, obliterating the ballista and its crew nearest Simon. The airship barrled onwards, churning through solid stone and hammering into Simon's tower with a sickening crunch. The cloud giant had just hurled a massive boulder down at the ships below and turned to regard the oncoming airship with a dumb look. The impact of the Katana was enough to shake his tower and send the giant tumbling backwards over the side, down into the court yard some 20 feet below. Simon did not look very happy about this.

The bird had landed 'safely', though the impact did threaten to throw everyone not properly holding on to something, down hard against the deck. The seige could now begin!

Spite
left-aligned image
Spite shut her eyes tightly as shrapnel rained over her. She was not liking this at all, the ride, the battle, everything! Blood seeped from the tiny woulds on the exposed flesh of her arms. While holding onto her position, she did her best to dodge some of the painful debris biting into her skin. It was difficult holding onto the ship, but she managed as best as she could. It was difficult, but she would not let her allies down. When the dust settled she stood on both feet, shaken up but relatively whole.

With enemies everywhere, as far as the eye could see. Not for the first time that day, she asked herself what exactly she had gotten herself into. She had come for the gold and the glory, not some war with impossible odds! She sighed, and picked an enemy at random and committed to take it down. She may as well make herself useful. Airships, she knew little about. A proper battle, on the othe rhand, that she knew how to handle. Taking out her want and red orb, the tiefling began her spellcasting. Pale lips moved as she uttered arcane words in her masters tongue. Her words were swallowed by the sound of the strong winds and shouts of war.

Spite's first eldritch blast hit her target, of that there was no doubt in her mind. Even at such a great distance, she could see her target reeling from the pain of the blast. She smirked cheerfully at her success. She then quickly began to cast a second spell, trying to repeat the success of the first. But in her overconfidence, the second spell did not have the same success as the first. She sighed, disappointed with herself. She did this too often, she rushed through things after the littlest taste of good fortune.

Readied actionThese rolls are void since i unknowingly missed a turn. My mistake, apologies.
Dice Ballista damage rolls:
1d20+6 (18)+6 Total = 24
3d10 3, 6, 2 Total = 11

AlvynAs the airship katana shudders with impact, Ri-Pio is thrown to the ground. Alvyn manages to not only remain standing, but he also manages to regain control of himself. The little gnome offers a hand to help Ri-Pio to his feet, "Help me, Ri-Pio. What do you know about these spell turrets?" Ri-Pio looks at the turret, which the impact knocked askew from it's mount, and replies frantically "I really don't see how that turret is going to help! Surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative in extreme circumstances! The chances of our survival are 725 to 1."

Alvyn glares at his companion and snaps, "Don't tell me the odds, just help! Hold this up so I can concentrate on the energy." With that, the gnome once again places his hands on the smooth crystal and closes his eyes, feeling the mystical energy. This time the flow snaps into place immediately and Alvyn opens his eyes. Fire starts to spew out of the turret and he directs it towards one of the guards manning a nearby ballista. Once he has the turret under control, Alvyn pulls a wand from his belt and levels it at Linda. He remembers her from Simon's castle, and even if he doesn't remember the actual battle, he remembers the feelings her song inspired. He doesn't want to hurt her but she cannot be allowed to destroy Bloodfall, even if she were being controlled by one of those brain things.

With a flick and a swish, the energy in the wand is discharged towards Linda and Alvyn turns his attention back towards the spell turret, dropping the now useless wand on the deck of the Katana.

"Arrogant Errol" Quarterpine
left-aligned image
As the Katana crash landed on the ramparts of Skyfall, Errol's jubilation was cut short. The force of the impact was too much for the svelte half-elf. He managed to keep a grip on the large steering wheel of the airship, but the entire thing came free of its hub and smashed him in the face. Errol toppled backward violently into Lando, who was also not strong enough to keep his footing. Both roguish men lay dazed in a heap on the planks of the helm with the useless wheel atop them, and helped each other to their feet. The erstwhile captain put one leg up on the detached wheel as if posing for a sculptor and smiled, despite the bleeding wounds on his arms and the purple lump on his forehead.

"Well, you can forget your troubles with that 'impregnable' shield. I told you I'd 'pregnate it!"

The bard looked around and saw that no one was paying attention, and Lando was scowling at him. He scrunched the side of his face and frowned.

"...Don't everyone thank me at once."

The astute Yakuza rogue grabbed Errol's shoulder and pointed up at the mast, which was ablaze with magical fire. The green flames were plainly spreading, dripping down the pole like wax on a candle. The two acted decisively and ran as a team, Lando sliding down the ladder and Errol using his newfound acrobatic skills to somersault down from the helm with one hand. They scrambled up to the platform and swatted at the flames with loose pieces of sail. As the green fire reached the deck, Errol looked around desperately for water and then shrugged. He started tugging on the cord of his trousers with the intent of hosing the fire down the all-natural way but was stopped by Lando, who found a full barrel nearby. The two filled pails from the emergency water supply and threw the contents on the flames with some effect. Although it was not extinguished, the fire was slowed significantly, and a steamy mist floated toward the poop deck.

While he tossed bucketfuls, Errol called out to his goliath friend over his shoulder. "Gael! Something ain't right! You know Linda's no evil mastermind! What the Helm is going on here?!"

Sensing an impending counterattack from the castle's defense force, the bard and his rogue drinking buddy scurried for cover and plastered themselves to the side of the helm.

Zartos cheered as the shield went down but suddenly found himself in danger with the alchemical fire covering his Hexwing. Quickly he worked to snuff out the flames before putting the Hexwing in a straight intercept course for the White Hexwing. "I'm going to return the favor you get a clear shot on it!!" Lord Zartos called back.

The closer the got to the Hexwing though the easier it was to see how insignificant his rivalry was... was that Simple Simon? What was going on here? Were all of these people enslaved like he had been?? He was going to need to help them.

Activate those Helmet Visors! :cool

Tom Cat: Round 3
right-aligned image
Tom Cat shakes off the effects of the Alchemist's Fire Bolt that the White Hex Wing had launched towards them "Gala, Darlin’, are you alright?!" Gala responds with a tone of anger "Yeah, I'm fine!" and begins padding out the fire on the Red Hex Wing immediately!

Tom Cat then yells out and advises all Gladiators "Hey! The lot of you! listen up! Activate the visors on those Crystal Helmet thingies! There are some ugly ass squid faces 'influencing' the Sky Castle's Crew! Linda included! Activate the Helms and see for yourself."

Then Tom Cat proceeds to fly the Red Hex Wing to complete his own flyby attack against Jason the traitor. His first shot nearly misses, but he recalls the inspiring stories of Lord Zartos and keeps a steady hand on his shot! The second shot smashes into the target's back end. "Once you've gotta chance, Gala, I'll need some help finishing off that White Hex Wing!" His sentiment coming from angst, after seeing the damages to his own Hex Wing. What's the matter, Fly Cat, can't hit 'em like I can? Tom Cat shakes his head at Gala's notion "apparently not!" and turns sidelong and upward, away from his target, looking to make another comeback shot.

”WHOOOOOO!” Yelled Sway as they hurtled towards the barrier, ”Whooooah!” As the barrier exploded and sank into everyone. ”Uh oh!” as they crashed into the castle. Her claws instinctively dug into the planks and her moment did not stop at the same speed of the ship. Wheeling her arms frantically she remained upright and let out a sigh. Yet a moment later a high pitched keen was heard. Sway rushes over to Sunshine kneeling down beside the limp form of her new friend. ”Sunshine! Hey Sunshine stop playing dead I haven’t even taught you that trick yet. Look we haven’t even fought together yet you can just give up like that.” Sway licks the raptors wounds hoping something would happen but nothing did. Suddenly she was scrabbling in her pockets for something, emptying them out onto the deck of the katana. Random bits and pieces flew everywhere from coins to a jewelled comb to five odd shaped iron nails. Eventually she pulls out a red vial and plucks the cork free with her claws. Prying open the little raptors mouth she pours the content down its gullet. Really hope this liquid does what the grey talker told me and works on lizards. Nothing happens for a moment but then Sunshine jerks once, twice, then rolls over and jumps to its feet. The shrapnel is being pushed from his body and the wounds closing over very rapidly. Just like that he is completely whole again not a scratch on him. ”Pine needles up my nose that was incredible! You good little guy!” Sunshine lets out a yap and scurries around her.

”Right then we’re back in action. What’s going on?” There is fires going on, people putting them out, bolts flying, magic zapping and chaos erupting. It was fun. ”Umm well those guys are a little close to our ship wouldn’t you say Sunshine. How about we go say hello to them with our claws?” The pair rush across the deck ignoring the fire and others, the blue energy fueling their legs as they skid next to the one of the tower guard. Due to the height difference between Sway and Sunshine it make it difficult to defend against with one going for the ankles the other for the throat. In the end blood leaks from both as Sway flicks blood off her claws and Sunshine licks his scaly lips. It seems the pair were an effective and Sway have not even drawn her sword yet.

Position: H39 and H38

World Heavyweight Champion Uriel and his Manager, Gael-Taath
right-aligned image
left-aligned image
Gael gripped tightly to the ballista turret as the Katana rocked to a stop on Simon's sky castle. His feet kept firm as his entire body shook, staying upright. He grabbed his shied and held it above his head as the artillery fell upon the ship, using it as an umbrella against falling debris as the Katana was shredded from each impact. After the hellfire ended, Gael lowered his shield to see Uriel flying off the front of the boat and stopping on the ramparts of the castle.

Errol's words rang through the air after the crash. Yes, it wasn't usual for Linda to act in such a commanding role. Mind control, it had to be. Confirming his thoughts, he hears Tom's disembodied voice. It would seem the summoning from the Naumachia wasn't the final plan for these otherworldly, grotesque creatures, "It's just like before! Everyone, keep in mind the people you will be fighting are most likely under the control of otherworldly creatures! They may be innocent!" With those words, Gael activated the invisibility visor and bolted with his new-found speed to reach Uriel, who was looking over the edge of the ramparts at Simon.

Without turning their head, Uriel spoke, "A cloud giant...but he is not right. Cloud giants hold themselves up to more majesty than...this. What is plaguing him?"

Speaking quickly to not waste time, Gael explained as best he could, "Fell from his sky castle. Hit his head. Became "simple", like a child. Oh, and he's probably mind controlled right now. He's extremely dangerous, but you seem to be our best hope to take him on, so take this. It's an enlarge potion." He handed the Deva a green-yellow vial before bolting off down the ramparts towards the half-ogre and trebuchet.

Staring at the anomaly before them, Uriel raised the vial to their mouth and drank from it, holding it as if it were a goblet. As soon as the potion soaked into their divine being, the Deva began to magically grow. Every bit of their body enlarged in a somewhat slow process while they dived from the ramparts down to Simon, "Dangerous you may be, but lost and confused you still are. You are simply a child trapped in a body of destruction. I shall not hurt you. Just hold still, simple one." The now double-sized Deva then barreled into the chest of Simon with a THUD, shaking the ground of that entire corner of the sky castle. The force of the blow was enough to knock the giant down to his back, where Uriel then closed in to grab his shoulders, grappling him as a wrestler would.

Up above, footing was tough to find as the massive bodies moving below caused the stone to shake violently. But so determined was Gael to halt any approach to the ship that he sprinted on. Raising his morning star to the air, he closed in on the half-ogre and slammed it into the side of their waist. He was unsure of the damage given, but this was more about holding them off than dropping any bodies. If they could just find these invisible culprits Tom mentioned, no more innocents would need to die...

Position: Gael: k24 Uriel: g26

"Ah, I thought it had something to do with sheep," Oakheart replied. "Yes, we have foreplay, sometimes with eight or ten persons at once."

The nuances of firbolg mating rituals are best left to the imagination, or even better, not imagined at all. Speculation of who one’s parent or offspring might be was a major occupation among the woodsy half-giants. As the Katana penetrated the shield, Oakheart had fond recollections of those by-monthly events known as “Group Hug”.

By the tone of his voice, Oak surmised that Errol might be interested in joining the Group Hug. But as the bard crashed the ship into the castle and subsequently face planted on the deck, Oak deemed him to fragile for such endeavors. As for himself, the firbolg easily kept his footing during the rough landing.

Oakheart chuckled as Simple Simon fell on his keyster. But, his frivolity was short lived as he realized who was leading the attack against them. "Linda? I thought she was on our side," He said with dismay. Then, he recalled the little mind control creatures. They were at the tea party and the training grounds as well. These were their true enemy.

Oak didn’t know how to stop them, but perhaps he could keep them from destroying the ship. Oak tried once again to raise the shields on the Katana. But he still did not have a full understanding of the controls. Only a small shield appeared which protected the west side of the ship.

Upset over his inability to control the shields, Oak gave up his station and headed for the side of the ship. Who knew how much longer the ship would hold together. There were enemies nearby, manning the ballista. Oak drew upon his divine powers to create a spiritual weapon. A large club appeared near the orge. The weapon looked surprisingly similar to his special weapon known as Woody, only this one glowed with a bluish tint. The weapon slammed into the orge, but had little to no effect on the huge brute.

Varr and Finn
right-aligned image
Bracing himself for what would come, Varr knelt down, his hands gripping the side of the ship firmly. Copying the goblin, Finn cried out as he saw where they were headed. "We're gonna hit-" the halfling boy's voice was lost under the monstrous sound of cracking as the ship slammed against the chest of the cloud giant Simon, the hull then grinding to a halt roughly at the edge of the floating island's courtyard.

Ready to get off since he'd boarded, Varr had his bastard sword and shield in hand before Finn had even opened his eyes, the war cries of the goblin horde calling to his very being as he jumped overboard. Now was a time for battle, for bloodshed. Not the first to jump from the half-sundered ship, Varr was still the first among his kin to land a blow... it seemed the only one in fact.

While Varr cleaved into the barrel chest of the half-ogre before him easily the host found themselves with a confusing and outright maddening problem, their blades were intangible! Not one understood what was going on and anger quickly turned to betrayal as goblin's quickly began fading away, not willing to fight in a bloodless battle. No chance the wet their own blades? Paah, there was no fun in that, no satisfaction! They'd rather be among the true horde, at least there there would be blood!

The typical goblinic selfishness was not shared by all however, as the courtyard lost the horde's madness a few stayed behind, keeping close to Varr. The goblin standing upon the thick wood of the sky castle's ballista, his shield raised to intercept any blow the half-ogre dared send his way, Varr seemed as he always had to his dead strategists. His position was horrible, his bravado outright obnoxious and his eyes too wild to see reason, let alone understand any plan more complex than 'kill them'. But his call had brought them to life once more, to aid him in battle even if he himself was not aware he'd done it. They knew how Varr had a way of getting rid of dead weight and even a thought of disapproval from the him may be enough for them to be sent back. So they looked for a way to assist him, any way. Anything to stay among the living another moment and not back in the pit, among Maglubiyet's horde.

A ballista going off above them brought their attention. The boy-slave Varr had acquired stood beside their old Varr, the spectral goblin trying to smack the boy as his shot went flying past the heads of the two druegar he'd been aiming at. A few orders in goblin that the boy more followed on instinct than understood and the pair were taking cover behind the Katana's railing, the boy trying to hide as he reached for another bolt.

Player Turn Summary Round 3
left-aligned image
Spite unleashed a pair of eldritch bolts at a nearby duergar operating a fire cannon, one of which hit the grey dwarf painfully. Shimm cracked his face on the controls of his spell turret, splitting his lip and causing his fire bolt to careen off wildly into the sky. Nearby and quite paradoxically, it was the gnomish barbarian who attuned once more to the arcane spell turret on the side of the ship (admittedly with Ri-Pio's help) and sent a flaming bolt out to smash into a nearby guard melting the man's head like a candle. Just in case Alvyn the berserker hadn't made it quite clear to the tiefling warlock how magic was done aboard the Katana, the gnome also whipped out a wand and tried to curse Linda. It was hilarious! Literally. The spell I mean! The gnome barbarian doing all that magic stuff was marvellous! (And probably not something that was ever likely to be seen again in this lifetime, and thus worth a special mention!). Apparently Linda didn't find the joke funny though, because she didn't laugh.

On the other side of the airship, Sway tended to her fallen raptor who seemed to have snapped its neck in the ship's impact. Her swift attention saves the creatures life and the pair race off together at full speed to storm the ramparts. The guard that was nearest was dead by the time they reached him, meaning the pair were forced to leap down from the ship and attack the half ogre that stood behind him, slashing and biting the hulking creature. Varr and a few of his spirit horde leap off the ship to join the pair in stabbing the half ogre while Finn did his best to fire off what was a very large ballista for a young halfling, and the shot went wide. Oakheart managed to get up a shield to protect the portside of the ship, but frustrated with the controls the firbolg decided to join the fray, conjuring a shimmering shillelagh which tried to whop the ogre over the back of the head. Apparently though it had a very thick skull.

At the front of the ship, Gael rushed forward to hand apotion to his deva ally who expanded to gigantic proportions upon imbibing it, as the half giant activated his crystal helm and the invisible world came into view. The gigantic deva then made the most of the cloud giant being fallen on his back and wrestled Simon and pinned him to the ground, trying his best to neutralise the giant without hurting him. Gael, charged with the shield's speed force, leapt over the rubble of Simon's wrecked boulder tower and charged forward to engage the closest half ogre to the north of the Katana, effectively walling off the ship from being boarded from that direction. His mighty morning star slammed painfully into the half ogre's ribs, causing it to grunt in pain.

At the back of the ship, the two yakuza, Lando and Boussh, and the arrogant bard Errol put all hands on deck to try and control the blazing green fire of the southern mast, before ducking away for cover.

Meanwhile, in the air, Zartos fired an exploding bolt of alchemist fire that lit up the white hex wing and set Jason's hair on fire. The man didn't even scream. Zartos' gnomish co-pilot nailed the enemy golem with a heavy ballista bolt, and moments later Tom and Gala swooped in to literally blast the white golem out of the sky. Bolt after bolt ripped into it and the strange construct lost its ability to fly. It dropped into a direct nose dive and smashed hard into the castle floor while Tom zooped upwards into the sky.

Enemy Turn Round 4The trebuchets continued to pound the navy, sending more heavy rocks smashing into the ships below. The spell tower crackled with green energy once more, sending another flaming streak of electricity cracking into a vessle. One of the fire cannon's concentrated its scorching rays on the ships also, while the other nearer crew of duergars aimed their cannon at the advancing gladiators. The latter were seeming panicked by Spite's eldritch attacks and Finn's overhead shot as their aim was wild,
flying well above Oakheart and Varr's head. Spite however, who practically had no protection, was an easy target even for a panicked duergar. A firey ray caught Spite in the thigh, though the tiefling would have expected the burn to be far more fearsome (much of its potency absorbed by the shield Oakheart had raised on that side of the ship). In the downed enemy hex wing, a flaming Jason could do nothing more than put out the flames that licked at him while his companion saw to putting out the flames that licked at the downed golem.

The remaining ballista operators were having a poor time of it as well. Perhaps it had something to do with seeing their fellow crew men turned to butter beneath the Katana, or perhaps seeing a giant angel wrestling their ill tempered boss to the ground, or a speed enhanced goliath charging across the ramparts at them. Whatever it was, their volley of shots aimed at the overhead hex wings and the aforementioned angelic wrestler were quite frankly terrible. The towers under seige did not even bother with the ballista any more. The wounded half ogres bellowed with fury, drew huge axes and retalliated against their assailants in hand to hand combat. Varr took an axe blow for his troubles, though his anscestor spirit lessened the blow's power with its ghostly shield. Gael almost took a vicious axe blow to the side of the neck. Only his impecable defensive training allowed him to turn the blow aside harmlessly, scraping along the hard plates across his shoulders instead of taking his head off.

"Fools! Bring down those golems! Simple Simon, get up and fight the winged demon!" ordered Linda as she skillfully plucked at her haunting lute. Simple Simon did not need to be told twice. He was simple, but he was also a mighty cloud giant with more than a few tricks up his sleeve. "Puf!" SImon disappeared from beneath the deva an a burst of fine mist. "Puf!" Simon reappeared nearby, back on his feet, drawing a very very big morning star, which he swung with rib cracking force into the deva's body twice, bashing right through the divine warrior's defenses. Such terrible blows would have likely killed most of the gladiators gathered there, but Uriel stood against them, though he was unable to hide a slight wince of pain. "Simon sends you back to Hells, demon! Bloodfall is my city! Skyfall is my castle! You and your horde will have neither! I'll bash your head in first!" roared Simon with self righteous indignation. From above, as Zartos flew by, the triton searched for tell tale signs of jelly gunk at the base of SImon's skull. Much to his chagrin, he saw none. Something else was at work here. "Deva! You will HOLD!" screamed Linda, striking her Lute to give emphasis to her magically charged command directed at Uriel. It was very difficult to oblige a divine messenger to do anything, but the force behind the command was one to be reckoned with.

Meanwhile, the northern mast of the Katana burnt brightly and began to spread its hungry green flames down onto the deck.

Relevant Mechanical SummaryNorthern Mast burns 3d8=24 dmg! and spreads. Each new location will burn and has a chance to also spread further each round. AN Action is required to either lessen the mast fire or put out one of the smaller fires that have spread.

AlvynWhie Ri-Pio held the turret steady for Alvyn, the Katana's mast continued to burn. "Oh dear" said Ri-Pio as he noticed the fire approaching. "I'm terribly sorry, Master Alvyn, but the fire is approaching rather rapidly. At this rate we won't survive." Alvyn's concentration is consumed by operating the turret, distractedly he replies "So put it out, Ri-Pio." Ri-Pio totters over and begins stamping at the edges of the fire, trying to put it out.

Meanwhile, with Alvyn's target slumped lifeless to the ground, the gnome glances over at Linda to see if his wand was effective. Unfortunately it would appear the woman was too serious for the wand. Alvyn was unwilling to turn the turret's fire against her, but Simple Simon, on the other hand... the gnome had no love for the Arena masters of Bloodfall. Deep inside him the quite voice grew louder, Yeees.... Anger. Anger leads to hate.... hate leads to suffering. Make him SUFFER!!!!. Caught off guard by the resurgence of this angry spirit, Alvyn directs the turret's fire towards the giant. Three rays of scorching heat lance out and strike the giant. Yes... kill him, Alvyn... KILL HIM!
