[Characters] Blind But Still Can See: Fëanor Side Quest 1

Not one for combat training, Fëanor chooses to spend his time investigating the world around him.

Which door is he specifically investigating? Make a Touch-Based Perception Roll, feel free to also include the vibration sense bonus as well.

Fëanor is looking for the door that had the clan stuff on it.

Away from so many people, Fëanor is able to focus and finds the door he is looking for very quickly. Running his hands over it, he can feel the detail in the intricate carvings. The wood seems miraculously smooth and no splinters catch in his fingers as the pictures seem to come to life beneath his hands. It's almost as if the animals depicted are trying to rub themselves on him for petting like cats.

One spot in particular seems particularly alive to him and, when he touches it, the wood warms and he can hear the soft echo of a hiss within his mind.

The strange spot on the wooden frame catches his attention, and the slight hiss he hears in his mind startles him. Withdrawing slightly from the door, Fëanor waits a second before continuing his examination. After such a strange reaction from earlier, he concentrates his searching on that spot. He carefully examines as much as he can of the strange spot.

Fëanor is able to make out the shape of a snake, a common symbol for the Lila Clan and healing magic. The wood comes alive under his fingertips once again, but his thoughts are interuppted not by a hiss, but by a woman's voice.

"Are you that interested in my family or is the serpent Quetz merely calling out to a natural-born healer?"

[Gecko]

Facing the voice, Fëanor says, "It was different than the others. The serpent seemed more alive than the others. Forgive me, but what is your name?"

[LuEngel]

"I am Lady Latya of the Lila Clan."

Fëanor can sense as she slithers closer.

"It is often said that the symbols come alive when powerful casters are near. If the serpent comes to you, then you must truly be as gifted a healer as I had hoped."

[Gecko]

Fëanor looks humbled by the words Latya speaks. "I am honored to be considered as such, especially by you, Lady Latya. From your words, I presume it was you who chose me for this quest?"

[LuEngel]

"I was."

She places a hand on his shoulder: "Many people seek power through violence and war. Bonds forged in such bloodshed, while strong, often leave people empty. The journey ahead will be long and someone with a kind hand is needed. I wanted a champion who would heal before he would hurt."

[Gecko]

"I will do my best to uphold that philosophy on our journey. Would you have any advice for a fellow healer?"

[LuEngel]

He can hear the slight scrape of her scales over the stone floors as she shifts beside him: "Being a healer is both a gift and curse for you will often know the pain of others. This truth I'm sure you know and can understand, but there is still the most difficult lesson a healer must learn."

There is a strange quiet in the hall as though the world would fall silent to hear Latya's soft words.

"You must learn that there will be times your gifts will fail, even when you try to save a dear one or when the wreckage left behind by death seems to echo a curse at you. You must understand that refusing to know and feel the pain of these loses, that hardening your heart will cause your gift to fade forever. You have to face death and pain, and know the fear and sadness therein. A healing heart must first be a feeling heart."

[Gecko]

Returning for a short bit to exploring the carving, Fëanor nods. "I will keep these words you have given me close in mind and heart. Thank you."

He moves his hand once more along the curving wood of the snake before stepping away from the doorway, careful not to knock into Latya as he does so.

[LuEngel]

"Fare thee well on destiny's path, my Champion."

There is the soft brush of scales on stones as she leaves.
