No worries, a 9 sufficed. Wouldn't want to go and make things impossible for ya'll, would I? And of note, even though you ninja'd me a bit with that last post, zevonian, it doesn't really effect my post and show should be considered to immediately follow mine for everybody else's reference.

That's embarrassing, I'll have to re-write after work.

OK, not to come off as pedantic, but point of order with the canon. It's not said for certain in the Firefly series, but the movie suggested very strongly that everything takes place within one single mammoth solar system with a very large green zone and that FTL travel doesn't exist. With that in mind, we wouldn't have much use for an interstellar anything.

FTL doesn't exist in the series or movie, that much I know. And I have to agree with you that it did seem like they were all in a huge star system. Wouldn't make too much sense though with several of the planets being in hospitable space (even after terra-forming a sun can only uphold a certain amount of habitable planets without them colliding at some point).

Also, can a multiband send short-range messages? I know it can receive radio waves and record memos, but what about sending short-range messages like a walkie talkie? Is that an extra feature?

it is a mammoth system with multiple stars, 5 to be exact and several helioformed gas giants so technically, interstellar is the correct term.

As for speed, the Ships in the Serenity universe use a pulse drive system for propulsion that travels well beneath lightspeed ( Serenity, a MK 3 has a maximum range of cca 400 A.U. when optimised for max fuel and unloaded and a maximum fuel capacity of 600 hrs of flight time; that would make its speed around 0.66 AU/Hour or 60000 miles/100000 kms per hour. Lightspeed is 300000 km/s).

It would probably cost extra. Sending a message requires a lot more power and complexity than receiving one.

Here's what I figured for Crew Quarters Pre-Killings:
Sullah took a double for his bar
Slade had a single
Hu Li had a single
Devon had a single
Deacon and Hival had to share a double.

Now that things have changed, you can bet your ass that Deacon is going to try and snatch up that double for all his clothes. He cleaned it out, he's staking claim. Hival's not much for interesting conversation anyway.

That would leave a single available that could be offered to James, and Tabitha has claimed to only be helpin us till we leave the planet, so she can stay in passenger dorms.

What ya'll think?

Also, those boxes with Sullah's and Slade's stuff ended up in one of the cargo holds if anyone wants to pick through them.

Ah, that's right. I'd forgotten the multiple suns.

But you're incorrect about the speed of ships. They travel at the speed of plot.

Also, the IC question about names reminded me of something. Since pretty much everyone in this setting has some facility with Chinese, eventually people would figure out (even if she doesn't mention it) that Hu Li isn't her real name. It's Mandarin for 'fox.' Just throwing that out there.

Deacon knows, he just don't care. Whatever makes her happy, he thinks. Going with tradition, he'll refer to her as Li and not Hu. Calling her Hu could get confusing:
"Hu's flying the ship."
"Who?"
"Yes, Hu."
"So wait, you don't know who's flying the ship?"
"No, Hu's flying the ship."
"I just asked the same thing. Who's flying the gorram ship?"
...you can see where this would go.

Ah but that would make for a very funny conversation.

James is used to the military. Cots, coed living, the works, so he wouldn't mind too much where or even with whom he slept in the same room with.

Also I just realized that James could buy an entire Short-Range Shuttle on his own.

A short-range shuttle is only 480 credits to purchase brand spanking new.

Well gee golly. Also, I meant what I said by "interstellar course calculator" as the Verse map I'm going off of shows one main stellar body surrounded by three ignited Jovian bodies and a fourth that's either a Jovian body or a dwarf star. The basic theory being that many of the "planets" are actually moons. Of course, for Jovian bodies large enough to ignite, their moons are actually Earth-like in size and have satellites of their own. So while the ship can reasonably navigate with ease within the Kalidasa stellar system (Beaumonde, Verbena, Newhall, Angel, Freehold, Beylix) the complications involved in flying to, say, Londinium, would leave a good chance of being stranded in the void.

Oh and the gravcart I imagine as being more like one of those big trolleys from Home Depot (i.e. a slab of metal with a tall handle) except it hovers instead of having those squeeky, malfunctioning wheels.
