This has pirked my interest. Definitely a different take on an Application thread. I'll start reading your wiki.

Edit: My choice is for Thubinrue even though it has no other votes. I did like Ormak, but in the end, Thubinrue won out between the two.

I updated the tallies. Seven for Corsa is going to be hard to beat, but who knows what will happen during the work week. A lot of people log in Monday - Friday.

This is a bump. We are still tallying votes for cities. A couple more days without a vote and we will end this round early.

I'll pledge another vote for Corsa. The choice between the perilous wilds of Shuul and the untapped potential of Corsa is a tricky one, but ultimately, I think Shuul is a place I'd rather visit.

I'd love to join and give my vote to Corsa.
The setting is appealing to me for its potential for characters to uncover its unknown past, and Corsa seems the most pronounced mystery of the alternatives.

This would be my first RPG Crossing game and I haven't done a noobie solo game yet. Am I still qualified to apply?

Love the amount of detail to the setting. Throwing my hat in for Nelas.

@Muggins - Good to see you.

@PoohPuss - You are qualified to apply. We are doing this game a little differently, there will be a couple more rounds of voting before anyone posts a character write up. The way it works here is the GM lays out what they want to see from a player and then makes a choice at the end of the recruitment deadline.

@Everyone - I think we have enough votes to know how this is going to work out. It is Corsa for the win. I will start working on three hooks to present and then you all can vote for your favorite. If you are just now stumbling onto this thread and want to vote you are welcome to.

I'll post again when I have the hooks written (might be a day or two).

Hook One
The Coup

right-aligned image
The salt air whipped up the steep cliff side and over the crumbling walls of Corsa. A sharp and acrid smell of rotting seaweed in the summer heat and the scent of the sea itself. The breeze spilled into the bustling streets. Most people don't live near the cliffs for fear of crumbling stones, it is home to the poor, but the salty breeze stretched through the entire city, even kissing the crops on the surrounding plains.

The square was a quiet one, far from the grandeur of the city center and far enough from the market to only have people pass through that had a destination in mind. It is home to a couple of established taverns and an armorer. You just happen to be a local patron of the Blue Gull, a cozy place where you gather with other locals to sip of Corsan Ale and swap lies.

The friendly barkeep is Arvain, a gregarious halfling with a constant sparkle in his eye and a grin that never seems to fade. Jules, another hafling, runs the kitchen and cooks a mean stew, thick and full of chunks of meat, carrot and potato, right now she is working her summer recipes, cold hand pies of swede, turnip tops and beef aspic. These are slightly less popular but all agree it is better than eating stew in the sweltering summer heat.

Hangan Pilg is the human owner and he is a formidable character, not only is he rotund but his personality is ample to fill any room. He won the Blue Gull in a round of dice, three years ago. Though he was inexperienced he quickly filled into the new position as resident owner making himself at home in a web of gossip and the joys that could be found in his establishment. He has become a fixture in the neighborhood as it were.

Hangan set up a stage last year in the back of the Blue Gull and has taken to inviting tellers of tales and singers of songs to come and regale his patrons. He tries to have at least one performance every night and more on holidays. It is a rare treat in Corsa and every night it draws a crowd.

Tonight the orator takes the stage, a dashing man dressed in finery. Most of them wear their best to make their performances, but this man was over and beyond, was it possible that it was real crimson silk and real gold thread that lined his expertly dyed red suede coat? Anything was possible in Corsa, it is a Royal City.

Just as the man is about to speak another man bursts through the door way, panting and holding his side. Swords are leveled at him but all hold and wait for tense moments as he catches his breath, "The king is dead!" He manages to shout it, and murmurs erupt from the crowd, panic spreads as well as morning.

The messenger manages to get to his feet, stumbling forward, towards the stage, "My prince, it is the Count Valorue, he has claimed the crown and an edict of execution on site has been placed on you."

The trail of blood and the marks of the royal livery are now plainly in site, this is really happening. Loss of blood and exhaustion have taken over the poor man, and most of the patron have begun to pour out of the small tavern, eager to verify the change of power.

The prince stands in shock it is Hangan who springs into action, knowing you to be able bodied and a few others in the tavern as well he calls you to his table in front of the gobsmacked prince, "If you have ever been loyal to the crown this is your chance to prove it. Get this man out of here, take him far from Corsa. Valorue will hunt him to the very edge of Adraka. Keep him safe and wait for news of Valorue's death.

Go, you haven't much time, your highness,"
and with that you and your royal charge are ushered out in the alleyways in search of a way to escape a city with unknown dangers.

Hook Two
Treasure Hunt

right-aligned image
You are a member of the Fernathal Treasure Hunter's Association. Established two years ago by your mutual friend Fernathal. The young halfling has been lucky so far and has managed to keep the Association in comfortable lodgings and working excavating treasures along the coast of the Captured Sea. Most of the items have been snatched up by nobles who have little idea about their true uses or the meaning of the odd scrawl that must have once been a language.

Fernathal has always been obsessed with treasure, now a plucky man with a shrewd eye for business he has recruited enough member to send out two teams. Your team is heading to the south to a set of ruins covered in willow trees, it may have once been a temple. Fernathal wants all items of interest, but specifically he wants a solid gold lion with a polished ruby in it's jaws. How he knows that that item will be there is more than you could ever figure out. He has called you for a meeting before you head out.

Fernathal grins from behind a human sized desk, his dusty hair and bare feet sitting on top of a mound of paper work. As you come in he taps out his pipe into a stone ash tray and exhales the last of the expensive smoke away from the group that is gather. He rises from his chair with a groan, despite his relative young age, "Welcome friends, today you are going on one of the most important missions that Fernathal Treasure Hunter's Association has ever been tasked with."

Those that know Fernathal can tell when he is putting on a show, building something up, making a worthless chunk of stone a treasure to the eye of the most distinguished noble. He always seemed to forget that in such a small company they were all used to his tricks, and while he still convinced you all to leave him in charge of the operation he was doing very little of the dirty work any more. He brushed this off, saying that his part was to make the junk they brought back worth it's weight in gold. Cast offs from the last era were now a prize curio among the nobles who would have their guests be shown the oddities with supposed histories as a form of entertainment and braggadocio. It was all the work of Fernathal, there was no denying it.

He continues, "My scholars tell me that there is a legendary item that actually has some magical significance in these ruins. The gold lion isn't some artifact of a dead god worth nothing more than the gold it was cast from. It is a granter or powerful magic and I have a client already lined up.

We might even see ourselves legitimized into a real guild, with all the rights that that entails. No more squatting in squalor fifty feet from the cliff, we will move to the heart of the city, where the real action is. We will be able to afford the finest of equipment and we will never have to eat fish again.

What say you to the future my brothers and sisters? I say it better be ready for us because we mean to grab all that we can!"

Hook Three
Taking Up the Bounty

right-aligned image
Just hours ago the king was murdered. Technically he was sentenced by a majority of the noble houses of incompetence, unwillingness to compromise, and treason against the royal house and all noble houses. They may be trumped up charges, but they are legally valid. The city has been struggling with a surge in poverty and taxes have been slow to come in and less than projected. The king didn't seem to mind, and while Prince Elbin was vocal about the need for progress the King remained silent. Count Valorue has assumed control and is now acting regent. It is however only until the preparation for his coronation are complete.

Count Valorue, or Lord Regent as he has come to expect, has ordered the royal family to be executed as well, down to the last child. Most of this was accomplished during the sentencing of Former King Reagol, as the majority could be easily corralled in the palace. Only one lose end remains, the crown prince is nowhere to be found. No one in the palace is speaking about where the young man might be.

The town guards have been focused on the gates watching for the prince for a day now, and it is believed that he managed to escape in the initial shock that rolled through the city. Bounties have been posted in the city calling for the capture of Former Crown Prince Elbin, noting that the prince or his head can be delivered to the castle for the sum of 10,000 gold pieces. The only advice the flyer offers is that he most likely would not head to sea as the harbor was locked down in case of this very circumstance.

He has slipped through the cracks but perhaps you and your friends can help. A little muscle, a tracker, some magic, and someone who can talk nice to the locals. You will have this run away prince in two days, how far could a noble get without a padded couch pulled by pure white horses anyways.

NotesThe last two are going to be forming a party that already knows each other. Please don't make joint applications in stage three if either of those hooks are picked. It will be handled in the game under the OOC thread when the time comes.

All these stories will be happening in the game at the same time. The last one takes place one day later, but the first two are on the same day. There will be consequences that play across all of the story lines based on what I had planned for each hook. It is a live city in my mind now, with complicated maneuvers taking place by various forces.

Take your time and read all three. Think about what kind of game you want to play. Then make a vote.

Good luck in the voting. I hope you all enjoy.

Of the lot, I think Hook One (The Coup) is the most promising. Not necessarily because it'll be a good fit for our characters' skills - The Treasure Hunt is probably the most appropriate on that front - but because who can pass up the chance to dutifully guard, for better or worse, some soddy prince? There's a lot of potential for bickering and conflict there!

The Coup seems the most intriguing to me. I have not done an RP that straight off the bat deals with chumming up with royalty. It seems like something that might lead into a full fledged war. Might be politically fueled though depending what the prince asks of our characters. Surely it is not enough to just escort him safely.

Vote: The Coup

Reason: When I read through the places and saw that the rulers had been realized I had no small hope that we would encounter them. I've always wanted to choose a faction and have my character's place in their midst be important, and being thrust as impromptu royal bodyguards certainly strikes that fancy.

This conflict could lead to war, to grand things of espionage and action. I don't want to be on the sidelines of that, or trying to eek out scraps of glory. I want in the raven's nest.

Another vote for 'The Coup'. Treasure and bounty hunts are commonplace in many campaigns. I'd rather try something new.

I also like the Coup. It's fresh and it promises hasty fights and long chases, as well as political intrigue.
