What post rate can we expect from you? Ideally 2 to 3 times a week. What is important to you in a game?Engagement from the DM, a willingness to create a personal touch, and a crew willing to cooperate to craft an adventure. Also, some awesome combat to make us feel all heroic is always a great touch. What is not important to you in a game? Games that are only role playing and no roll playing. I like crafting a story, but I want some tension to spice it up. Also understanding the difference in how a PbP and a tabletop game feels and runs. Going back and forth with a dozen skill checks is easy at a table. On PbP it may take a month. How open are you to learning a new system? Always love a new system. What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? [PLEASE PROVIDE LINK]:Working What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you? [PLEASE PROVIDE LINK]:Working What does a normal LONG post look like from you? [PLEASE PROVIDE LINK]:Working What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? This doesn't have to be specific to this setting or game. I generally play the melee basher with a touch of divine thrown in. It has been a while since I played a wizard/scholarly type. Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? Scholar. I was thinking of playing a travelling religious figure. Of course, bridge crew always works. Maybe a priest with a gambling addiction and an empty purse.

The more I read about Singers, the more I'm down for playing a Parshman (if chosen).
Even without official rules yet, I'm sure we'll figure it out. I'll scratch off the other idea from the App.

I have been playing with the character builder at Demiplane. It has been helpful to understand the relationship of the different systems being used in the game mechanics. Plus, it has a lot of the information documented, making it easier to see how choices might affect the game. On a side note, I like their pregen characters because you get to see the choices they made and it gives you advice on how to play that character. Very helpful. After playing with several character ideas, I think I am going to go with some kind of rogue engineer type of character. If the game continues on beyond level 1, I may also branch out into an archer type for range support.

How familiar are you with Brandon Sanderson, the Stormlight Archives, and the Cosmere?
Not at all - I've taken a quick look at the maps though, read some of Brandon's blog, and perused his web page. What post rate can we expect from you? Whenever I need to post I'll post. I like what you say about rhythm in posts, that's what I live by, I like to feel the rhythm of the story moving along. importantly here though is that a good rhythm doesn't mean monotony. It should rise and fall as the story dictates. What is important to you in a game? Telling a good story. Creating and interesting character with depth. Success and failure. Failure often provides great roleplaying opportunities.. What is not important to you in a game? Strict mechanics - I've played games with no mechanics which are great but a lack of rules can lead them well off track, and I've played games where people spend an age arguing over the tiniest detail of a rule which become tedious and stand in the way of a good story. How open are you to learning a new system? Always - as a writer and a poet anything that broadens my horizons - broadens my horizons What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you? : What does a normal LONG post look like from you? What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? I like anti-hero characters (CN) - someone who is out for themselves initially but can't help getting dragged into other peoples conflicts or the hapless hero character who's not equipped for the task at hand but somehow finds a way. Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? Guard (Mercenary)

Question: At the end of this adventure when we advance to level 2, will we be allowed to pick the Lightweaver Path?

Coming back form a long (long) hiatus! I saw this (among the other ads) and wow this looks really cool! So, going to throw my (admiteldy probably dusty) hat in the ring for this! Why not? Answers are below!
1.How familiar are you with Brandon Sanderson, the Stormlight Archives, and the Cosmere? Not at all! Have not heard of him or read anything he has written. But, I am always excited to explore somehting new! 2. What post rate can we expect from you? 3 -5 Posts for week from me is typical. Although, I can adjust to the speed of the game or the current place in the story (i.e. combat is probably a little faster/or shorter whereas narrative posts or introductory posts might be a little longer). I am very much a "go with the flow" person. 3. What is important to you in a game? the story and where each of the characters fit into it. It know that it can be extremely difficult to create a living breathing world with lots of variety and NPCs who aren't just there to sell things, but I like having an idea of where my character (and the entire party) fits within the arc of the story. I am also very much into a friendly table and a good challenge that requires all of the players (and even the GM) to think of a creative solution to a problem. Some of the absolute best experiences I've had on the site had come from a good mixture of these things. I like to try and understand why everyone is on this journey or quest or what have you. What brough them here? What is their end goals? etc. 4. What is not important to you in a game? Combat and Skill Checks. I can hear the gasps now, but let me explain. As a main driver of the story, I'm less of a fan than I used to be. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate rolling dice or engaging in combat, I just don't want it to be the only way to solve a problem. Yes, there will be times when fighting is required (and knowing me I'll throw my character headfirst into it) but I like systems that provide other ways to address problems. Are they always optimal? Maybe not, but that just results in another fun story! I should probably provide an example; which to me is WarHammer 40K. I love the lore, the background stories (and yes I know there's...alot) the overall atmosphere and aesthetic. Anytime I have tried to play a campaign though, it just gets bogged down in combat and never ends up going anywhere. Everyone just ends up frustrated. 5. How open are you to learning a new system? We were all new to roleplaying games once right? Absolutely open! 6. What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? A Black Templar on a MIssion 7. What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you?: Medium Post - Vampire scopes out a storefront 8. What does a normal LONG post look like from you? Panther Discovers that a cowardly human has cloned himself! Scary! What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? A fighter/tank. I've had my fun with casters and wizards. But, right now I want to either soak the damage up or dish it out! Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? Ardent or Bridge Crew |

That being said, I think I understand where you're coming from and we're on the same page. Added everyone new to the app list at the beginning. Shout at me if I missed you!

Just some notes from me, for anyone looking at this who is not super familiar with the source materials:
I noticed that the basic rules give what you need to play the game, but not really enough info to create a character and plan out any kind of progression (they assume you will use the pre-gen characters). There is a lot more info buried in demiplane for sure that we will have to dig through to get a sense of that. I also found this video helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CB_mEp_AfY

Neat!
* *How familiar are you with Brandon Sanderson, the Stormlight Archives, and the Cosmere? Fairly. I've read most of his Cosmere stuff, and some of his other stuff. * *What post rate can we expect from you? I'm usually good for a post every day or two as long as there's something for my character to do, but I try to keep to whatever pace the game is running. * *What is important to you in a game? I like my characters to have a chance to develop as they interact with the party and the setting. I'm in it for a fun story and an engaging group dynamic. A broad sort of arc I like is heroism that doesn't come easy.* * *What is not important to you in a game? I don't usually enjoy major intraparty conflict or PVP. Moral ambiguity is ok but I'm not into evil parties. I appreciate mechanics that support the theme of the game but I'm generally more interested in the story than builds, stats etc. * *How open are you to learning a new system? Highly motivated. I backed the cosmere rpg kickstarter and would like to familiarize myself with the system before inflicting it on my own players. * *What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? Hungar restrains himself * *What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you? Emet takes the direct approach * *What does a normal LONG post look like from you? Mike prepares for visitors * *What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? This doesn't have to be specific to this setting or game. General archetypes or ideas are fine here. I tend toward weird or internally conflicted characters, ideally with quirkiness adding to rather than distracting from the group dynamic. I like my characters to be highly competent at something useful, but that something is rarely front-line fighting. Among the radiant orders I gravitate toward Truthwatcher, but I'm not necessarily set on a radiant path. I've had thoughts of an apprentice healer who became too distracted by his interest in the biology of cremlings to complete his more practical studies... * *Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? Scholar. I think a naturalist could be be a good lens for my own curiosity about the weirdness of the setting.

- How familiar are you with Brandon Sanderson, the Stormlight Archives, and the Cosmere?
I'm a Devotee in the Church of Brando Sando , i.e. I have read all his Cosmere books (including the novellas), and most of his non-Cosmere work. With that said: 1/ I know how to separate OOC and IC knowledge 2/ I don't mind at all if you deviate from canon; in fact it can make for some nice surprise. - What post rate can we expect from you? The advertised 2 posts per week is perfect for me. Sometimes I can make 1 post per day, but it's definitely not all the rime. - What is important to you in a game? I like:
- What is not important to you in a game? Long descriptions (e.g. about the tepid wind caressing the long, luscious blades of grass as the evening gently falls on the valley and the nearby river murmurs... you get the idea). I can like and admire the prose, but it's not what I come to PbP for. - How open are you to learning a new system? When I have free time, I like to experiment. (I started on Exalted 3E not long ago.) In this specific case, I backed the Kickstarter, so I'm very, very interested in trying out the system. - What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? Chucho faces would-be muggers - What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you? Syana the sorceress, Seeker for the Dragonsong, explores a mostly abandoned temple (I haven't been that long on RPGX, but I'm a long-time member of other forums, so I'm linking to one of them.) - What does a normal LONG post look like from you? Introductory post for Cassandra, depressed High Priestess - What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? This doesn't have to be specific to this setting or game. General archetypes or ideas are fine here. In this particular case, I think I'd like to try a Radiant first (probably Edgedancer, though I'd let things develop organically regarding which order makes the most sense). My current concept is a thief with a heart of a gold that gets the better of him sometimes, who got arrested, tried and condemned to be part of the bridge crews. He's trying to escape. (Yes, there are similarities to the Thief pre-gen, but I had the idea independently. I think my version will be more caring/generous.) But I'm not 100% set; options for artifabrian, or Singer, or... could be fun too. - Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? Bridge Crew (but I can adapt to any other if needed) Last edited by namo; Sep 29th, 2024 at 03:56 AM. |

Wel, it turns out I may well have bandwidth to get involved, so ill add my bits n' bobs into the sorting hat.
How familiar are you with Brandon Sanderson, the Stormlight Archives, and the Cosmere? Not at all, well, that's a lie. Someone mentioned the KS on RPGX so I had a look and looked interesting. Reading up on it now What post rate can we expect from you?2 post a week comfortably. 3-4 if necessary. What is important to you in a game? A good story and character interaction and interweaving them into the narrative. In all honestly, if there is no good RP between characters, i get bored. I need to feed off of other characters. Creativity. A sprinkling of a good bludgeoning here and there is a bonus! What is not important to you in a game? Excessive number crunching. Pointless fluff for fluffs sake and super characters who are good at everything or think they are good at everything. Nobody is perfect! How open are you to learning a new system? Very. I like to learn new things as it helps keep things fresh. What does a normal SHORT post look like from you? A Priest walks into a bar... What does a normal MEDIUM post look like from you? A spot of bother What does a normal LONG post look like from you? Re-telling of a journey so far and A Paladins Plight What type(s) of character have you been itching to play? Probably taboo to say, but what the hell. I like playing Lawful Evil characters as I think these are complex and very interesting individuals. They may be morally questionable, self serving, but their are traits that can make them very useful characters, even good "friends". Evil doesn't necessarily mean bad, just misunderstood! Which of the 5 Expedition Roles might you be interested in? I think Ardent speaks to me the most, although Bridge Crew and Scout are also appealing.

Just started the books to see if I can find a good answer to that, I was hoping not to start in 'slaveform' but that can be arranged as well
