Theme Eberron! For those of you that do not know, Eberron takes everything we've grown to love about Dungeons and Dragons and gives it all a fresh, new perspective. It's a more modern take on fantasy, departing from many of the traditional themes derivative of Tolkien's fiction. Some things are the same. Others are entirely different. If you're a fan of Eberron, that's great! If this is your first time, that's great, too! I will be including lots of details as we go, explaining the who's who and what's what of the setting. If you're interested in Eberron, this will be a good place to start.

Flavour Gritty, High Fantasy, Film-Noir, Pulp Action, Swashbuckling Adventure

The Game Plot Summary The city of Sharn is one of the wonders of Khorvaire. Its towers seem to touch the sky, rising up more than a mile from the shores of the Dagger River. But it takes more than stone and steel to support the spires of Sharn: the area is suffused with mystical energy drawn from the plane of Syrania, which empowers all forms of flight. Yet with such wondrous inventions come wondrous tragedies, for when the magic of a flying tower fails, it has to land somewhere... This adventure will follow the Or Deathsgate Explorer's Club, as Rising from the Last War calls it...Deathsgate Guild of Adventurers. Found in Middle Tavick's Landing, the district known as Deathsgate takes its name from its proximity to the gated necropolis known as Halden’s Tomb; a sprawling tower-top cemetery dedicated to an ancient hero that hardly anyone remembers by anything other than name. Established 200 years ago for adventurers and soldiers of fortune, the Deathsgate Guild has grown into a diverse place for open-minded people to hone their skills and enjoy the company of like-minded folk, notably those that Or just outright can't afford...feel unwelcome in the pompous, yet splendorous, Upper City. These courageous, down-but-not-out individuals who challenge death on a daily basis are typically called "Deathgaters" by friends and foes alike and are often thought of as This opinion isn't entirely unfounded...low-class, reckless, unscrupulous mercenaries and rabble-rousers - especially by the members of the Bunch of silver spoon wankers, all of 'em.Clifftop Guild of Upper Dura. This module takes place in Sharn, so it is an urban adventure. It also focuses on the less-noble aspects and players of the sky-high metropolis. This is not a guild for the rich and powerful, but for the common folk of Sharn. The Usual Junk/Application Format Please do not include pictures in your application. A picture is worth so many words, but let's focus on the words for now. Application Name: Race/Lineage: Core and Eberron-specific races preferred. That includes Or the Golin'dar, Ghaal'dar, and Ghuul'dar. If you know, you know.goblinoids, but excludes dragonborn, for me. Alignment: The Deathgaters have a reputation for being "bad news," but it isn't an organized crime ring. They're just outsiders that don't mind ruffling feathers or bending the rules. It's still a legitimate guild that individuals come to for help when they're in a bind or need something done. Alignment-wise, regardless of what you pick, let's presume there's a strong incentive to stay on good terms with your fellow guildmates. Class: Appearance: Again, no pictures. Please and thank you for humoring me. Background: In addition to choosing an actual "Background", think about the following: What nationality, if any?Where is your character from? Great place to start considering bonds and flaws, if you like.What were they doing during the Last War? i.e. What went wrong?How did they come to join the Deathsgate Guild of Adventurers? The Player (Optional): Tell me about yourself, if you like! What do you like most about Eberron? What's your favorite DnD monster? Was punk rock really just a scam to sell hair products and leather jackets? I'm on the hunt for players that I think will contribute to a fun game more than I am an interesting character. Let's chat. Brass Tacks Preferred Material: PHB, Xanathar's Guide, Tasha's Cauldron, Rising from the Last War My personal goal is one decent update per week with several smaller posts to keep things moving in between. I love skill challenges, so those and roleplay will make up 70-80% of the game. Unless you're a bunch of murder hobos, I guess? There's no need to create character sheets just yet, but characters will begin the game at Level 2 with starting equipment and starting gold determined by class/background. 27 Points for ability scores. Levels will advance upon completion of milestone encounters. And of course we're using Hero Points! Fine Print You have until Nov. 11th to apply! At that point, I will be choosing four players from the pool of applicants. If we finish the adventure in good time and the group is still geared up to go, I will consider running another adventure. If you've a question about the setting or how this game is going to roll, ask! I enjoy getting into the weeds with this setting, but don't think that you have to know a lot to enjoy it. As mentioned, this adventure can be a fun introduction to Eberron but I will try to add enough between-the-lines detail to entertain those who are very familiar. Cheers!

It says level 2 in the thing. I don't know a whole lot about Eberron, but I am thinking about this. Not sure I'm in the mood for 5e, though. (I am considering it, regardless)

Edit: I've done research on Eberron, and am slowly leaning more toward joining.

Oooooh, Eberron. Almost certainly will apply -- if I can't make room for ~1 substantial post a week for a good looking Eberron game then I'm only opening Games Seeking Players to torture myself.

Also, are there firearms in Eberron (other than the artificer subclass ones)? I don't need one for my character, but I may need one for backstory if I use a concept I've been thinking of.

Edit: After a very quick search, I suppose my question is more "would you allow their existence, since they don't really fit Eberron"? I have other ideas, so no big deal if you say no.

Personality Trait: I am steadfastly devoted to my religion, I see omens in every event and action. The gods do speak to us, we just need to listen. Personality Trait: I face problems head-on. A simple, direct solution is the best path to success.. Ideal: Faith. I trust the Voice of the Flame will guide my actions. I believe that if I follow her direction things will go well. Bond: Though no longer recognized by my temple, I will always be loyal to the church. Flaw: I view the world as black or white, good or evil, rarely allowing for grey areas.

Description Appearance: Tessa is an attractive young woman of average height with an athletic physique. She has platinum hair that shines like the sun and piercing blue eyes the color of the sky. As I envision it, the Deathgaters are outsiders. They're made up of the sort of folk that the Upper City and the more "prestigious" organizations/guilds would never accept. I'm not saying it's impossible, but that sort of relationship wouldn't be typical of most members.

But if you think you can make a good story out of it, go for it.

Looking forward to seeing your app! I only say 1 decent update per week because I want to be realistic. Life happens. A lot. Like every day. It happened just now! And there it went, again...

But I will try to keep things moving with smaller posts, providing the results of skill checks, answering questions, trying to keep the players from turning on each other, et cetera.

Think of this like a Pathfinder Scenario or an Adventurer's League thing. IRL, it would be a single gaming session of three or four hours, but since it's PbP, that means we'll be at this for Or maybe six months, if all goes well.five years. So characters will probably end at Level 2. If there's another adventure, it will begin at Level 3. And so on.

They don't really fit in my vision of things. In a world where magic is the bedrock of civilization, there are more efficient ways to blow people up.

Definitely interested. My favorite DND Total Party Thrillpodcast has a DM and player who enjoy the setting and they've really made the high-magic/high-'tech' world sound fascinating. I held off on buying the Eberron sourcebook as I never thought I'd get the chance to play in this setting, but it's time to pick it up.
