Ah well, he'll just have to start as a rogue then (All I wanted it for was the climbing/swimming, since Magpie is a wharf rat)

Just wanted to sayThanks for taking the time to read the app! I am currently working on it over the next few days while I get time. Please feel free to comment on it, I have no background knowledge on the camp, and will probably google some of it to build a bg unless a "template" would be allowed.

Tomb of Annihilation is a published 5e Adventure by WoTC
Please state if you have already played this Adventure before or not

I have not, though I do like a good survival anything.

Expected Post Rate: Steady Twice per Week. I intend this game to run long term so only apply if you honestly project the ability to make a long term, steady commitment.
I can post more often than twice per week, and would like a long term game as well! (death happens, though great games are hard to come by!)

Source Books: All WoTC Official Material (not Unearthed Arcana; there is already plenty to choose from)

Sounds good, I am still green to 5th and eager to learn it!

Submission Deadline: I don't really want a drawn out application process. Basically I will be looking for players who I am certain will be active, quality players who aren't likely to flake out on me. As soon as I have 6 players that meet that criteria I will close the submission thread and get the game underway (RL usually head hunts one or two players pretty quickly ... hence 6 to begin with).

Leoparin "Leo" ElelorCharacter Creation: Lvl 1, 27 point buy, standard class and background starting equipment as per PHB. Please include bonds, traits, ideal and flaw. Details can be worked out once the application process is completed. I'm more interested in seeing what character concepts people come up with that inspire me and feel like that would make an interesting mix.

Special Background Feature: Please create a very close friend/family member in your character background who has died and been resurrected before. This will be used to tie your character's motivations to the main adventure.

Yup! Though I'll see how things progress before choosing his roguish archetype. If we end up in the deep jungle he may learn a thing or two from the locals .

The concept is pretty straightforward, Magpie is an orphan, grew up on the docks and streets of waterdeep. He knows his way around a ship as well as the dark alleys. He was 'raised' by a dwarven cleric named Gilbert who followed the Lady of Life and Mercy. The dwarf ran a sort of shelter/soup kitchen for homeless children in waterdeep, trying (mostly in vain) to keep them safe and out of trouble. Gilbert has been raised from the dead before coming to waterdeep. Though his name is actually Oliver, the lad was dubbed 'Magpie' by friends due to his chatty nature (and perhaps a bit of distraction by shiny things).

He never knew his father and only has vague memories of his mother, but it might be interesting if one or both are still alive (and perhaps living in Chult?). In my mind's eye, dad was a sailor and mom was either a prostitute or an island native. I could see him having had encounters with the Logans (being a wharf rat, he likely knows the local shipwrights and may have run errands for Rhett, and given his less than law abiding nature, Magpie might have had a less pleasant run-in with Bernhardt). That would of course be entirely up to Anthrueser and Maskain.

I'll right it up as an application later, but wanted to get the vague concept out there. I've never played the tomb of annihilation, and 2/wk is a good pace for me (I've only got one other game going also with a 2/week commitment).

Weighing the options between Bernhardt being a fighter and a pally. I'll have to come to a decision at some point, but I've been bouncing since I did the write-up.

In other news, read over everybody's work. Glad to see such vibrant characters out of the gate!

Rhett is good to go, nothing else is like to change with him aside from some other character ties. Speaking of that...

Seeing as Rhett and Magpie are of the roguish variety I can see a definite friendship there, he could even have been that guy who taught him how to live on the streets. He is a fair hair older than the boy. I can see dumb old Rhett doing that, giving him bad advice but trying to act like a big tough badass.

"Look, Bern. Olly's a good kid, jest cause he's got a bit too many coin pouches on 'im fer yer liking ain't no reason to bring him in. 'Sides, you got all that working for me on the docks, right kid? Saving up to be a heroic, strong guardsman, right? Protectin' peace and what have you."

Application

ApplicationName: Ruby Robossa
Race: Human (Variant)
Class:Bard of Swords (multiclass with Drunken Monk)
Background:Spy
Personality Traits:I don't pay attention to the risks in a situation. Never tell me the odds.
Ideals: Chains are meant to be broken, as are those who would forge them.
Bonds: I'm guilty of a terrible crime. I hope I can redeem myself for it.
Flaws: If there's a plan, I'll forget it. If I don't forget it, I'll ignore it.
Special Background Feature: Fiancé died.
Connection: House of Spies -Zhentarim Faction
Backstory: Tonight she was sober enough to use her fiddle and sing. As the strings of a fiddle thrum, a beautiful voice soar towards the heaven, enough to enrapture even the gods. . "There are some things, that I guess I'll never know. When you love someone, you got to learn to let him go. When I dream about you, that's when everythings all right, you're in my arms, here next to me, for...e...ever. When I dream about you, boy you never go away. Just close my eyes, wait for my dreams. Cause I can't stop loving you... Ooohh..hoooh.. "

Ruby heart was broken. She was on her way to holy matrimony with the man she had loved when several men entered into her house and raped her. Because of what happened, her fiancé left her and decided not to marry her anymore. Because of sudden shock and overwhelming anger that fueled her rage, she stabbed her fiancé and killed him. Luckily they where able to revive her man. Because of this, she ran away.

She became a drunkard and wasted her life. When all hope was gone and she was about to end her life, the Spy Master found her and stopped her. She was given a chance and a chance for redemption, the Spy Master taught her how to let it go using music. Due to this, little by little she recovered. Now even though she was still a drunkard, she has a purpose and moves on with her life.

OOCSorry for the song, I'm quite caught in the music and thought it was useful for her. BTW I am currently DMing Tyrrany of Dragons module, I don't have a copy of this series but I am aware and has some knowledge on it. I am hoping my character gets chosen as I have already plans for her growth. Hahaha

Name: Achuak

Race: Lizardfolk

Class: Druid (Circle of the Land)

Background: Outlander

Traits:

I see nature is the greatest teacher, and I only see value in the laws of the wild.

I believe there is never an excuse to ever put anything to waste. Something can always be of use to someone.

Ideals: Civilizations come and go, but the wild will always remains. Being in harmony with the natural world means always being at home.

Bonds: Though I seek to explore nature beyond the borders of my home, my clan still raised me and sheltered me before I began to walk my own path. There are few things I would not do to help ensure their prosperity.

The swamps which I have called home since I was a hatchling are precious to me beyond compare. Even above the need to ensure my clan's success, I will see the swamps protected from the abuse of the ignorant. This extends to the natural world beyond the swamp, though nothing will ever compare to the pleasurable feeling of my first home.

Flaws:

I refuse to conform to the useless "proper" etiquette of others, and do not understand why everybody else goes along with such madness.

I cannot comprehend the emotions of others. What is the use in laughter and crying in response to pleasure or pain. It is simpler to just act accordingly in response to the situation set before you to ensure your best chance at accomplishing your goal.

I will not tolerate any wanton harm to the natural world, considering those who would do the wilderness harm with enmity, seeing them as a threat and unworthy of trust until they demonstrate that they can change their ways.

Background:

Name: Oliver 'Magpie' FitzGilbert

Race: Human

Background: Wharf Rat (modified Urchin)

Personality Traits: I ask a lot of questions. I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.
Ideals: Aspiration. I'm going to prove that I'm worthy of a better life.
Bonds: I owe my survival to a Dwarf named Gilbert who watched over me as I grew up on the streets.
Flaws: It's not stealing if I need it more than someone else.

For as long as he can remember, Oliver has lived on the streets and docks of Waterdeep. Although he has a vague memory of his mother, the boy cannot picture her face. The memory is nothing but a feeling of warmth, softness, and an oddly spicy scent. He wears a bent ship's nail on a leather thong about his neck, a lucky charm left by his mother. Life on the streets was rough for a young lad, but thankfully Oliver had a guardian angel in the form of a Dwarf named Gilbert. Gilbert was a follower of the Lady of Life and Mercy and had taken it upon himself to do what he could for the orphans and homeless children of Waterdeep. Many children owe their lives to the tireless Dwarf who kept them fed through the long cold winters and provided shelter and warm clothing for the youngest. One Dwarf can only do so much, however, and his resources were always stretched thin.

In spite of his difficult life, Oliver was a friendly child. He made friends with many of the other urchins and wharf rats, and they began calling him "Magpie" due to his chatty nature. As he approached adolescence, the boy was entranced by the tall ships sailing in and out of the harbor. He ran errands for the dock workers to make the odd copper, and soon became an accepted (if not welcomed) sight at the wharfs.

When Oliver was a teenager, Gilbert became ill. He seemed to be afflicted with some sort of wasting disease, growing thinner and frailer each week. Oliver helped out where he could, but if a cure was found then countless younger orphans would starve come winter.

A day in the life
"HEY! Stop! Bring that back right now!"

Oliver runs down the street, dodging shoppers as he tucks two purloined loaves of bread into his pack. The young lad ducks into the first alley he sees, and leaps up to grab the edge of a storage shed. Straining to pull his slight frame up, he manages to kick first one leg up then the other as a red-faced baker skids into the alley.

"That's three copper, you rapscallion. Bread isn't free! Pay up or I'll call the guard!"

The young thief digs into his pockets and finds a single lonely bit of copper. He tosses it to the ground at the baker's feet and clambers up a drain-spout to the roof of a nearby building. "Sorry, but that'll have to do!" With an overly dramatic bow, Oliver turns and trots off along the peak of the roof, bare feet finding purchase on the clay tiles. The baker shouts angrily, but bends down to take the copper piece and walks back to his stall, making idle threats under his breath about what he'd do if he caught the thief.

A few minutes later, Oliver drops lightly off a different roof into a pile of hay then saunters out of the stable. He waves to another child as he walks down the street. "Got some bread, ya want some? I'm bringing it to Gilbert's place for tha little'uns." The boys chat idly as the walk together towards a squat stone building with a mended sign, "The Lady's Place". Oliver leaps up to tap the sign with his fingers as they enter, a ritual that has become easier as he grows taller.

Eyes take a few moments to adjust to the darkness, and a wheezing cough can be heard from a back room. Oliver tosses the loaves onto a nearby table where a hungry young girl is seated. "Have some bread, Tani, but be sure to leave some for the others!" A look of concern replaces the smile on Oliver's face as he enters the back room and checks on Gilbert. The once rotund dwarf is now woefully thin, his ribs apparent even through a thin shirt. "Hey Gilbert, you'll get better. I just know it!" The worried lad stokes the fire and swings a kettle over it, then pulls a small sachet from his sack. "Let me make you some tea."

Gilbert's brow creases and he starts to speak, but Oliver interrupts. "Don't give me that look now, I bought this. Rhett gave me a few extra coin for helping him at the dock, and you need it. You know the tea soothes your cough."
Well, Rhett DID give me a coin, but the baker's got it now. Besides, you need this more than he does, and the tea-man willl never notice this little bit missing.

Okay, this is the toughest part - not being able to include everyone.

So thank you to everyone who applied. I feel like I have a good group of characters/players willing to get on board, and see no reason to draw out the application process any longer. I'm going to take 7 players instead of six. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the butt down the road.

So with out further ado:

Avner's Korr Shalpag, Half Orc Barbarian
Berith's Sskath Yiskah, Yuan Ti Cleric/Sorceror
Anthrueser's Rett Logan, Human Monk
Maskain's Ser Bernhardt Logan, Human Paladin
Ytterbium's Dr. Anatoly Agafonov, Human Bard
Dakkon's Kayle-Morgan, Human Cleric
Tad's Oliver Fitzgilbert, Human Rogue

If you would be interested in being included in the adventure if I needed to find a replacement in the future, let me know.

Recruitment Back OpenThe game has just concluded the 'Prologue' of events leading up to the campaign proper but unfortunately the game has had several players bow out. Which means I looking for 2-3 new players to take up the torch and join those who wish to carry on.

What has happened so farA terrible curse afflicts the continent of Faerun which is perverting the nature of death itself. Anyone who has been brought back to life through the use of divine spells has begun to wither, decay and die. All spells which bring the dead back to life no longer work. Our initial band of adventurers buried their loved ones in silver caskets to preserve their bodies and agreed to work with their Harper benefactors in order to gain valuable information needed to end this curse, and holding onto the promise of one day either bringing them back to life or giving their souls a proper eternal rest.

The mission took them to the lair of a lich, playing the role of infiltrators while the Harpers distracted the lich with a full frontal assault of the lair. With time of the essence, the infiltrators penetrated the lich's basement intent on finding her phylactery so that the lich might be bribed, and thus reveal the nature of the Death Curse. The brave party fought past undead horrors and cunning traps until they at last found what they sought: the lich's spellbook, the phylactery to her soul.

Meaning to take the phylactery to their Harper benefactor, they arrived upon a battlefield littered with Harper bodies only to witness their benefactor be broken like a rag doll by the lich. Sensing the lich's momentary weakness, the party threatened to destroy the phylactery unless she cooperated. The lich, however, was not so easily bowed, and the party soon found themselves faced with an impossible choice that seemed to break several of the party's spirit: a deal was struck with the lich after one of the party made a great personal sacrifice, taking the party knight's blade strike to protect the lich from harm. The lich kept her word and passed on all she knew of the Death Curse, and now the party knows they seek a powerful artefact named the Soulmonger, capable of reaping the souls of the dead to charge an undead being like the world has never seen. The party also know it relative location: the Island of Chult. Even as I write this, they race to save those fallen upon the battlefield.

Where you come inTo give the story cohesion and to give the new characters a strong bond with those who have already begun the adventure, and events that have taken place so far, I would like your character to be one of the Harpers fallen upon the battlefield: terribly wounded but still alive.

Other than that, your backstory can be anything, so long as it ties into the mission to assault the Lich's tower, which ends in your terrible wounds.

Current Party Composition of Continuing PlayersHalf Orc Barbarian
Human Rogue
Yuan Ti Cleric (Going to multi-class to Sorcerer I believe)
Human Cleric (may re-join at a later date when RL returns to normal)

Your Starting Level will be Level 2
Use point buy and starting gear as per PHB
Any published material is fine
I will give those chosen a single special 'flavour' item that I believe will mesh well with your backstory

Here is a link to the Game Thread. Feel free to take a look and do your homework for inspiration (encouraged as this will obviously tell me you are actually genuinely interested)

What I'm looking ForI'm looking for players willing to commit to a long-term campaign that may run for several years.

Our pace is one or two posts a week. I would like it to return to two posts a week as originally advertised but 1-2 posts a week is also fine.

Commitment to a long-term game is however what I'm most interested in. I don't want to be just another potentially awesome campaign that peeters out and dies. This naturally puts newer players to the site at a disadvantage, as you have no track record for me to look into, but I will give all applications thoughtful consideration.
