Touching base quickly: we still haven't heard a rumor from Vis, and I have family invading my house over the weekend. So we will still have a few more days before action launches. I'm hoping to sketch out the starting posts on Sunday, and get the scenes up for posting early in next week, Monday or maybe Tuesday.

Rumor - Wild - 9Visiting VIP

Silas and Brassavola had an understanding. Silas Guidry was the owner of the one of the fae's favorite nightclub, the Blue Room. Tall, dashing, charming. But when you looked close, if you knew how to look, you could see the mark of his taint, movement under his skin that looked like the swarming of bugs. He let Brassa know when there was something to know, and right now there was.

The fae were expecting a big VIP to be visiting the city soon and asked him to beef up security, as well as well as make sure only the most talented artists were playing those nights. Of course for that info, she owes him...

Great, thanks Vis! It looks like this rumor and set of debts as pretty self contained. That is, at first reading, I don't think it needs feedback from me? Tell if if I'm worng, please. I've added the Blue Room and Silas to my lists of NPCs and locations.

Like I said, I'm going to spend a good chunk of today working up the first scenes. Gimme another day or two, and we should be under way!

Game threads are up! You should obviously just post in the thread where your character appears. Each thread offers a question to each of you that I'd like to see answered as part of your first post. Since it's taken us a while to get to this point, I'll just add a reminder that I'm hoping for a once-per-week post rate.

@Elanir: there's one question that you should probably answer ASAP here in the OOC thread, before anyone posts in your thread. Anne is certainly with Farhad and Andre (because I say so). But is that fact known to them - is she riding along and visible or making noises? Or is per presence currently unknown?

I picture Anne as some kind of supernatural stalker, so no, she has not revealed her presence yet. That said, Farhad’s draconic senses might tell him that something is “wrong” and Andre, who is used to Anne’s ethereal strolls in the city, would probably sense that she is nearby. In other words both may have some inkling of her presence, though she hasn’t manifested yet.

@Wyn: as I read things, this is not an outwardly obvious non-mortal clientelle, correct? Victor might easily see this as a mortal joint where the one Fae he knows wanted to meet? I still think he SEES mortals everywhere even though he KNOWS that isn't precisely true, so this is sort of a good place to hit that home as long as you didn't intend it to be obviously a non-mortal hang out.

Edit: or if @Vis has a vision for this place since it was your creation

It is correct that it’s not outwardly or ostentatiously a non-mortal place. But OOC, it is a place of power for the Wild. Brassa has an in with the owner, and Cole may have some experience with it. If you want to go in playing Victor as unaware of the situation, that can make sense. But if you want to declare that Victor has an inkling of the situation and you want to roll a Faction move to see just what/how much he really knows, that can make sense too.

Vis is welcome to declare more facts about the place. As I’m framing it, it’s sort of (a) too cool to shove their Shadowyness down your throat. But (b) the clientele is comfortable and powerful enough to flaunt what they’ve got, when necessary.

Roger that. Thanks. I don't know, yet, what Vic does or does not know about this place; I have been contemplating the details of Vic over the last few days trying to decide on his voice ... and then you hit me - first post out the gate - with: does he have nice clothes? I safely have an answer for that (which hurls the ball back in your court ()), but it snowballed into several other questions...

Hey jbear! Love to see you jump right in! I guess I don't know what anyone else's experience and/or comfort with PbtA in general is, so forgive me if I say stuff that you (or anyone, as the case may be) already knows. I kind of have a soft spot for the system and really enjoy discussing. I also have a soft spot for this particular hack, and specifically the Wolf whom I have not seen in action.

So ... obviously Wyn overrules me here, but these are my reactions to your recent post.
  1. seriously awesome to take the initiative and just go for it. This system thrives on that simple thing! Oh and the MC loves you right now.
  2. My initial reaction was that this might not be a Hunt, but I guess there isn't a reason it can't be? The things that stand out to me are in the wording: "When you declare a Hunt on someone, mark corruption". With multiple adversaries, do you mark corruption for each? Can all the square-shouldered men be considered a someone for the purpose of declaring a hunt? Just to elaborate a bit on why I initially balk at calling it a hunt: Corruption is the mechanism that represents each character giving in to their baser natures. For the Wolf, that is to just let loose and hunt and kill a prey. The difference between just stepping up to the guy and fighting him in Wolf form (where you are still powerful as ****) and taking him on as a part of a hunt is pretty small mechanically (though Corruption is a finite resource), but narratively it is, at least in my reading, fairly substantial. The difference between attacking someone (even from a place of advantage, like height) and attacking them from a hunt is that personal vendetta against that specific target. Sorry to ramble, but one of the important and often difficult balancing acts in this system is the "narrative first" aspect. Perhaps it is coming in the attack post, but to me the way you describe it now is not a complete loss of control and giving in to the "dark" side of the wolf (needs corruption), but more of a strategically planned attack (no corruption marked, but still equivalently bashing skulls in).
  3. Let It Out. This one is beautifully done in my opinion. As I read your roll and the options presented, you hit with an 8 and chose "Take Control of Something Vulnerable or Exposed" - specifically, the high ground and/or initiative (element of surprise)! (This is mostly just an opportunity to link the mechanics to the narrative in case anyone else is new and trying to see how that all fit together)

General point first, for everyone to know: I will often let game posts sit for a few days until I read them. In a game like this I don't like to do the "glance at my phone" version of reading a post, and I don't want to mark them as read before I've given them my full attention, lest I forget they are there. The point being: if you need a ruling from me ASAP, it will be helpful to me if you could ping me here in OOC or via discord. Otherwise, I might not get back to you for a few days. Case in point...

@jbear and Roe: I don't disagree with anything Roe said, it's all good advice. Particularly with item 1: never be afraid to take bold actions and drive the narrative. Because we are building the story together, as long as you honor already-established facts, it is very hard for you to undermine my "plans". Because while I have many threats and possibilities, I literally don't have any plans. We're playing to find out!

And I agree about item 3: Let It Out is absolutely the right move. I will, of course, resolve all rolls with my next games posts.

For item 2, the Hunt... again, I don't disagree with Roe. I'd just say that I'm totally comfortable with Andre declaring this a hunt. If that's what it is, that's what it is. But the point is well-taken, that the issue is about Andre's intent. If he just plans on shredding these suit dudes regradless of who they are or what they do or what is revealed about them, then yeah, that sounds like a hunt to me. But if he's looking forward to swinging bats and slashing claws, but at the same time he wants to figure out what's going on, then that's probably not a hunt.

Of course, there's potentially great interaction if Andre engages in a Hunt, but either Farhad or Anne see what's going on and think that's a bad plan. So, again, the Hunt is really about Andre's intent, in my mind.

Edit: oh, and as far as your roll, jbear. I don't think there's anything about your session move that allows you to take 1 forward? Don't forget to choose one of the options from the "Let It Out" effects list. And notice that Let it Out marks corruption. So if you're on the hunt, that means you'll have already accumulated 2 corruption! That's fine and fun, but it's a definite choice to go down a certain path...

Farhad is just going to watch this play out - he has no interest in (i.e., nothing to gain) getting in the wolf's way.

@Roekahs Thank you for your feedback! I don't really know what I am doing so it's really helpful! I will take that into consideration going forward when a hunt is declared or not.

Corruption: I don't yet understand the effect of corruption. I am literally as naive as Andre.

Intention: I think Andre is going into this with good intentions which may not line up with the Hunt narrative Roekahs describes. Should I be making a keep calm roll instead maybe? His intention is to take out the weak minions so that he can face their leader and get some idea of why they were looking for him first.
