As Conner shape-changes, most of the council flinches back in surprise and looks over at the massive elf. The only two who do not appear surprised are the two at the head of the table, Louis and Etheran. "The visitors," he begins, pausing as the satyr-girl walks through the door. Bud recalls hearing about a fellow gunman from the caravan that was unusual because he was a saytr, though Bud had not talked to him during the trip. Now it turns out that the 'him' is actually a 'her'. He remembers hearing a group at another wagon being loud as they originally left and were quieted by the caravan master. It was said that it was a goatkin that started getting them riled up. Pandora, on the other hand, has heard almost nothing about Bud...there were a lot of humans in the caravan. When she sees his revolver, it is a different story. Revolvers are very rare and expensive, most gunmen carry multiple single-shot pistols and need to reload between each shot. There were only two other people in the caravan, other than her, that carried a revolver. Etheran begins again, "The 'post-haste' nature of this request was necessary, as you will see. As I have told the others, you are being asked to reinforce a group that has just left heading for Kansas City. This means we will help fund your return to Kansas City, where your caravan came from. If you wish to accompany them beyond that, you will have the same as them." He clears his throat and begins again, "The visitors came from the West, which has not happened in recent history." This revelation is quite a shock to all. Nothing has come out of the West other than monsters and death. Even those were rare as the Spider Forest was near impassible. "They arrived in a stasis caused by some spider poison, but we don't recognize it and there is no idea if they will ever revive. The group you are going to relive took up their apparent quest to find more cities and establish contact. They can give you more details on that. The agreement made is that they keep everything that they find for their own use, unless they want to sell it back to use when they return. In that case we will give a fair price. Additionally, we fully supply them for the journey and help equip them as best we can, and they were loaded with trade goods in KC. They have a crystal that allows them to take teleportation images for easier travel. There are three of you replacing three of them, so the shares should be about the same. The spellstones are more like oils or potions, but easier to use. As long as they aren't buried in your pack, you can quickly retrieve and use one. Simply If it is in a pouch it is a move action to trigger, swift if in hand. If it needs to be directed, it is by thought.crush it and direct it with your mind." He pauses and looks to the graying human Louis, "The companions will consist of a human mage, a humanoid...ish, crafter. He normally maintains a human appearance, but is something else. With the composition of this group I don't see that being an issue." he pauses to clear his throat, then continues, "It also contains a ratfolk There is no bad connotation for this work, it is difficult and dangerous.scavenger with a lot of experience in the Wild, and, um, a catfolk lady warrior," he makes eye contact with each of the three, "My daughter." After taking a deep breath, he moves to the next, "The ones you will be replacing and sending back are two gunman, a human and a ratkin, as well as a elvish looking oracle. Gerard will accompany you to them, and them back to here. He is one of our best guards with exceptional tracking skills. The reason this was called so quickly is that we want to minimize the danger, so we don't want them too far away for replacement. They should have only had a partial day of travel yesterday, so you should able to reach them by dark or soon after if you leave soon. Do you have any questions or requests? Are you willing to take them to KC?" He stops talking, looking to each for any questions.

"Well yeah, that sounds reasonable." Not to most people, but Pandora was not most people, and she wouldn't be here if she was. "I guess the only real request would be some food for the road? If we're running out the door, it would be faster if you could throw us some rations rather than scrounging at the market." To be fair, she had not expected to be dashing into the wilds. Usually her talents were better aimed at local monsters, scuffles among civilized folk. There was wild, and there was wilderness, and usually the latter required great preparation and a lot of prayer.
Pandora was not one for prayer, unless it was sarcastic. She also was terrible at preparation, though she would not turn down free bacon. Ah well. People with the skill to survive out there were in drastically short supply, so you get who you get. All in all, it was probably best to have someone friendly and cheerful than professional. Preparation and plans only went as far as the first murderwolf pack, while morale was useful in any situation.

"Gerard is packing this up as we speak." Councilman Louis responds, "He, and the gear, will be ready by the time you pick up the rest of your gear from your rooms." "The necessity of a rapid journey into the Wild are not unknown; to rescue troubled forays or deal with sudden threats. We are prepared for such things, so preparation takes little time." He pulls out a tooled leather scroll tube and sets it on the table, "Give this scroll tube to my dau...to Joya, the catfolk. Inside is a letter to her about additional rewards if you decide to continue with them beyond Kansas City."

The gathering of equipment is quick and uneventful, allowing everyone to gather before the gate as the sun reaches it's peak. At the gate waits a well build human man in armor, sitting astride a massive warhorse. Another unarmored man stands beside him holding the reins of several other horses, chatting with the man you assume to be Gerard. As you approach, the armored man looks over with eyes so dark you can't tell if they are blank or just dark. "Hello, I'm Gerard." he turns his horse, revealing a shield strapped to the other side of the animal within easy reach, "We have as many horses as necessary ready." He pauses as the last of the group arrives, "The food camping supplies are here," he says as he places a hand on the saddlebags behind his saddle, "The ammo pouch and spellstones are here. Is there anything I missed before we leave?" he touches the pouches at this belt.

Gerard snorts as Conner speaks, "I'm glad they warned me, otherwise that could have freaked me out." he pats the bags, "The provision bag holds enough for four people with mounts for two weeks. We always carry extra in case of emergencies. The ammo has cold iron and silver bullets, a hundred of each, in case of outsiders or aberritions. It seems like a lot now, but they go faster than you think." He turns in his saddle, nodding to Bud as he does, "I was told there were three. Did all of you accept or do we need to wait a bit longer?"

"I dug out a couple that would help us survive, then just a handful." he says opening the small pouch, "Might as well see what we got while we wait for the satyr." He pulls out a handful of marble sized stones, each with runes etched into them, "I have a few rope trick we can use to rest in a dangerous area, but we will likely lose the horses. I also have two purification stones if our rations are gone or ruined." he drops the stones back into the pouch as he goes through them. He mutters to himself for a few minutes as he goes through them and drops them back into the pouch, "Mmm...not bad...oh, that'll be useful...oh damn, that's a good one." Once Gerard finishes going through them, he see belowlists them out, along with what the rune on the stone looks like. "It's a good batch, but we need to remember to only use them when necessary. They are pretty expensive to make."

Gerard grunts acknowledgement as he tosses him a few stones, "Also take a rope trick just in case." He looks back as the OOC: Frag can do catch up writing if he comes back for this part.satyr approaches in her regular manner, "Good, looks like we're ready to go." Gerard passes the reins of the unused horses to the man standing beside him to take back, then moves out with the rest of the group. "We'll go slow for about a mile outside the border in case there is an ambush, then we will pick up speed to catch up." You move out of the town at a rapid pace for a half hour until Gerard slows you down as you approach the barrier. You move slowly for the next hour or so, showing wide fields of grass and occasional copses of trees. The guard keeps a watch out even as slows on occasion to check the ground for tracks. A few hours later he comes to a stop and dismounts in a small grove of trees. "They stopped here for the night, but else big came through here." he taps the ground before pushing back to his feet, "There animals panicked for whatever it was, so it was at the same time." He moves a dozen feet the the side, touches something on the ground and sniffs it, "Blood, troll blood. Not enough blood of footprints for more than one or two...and they went that way." he looks in a different direction, "Our wagons went a different direction."
