Opening Crawl You are a Mandalorian. The galaxy is full of stories of the martial prowess of your kind, but they think you are a dying breed. You know better, no matter the odds stacked against you a true Mandalorian should never be counted out. During the Mandalorian Civil War many clans dissolved or were lost, but many more scattered to the stars. From this chaos, one foundling created a new clan and vowed to make it great. Bel Ferin was a formidable warrior who made a name for himself as a mercenary. Over the years he gathered together more foundlings and adopted them into his new clan, Kirruk. He promised them power and glory if they stuck to the old ways. Unfortunately he died before the clan as a whole had any notable victories or could establish themselves as part of any Mandalorian House, but his daughter, Jan, took on the burden of leadership. Jan didn't have the martial skills of her father, but she was good with money and sold many of the ships and weapons which Bel had hoarded as trophies. With the proceeds she bought a smallholding on Rannon where the clan could safely train and base their operations. This was not a popular decision. The more hardcore clan members left, calling Jan Ferin "the new Satine". That was a year ago, and the remaining clan members have established the homestead, becoming de facto rulers of a small village. The villagers provide food and goods to the clan in exchange for protection from bandits, a deal that almost everyone seems happy with. Now that they don't need to worry about starving, training has redoubled and Jan has begun sending small teams out into the galaxy to find glory and wealth. Clan Kirruk may seem small, but great things come from unlikely places.

What can I expect from this game? Full GM Posts 2-3 times per week. I'll be available to resolve results of rolls in between these and players can incorporate that information into their own posts. Players can also RP together in between GM posts as much as they like (unless we're in a period of structured play such as combat). The game will be structured as a series of missions, each lasting a few months in real-time. At the end of each mission I will award XP and the characters will decide what loot they will keep and what will be donated to the clan. As Mandalorians, the search for better armor and related toys will be a big drive in this game, especially since the team will start with only one measly gadget each. I expect this to be a game with its fair share of combat, but social, technical, piloting and medical skills will all be useful at certain times. The team will have access to a clan ship so they can get to their various jobs, so anyone with a technical bent can tinker to their heart's content. After all of the players have been picked we will have a Session 0 style OOC session where we thrash out how the chosen characters relate to each other. All characters will know each other and may have been working together for a while.

Setting The game is set contemporary with the Mandalorian TV series (although I don't anticipate any crossover), in between Episodes VI and VII of the movies, approximately nine years after the Battle of Yavin. The clan are based in an out-of-the-way sector in the Outer Rim, but the missions could end up being anywhere.

About me I was introduced to TTRPGs late in life, starting with D&D5e about ten(?) years ago. I really enjoyed it, but I'd always been more of a Sci-Fi guy, and it was Star Wars which had been my gateway into that. If only somebody would make a Star Wars TTRPG, huh? Well, lo and behold, there are a bazillion of them on the market! I tried the latest one and fell in love with the system. The dice with their funny symbols took a bit of getting used to, but when you get the hang of it the possibilities they provide are incredible! Anyway, I've been playing the game for a while now. I've GM'd a few games in PbP and have found that it's a great medium for characters and narrative, as long as you can keep it flowing. Luckily this system does that pretty well, allowing the player a lot of agency to interpret the result of their own rolls. I like to facilitate that as much as possible by being active in OOC in between game posts because long pauses are PbP cancer. The kinds of characters I'm most drawn to are the flawed, imperfect, just-doing-their-darned-best-to-get-by types. The kind of folks you root for because they're just so unlikely to succeed, underdogs if you will.

Applications Character Creation Information NOTE: I have included a lot of information below about how the characters will be built mechanically, but for your application you don't need to go into that much depth; you don't need a character sheet, you don't need to scour twenty books looking for gear, I just need to know who your character is in a narrative sense. Unless you're like me and just can't stop yourself building out every iota of a character. If that's the case go for it and have fun!The details are there for information purposes only. I will take up to six players. Any species from I will consider species from other sources on a case-by-case basisany official book except Clones. Human (Mandalorian) is, of course, a good option. Species with body types dissimilar to humans will require custom armor, so they can't use what is found without modification. No Force Sensitive Careers and/or Specializations. The clan does, however, need a wide range of skillsets to survive, so you can choose anything else. Armor will be bought with starting credits and reflavored as Mando (beskar-lite or -free) equipment. The good stuff will be out in the galaxy just waiting for you. 5 Starting Obligation You're not just some sleemo who got their hands on a blaster, you have trained from childhood in the greatest martial tradition in the galaxy; this will be a starting with an additional 150XP, skills can be trained up to 3, and you have 9,000 credits to spend on starting gear.Knight Level game. In addition, everyone gets a free Universal Specialization; either Death Watch Warrior (although let's just call it 'Mandalorian Warrior' because we aren't part of the Death Watch) or my homebrew Mandalorian Forgemaster. FAQs Can I take both Mandalorian specializations? Of course, once you have picked your initial career and specialization, and your bonus Mandalorian specialization, you are free to spend your XP however you see fit. It would cost 30XP to purchase the spec since it would be your character's third, and it is a Universal spec. Can I apply as a non-Mandalorian character? Yes, you can. BUT, I will probably only choose a maximum of one non-Mando character to tag along, and you would need to provide a very good narrative reason for why they want to work with the clan (and why the clan allows them to do so). In this case you would forgo the free Universal Specialization. Wait! You haven't even mentioned the gadgets yet! I want my jet pack/mini missile/wrist flamethrower/whatever! Settle down, I've got you! After you have spent your 9,000 credits (which won't go far, maybe think about taking extra Obligation for more credits) you will get to choose ONE toy from a list I will provide in the game threads. Free armor! Yes! You heard that right! Free armor! So you can spend all those lovely credits on more deadlyexciting things! (limits apply, see game threads for details. Do not wear your armor in the bath.)

I'm intrigued, though I'll have to think a bit about potential character concepts. As a point of clarification, is a "Mandalorian Character" one who has been raised in the culture from childhood? Can adults join the clan, and would they be "Non-Mandalorian Characters" since they weren't raised in its ways if so?

The clan is open to adopting outsiders as long as they follow the rules and adopt the culture. Your character could have joined the clan in adulthood and is perhaps just starting the select Mandalorian training (perhaps you would choose to spend very little of your starting XP in the Mandalorian specialization that you choose to represent this, but that is up to you). Basically, if your character chooses to wear the armor and follow the traditions they can be considered Mandalorian. If they want to stay separate from that you can apply with a non-Mandalorian character, just let me know why they're with the clan.

Is this using the SAGA edition rules or another? If another is there a link to an SRD or such. I love Star Wars and would like to apply, but need to figure out the rules first. Especially character creation.

It's the Fantasy Flight Games version (I'll edit the ad to make that clear). You should be able to find everything you need to get started here, but I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

Edit to add; remember that you don't have to create a full character sheet to apply for the game, so just browsing the various species, careers and specialisations to figure out what fits your character concept best should be enough for now.

Are Mandalorians by definition Human? I can work with that, but I'm just curious. Oh, and are Mandies also bounty hunters by definition?

At the moment, I'm thinking of applying. I prefer playing pilots or explorers. But we'll see where inspiration takes me. I'm not used to playing character with so much history (150 xp worth), so I'll have to think more about where the character came from.

No, any species could be Mandalorian but humans are by far the most common. Other species could either have been adopted into the clan, or maybe they are a descendant of someone who was adopted in the past. As long as they follow the code nobody will complain.

It might be hard to find character art for non-human mandos, but a description will suffice anyway.

These guys can take their armor off when they want to, the people who can’t do that belong to a particular extremist sect. They just have to have armor, train to fight, and follow a code.

Droid characters are fine. Like I said in the FAQ I’m happy to accept up to one non-mando character to tag along, just let me know why they want to do that if they’re not a true believer.

That is just one branch of the Mandos that go by that rule. Hopefully this one does not. Would be nice to sit around the dinner table and chat rather than have to go eat in private so no one sees you with your hat off.

Concept and background: Pip's parents originally lived on Mandalor and supported their cause. The entire family was captured by the Empire and taken as slaves when Pip was only 10. She served an imperial officer as his personal assistant until she was freed by rebel forces. She joined the rebellion and trained as a squadron leader, and fought in several battles. But when her first tour was over, she left the rebellion to seek out her Mandalorian heritage - to reconnect with the person she was supposed to be all along.

Motivation: Expertise - Pip wants to live by the Mandalorian code and because a paragon of its virtues and values.

Obligation: Obsession (10) - Pip is completely in love with a local celebrity named Ethe Drizlul (actor, dancer, singer, holonet personality).

 

The sergeant who had shown Pip'Mandi and the other new members of the squadron to the barracks had basically abandoned them there. Some duty or desire had drawn the man away and they were left there, sitting on some bunks waiting for the rest of the rebel pilots to come back from somewhere. She couldn't exactly report in to Captain Ilgassi until he returned, so the Twi'lek just laid back in a bunk that seemed vacant to wait. Two other recruits, both Human, sat at a table nearby. One was fidgeting like he was about to ask a girl to the prom (he looked that young too), while the other was busy looking around the room in wide-eyed awe. It seemed like an overly large room for a barracks, until she realized that it was also supposed to serve as their rec room and mess hall as well - as evident by the furnishings and other gear about the room. Pip had nearly fallen asleep when a trio of men entered the room: one Sullustan and 2 Humans.

"Then Janz here pulls his the ejection seat and they go flying like a Devonian Bat," the men chuckle as they began stowing things into some lockers. Other people many in flight suits began filtering into the room as well. Their numbers quickly added up to most of the squadron, if not all of it.

The one called Janz was both near enough and loud enough for Pip to hear him amid the noise of the rest of the room. "I hear we're getting some new blood and a new commander today. I hope they can actually fly. I hear they're rushing them through basic training." He eyed the fidgety man.

Pip grinned to herself and couldn't help it. She added without moving from her reclining position, "I hear the new commander is really cute." How she suppressed her grin was some kind of miracle.

"That'd be great!" the Sullustan chimed in. "I'd must rather listen to a briefing from somebody hot than one of the usual college boys."

"ROOM! Attention!" somebody called and most everyone stopped what they were doing and stood at attention.

"At ease," a graying but solidly built Human walked into the room. He was dressed in a proper uniform and his bearing was crisp and straight - thoroughly military through and through. This had to be Captain Ilgassi. It was then that Pip realized that they hadn't given her a uniform yet. In fact, the way she was dressed, she didn't stand out in any particular way. And it was pretty clear that none of the pilots had any idea who she was - although Janz had given her a side-eye at one point. He might suspect. But she concluded that this crew liked its humor, so she decided to play a little joke.

Captain Ilgassi started in on a speech, congratulating the team on their last mission. As he started in on his introductions of the new (replacement) pilots that would be joining the squad, Pip began to slip under the covers of the bunk she was lying on - moving slowly as to not attract attention to herself. "And finally, I think it's time for you to meet your new squadron leader. She comes to us with the highest marks in her class and she's one of the finest pilots that I've ever seen." The captain began to turn around towards Pip but she wasn't fully tucked into bed.

"I hear she's really cute, sir," Janz interjected suddenly. The commander stopped and looked at the man. "And I'm kinda into that." Some of the assembled pilots began to smirk and made side-comments.

The scowl that the captain shot the hard-haired pilot could have blew a hole in a Star Destroyer. "Mister, do you think that comment was even remotely appropriate?"

"Sorry, sir," he said right away. "I meant no offense, sir. It's just a rumor."

Captain Ilgassi sighed and shook his head. "Anyway... I'd like to introduce you to Lieutenant Pip'Mandi." He turned around fully this time to where he had last seen Pip to find that she was no longer sitting where she had been - but covered by a blanket and looking like just a lump in a bed. It took him a few moments to realize what had happened. In that time, the room had erupted into laughter. After the ruckus had quieted down a bit, the captain said, "Lieutenant?" Pip threw the blanket off her hand and looked up.

"Yes, sir?" she said with a not-so-innocent smile. There were most chuckles and knee-slaps.

"Would you care to join the briefing?"

"Yes, sir!" Pip couldn't help but stretch like she'd just woken up from a long night's sleep and climbed out of the bunk.

The captain couldn't help but shake his head and try to hide his grin. He'd been had and he couldn't deny that. Finally, he made a 'settle-down' gesture with his arms. "Your new squadron commander: Pip'mandi." Several people clapped or cheered. Pip took a bow, a huge smile stricken across her face.
