Meeleeish it is. Not trying to make him super heroic, letting that be up to the dice gods just making sure he is lucky enough, survivable and FUN to play. (luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity, if it's possible to be a bit above and the opportunity presents itself - in the way of a good dice roll - then he is lucky.)

As far as gravity bow vs enhancement, I find the bigger you enhance something the bigger the loss when something happens to it. If I spend 8,000 on a bow and find later t just isn't working out, I miss out on so much more. Also, your point about loosing damage if the fight is less than 3 rounds or limiting damage due to having to cast, that is where the call comes in whether to cast or not. If you cast then you are doing d10 v d8 damage so an automatic 2 points with every hit v a d6 so only about 1point in damage when all things even out over time and at a cost of at least 6,000GP for the enhancement or 8,000 if you need to add the +1 in front of it and it isn't accounted for yet.

If this was a PvP min/max type game then that is a definite grab, but for a Heroic campaign (not super hero), I kinda like him about where he is.

THANKS for the opinion about melee and the thoughts.

Let me know if you want the 5gp for a spiked gauntlet. Bait needs to get his flank on.

LoL, looking at that for now (level 6) but if I tweak his build a little bit and bring some of the feats from level 10 up I think I can go Snap Shot at level seven then he will always threaten and not take AOO for ranged weapon in Melee.

Basically think along the lines of Legolas with his bow (although not quite that super heroic)

That works well TH, if you stick with ranged because my guy is more than able to take a frontline position.

I will allow you to add both Armour and Shield bonuses to your mask if you want (I know witches particularly struggle to get AC up)

Armour and shield bonuses can be purchased at (Bonus)^2 x 1000 gp, applying 1.5 multipliers to lesser values as you have above.
That's understandable. I don't usually do crafting, so I had a friend help me with that part. He assured me it was legal, but I can easily see why it's veto-worthy. I'll have a looksie to see what else is good.

Ranger Stuff: You can never go wrong with a Switch-Hitter. Build Str and Dex, grab a Greatsword and a high STR Composite Longbow. Go with the Archery Style for the prerequisite-free feats, then pick up Power Attack and Quick Draw (from there, you can take anything). I've seen it used to devastating effect in our TT group. As wonderful as the Rapid Shot + Many Shot + Deadly Aim combo can be, it can be defeated by some things, and few of those things also stop a power-attacking greatsword to the face. I would advise against a sniper build; they really function best as rogues, since their damage is mostly from sneak-attack. Also, while numerically inferior to most alternatives, Vital Strike is very interesting at low levels, especially if you want to avoid the volley-builds. That could work if you're really set on a ranger-sniper build, or you just want to move and shoot/stab a lot-- amusingly, this could actually make Gravity Bow worth using, since VS doubles the base damage of the weapon (4d6 [14 avg] with VS+GB compared to only 2d8 [9 avg] with only GB). The real benefit of this build is that you don't need the point-blank feats, since you get to ignore prerequisites on style feats (Improved Precise Shot).

Heh. Things could get really interesting if you pick up large-size arrows/bow (depending on what side of the discussion you fall on). This would let you benefit from Enlarge Person, Gravity Bow, and Vital Strike, putting your base bow damage at an amusing 6d6 (21 avg).

In case you can't tell, I often team-up with my group's ranger for crazy shenanigans. You haven't seen *crazy* until you've seen the Ranger riding a polymorphed Cavalier riding a Mammoth.

Ranger spells kinda suck, and are rarely worth it at lower levels (for combat, at least. They have a few nice utility spells). The first really awesome spell you get is Instant Enemy, and that's level 3. Still, if you can afford an item that let's you use it #/day, you will *not* regret it. It's also a swift action, which is a big plus.

Well, it all depends on whether or not you want to be Legolas or Aragorn... I've got lots of first-hand knowledge on how to build both styles!

Well Aragorn is definitely the Switch Hitter of the Pair. By Sniper I wasn't talking about an actual Sniper who is so specialized that that is all he could do, I was just asking for a reference point between "Point Blank Master" or "Improved Precise Shot", basically able to get up into Melee and still be able to use his Bow without opening himself up to AOO vs being able to stay off at a distance and hit enemies without taking the hit for concealment. I think with this group I am leaning towards "Point Blank Master"

As far as Vital Strike, I do not believe that can be used with either Rapid Shot or Many Shot so you reduce the number of attacks. With Rapid + Many he would be at +11/+11+7 and Dmg of (17), with Gravity Bow (25) plus all Dmg Bonuses that Strider has can be added to each dice. With Vital Strike he would be at +13/+9 and Dmg of (13) or with Gravity Bow (19) but on the Vital Strike you double the dice and then add the bonuses. So he can do about the same damage and get more of his bonuses added in without Gravity Bow as with using VS and GB. That frees him up for other spells like Instant Enemy which could allow him to regain some of that lost accuracy and add even more to his bonuses.

At Squeak, going to get the Spiked Bracers if I go "Point Blank Master"

I think he is pretty good how he is, this is not supposed to be an Epic Fantasy Game and I think it will be relying more on the players and DM for fun than the Characters themselves.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, I think it is helping all of us flush these characters out even before we jump in the first post.

Aragon is a ranger, but Legolas isn't, he's a fighter that put all of his feat slots into archery.

Arguably, he'd be even better at it if he went Ranger. :P

sorry i am running late to the party im gonna work up a character sheet tonight or tomorrow. Shouldn't take long standard monk stuff, headband of wisdom, maybe a monks robe. if anyone is wondering Lee will be focusing on being completely untouchable, and punishing anyone that tries. so i could move into flank positions if needed.

I know there is some special crafting going on in this game, anything i need to know? or just spend my money normally?

Can someone just confirm a couple of things for me?

1) How much gold are we starting with?
2) When doing our health after level 1, do we round the average up or down or neither?
3) The two talents we get, are they in addition to the racial talents that come as part of being 'insert race here'?

1) 16,000 gp Bah, forgot my own rule
2) Don't round, but only use whole hit points in play (i.e. a .5 won't help you this level, but will combine with .5 from the next level to make 1)
3) I don't know if you are confusing racial traits with the trait system. All racial traits on a characters racial page are yours by default (though there are options to switch them out using the advanced race guide options). On the other hand, Race Traits can be taken, but follow the rules of other traits, including having no more than two traits.

Starting gold is 24000gp. You get an additional 1600gp If you end up with crafting feats from some source; you can't normally take take crafting feats for this game.

HP is average after level 1.

Two traits is usual for Pathfinder, and different from racial abilities.

Edit: Ninja'd, but now I'm confused. I thought we were using 1.5 WBL (24000) as mentioned in the ad?
