Yeah, I've been meaning to run another game as well. It just hasn't come together the way I wanted.
The plan was to run one of the April fools adventures back in April, but then I worked on the starter game project instead, then my schedule got all jacked up, and now I applied for a game that was supposed to be 1-2 posts a week, but has been more like 3-5. I love it, but I'm slightly over-committed now ~_~ I have a one-shot coming to an end soon, and another game on life support, so we'll see what the future holds. Stay strong chummers!!!

I'm leaving 5e behind and getting ready to pick up the 6th Edition rules when they come out.

I'd say it's a bit premature to do that yet, but you do you, my man.

If you're offering to run, I'll gladly help with what I can Nstol. Any Shadowrun is good Shadowrun!
Bonus points for the site not breaking SR into editions! That means games of fifth and sixth go towards the goal of dethroning 3.5! Though nothing would make me happier than to see so many 5th and 6th Ed games that they had to split them into their own categories!

I am!
Not much experience, but I'm planning to run an all Decker game. It's a neglected angle I think.

It's an interesting angle. As it is I've never played an all of one thing group at all in Shadowrun, since there is a preference to cover all the individual bases for fear of death. Now if it's mostly in the matrix that'd probably be circumvented to some degree - like with an all astral projecting crew of mages.
Remains to be seen if you can make 4+ characters really unique and different from each other within one archetype though (at least a bit), as simplification is the mission in this edition (just rhymed that myself). Or are you planning to run something with a smaller group than usual? |

With mages if you have Dedicated Spellslinger / Summoner, you can kind of differentiate them apart a bit more, but that'd only cover 2/4 players, so I'm not so sure how flexible you could do it with all-deckers, either. |

Depends how complex you think the life of Decker is considering that everything is connected to it, the Matrix and you can just about "be" anywhere a human has been by travelling through the Matrix.

You'd have to make them distinguishable by personality and not by role. Having your script kiddie, with your retired military, with your corp drone, with your adrenaline junkie, will make for interesting RP even if they all have the same stats and gear.
The matrix also allows for lots of re fluffing with things like custom avatars, program effects, and wrapper programs. Matrix support has always been my jam, I just hope that sixth is kind to technos. They were Gods in fourth and nerfed slightly too much in fifth. Hopefully, they finally found the sweet spot for sixth.

A character's role, at least the role they imagined for themself, tends to match personality in my experience with Shadowrun. And there is room for some unique roles in the new edition I'm thinking.

But the players still know what kind of actions they are taking underneath it all, so I'd be very interested to see how encounters are composed. I would assume there needs to always be at least the same amount of matrix challenges as players at all times - or all the fluff goes out the window as the guy with the highest pool tries to hack thing x (because players still want to win, fluff aside). Anyway - one of the articles about the new rules for the matrix talks about how it used to be its own "minigame" and how they tried to counteract that and make it overall faster and all that. My feelings are that in 5e it could be used as its own "dungeon" much in the way meatspace or astral space is, but I would assume a simplification could possibly make it harder to use it like that (outside of just imagining and describing it as such - I'm talking rules). If I were to compose a Matrix crew in 5e - without actually being a matrix "expert" - I'd probably have one decker focused totally in attack actions, one on sleaze actions, one technomancer focusing on sprites and one more on complex forms. Not so unlike a Street Sam, a Cat Burglar, a Shaman and a Hermetic Mage - just in the Matrix. Now there will still be technomancers and deckers in sixth edition - but beyond that we will have to see. That we can all still describe things in the same ways is fine, but I guess I am in favour of having mechanical differences as well or we could all be playing a Shadowrun Fate hack. I know, again with the fate, but the new edge system just seems a bit ripped from there to me. Not that I dislike Fate, by the way, but rules also convey a feeling to me. |
