The Crunch

Rolls and Combat. This thread should handle all the mechanics. The game thread should be free of rolls. Hyperlink your rolls into the Game thread ( e.g. Tabitha jump checkjumps the gap.) if you want but you can simply describe your actions and roll here.

I would prefer to run a mapless game to leave more to the imagination but if that doesn't work (or i change my mind), combat maps will be posted here as well.

I'm in your thread, still rolling your dice...

What about dice rolls in the TT tag in the game post. I really hate having to open other windows in the middle of reading a post, or making a post.

For Example:

Joe pulled his gun and Combat action, fired his gun at the goat
Dice Gun Fire:
1d6+20 (3)+20 Total = 23
I have now idea how to roll for combat, so I just made something up. See how easy this works!
Fired at the small goat standing on the deck, it was just not the goats day.

To be honest I don't like going though multiple threads and checking them, at the same time I don't really like the TT tag since I often don't spot it and see the dice roll... then I assume the character didn't roll a check and hilarity ensures.

Normally I just put them in an OOC box...

But I'm not the GM, I don't have to check rolls and there's not so much rolling in Serenity.

Any way is fine, as long as we're sure which one we're using so we know what to look for.
You're not going to want to be checking the dice thread for a roll that's in the game thread if you get my meaning.

I don't like having ooc boxes in the game (especially as they tend to stack up) thread although i dislike having to browse a bajillion threads as well. I'm in a game where i have to roll in one thread, check the beginning of same thread for the map, ooc in yet another thread and rp in a fourth.
I think two threads is ok though. If you dislike the system you can roll and write some RP pointers in the dice thread and i'll describe the actions for you. - this system seems to speed up play although it's kind of a hassle.

The rolling should be done in the crunch thread and then, depending on the result you can write up the actions in the rp thread. Link 'em or use the tt tag with a different colour and i'll check the dice thread.

Rolls 101

This is a rolls and combat primer for all you newbs:

Rolls are combinations of two or more dice added together. They are always Attribute + Skill or Attribute + Attribute.

Example:

X tries to cook up a meal with cheap supplies: Intelligence + Artistry (cooking)
Dice Cooking:
d6 3
d10t 3 Running Total = 6



Combat rolls:

X shoots at Y with a pistol, Y tries to dodge:

Attack:
Dice Agility + Pistols:
d8 2
d12t 1 Running Total = 3


Note: From time to time other attributes might be required for shooting apart from Agility, don't put your eggs in one basket.

Defense:
Dice Agility + Dodge:
d8 2
d8t 3 Running Total = 5


Note: Same goes for defence.

Results:

If Att-Defence < 0 - Attack is a miss.

otherwise:

Att-Defence = Basic Damage

Basic Damage is:

50% W (wound) 50% S (stun)

Extra Damage From Weapons:

Dice Bullet Damage:
d6 6


For the pistol example, extra damage is W although for some weapons it could be S.

Maps.

Both decks are lit by red warning lights shedding very little light (they serve more as evac guide lights) The door to the so-called passenger door is closed and anybody trying it will find it locked. The last time it was locked was two days ago during take-off.

The container Twigz is in is open. though completely dark.

While Switch is still in his room, Stacy is in the hallway and can see the captain receiving the satchel of platinum from one of the armed men while the others load the horse into one of the shuttles. The rest of the crew dorms are open and seem to have been hastily deserted.

Edit: I messed up the Upper deck map ( it's off center) but I'm too lazy to re-do it.

Well here goes at trying to save everyone lives, I will just say sorry in advance if Stacy screws this up and we all die.

Engine Repair
Dice Mechanical Engineering - Repair:
d10 10
d12 2

Alertness and Repair (I used alertness because she is trying to "Read" the engine and in doing so she focuses all her senses on the engine to find out whats wrong with it and then repair that) Hope that makes sense.

Question.... If I have a +2 does that mean it is an additional d2? So If I was going to hack into something I would roll

(Intel - d12) + (Hacking - d12) + (Technical Engineering Bonus - d2)?

But if I wanted to try to reactivate the computer systems, since I am not trained in hardware it would be

(Intel - d12) + (Technical Engineering - d6) + (Technical Engineering Bonus - d2)?

I thought i explained it in the PM. the +2 is a +2 step bonus
that is it increases your die by two sizes. a d4 becomes a d8, a d6 a d10, a d 12 becomes a d12 +d4 and so on.

And you +2 step comptech bonus only applies to computer stuff that is stuff that has to do with programming or hacking. (lol the word filter censores hax xor)

Well that failed miserably.

Try that again since it didn't want to roll.

Dice roller error:
[dice]1d10 + 1d4 + 1d2[/dice] is a badly formed tag (please see the FAQ for help)
