APPERANCE: Old Man Garret has a weathered face marked by deep wrinkles, with thinning white hair and a scruffy beard. His piercing blue eyes reflect years of wisdom and hardship. He is a little on the heavy side and a slight hunched posture from years of working with chemicals in the vault.

PERSONALITY: Old Man Garret is resourceful and intelligent, with a deep passion for chemistry. He is pragmatic and calm under pressure but can be gruff and reclusive. Despite his tough exterior, he has a deep care for those he helps. Garret often talks to his chemicals as if they were sentient and has a habit of rubbing his temple when he's deep in thought. He is also meticulous, always double-checking his formulas and concoctions. He enjoys experimenting with new chemical formulas and reading ancient textbooks on alchemy and chemistry. In his free time, he also grows a small garden of rare herbs in the vault. Old Man Garret fears becoming irrelevant and being unable to contribute to the community he loves. He is also afraid of the outside world, having never lived outside the vault.

BRIEF HISTORY: Old Man Garret. From a young age showed an aptitude for chemistry, spending decades studying various essences and formulas to enhance the abilities of the vault's warriors. His expertise made him invaluable, helping to ensure the survival and success of many expeditions. However, as Garret aged, he became one of the oldest inhabitants of Vault 18. Due to his age, he was selected for expulsion to make room for younger serfs. Now, at 52, Garret faces the daunting prospect of leaving the only world he's ever known and stepping into the dangerous unknown, driven by a desire to find a new purpose and continue his work. His knowledge of alchemy and chemistry remains his most powerful tool, and he hopes it will aid him in surviving whatever lies ahead.

Chopper Name: Gregory aka Chopper Assigned Role: Cook Appearance: A reasonably handsome fellow, he is in his mid thirties and has an air of quiet confidence. He's 5'11" tall, lean and in shape. He has a full head of chocolate brown hair and a well kept beard. His eyes are dark brown as well. Personality: Usually a fairly energetic and friendly guy, but lately he has been struggling to find anything to be inspired about. He is very passionate about his job and loves cooking new kinds of foods. He seems to be in a creative rut lately, and the food coming from the kitchen has suffered from his decline in enthusiasm. Brief History: Due to some shady internal politics, Chopper was declined the ability to wed his love interest due to a person in authority wanting the woman for himself. Chopper was heartbroken to find that his love interest just shrugged off the issue and didn't want to fight for their relationship. Chopper has been sullen about this for weeks now, and with the selection coming up, is holding out hope he'll just get kicked to the curb and put out of his misery.

@A7ice - I can definitely foresee the warrior caste taking advantage of serfs in that way, but for breeding purposes warriors only bear children with other warriors. Aurora can definitely have that role, they will likely have made her medically sterile in some fashion though.

@O2CXt3 - I love the character concept but unfortunately for this Vault she wouldn't be able to be trained in Explosives from the beginning. Serfs greatly outnumber the warriors and training one to use explosives would put the whole Vault in jeopardy. It would be very easy to justify the rank in it once you made Level 2 outside the vault and grabbing the Tag perk if you wish using her background (she obviously would pick up a lot watching), but it wouldn't be able to be a tagged skill from day one.

@RedMoney - Chopper can definitely be his nickname, he just needs a regular name.

@Togot - He would just be Andrew, they don't get to keep surnames in the serf class.

I thought so as well, but didn't want to assume things. I imagine her as a plaything, since she is pretty.

@ grouchy question, according to the rules, the highest rank you can have for a skill at level 1 is 3. but you said they can go up to six, the max. was that intentional?

Even at the best of times, there's a perpetual scruffiness about him; a clean shave disappears within the hour and his hair and vault suit seem to muss of their own accord. Though not traditionally handsome, he's learned to project an endearing, puppy-like innocence to avoid abuse by his betters in Vault 18. Personality: Elias is a product of his environment. To him, it's not unfair or unnatural that the weak live in fear of the strong; it's simply the way of the world. He knows he's too small and weak to protect himself, so his life strategy is to make himself useful to the warriors and avoid notice the rest of the time. As such, he's developed a submissive personality that responds to conflict by cowering and conciliating, and has no long-term prospects except to make himself invaluable to those that hold his fate in their hands. History: Elias knew his best hope of survival was to make himself too useful to give up. That's why he went into medicine: he's smart enough for it, and more importantly, the warrior caste requires the best physical care to maintain their combat effectiveness. He constantly worries that he isn't doing enough, and approaches each annual meeting with sickening anxiety. The thought of being expelled terrifies him; without the warriors to protect him, he knows leaving the Vault is a death sentence. Got it - that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback. I tweaked her application to make explosives work her dream, but not something she has experience with. It will be a good character development / motivator for her

I meant in general the max at level 1 is still 3.

Something along those lines, but you could make it due to any reason you wish. Natural or medical or whatever else you can come up with.

I modified the story to emphasize that this was done without her consent, which fits perfectly with my idea of her as someone who appears soft on the outside but is quite rugged inside.

Name: Al
Assigned Role: Spiritual Advisor

Appearance: Al is a completely average man. Neither large nor small, tall or short. He was neither considered muscular or thin. Completely average in every way. However despite that fact, Al was impossible to miss. His hair, thick and brown, pulled back into a tight pony tail behind him. Pinned to the top of his head, a blue and white kippah of geometric shapes. Around his neck, a black color with a white band in the middle. Covering all of this was a mix of tie dye shirts and nature colored long floor length robes. Underneath it all, a bewildering mix of religious tattoos and symbols covering his arms and backs.

Personality: All smiles, charms, and honeyed words. He is your best friend even if he has never meet you. Hugging, shaking, and just all joy. He hands out platitudes, words of wisdom, even if you don't want them. He will cross a crowded room just to make a new friend. Every one seems to trust him.

Brief History: Al was born an average kid. He failed to be a warrior, but was a decent student. He loved history and studied the religions of the old world. He started to read all of the practices and before long, he was preaching to the people about the faiths. Some still believed after all this time, but many did not. Still, he was charming and smooth even as a teenager so despite his unwanted preaching, none ever manage to scold or rebuke him. As he became as adult, he continued preaching and tolerated by those in power. He of course supplemented his existence by selling thing. Charms, tokens, items of faith, good luck items. It didn't surprise him at all when he was picked, but that was part of the joy. More people to meet, more to talk, more to lead.
