You’re about to take on the Weird West in the most terrifying way possible…alone!
After getting lost in a blizzard you’ve come upon a logging camp on the shores of Crater Lake. Your ticket home is hidden inside an island lair across the deepest waters in the west. Crossing Crater Lake won’t be easy. The volcano sleeps, but the hungry leviathan beneath does not.

Crater Lake Chronicles is a three-part adventure pitting your Novice hero against the most savage foes Deadlands: The Weird West has to offer in a Fast! Furious! Fun! adventure.

this is my introduction to Savage worlds. deadlands is the setting. its humans only. based on how this module goes will help me decide on expanding beyond this module. 4 players is what im looking for.

This definitely looks interesting. I'm new so I would need to learn the rules. Do you want our characters built here or just looking for interest.

Interested.

Question:
Do I need the original core rulebook to play? I found Deadlands weird west. Is the main rulebook called deadlands too?

All that's needed is the savage world rule book and deadlands rule book. the edition is adventure edition. I'm not sure if there is a PDF for them. but I am working on typing it in google sheets and post here. that's the reason for no start date yet. I do not have savage worlds core. I do have deadlands core.

Ok, this sounds super interesting. I will work on a character concept.

I'm not familiar with the system, but I love the real Crater Lake and I like the idea of creepy old west stories. Here's a pitch.

ZekeName: Ezekiel "Zeke" Starr
Concept: Eccentric Naturalist

Personality: Zeke is friendly, maybe to a fault, and will enthusiastically talk about his latest field observations and show off his illustrations to anyone he can get to listen. His obsession with his semi-academic pursuits colors most of his social interactions. If he isn't talking about the local plants and critters he is probably either bored or doodling illustrations in his notebook. His usual air of distraction combined with his backwoods accent gives many the impression that he is simple minded. In fact he has a mind like a steel trap. He just doesn't generally apply it outside his areas of interest. Though not especially concerned with people-business he doesn't like to see folks unhappy and will generally at least offer a block of his special home-made pemmican to someone in need, along with an exhaustive explanation of all the plants and critters that went into it.

Appearance: Zeke is a hulking, disheveled, pale-skinned, tuber of a man, surprisingly rotund for someone who gets most of his food through foraging, fishing and trapping. His age could be anywhere from mid 20s to early 30s. His size might be intimidating if not for his affable demeanor and baby-faced awkwardness. He keeps himself poorly shaven and his mop of dirty-blond hair is raggedly cut just short enough to keep it out of his face. He wears an eclectic mix of tanned hides and whatever civilized duds he thinks to trade for on his occasional visits to a settlement. He wears a wide brimmed hat and gloves even on warm days since, despite spending most of his time outdoors, he remains quite prone to sunburn. Plus he is rather self conscious about the frostbite scars on his fingers.

Backstory: Zeke was the 3rd son in a large family of hardscrabble settlers, early to their corner of the Oregon territory. There wasn't much available to them by way of education but Zeke managed to teach himself to read from the family bible and over the years managed to scrounge up a little library in the corner of the family cabin. His parents had little patience for their son's interest in book learning, but he was big enough to do more than his share of work so they didn't generally complain. When he was old enough to set out on his own he headed directly for the nearest poor excuse for a 'big city' where he discovered two disappointing things. First, the city's library books didn't have much to say about the plants and critters that fascinated him that he didn't already know, and said plenty that he knew to be downright wrong. And second, that the librarian really didn't want to hear his comments on the matter.

It took him a few years to find his footing. A successful season of prospecting with his older brothers left him with enough cash to supply his wilderness expeditions and undertake his research. His family had been on decent terms with the local Indians and he made a point to spend more time with them and learn what he could there.

It turned out that there were people who cared about his detailed and lengthy observations on the natural world, but they mostly inhabited big universities on the East coast. Sending specimens and illustrations to his distant academic contacts is one of his main sources of revenue, though he also pans for gold and traps for furs as needed to make ends meet. In the sparsely populated wilderness where he sets up his little observation posts he is generally considered an oddity by his distant neighbors, but an inoffensive and potentially helpful one.
