Name: Kerri Greycastle
Race: Human - Variant
Class: Divine Sorcerer
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Personality Traits: I'm full of witty aphorisms and have a proverb for every occasion. Nothing can shake my optimistic attitude.
Background: Courtier
Bond: Everything I do is for the common people.
Ideal: Community. It is the duty of all civilized people to strengthen the bonds of community and the security of civilization.
Flaw: Once I pick a goal, I become obsessed with it to the detriment of everything else in my life.

Appearance: A striking woman of moderate height, with brown eyes and long brown hair. She is slight of build, but doesn't look particularly frail or sickly. She dresses in decent clothes with a fashionable air, though nothing too expensive, and favors styles that flow with her motion and provide movement and comfort. Her expression is usually pleasant and warm, with a quick smile and relaxed demeanor.

Personality: Kerri is cheerful and bright, though not generally to the point of obnoxiousness. She enjoys people and mingling with folks from all walks of life, and loves hearing a good story. She is also curious and inquisitive, and has a sense of discretion that often makes people feel that they can trust her.

On the inside, recent events have instilled a sense of sadness and loss, but she tries to keep it covered up with outward optimism. For the time being, she is content to suppress the negative feelings until it becomes more convenient and easier to deal with them.

Backstory: Kerri served as a lady-in-waiting to the Dlusker family of Baldur's Gate until misfortune befell the patriar. The family backed the wrong side in an attempt to seize power of the city and wound up disgraced and all but shunned. The patriarch's sister died of mummy rot, and her husband absconded with the majority of the family's wealth, leaving Lord Norold destitute and with considerable debt.

With the family all but in ruin, Kerri was one of several servants sent out to try to find the fled noble or some trace of the family fortune. She headed north, the direction that rumor claimed he had traveled, but before she could achieve her goal, she encountered an old woman who spoke to her of loss, of finding a part of herself, and of smoke and mirrors.

RP Sample:"Come, Kanithar, be reasonable!" Kerri chided the merchant, giving a warm smile that usually softened the resolve of even the strictest noble.

Unfortunately, Kanithar Chergoba was no mere noble. The stout Rashemi merchant folded his arms across his chest, the pouch of a belly peeking out from underneath doing nothing to diminish the aura of strength and resolve. The disdainful glare did not waver, nor did the price appear to be closer to lowering. "You dare speak of 'reasonable' to me, Kerri?" the merchant retorted, arching a thick black eyebrow. "Your family has no ground in this city anymore, Kerri. No more 'special rates' for Dluskers or their entourage."

Inwardly, Kerri sighed. Things had been tougher in all aspects since the family's fall from grace and status. Yes, they were still nobles, technically, but they were impoverished nobles, no longer favored by the other patriar families. And that meant no longer favored by the city. "But I'm not asking for the Dluskers, or their entourage, Kanithar," she replied, not letting disappointment or desperation so much as flicker across her features. "I'm asking for me, old friend." Touching his forearm would've been too obvious, so she simply leaned against a tent pole and gave the merchant a searching look. Holding out a handful of coin, she added, "It's all I have, and we need the food, Kanithar. I'm not asking you to support the Dluskers. I'm asking that you don't allow a friend...me...to starve."

Kanithar's eyes flickered down to the coin in her outstretched hand...a good sign. He held the glare for a moment longer, then his eyes shifted to the other merchants and nearby crowd. Nobody was paying too much attention; nobody else cared about the fate of the lady-in-waiting of a dying house. With a weary sigh, the dusky merchant relaxed almost imperceptibly and gave a short, curt nod.

Kerri's smile grew deeper and more genuine, gratitude shining brightly in her eyes as she handed over the coin and collected her wares. "You're a good man, Kanithar," she said with a wink as she turned away. "I don't care what everyone else says about you!" The scoff was audible even at a few feet of distance, and Kerri chuckled, making her way back to the estate. It wasn't much, but it would hopefully be enough...for now.

1) Tell me what your characters greatest achievement is. She once protected the Lord Norold's younger sister from an assassination attempt by thrusting herself between the lady and her attacker and activating her Shield spell. She then turned the lady invisible to allow her to escape, and healed the wounds she had sustained - which likely would have been fatal if not for Kerri's actions.
2) Tell me what your character’s greatest fear is. Dying the way Lord Norold's older sister did, rotting away helplessly and in agony.
3) Tell me something in your characters past that they are particularly proud of. Aside from saving the Lord Norold's sister, Kerri is particularly proud of having advanced her station, as her family was not particularly prosperous or favored. Kerri's presence at court, and her heroism in saving the heir, gained her family much status and favor, not just with the Dlusker family, but throughout Baldur's Gate.
4) Tell me something in your characters past that they are ashamed of. Kerri once had an affair with a married man. She is particularly ashamed because his wife was a friend to her, and because it turned out he was dallying with many of the other ladies at court as well.

Little Girl Lost
right-aligned image

Name: Charm
Race: Human
Class: Warlock (Fathomless)
Gender: Female
Age: 12 (Forever)

Appearance: Charm looks and acts like a 12 year old girl, at least outside of battle. She is slight, blond, and tanned from her time at sea and, of course, something of a tomboy. When battle starts, she changes. Her eyes go black, her voice gets deep and raspy, and tentacles start to attack people around her (Eldritch Blast is flavored as tentacle attacks too). She becomes actually a scary figure which is hard to do considering those around her tend to be professional warriors and spell casters.

Personality: Charm is generally sweet. She has learned that she can manipulate adults by seeming helpless and small so long as she doesn't get whiny or loud, so she does. Whether it's getting them to protect her, set up her tent, or buy her sweetmeats or bracelets each time they come to port, she's the lucky charm for her whole ship and that's how she likes it. It's a big, dark, scary world out there and she's just a little girl. She isn't interested in relationships yet, though curious about them. She isn't interested in getting rich, though she likes presents. What her strange rider is interested in is still unknown.

Backstory: Charm's mother died shortly after her birth and she was raised on her father's ship where he quickly rose from first mate at her birth to captain. She grew up there, climbing in the stays and fearless in storms, until one day the ship was running in a gale and a great whirlpool slowly sucked it down into the depths. Somehow, Charm didn't die but found herself washed up on shore, completely unharmed. This ship and all its crew, including her father, had vanished completely.

Charm's family was found, an aunt with children of her own, but it was not to be. When one of her cousins was attacked, Charm's eyes turned black and tentacles came up from the earth and beat her cousin's attacker to death. While the family was grateful, at least publicly, fear quickly overcame any familial feeling. The aunt turned her over to the good aligned temple in the nearest city and she attached herself to one of the heroes of the temple. Three years passed and Charm realized that she would never grow up. She also realized that if she had been saved, possibly her lost father had been too and so she charmed (or to be honest, possibly intimidated though not intentionally) her guardians into letting her go with adventurers to search for any possible leads.

If any of the other characters would be willing to be Charm's guardian, that would be lovely!

RP Sample: From her game threadprevious adventure:

Charm loved festivals. The people, the music, the booths, the sweets, especially the sweets, she couldn't wait.

"Anyone heard what is especially good at this festival? What are the specialties of this port? Where should we head first?

If it's as new to y'all as it is to me, let's just head for the crowds and wander around. But let's go, no reason to sit around here. The Captain has dismissed us and we've all been on this ship long enough to explore every corner and crevice. "

She took the hand of her big blue friend and tugged him forward. He was always the one who talked everything over endlessly and she wanted to go get a sweet pastry.

...

When the explosions hit, Charm ran toward the noise with all the others. With the distraction, she grabbed a handful of the candied almonds from the booth of the distracted vendor. She saw Fizzle charge ahead on Snowball and followed as quickly as she could.

Charm didn't look like a fighter, a small preteen blond girl with no weapons, but when she saw the pirates, her eyes turned black and she started speaking in a tongue and voice that didn't seem to come from a human voice.

"an’ the children shud never die, but go back to the Mother Hydra an’ Father Dagon what we all come fromAn’ gof'nn shud mgsyha'h ah'mglw'nafh, mgng bug back l' Fhalma Hydra an’ Gnaiih Fagon ahf' c' nilgh'ri hup nog onct"

(If within 120' after a 30' move), a dark rubbery tentacle appears from the ground around one of the lead pirates, and lashed at him with a cold brutal blow.

Bones - WIP
right-aligned image

Name: “Bones” (Doesn’t remember his real name)
Race: Reborn (Human)
Class: Monk (Way of Mercy 4), Level 4 feat (Magic Initiate: Druid/Goodberry, Shillelagh, Guidance)
Gender: Male
Age: 40?

Personality Traits: Bones is morally ambiguous but will explain his views in a logical manner. If I can help someone I will, but it may not be the help they wanted or expected.
Background: Acolyte
Bond: I am a follower of Zhakata. When one fixates on the Devourer, it is akin to seeing the dirty coin that nobody bothers to pick up and not seeing the gold gleaming on the other side. I picked up that coin.
Ideal: Sacrifice to gain. Take to provide. Die to live on forever whatever form that takes.
Flaw: I am not ashamed to display my devotion to my god. It often gets taken the wrong way based on negative perception.

Provide me with more detailed information on the following:

Appearance: Bones is a human of average height but very gaunt, barely more than skin and bones. Many wonder how he hasn’t starved to death. His skin is pale and eyes sunken in. His long white hair cascades down the back of his plain brown robe. His most distinguishing accessories are the horned bone mask made from the skull and sharpened femurs of some human and a small reliquary containing human finger bones. The mask and finger bones feel as though they might be from somebody he knows but can’t quite remember.

Personality:
Bones has always been calm and reserved. A wanderer always following the sound of something that only he can hear. Some consider him apathetic and detached when it comes to the suffering of others even as he is tending wounds and healing the sick. The same expressionless face never wavers even when he drains the nourishment from would be assailants. Good people sometimes do bad things. Should they be spared punishment because they are “good”? Should the bad people not be given compassion for doing something good just because they are “bad”? Finding balance is hard when compared to easily giving oneself over to their emotions which are fleeting at best.

Backstory:
Bones woke up at the bottom of a lake surrounded by hundreds of fish skeletons. One fish even tried to take a bite of him and was immediately shriveled up and dead. He wondered how he was able to not drown. In fact, the man didn’t even remember who he was. Sitting up, he touched his face to feel the bone mask it felt familiar. Looking next to him, he saw his only other possession a reliquary filled with human finger bones. Placing his hand on the reliquary caused some memories to flood back to him. He was a priest of Zhakata, the Destroyer and…Provider.

It was still unknown how he wound up there. Perhaps he washed up there from somewhere else? He emerged from the lake naked and barely more than a husk of a man. The next 100 years had him wandering lands far and wide. Most villagers were wary of him due to his faith, but he never caused any trouble. Only those who were desperate and sick chanced a meeting with him. Those who provided a sacrifice of even meager food was provided with sustenance and clean drinking water. Sickness was treated in return for shelter during treatment. Each night during his prayers to Zhakata, he heard a voice humming a lullaby to him. It was warm and comforting. It was his mother. She was calling to him from somewhere. His journey led him into a strange Mist while following the song. The song stopped as he emerged from the Mist. There was a campsite with an old woman presiding over it. Several others were arranged by a campfire. The priest contemplated the old lady’s words as he joined the others.

RP Sample:
Bones had been traveling through the swamp along with two men he had found barely alive who had been attacked by bandits. Bones had dispatched the bandits upon hearing the screams. The two men, Tarshus and Morrel, were badly injured but healed up under the priest’s care. They were leery that he was going to sacrifice them to his god but didn’t have a choice in the matter. They were two weeks away from the nearest village with only a day’s ration between the two of them. They decided to reduce the size of their meals to stretch out the food. After day three, the food was gone. They trudged on not being able to find any source of food out in swamp and everyone was starving. Tarshus had caught a lizard before it could run away. Morrel then attacked and tried to take the dead lizard from Tarshus.

The struggle resulted in both men with black eyes and busted noses. The lizard had been ripped apart in a tug of war with Morrel having the lion’s share and Tarshus only having the skinny tail. Bones had sat and watched the whole encounter impassively. Neither helping or hindering either combatant. Once the fight is over, Bones holds out his hands. ”Zhakata has been pleased with your fasting even though it was not necessarily by choice. You should be rewarded. Offer the dead creature to the Devourer and the Provider will give you all that you need.”

Morrel hissed at Bones. “Burn in the Nine Hells, zealot! I’m not giving you the first piece of food I’ve gotten my hands on in days. You just want it for yourself.” He proceeded to quickly eat the lizard scales and all. Tarshus looked pitifully down at the tail in his hands. It was placed in Bones’ left hand. ”I’ve got nothing to lose. This won’t keep me from starving to death. I pray that Zhakata accepts my offering.” The lizard tail turned to ash in his hand. The ash floated in the air and went into his reliquary where several new finger bones appeared. Bones fished a bone out of the reliquary and split it longways with a knife. Both halves were offered to Tarshus.

”Eat the marrow and be fulfilled.” Tarshus looked at the bone with apprehension but ate the marrow as instructed. His eyes grew wide with surprise. The the scrapes he acquired in the fight were healed and he felt full. Bones then touched the man’s face with his right hand causing the broken nose and black eye to heal as well. ”You were hiding magical food this whole time!? You bastard! Give me those bones now.”Morrel charged Bones in an attempt to steal his reliquary. The priest slammed his left hand into Morrel’s stomach knocking the wind out of him. ”You dare to attempt such blasphemy? You haven’t learned a thing at all have you?” Morrel screamed in pain as all the remaining nutrients in him was being drained away by the priest leaving him a dried up husk. Bones stands and walks to the east. “Come. We should exit this swamp and enter the nearby village before nightfall.” Tarshus simply nodded and followed the monk not looking back the shriveled former friend as the corpse sank into the swamp.

1) Tell me what your characters greatest achievement is.
Becoming a priest of Zhakata.
2) Tell me what your character’s greatest fear is.
Not being able to find his mother.
3) Tell me something in your characters past that they are particularly proud of.
He doesn’t remember much about his past before becoming a reborn, but he was able to make a follower of Zhakata after a grueling experience in a swamp without provisions.
4) Tell me something in your characters past that they are ashamed of.
He saved the life of an injured man on the road who then went on a killing spree taking the lives of two dozen men, women, and children in a nearby village before being taken down by the town guard.

I'll add the list of other characters I think he would gel with after reading all that have been currently submitted.

Seletina Luelana

Seletina Luelana
right-aligned image

Name: Seletina Luelana
Race: High Elf
Class: Monk (Four Elements)
Gender: Female
Age: 214
Personality Traits: Reserved, driven, disciplined, regretful

Background: Hermit

Bond: I have a mother, but I have no idea where she is. One day, I hope to see them again.

Ideal: Tradition, Respect, Sincerity, Self-Knowledge

Flaw: She keeps people at a distance for fear of loss, She hyper-focuses on her hobby of cartography to mask her pain and loneliness.

Provide me with more detailed information on the following:

Appearance: A moon elf from Elventree, a small settlement north-west of the forest of Myth Drannor, she has silvery blue skin, deep azure blue hair, and silver eyes. She is lean and athletically build, and carries herself with a casual grace and poise.

Personality: She is usually very closed off and business-oriented in her dealings with others. However, those that she comes to trust and open up to become lifelong friends, and

Backstory: The daughter of a woman who was lost to the Mists many decades ago, Seletina spent her adult years searching far and wide for her mother after her mother's mysterious disappearance. Her father dead and her brothers moved on with their lives, Seletina struggled to remain in their home for the fragments of the family that once was. A travelling ascetic and mapmaker, she is driven by the obsession of finding her lost mother. Seletina has lived the life of a nomad for many decades now, training her mind and body and lending herself out as a scout or guide to various causes while exploring the world. She trains as a monk not through a school of martial arts, but rather as an extension of her elven lineage and the connection her kind has with the natural arcane forces of the world, looking inward for the strength to accomplish her goals.

RP Sample:

This is a biography post of her mother's journey into the Mists.

Prior RPGX game

Seletina finally had a chance to step away from the caravan she was guiding, and was all the more relieved for it. The prying questions became tedious even faster than usual, and she was tired of the prying. Finding herself a good distance from them, Seletina stared quietly at the coastline from her vantage point atop a jutting cliffside. Looking down to the map she had in her hands, she let out a soft "tsk".

How utterly inaccurate this is. This portion of the coast is completely different than what is on this map.

As the caravan set up camp, cooked a meal, and the sound of drunken merriment eventually could be heard in the distance, the elven woman instead focused on her work. Hours of careful measurements and humming and hawing over the lines on her new version of the old map, Seletina managed to better map this particular stretch of coast, resulting in a roughly 3 millimeter distinction between the maps. Content she'd achieved perfection, she wandered back to the camp just in time to grab breakfast as the caravan packed up. Free of questions, free of reverie and the wandering thoughts it brought, and free of the trivial attachments that participating with humans would wrought, Seletina continued to wander, waiting patiently to find some clue of the journey her mother took.

1) Tell me what your characters greatest achievement is: For a time, it was keeping the family's tavern business running in the absence of her mother, however in later years Seletina began to turn more inward and focus on personal achievements such as her mastery of martial arts and hobby of cartography. She also considers the fact that she has left home an achievement in itself, as most of her family members would never consider such a thing.

2) Tell me what your character’s greatest fear is: That she will find that her mother left with the intention of abandoning the family.

3) Tell me something in your characters past that they are particularly proud of: She is proud of herself for finding the strength to become independent and stand up to her father's spiraling depression and selfishness that started to lead the family to ruin. She is proud of her two brothers, as well, despite their differences of opinion.

4) Tell me something in your characters past that they are ashamed of: She is ashamed that she sometimes is happy her mother vanished, because it was the catalyst that led Seletina to branch out and grow into someone new.

((Seletina's mother was an actual character I played in a Ravenloft game, and this is a chance for me to callback to that story a bit and continue the legacy. My prior character doesn't really need to be involved in the story at all, however there is a lot that can be worked into the story if it is. I can discuss that in detail privately if you're interested, just message me. As it stands though, Seletina is unaware of her mother's fate entirely and has no knowledge of the DPoD.

((Largely finished as of 9/20)

Wilhelm is now complete. I don't often play Champion Fighters, but I can't see him being much of anything else being reborn and how he is. I think it will be fun though.

Working on the PC choices but these will likely change due to applications incoming.

Catching up on a few of the questions asked....

@1Skell: Yes the characters come from the same plane of existence, which is not Ravenloft. I'm happy to keep the details as vague as possible though.

@silveroak: my intention with this was to wait until near the end of the application process before coming back with the list of picks.

@Hiruma Kohaku: 2014 only please. I don't have the 2024 version yet (and am not completely sure I will be getting it at all). EDIT: I missed your follow up question. The group will begin play with one uncommon magic item of choice that will be approved by me prior to the game start.

@Osellic: No, I don't think redemption is too vague, feel free to reach out to me via PM if you want to talk it through more.

Feel free to shout me if I've missed any questions here

I think my app is as finished as it's going to get. I want to write more of his RP sample but I get too many feelings and just can't get the words to do the feelings justice.

Josiah Banefinn
Name: Father Josiah Banefinn
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Cleric (Order Domain)
Gender: Male
Age: 40

Background: Investigator
First Case: You're told you went missing for weeks. When you were found, you had no memory of being gone. Now you search to discover what happened to you.
Personality Traits: I never accept that I’m out of my depth. It doesn’t matter if the whole world’s against me. I'll always do what | think is right.
Bond: I use my cunning mind to solve mysteries and find justice for those who've been wronged.
Ideal:Obsession I’ve lived this way for so long that I can’t imagine another way.
Flaw: I know the ends always justify the means and am quick to make sacrifices to attain my goals.

Appearance: An older pale man, with ashen skin almost as colorless as his hair. His grim countenance a permanent fixture on an otherwise unremarkable face. It is said that occasionally his grimace can turn into a twisted and humorless smile, but those that claim to witness it say it was more horrible than any bloodcurdling scream.
Personality: Josiah is a man of focus, dedicated to a set of ideals and unbreakable morals as he sets out to bring order and justice to a world gone mad. Even amongst his brethren in the church Josiah is considered a zealot, his views of Law and Order black and white with no room for compromise. In pursuit of his ideal for Order many have questioned his compassion, and if he is an evil man. But Father Banefinn cares not, for too long the people in his life have confused Order for balance, but Josiah cares little for balance, he cares little if good or evil rules the day, only that laws are followed and Order is maintained.
[/B]Backstory:[/B] Deposited upon the doorstep of a cloister of Tyr at a young age, a foundling child given the name of Josiah was raised in Tyr’s one-armed embrace. Years passed and the boy became a man, his dedication to the teachings of Tyr only strengthening as the years lent seasoning to his only considerable natural talents. His pursuit of Law and Order lead Josiah to join Tyr’s Justiciars, an elite force of law-keepers empowered by their god to bring criminals to justice and order to chaos. Having spent half his life tracking down criminals and solving crimes in Tyr’s name, Josiah has noticed the years start to creep up on him. While his mind is still sharp and his senses keen, already he has started to lose a step, falling behind physically to younger more eager Justiciars.

RP Sample:The man ran through the rundown alleyway, footsteps splashing in puddles of questionable substances as he raced heedlessly into the dark comfort of the shadows. Crouching behind a stack of crates he struggles to catch his breath, begging his frayed nerves to calm down, to steady his breathing before the loud gasps give him away.

A loud clank echos down the alley, steelshod feet moving with an inescapable inevitability, ever closer to the terrified man. ”Byron Pissan, associated with the Carmelli Crime Family, you have been accused and charged with extortion of thirteen businesses within Helm’s Hold, three counts of assault on citizens, bribery of a magistrate, and attempted murder of a City Guard. I have been authorized legal authority by the Lords of Helm’s Hold and Neverwinter to bring you to justice and await judgement by the courts. If you resist I will have no choice but to use lethal force.”

Cursing to himself, Byron peaked around the crate before slipping back to the shadows with a stronger curse. It was him, the same armored man who had been chasing him a fortnight. Every trick, every smuggler’s pass, false trail, and safe-house failing to give the Justiciar the slip. This unstoppable juggernaut who had stormed the gang’s warehouse with the city guard and slaughtered old man Carmelli and all his men who didn’t surrender or flee like Byron. Back literally against the wall the now unemployed thug eases the hand crossbow from his cloak, trying his best to stay quiet as he slides the quarrel into place. Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves Bryon lets put a yell as he rounds the crates and pulls the trigger at the now empty alley.

A creaking of metal behind him is his only warning as the deep gravelly voice of the Justiciar growls. ”Attempted murder of a Justiciar, guilty! Sentence, death!” Byron feels the wind of the hammer as it displaces the air on it’s path towards his head, followed by a feel of the crack as the hammer makes contact, and then thankfully. Nothing.
