Yeah that makes sense I guess. Dammit all. How many orcs are even still standing, everything within range has taken 16 dmg from a fire ball and 11 damage negative energy not to mention repeated lightning blast and a burning hands, the initial fireball killed many and wounded others.... How many are actually still there?
Not to mention that we cut the warlord off with darkness, the initial response to which was he was standing in a small patch of light....Can we get an actual number? Just out of curiosity so I can judge my next course of action. Last edited by Alexader; Jan 24th, 2013 at 04:23 AM. |

Also where are they dragging the body? Into the darkness?

They are dragging the body into the darkness, from which more and more of the bodyguards emerge. They can't see, but they can still hear and make their way towards you. Quite a few have already died, but they have reserves, lots of reserves.
For the area of light I assume that the deeper darknesses were dropped with some degree of overlap, mostly so I could evade overly complex math and so it won't be very thin in some places. So the area that you are in looks like the attachment. It will be something like eighty feet across.

Ooh well guys looks like we wont be getting his body, really a shame too. I am sure he has at least a str enhancing item I could clip around althazars waist |

Although, as much as I don't like it I am certain he will be back in the near future and we will simply have to kill him again.

Don't worry, I don't usually bring back enemies who were killed, it's just a matter of taste, why have PC's kill an old enemy if they can also fight plenty of new ones.

I'm confused. They were given the order to fall back, but they're being described as 'outnumbered' rather than reinforced by the soldiers behind that they're retreating to. Did they not listen? Was it timed too late? 'Cause this is sounding a lot like the plan not working the plan being a retreat to supporting numbers to draw them into a trap.

What is happening is essentially this:
1) The slaves and other useless soldiers came under attack 2) They received the order to retreat but as they were already engaged in combat this wasn't as easy as had been hoped, they started to buckle but fleeing outright was difficult. 3) More orcs arrive and some of the slaves flee, others are surrounded and cut off by the superior enemy force.

I hate to ask these things all the time, but a full retreat as a full round action without provoking a AoO would make it pretty easy to retreat....or?

Well, those things are a bit difficult, the rules really aren't fit to work in three dimensions. Most of the time we work with just making the normal squares cubes instead, so you will move up one cube which doesn't provoke AoO's, but moving away from there will provoke a set of them as these cubes are still in contact with those occupied by the orcs. Which kind of makes sense, flying away from a melee won't be the easiest of things. Obviously the orc will go for Monzoul, but seeing their limites success so far you should manage to get away safely, especially if you use some kind of distraction.

I was talking about the slave fodder, as far as using a full round action full retreat, that is the reason it is a full round action. You sacrifice all other actions to escape without AoO, that is the trade off.
The reason being is you have to devote all of your attention on evading those AoO's Last edited by Alexader; Jan 24th, 2013 at 07:32 AM. |

Also, c12 bro. You are a cleric you have that same ability with the negative energy except yours does 3d6, I am just saying bro, if we had both done it we would have probably gotten the body

No, I don't. I have the fiendish channel energy ability. Had I done what you did I would have healed us and all other evil characters.
