Character Creation Thread

Level: 4

Abilities: Pick one of these standard packages: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 or 17, 12, 12, 11, 10, 8 or 15, 13, 12, 12, 10, 10

Classes: Everything from the D20 Modern Core Rulebook is allowed. Additionally, from D20 Future: Engineer, Swindler, Tracer

Hit Points: Take maximum at all levels.

Action Points: You start with 3 action points (read more in the minor house rules below)

Occupation: Because of the house rule's changes to the way skills work, this makes the Occupations pretty difficult to work with so they're going to be slightly different. From the list of class skills you're allowed to pick from, pick one skill that isn't in a class skill group for your base class. This counts as one of your occupation's class skill picks. For every other pick, add +1 to the whole class skill group that a skill you've chosen is in.
Example: Somebody who picks Religious (bottom of page 34) as his occupation normally gets to pick three skills as his class skills. He begins with the Dedicated base class so he has Academics, Medicine, Perception, Psychoanalysis, and Street Cred as his class skill groups. Picking Knowledge(Streetwise) first he will get Street Cred as a class skill group. Picking Decipher Script and Listen as his other two picks, he will get +2 to his Perception skills class group.

Determining Wealth: Roll your wealth checks here. You can pick 5 for your starting 2d4 check but don't roll for it if you do. If you roll, you can't change your mind! You can also roll Perform for the wealth check at each level if you have ranks in it but you still count your Profession ranks.

Gear: If you have ideas of future gear that I haven't included in the house rules, please let me know and I'll think about it.

Feats: Urban Tracking from D20 Future is also available.

Minor House Rules: I hate keeping track of XP and small numbers of it left and right. I also hate not being able to reward good roleplaying. So, I will hand out levels instead. After every episode or whenever I feel like it, everyone will be getting a level. If you roleplay well I will grant you small bonuses for writing up good posts which may range from an Action Point to a free bonus feat talent (pre-reqs always applying.)

I forgot about class skills for advanced classes. Let me know which one you want to pick and I'll let you know what skill groups are class for them. As a general rule of thumb: a group is a class skill group if it has a non-Knowledge or non-Craft class skill in it from that class, e.g. Perception is likely a class skill group for your advanced class if it lists Listen as one of its class skills.

Ok, since we are with MOSA will we be supplied arms and armor, or will we have to purchase it ourselves?

You will be issued a sidearm with one magazine of ammo, a shield, and a leather jacket with the MOSA logo just below the right shoulder.
Everything else will follow the requisition rules in the book. It's going to be an important part of the game so let me know in advance when you want to use that feature.

You can buy weapons and the like if you want on your own but I wouldn't recommend it. Don't think that if you're constantly going to walk around in armor and carrying an assault rifle over your shoulder you're going to be received in a normal fashion. Same with hiding an SMG under your overly large coat, sooner or later somebody will know and is going to see it and get really agitated and file a complaint with your boss.

However, if you're about to raid a a criminal's apartment, requisitioning is your best friend.

Just as a heads-up, I'm considering a house rule for advanced classes whereby you can switch out a special ability for one from another advanced class under the condition that: A) the new ability is of the same or lower level; B) you only get one other advanced class to choose from; C) you meet the pre-reqs for that advanced class. It would still be subject to approval.

That's something for you to keep in mind, perhaps, I'll let you know tomorrow if I'm sure we'll be using it. If anything, your characters are starting at level 4 so you'll only get one level of Advanced Class if you're going for that at all. But it might affect your character planning. At least it would mean I might not get four cookie-cutter Investigators.

So can we expect a regular infusion of action points, because 3 is pretty low? Especially for those who have talents or class features that use action points.
