Major Klaus nods, “1st company! Load and prepare! Do NOT fire until I give the order!” he gestures for Gilford and Reynna to follow him to the side of the firing line. The first 50 men quickly shuffle into lines and await the figures Gilford saw. The wagon comes trundling down the road, “Hold!” the sergeant orders steadying the troops. “Halt!” Klaus challenges as the figures come within shouting distance. The group Klaus spotted are in fact a group of peasants, their faces ash smudged and two limping, “Thank Grotziel! The soldiers!” one cries, “You must help us!” a woman calls, “Bandits attacked the village!” yet another shouts.

The peasants hurriedly get off the road, Major Klaus rides up to Gilford, “The bandits must be still pillaging the village or close by but we have no horsemen to chase them down!” he exclaims. He turns in his stirrups looking over his men, most are tired from a full days march, and he points out the first ten men. “Sir Gilford, take this sorry lot and see if you can aid the village I’ll march the rest up as fast as I can. Take note of where they flee.”
