Former Empress Helena Cornaya (RIP) Soul Cleaver Name: Empress Helena Cornaya Age: 50 (RIP) Race: Human Empress of legend Helena Cornaya controls a large empire for three decades. Her sword skills unmatched, her ruthlessness feared, the empire laws are just, but judgment is merciless. She continued the legacy of her ancestors and conquered realms and territories with a mix of wars and diplomacy. Nobles and kings from all over the world pay her respect on a regular basis with gifts, songs, and poems in her honor. The great kingdoms of the empire are not in total harmony, they are kept in check by the Empress iron fist. Most nobles are discreetly playing the great game of cloak and daggers, in competition for lands, riches, and favors from the Empress. The nobles rivalry even occasionally end up in short wars to the great amusement of the Empress until she decides to restore order by lifting a finger and make a few heads rolling. One day the unthinkable happens when the great empress died in her bedroom, after her fifty years old birthday. Her enemies were numerous, and the number of suspects with a motive are countless, but none are known to have what it take to challenge such an epic warrior still in prime shape. After an investigation led by highly qualified people, there's no clue of what happened that night. The official word to the people was that the Empress couldn't be resurrected by Eryka high priestesses, wishing to enjoy her well deserved peace in heaven. The future of the empire now falls on the imperial magistrate that is empowered to act on the will of the Empress. Helena never married and only had one bastard son Theodore, spending most of her life on foreign battlefields. The empire succession always has been a great source of concern, the empress using that uncertainty to keep her nobles motivated to please her. Other family members of Helena are her father and former emperor Philippe Cornaya who retired a long time ago from the political life and her younger sister Elza Cornaya who is the Queen of Patrenia. Helena doesn't have other known siblings. The empress was a fearsome warrior, in part because of her favorite sword that she named Soul Cleaver. The ancient bastard sword is decorated with rubies and has a blade made of bronze. It's a bit heavy, but Helena always swung it as if it weight a feather. The blade was reported stolen few days after the empress death and there's a reward offered for anybody who could return it to Selarya's court. Another legendary artifact that the Empress used is fury, a lance that was offered as a gift by Valkara's king who is quick like the wind and bestows the power of thunder.

 

Empress Aurelia Cornaya Name: Empress Aurelia Cornaya Age: 22 Race: Human Occupation: Princess of Athenya; Duchess of Blackmoor, Warpriestess of Xydanyel The eldest princess of the realm, Aurelia Cornaya dedicated her life from birth to the navy and the war goddess Xydanyël. Proven to be as ambitious and cunning as her mother, Aurelia inherited her mother’s beauty along with the Queen’s ruthless inclinations. Initiated to death and fear in childhood, she witnessed many battles on the sea lead by her mother and her grandmother the empress aboard the empire flagship. Her divine gift manifested in one of those battles as she rumored to have deflected a cannonball with her powers. Aurelia spent her early life been educated at court and Patrenia's Iron Cathedral. Joining the imperial navy academy at twelves, she spent most of her last five years at sea hunting pirates, restless, waiting for the next great war. Now of late Aurelia clings to the dangerous belief that she is destined to reign supreme over the continent. It stems from the recent “visions” of Xydanyel’s High Seer, Cyrek Arthaxad, which began shortly after Empress Helena’s death. Arthaxad and his cult disciples claim that the goddess herself foretells of Aurelia’s ascension to the Rose Imperial Throne. Their support has only encouraged Aurelia’s ambition, as now her priestly devotion and zeal is only outmatched by her cunning capacity to win battles. It has been rumoured that the princess takes part in the bloody inquisitions against those who oppose Patrenia and the Empire total rule. She views followers of Eryka and other religions as weak-resolved vestiges of the Old Vanguard--useful only as meat shields in their campaigns as important wars is now fought on the sea with ships and canons, not on horses.

 

Theodore Cornaya Name: Theodore of Cornaya Mother: Empress Helena Cornaya (dead) Father: Samir Motallebzadeh (died in war) Age: 20 Theo of Cornaya was conceived in a tent in the middle of one of the numerous wars of the empress. Born out of wedlock, his existence was kept secret from the nobles as a matter of honor but also for his own protection. The empress only child would otherwise become the prime target of the enemies accumulated by the empire over the decades. Raised on farmland located on a small island in the bay of mist, he developed an interest in books and knowledge instead of swords and battles. The empress visited at best once a year and they learned to don't like each other very much. By the age of twelve, the empress decided that her niece Aurelia should be an appropriate heir and Theo was locked up in the hall of elders under Selarya and didn't saw the sun for a couple of years now. Helena visited her son one last time a few days before her death, and harsh words were exchanged. The young prince incarceration conditions were good if we forget the total isolation from the world. As many books and items he desired were provided and he has been taken care of by a squad of blind tutors, and a few unattractive deaf dwarves servants to cook and keep the place in order. Powerful guardians were deployed, and a magical gate that can only be opened by the empress holy symbol to prevent him from escaping.

Queen Elza Cornaya Name: Queen Elza Cornaya Age: 43 Race: Human Elza is the younger sister of the late empress Helena Cornaya. Daughter of the former emperor Philippe Cornaya, she is the last of his known children alive after the death of Helena. Known as the iron lady, she is one of the most important political figure of the empire and the great admiral of the imperial fleets. Most people were surprised that the Empress didn't name her sister Elza as heir of the empire in case of a premature death. The queen is an absent mother, but had her daughter Aurelia tagging along in most of her conquest of the sea, to let her see her victories first hand. The two women are usually getting along, however as Aurelia became an adult she is challenging more and more the queen about how she runs the kingdom, this lead often to young Aurelia temporary banishment from the court for long missions on the sea. Her other child Aleksey Cornaya is less ambitious and obeys the queen wishes faithfully as one of her knights.

 

King Leon Fangoria "Leo the indestructible" Name: King Leon Fangoria Age: 48 Race: Human Occupation: King of Athenya; Great General Leon, known in the realms as the indestructible knight, is born in the Duchy of Asterya. He's the cousin of Archduke Hector Valois of Asterya. His marriage with Queen Elza Cornaya was arranged by Father of Elza and Helena CornayaPhilippe Cornaya the former emperor. Leo is one the greatest hero of the empire, worshiped by the people and soldiers. He won countless hopeless battles and is known as the one who defeated with his elite guards Mariatrix the great blue dragon of Adalyr mountains. The king is a discreet man at court, Elza ruling the country on her own. It's public knowledge that the royal couple doesn't share the bedchamber for years. Their arranged marriage was one of convenience and nothing more. Not a religious man, he is not keen about the strong influence the gods have on the people. Leo challenged the nobles of Patrenia often about their little preoccupation with the well being of the people and the veteran soldiers who fought for the realm. He spends more of his free time training or with his soldiers. His relationship with his children is important for the king. He spent a significant amount of time sharing his value and training them in the art of battle while the Queen ran the kingdom. Leon daughter Aurelia is volatile and he often fights with her over profound moral disagreement because of her religion and desire for useless war and conquest. His first son Aleksey is the portrait of his father and they share a great father-son relationship. Leon is not a perfect man and has a bastard son named Zephyr Fangoria, his mother identify is kept secret but it's rumored to be his true love. Both Aurelya and the queen Elza share a deep hatred for Zephyr, who grew up as a troubled boy, often tortured and bullied by his half-sister on a daily basis.

Princess Maryadelle Valrynadya Heir to the astral throne, Princess Maryadelle has the wits and grace of her ancestors. She used to be a promising future queen and talented wizard like the astral mages of old until the death of her fiancé and parents in an explosion that took also the life of dozens of nobles. Suffering from PTSD, amnesia and social anxiety since the tragedy, the princess is rarely seen in public since a couple of years now. The council is divided, and so far her candidacy as queen was put on hold. Arkadras Son of Queen Aryelle, and Half-brother of Queen Imalynyelle. His father was an enigmatic extraplanar being from the astral plane. After the former Queen's death, he was assigned as regent of the throne until a successor a suitable ruler is chosen by the council. Powerful in the ancient art of magic, his only rival is lady Aewyn. Both have a complicated relationship of love and hatred, been lovers on and off for decades. It's hard to find a more loyal subject of the throne in the kingdom than Arkadras, who dedicated his life to serve the country and is now one of the last lines of defence to prevent the country from imploding. Council of the Ancients Duchess Jadya Lunagick A long tradition of warriors, knights, bladesingers and heroes began with Galtanas Lunagick, known as the god of war. Child of the powerful moon goddess Valaryanne, Galtanas walked the earth with the other ancients who ascended as good. His last scion is Duchess Jadya Lunagick, head of the house Lunagick. Great admiral of the royal fleet and one of the finest blades of the realm, she is powerful and influential. The duchess' personal army and fleet can rival the forces of a small kingdom. Like most Lunagick she is traditional and a strong supporter of the imperial ways from a time when the elves were dominating the continent. Racist and considering the humans and other races as inferior, she is feared by every non-elves. Still, she is not a traitor and values the royal order that keeps her family and nobles in power. However, she openly challenges the princess because of her weakness and refuses to support her ascension. Duchess Jadya is also the main nemesis of Dareth's followers, mainly composed of non-elves and antimonarchists. Image Duchess Alistaire Laeralas Having a dark history and past, the Laeralas are the descendants of the twins assassins goddesses Naellyria and Laeticia. Over the millennia the family became civil and respectable, still elvish minds remember the scourge the goddesses and their followers spread on the land before. Alistaire is a progressist and a supporter of change and reform so that the elves can adapt to the future. Religious, the duchess is well known as a dragon holy warrior of the Shandaar's church. Image Duke Lucius Askar Descendants of the god Askar, Lucius is wise and pragmatic. Discreet and not that much into politic, many people perceive him as a neutral party that get little pulled into schemes and conflicts. Not talkative, it's hard to guess what he thinks. Spending most of his time in contemplation and meditation, he is rarely seen at social events. Image Duchess Lianna Galranadia Astarian, the god of adventures, is the ancestor of the Galranadia family. Duchess Liana is the head priestess of Ludya, goddess of time. A traditionalist of the old ways, she is a supporter of the princess and her family. Rumour is that she is an oracle that sees the future and can travel in time, but Liana rarely made prophecies. Guardian of secrets and knowledge her temple is the host of probably the greatest library in existence. Yet, she rarely offers council or shares her vast understanding of the world. Image Duke Arisam Xaga The Xaga family inherited their divine grace from Luthien, the goddess of death and life. Arisam Xaga is an enemy of Arkadras and Aewyn the magister. He was defeated before by the later in a magical duel for that title. Bitter and vengeful, he is quite known for his hatred of those two. Opposing the princess and the Vystanyel family he's one of those with big ambition and frustrated that his dreams didn't become reality yet. Constantly seeking new power and knowledge, his agents are exploring the four corners of the continent seeking lost artefacts. While violent and aggressive at time, he didn't violate any laws as far the council knows. Speaking of the council, he's pretty much a lone wolf, even duchess Lunagick that is known to be a radical, doesn't want to associate with the likes of him. Image Duke Maerick Akadyel Master illusionist, Duke Maerick Akadyel is a descendant of the goddess Elenna. Known as a trickster and mysterious, somehow he's a close friend of Duchess Jadya Lunagick who is a great influence on him. Both are not in favour of supporting the current princess. Maerick doesn't share Jadya's imperialist sentiment, but he doesn't support the Valrynadya family either. He advocates for a change of the political system where the power would be shared by the council instead of having a monarch. Funny and friendly, he enjoys the social scene and is the host of many glorious events and festivities. His family is particularly rich with a vast trading network that grew since ancient times. Image Duke Zaxiel Helzias The Helzias family's divine blood originated from Alashra, the night goddess. The family mixed occasionally with their royal cousin from the southern elvish realm of Kalvalas. The family members are all dark-skinned and known for their supernatural beauty. Zaxiel is himself a hedonist, pursuing perfection. A genius sculptor and painter, his projects are mind-blowing and worshipped. Not really a political animal, he is rather detached from the struggle regarding the throne succession and the problems in the country. He causes the wrath of many councilmembers because of his indifference. Image Duchess Etna Geradias Duchess Etna is the descendant of Aldaron, the god of light. While respecting the old gods, she is not particularly religious and not a knight either, but is a competent duelist. Loyal to the crown, she is still shocked by the death of the queen who was a friend. Duchess Etna is a great diplomat and is usually representing Wyzlar in difficult negotiations with the neighbouring countries, in particular the Empire of Selarya. She is officially in charge of diplomacy in the absence of a ruler, while chancellor Arkadras focus on domestic issues. Varanyl household is a traditional house that is slowly adjusting to the new era of innovation and what humans call the great awakening. Like his father, and grandfather before him, Valtar is known as the lord of the sky, and the leader of the golden wings; a cavalry of hundreds of Griffon.
