I do the same so very often...I really should start typing up in Word...but I like being able to hit Preview after every paragraph to go over things easier.

In other news, update when I get home from work.

I was just wondering.
Is all of Soulrya a desert? Is there some plans? forests? I ask because of Emeria's 'Favored Terrain'(deserts).
What heat ranking is Karn and the surrounding area. If it is hotter then 'Hot climate' I will change Emeria's 'Locate Water' spell to 'Endure Elements'. It would be more reasonable for her to have though finding water is also important.

All barring the areas around the 4 main rivers are sandy, as described below. The further away from an open source of water you go, the more dangerous the terrain. Karn and the area around it (which is farmable, but nothing too demanding or exotic, just grains and some easy to grow fruits...along with this, some of the best areas are reserved for growing trees, but they are still very rare and expensive) requires only Heat Protection 1, easily obtainable by dressing appropriately, and drinking often (or of course being naturally tough, with the Heat Endurance feat). This is the HOT band, caused mainly by the constant glare of the sun than anything else.

Moving away from this zone, you come to sandy plains, where only the hardiest of leafy shrubs and plants can survive, but you will see a dominance of cacti and other desert plants. These areas are Heat Level 2, so if you have Heat Endurance + Something (keepcool salve, umbrella, Endure Elements etc) you'll be fine. This is the SEVERE HEAT band.

Past this the terrain is mainly desert dunes, with strong winds whipping up and down the land causing danger not just in the lack of shade, but from sandstorms and flay wind. At least Heat Level 3, very dangerous if you are unprepared. This is the EXTREME HEAT + band.

Heat Level on Soulrya is not depend on just how much sun is shining down, or lack of shade. Other environmental factors like wind, (lack of) moisture in the air, and the type of sand on which you travel (normal, black, glass etc).

For the record, something that I didn't mention anywhere else. Endure Elements grants 1 extra level of Heat Protection, rather than instantly giving you Level 2. Also, you only gain this bonus if the Heat Level of an area is Level 2 or less. This is just to prevent the abuse of a Level 1 spell, it's good for the more mundane areas, but once you're into magically hotter or more dangerous areas it loses its effectiveness.

On your question about gold. 1500g for level 6 characters is not too bad. Considering over our life we've earned up to 16,000g plus expenditures, a 1500g payday seems appropriate.

I agree with Evil on the pay. Though if we nothing happens the 200gp will be disheartening, and bare compensation for our time and stress of looking for someone to attack that doesn't. But I am certain our good DM will not let that happen.

I'll post after work. Though being and hour of so late for work is tempting...sigh. Well off to work.

With the gold question, it honestly depends on how much other treasure there is to be had. If you're giving us full treasure otherwise, it's quite a chunk. If there are going to be wandering monsters and such without any treasure, it makes sense. If we start to get out of hand, you can always stop giving it to us until we're about right.
I'll likewise be posting when I get home from work.

My DM usually has a rough idea of the time will pass (encounters&days) until we level. Then he determines which share he wants to give as a daily pay and which will be treasures... but that sound like a lot of work...

Was there an update for the heat rules? My Sandstorm says Endure Elements is heat Protection Level 3 (pg.14) not two...

additionally, at least from a sorcerers point of view, a the number Level 1 Spells is quite limited...

No I house ruled the changes, so that you guys would actually need to interact with the heat of Soulrya instead of just casting 5 of those spells per day (easily done between the lot of you)

Also, as something you don't quite know (yet), remember that this place was formed by the magical fallout of 2 great gods colliding, and possibly dieing. There are stretches of desert rich in magical fallout, and this affects the terrain around them, weaking spells such as Endure Elements.

Oh boy.... I was hoping endure elements would help me out in all my armor.
I see a roasted elf in the not too far off future hehe.

*Mental note to self... buy an umbrella and a ring of fire resistance*

Everyone seems to have base level 1, so another level isn't too hard to get. Endure Elements or some sort of protection (or staying in the shade of a caravan)
