I keep seeing all these things on the web about how clerics used as healers are being misused. I see quotes like this: "It is generally more useful to spend your time buffing your allies and crowd-controlling enemies than healing" or "Preventing damage is far more effective than healing it after it's been taken." Druids can do both of those things.
Also I guess Oracles (life) make good healers too, though I've never played one.

The min/max optimizing munchkin players hate medical clerics, but that doesn't mean it's misuse. Typically if and optimized build player says something is wrong, then I probably like it.
The healer is really at the heart of what a (good) cleric was traditionally meant to be. I don't see how filling your role can ever be misuse. Even though I will agree that hit points that were never lost are better than hit points regained, controlling was always meant to be a secondary role for clerics.

I never really understood people that build clerics that aren't actually clerics. If you want to be a melee character, build a fighter. If you want to cast spells on the enemy, become a sorcerer. If you want to do both, become a paladin. To me, a cleric that doesn't heal is like a bard that can't carry a tune. |

Also a Goodly Cleric can be VERY diverse while also being a prime healer. Like I said, since they can spontaniously convert spells to Cures, they just memorize alot of preventative/Buff/ Control spells then if someone does get facesmashed, they just dump a spell for a cure.

I agree with you all, I mostly wanted to see what the prevailing opinion is. It is true though, that when trying to follow advice a healing focused cleric is discouraged. I agree , that clerics have always been about healing and buffing, so that's what I'd build were I to build one.

Disgust, not defeat.
However, I just rolled 75% of my possible HP, so I think it's a sign from the dice gods to stick it out.

Hey Mystic.
Well I am figuring I'll get most of my feats for my channel energy ability, considering getting a crafting feat but don't want to step on Mystic's character's toes. Any requests before I commit to anything? |
