I've been rolling in the Lady Luck's House for the West Marches, but I think I'll switch to rolling in-thread.
Especially combat posts are pretty quick to write up, so posting the rolls with a "WIP" instead of flavor text seems reasonable.

And Amon, if you want an example you can view this thread (Baron is DM there too) https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthre...=182360&page=8 for examples on how people write combat posts.

I think I got it.

So I'd set up the rolls, leave the text box open, then edit the text depending on the actual rolls to add flavor?

I've seen people do a post with their character actions and dice rolls only. Without adding any details about the outcome.
others, as you said, add the details after they know the rolls.
others even freely add improvised details about the environment to supplement the RP feel.

Suppose it's mostly a matter of preference.

Also a disclaimer - if we ever come to a point where you feel like backstabbing Jools would make for a good RP moment (or it would be beneficial for your character) - go for it.

There's two things I love - reading good stories and creating new characters

Ha, we'll have to see where we go!

I'm with you though, I actually do enjoy creating characters. When I go for a walk on break (and know I want to conceptualize a character), I'll just let my mind wander until I think of an interesting trait or backstory, then mentally build on that.

All good! Also, Baron, do you handle crits by the book or do you have a variant?

Recently at an in-person session, our DM did: Roll one dice out, and the other is treated as max. Our Dragonborn hit with a longsword, so he got 1d8 to roll and the other "roll" was assumed to be an 8.

Just checking before I cross that bridge at some point.

Thanks again for all your help and work!

That is an interesting idea. It is slightly underwhelming when you roll a nat 20 (yaaaay) and then double ones on a 2d10 (naaay).
I'm up for exploring any house ruling if we ever decide to go for it.

I would be up for crit dice are the higher of average or roll, that way you still have a chance at full damage but need roll but you wouldn’t be tied to low rolls.

As a side note, I have seen this type of thing go wrong when against the PCs but as we are level 3 you can afford to take ancrit or two so it shouldn’t be too dangerous.

Improving criticals make fighters, barbarians and rogues more powerful since the casters usually have spells that are just saved based and so criticals don't apply. I really don't see a need to play with a mechanic that's not broken. Rangers/Paladins also benefit more from improving criticals than do full casters.

if you mean for rolling stats, yeah
"Ability scores: standard array (15,14,13,12,10,8) or 4d6 keep high three"
