Kestrel

As Kestrel got back with her backpack and saw Mia by the horses and heard Balwulf's suggestion of saddlebags, she proceeded without word to untie one of the horses from before the wagon. But of course they'd ride those horses instead of pulling a slow wagon! The forest had everything she would need to sustain herself and the others anyway. The marshlands was a different story, but they didn't plan staying for weeks.
She took a glance towards the captain's tent. "Come on, Horace, we need to hurry!" - she thought, almost fearing that the captain would die any minute denying them this exciting adventure.

Balwulf's questions about saddlebags was answered when the resident caravan master brought them saddlebags for their horses. Loading them up with a normal amount of supplies, the horses would be much faster now then before. With no large cart to pull, they could possibly reach the Hollows even quicker then previous thought possible. They would need to get a move on. Once Horace was ready to saddle up, the party could continue onward.

"Good man!" Balwulf says appreciatively, clapping the caravan master hard on the shoulders. Loading up the saddlebags to their fullest capacity, he gives his horse a pat and says "Almost outta here, all right?"

Mounting his horse, he adjusts his bagpipes a bit and then, with a devilish twinkle in his eye, says "Ey! How 'bout a song while we wait, eh?" He begins playing a lively tune on the bagpipes for a short time, then begins singing along with it in between breaks on the instrument. It is a crude, amusing tale of the first date between a young innocent dwarven maiden named Yorbina and a rabble rousing seasoned male dwarf named Or "Barnacle Bill the Sailor", if you're so inclined and don't offend easily...Thunderbeard the Miner.

Shall we go to the dance? ... Shall we go to the dance? ...
Shall we go to the dance? ... Said Yorbena, the fair young maiden...
WELL.... FORGET THE DANCE AND DOWN WITH YER PANTS,
SAID THUNDERBEARD THE MINER!
FORGET THE DANCE AND DOWN WITH YER PANTS,
SAID THUNDERBEAD THE MINER!

The tune then continues into Thunderbeard crudely explaining his anatomy, the act itself, and his rude response if they should have a girl from the incident. It is clear due to the laughing tone in which Balwulf sings it that it is a personal favorite of his.

Mia readied her horse now that they weren't taking the wagon and as Balwulf began singing she couldn't help but chuckle.

Trouble was, the song was so badly sung and inappropriate that it was uplifting. Failing miserably with style was what she'd call it.
She had her bow across her back once mounted and her mace in hand in case an attack from the mounted position was necessary.

She said from atop her horse, hands crossed over the saddlehorn, "That's so bad, it's actually... entertaining. Might get old if I hear it again later though."

HoraceThe large man came flying through the camp and when he got to the rest of the group there was no slowing down, Horace slung a leg over the horse in a practiced motion. "May need to save your breath for the ride ahead friend dwarf, we are not going to be having an easy time of it."

Horace Settled his bags behind him and made sure his armor and weapons were well secured while already having his horse walking forward at a gentle clip. "Soon as I get these fully secured we are going to need to move on to a lope for as long as the horse can handle it. The Captain... Well I won't mince words, the Captain is probably going to die before we get back unless we push these horses to them dying." Finally the gear was finished and he leaned forward, kicking the horse into motion and hoping those behind him headed his words.

"Finally on the move!" - After quickly fixing her share of the bags, she swung into saddle. She leaned forward whispering into her horse's ear, making it move, then she straightened her back with a fierce grin.
The sudden sound of bagpipes made her gather her eyebrows though. She listened to the song with a smirk, almost in disbelief.
- "Is that how dwarves experience love?" - she remarked somewhat disdainfully before Horace set a faster pace. - "Hyaa!" - she shouted, making her horse gallop.

As the group gallops off, Balwulf grins mischeviously at Kestrel as he pulls up next to her. "Not love, lass! A need a bit baser than that from the sounds of it, eh?" With a chuckle, he pushes the horse a bit faster, attempting to catch up to Horace next. "What say you, man?" he shouts above the din. "Do y'know what ails the Cap'n, or are ya as clueless as the others?"

Mia turns her mount and heads off with the others at their pace. She'll bring up the rear of the group unless someone wants the ranger in the front.

Onward

Onward

The party ventured on, spurned on by the captains advanced sickness. The horses they rode were rode as hard as possible, though their health was checked every hour by the resident medic. Fleeting conversations kept between the party were used for direction, check-ups and more. The rest of the ride was quite silent, with the party vigilant in their attempt to reach the Hollows as fast as they could. Soon, the road became rockier as they moved across the vast, barren steppes. The wind grew harsher, and the land become harder to tread.

The roads out here in this area were wild, and as such, were not maintained the same way others were. Because of this, it would be difficult for them to continue their travel. Finally, after over 10 hours of complete travel, the horses have had enough, and their breathing is very ragged. The speed the party was moving at was quite good, and they were making good time. Preliminary scouting by the party ranger have revealed a small clearing near the road that might be good for camping.

The party has a choice. They can camp for a few hours and then head off deeper in the evening, or continue their trek. There is no guarantee the horses will be able to handle the travel however. What is the party's decision?

Mia- Elven Ranger: Hunter

Being a Ranger, Mia knows the horses need rest, and she says as much.
"Our mounts need to rest, lest we risk injury or death to them. We should camp here. I will see if there's water nearby."

She begins to use her rope to create a lead line for their mounts as she looks around. She'll remove her mounts saddle and bit, tying it around the neck to the leadline before brushing it's coat. She'd then stack her gear and mark off a place for a fire before going to look for fresh water, unless it was clear there was no chance for it.

Though Balwulf is eager to continue on to aid the Captain, even to him it was obvious the horses were having a rough time of the travel. No sense in killin' em on the way there just to walk on back! he thinks to himself. Once Mia finds a suitable location to stop, he agrees it is a wise idea.

Dismounting his horse, he helps Mia with the horses and as she goes off to look for fresh water Balwulf checks around the edges of the clearing they are in for suitable firewood to start a fire.

Kestrel
right-aligned image
Kestrel was not one to rush a horse to death. She gets off the saddle gracefully (as graceful as one can after a whole day of riding). She tends to her horse but then what it needs most is fresh water. She quickly rummages through the supply bags and fishes a waterskin. Until Mia manages to find water she tries to ease the horses' thirst offering them water in her palms.
