So...I've got a character idea. And I got most of the work done on it, other than fine-tuning some of the backstory details. Decided to do my roll since the trauma would almost certainly impact how she grew up. Hell, a couple of them would directly tie in to ideas I already had.

And literally rolled the only incident that almost completely invalidates the character. Aphasia. On a social/support bard.

Any chance you'd allow a reroll at a penalty?

Name: Tanaar Platin
Race: Drow
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Bard (Lore) (Using Xanathar's GTE for some Find Greater Steed and Holy Weaponspells)
Family Rank: Eldest daughter of House Gardener Canary, apprenticed to Sister Wife Amethyst. Tanaar's decryption and reconstruction of spells previously believed to be the sole domain of the divine has drawn interest if not yet favor from the Matron Mother and her High Priestess.

Appearance: While fondly nicknamed 'imp' as a child Tanaar has grown to resemble an entirely different class of devil in her maturity. Tanaar's eyes glow not the typical bloody red of most drow but an alluring fuschia as the magic she wields simmers just under the surface eagerly awaiting release, and she leans in to that aesthetic with her selection of cosmetics. Her skin is a flawless dusky gray in a way only possibly through daily maintenance both magical and medicinal. Her long wavy hair, nearly black but which reveals a subtle midnight blue sheen in even the slightest light such as her faintly charmed earrings ostensibly for reading arcane script, is kept artistically messy. A crisp uniform jacket only passingly covers her usual wardrobe selections of sleeveless, skintight, and with irridescent patterned stiching to catch, reflect, and direct not just light but any wandering eyes. From the smirk dancing in her eyes and on her lips tells she's certainly aware of, and enjoying, the attention it draws her.

Background: Being an Eldest comes with certain advantages, even two steps removed from the ruling body. Tanaar was raised knowing that any reasonable request (and more than a few unreasonable ones) would be entertained, especially if it could be spun to reflect well on the house. As a young girl that was mostly clothes and playmates, but as she discovered her talents in magecraft and began to learn the precarious nature of her house's position within Menzoberranzan access to the libraries and the occasional one-on-one instruction with her favorite grand-aunt became more common.

When it came time to attend Sorcere Tanaar, and her family, believed her ready. She was intelligent and beautiful in a way that was sure to draw sycophants among both the student body and the faculty, and she had the diplomatic training to cull and cultivate that following to best effect. Unfortunately she had one unforeseen vulnerability. Her mother had instilled in her the belief that serious work had to be above petty politics. Roses do not bloom in the dark by the will of the Matron Mother alone, but by the coordinated effort of hundreds built upon the expertise of millions. And Tanaar thought that while the students would fight and feud and betray at every turn, that the magic itself was too important to sabotage. And so she never suspected the poisoned pill in the tomes on binding available in Sorcere's library.

A faintly flawed circle, a minor malicious mistranslation, and a demon pre-prepared to take advantage of the minor opening. While Tanaar survived the encounter she did not do so unscathed, as her voice was bound to the demon and lost when it was forcibly banished back to it's hell. Suddenly unable to incant Tanaar was devastated to find the vast majority of all magic torn from her grasp and she retreated from Sorcere back to her home. And while her family would have moved hell and earth to restore her studying the binding revealed that the death of the demon at any hand but her own would void it's pilfered prize, not return it. Rather than fall into despair Tanaar only grew more driven.

It took five years but she was able to break down the incantations to her most important spells into complex whistles. With her mother's blessing and her Matron's Blessing she passed through the Gate to her quarry's home, a naked blade glowing harshly in hand and the rising trill of war on her lips. When she returned three days later it was covered in blood, an infernal bird bound to her will, and laughter in her eyes and rolling forth from her throat.

After overcoming this setback she returned to Sorcere, a bit wiser and strong enough to immediately complete her final exam. With the statement made she entered into a formal apprenticeship with her grand-aunt, Amethyst Platin. More than ever Tanaar has become dedicated to the ideals of her house, as she can only imagine the heights of magic and culture that her people could have reached by now if they weren't more concerned with tearing each other down.

The Player:
(Have you played with me before?) Yes, actually. Cursed Rings, you were a super-upbeat halfling bard and I was a studious human wizard/artificer.
(What makes you want to play this game?) I've read so many of the FR drow-centric books and love the setting of Menzoberranzan, but I tend to veer away from evil campaigns. So a good-aligned drow house caught my attention.
(Stick with it?) I certainly hope so! That you've been running this for two years is a good sign. I've been on RPGX for about 10 years now, and admittedly I've had a few burnout periods in that time where I had to step away but I try to keep people apprised when it happens.
