Welcome, one and all, to the Inner Sphere.

We have a very large group, I know - I know. It was difficult for me to justify leaving even one of you off of the roster, and hey, we're sticking to canon at this point: you will operate as a Double Lance, with 4 pilots assigned to each Lance. I leave it up to you how you wish to divide yourselves in the unit.



Now we get to dive into legitimate character creation. I assume that some or probably all of you have read the Mech Creation rules, and now is the time to talk and hash those out as needed. As I've not playtested them myself, I welcome any and all input and critiques. On top of that, now is the time to mechanically create your character if you have not done so.

MAKING YOUR 'MECH: You may choose from a Light or a Medium Chassis to start with, for free. This is your personal 'Mech within the Company. Choose a Weapon Loadout, a Combat Specialization, and 2 Hardpoints worth of Mods (as in, one Mod worth 2 Hardpoints or two mods worth 1 Hardpoint each).

Further, You all start with 4 XP. You can use this to upgrade your personal character or you can spend it all to be allowed 3 Hardpoints worth of mods on your BattleMech instead of 2. Or you can pocket it. The choice is yours.




THE COMPANY: Please discuss amongst yourselves ideas for your Mercenary Company - what is the Company's name? Is it tied to others in the Sphere? What is the reputation of your Company? What is the name of your particular unit within the company and how is it viewed by the organization as a whole?

Further, you all start with your very own Union-class Dropship, which will get you around the Sphere and transport your BattleMechs into combat. Try not to lose it - it is rather valuable. The Dropship will be populated by other members of your unit: support staff, mechanics, the flight crew, etc., so you are not all by yourselves but you are considered in command of the ship and where it goes / what jobs you take.




The Crew: Cypher is big on having your Foci (and Descriptors to an extent) tie you to the adventure and eachother. Please work this out as well: who knows one another? Are you all a tight-knit unit or are there some teething problems? You don't need to use the options presented in the books, but I'd like it for RP purposes if each character had some sort of connection (good or bad) to at least two others.




I think that covers my opening spiel. Once more, welcome to the game! We're gonna have a lot of fun and earn a lot of C-Bills. As mentioned in my advertisement, my posting rate is going to be (generally) one per week, so again, you folks will have quite a bit of time to work things out with yourselves. BattleTech is, at its heart, a Space Opera, and I fully intend on playing that up, so don't be afraid or hesitant to throw in your own drama to the scenes I establish.

I've been having a weird few weeks, but I should still be able to have character creation done in a few days. I've made most of the mechanical decisions for the character already, so it's just a matter of diving into the rules for 'mechs.

Hey all and happy to be in a game with everybody, especially one that is shaping up to be so dang interesting, so gonna give a quick rundown of what I am thinking of for my character so we can start getting our schtuff figured out.

In Combat:
Mech: Thinking of Freddie's mech being lightweight/rockets/far ranged with the BAP.
Pilot: Freddie himself is going to be predominantly focused on out of combat abilities for his type abilities save for aggression which provides you with an asset on might based attack rolls for a minute so if anyone is aiming for going lasers I would pair well with them.

Out of combat: When we are dealing with potential clients or in social situations for jobs, or really in general, I will be able to do a fair bit more in relation to my type. Understanding will let me reduce the difficulty of interacting with someone or something if I study it for a bit. Fast Talk lets me convince someone to take an action the next round as long as it is reasonable. For espionage situations Spin Identity lets me take on the persona of a general member of a group. Lastly my focus tier 1 ability is Entourage which gives 5 level 1 followers that are twenty-somethings that do general things for me but don't fight, to me sounded perfect for the general workers on the dropship and have them escort me and fawn over me on planets to get me lattes and such.

One vote for the company name being "Queen" for... reasons. But yeah honestly I am down with whatever name somebody comes up with that sounds good, although before name and reputation should probably determine if we are gonna be tied to other merc companies or not. No strong feeling either way on that as there are some very cool ones we could be tied to but alternatively being entirely our own thing could be rather interesting.

Hi folks! Very excited about this game.

Kurt is not a big talker (unless you get him drunk) but he loves machines and will often be tinkering with the ground crews. That’s not meant to be as dodgy as it sounded. He would prefer to be in a fire support role, covering the asses of all of you daredevil types who just like to go running in all gung-ho. So I’ll probably go for a Medium with a mostly long range missile loadout.

I think we should let everybody decide on their Mech type and it’s loadout and then decide on the compositions of the lances, either balancing them or giving each a specialist role.

OOOCI noticed on a lot of Character Sheets that everyone didn't add the free points to their stats...You get 6 additional points to divide among your stat Pools however you wish.

Even though I like the band, being called Queen just wouldn't set right with Anders....just saying...

I think Nanna should change her Callsign to Queen, then the lance can be called 'Queenies Killers'.
Looking over the Apps, my idea for divisions are

'Touchy feely' Lance: "Queenies/Queen's Killers"
Spectre: Scout
Sarge: Direct Fire
Mercury: Ranged Support
Nanna/Queen: Lance Commander, Support

'Steely eyed killer' Lance: Trothkin, Cubs (?)
Daredevil: Scout
Archangel: Direct Fire
Swatter: Ranged Support
Mamma Bear: Lance Commander, Support

Not sure if the brother and sister want to fight together or be separated...assuming together.

Hiya everyone! Nice to meet you, and thank you to Coron for running the game!

I was originally going to have Johanna be in an artillery mech... but I could swing it to say that she wants to get up closer to keep an eye on her brother. That being said, she's still a speaker, and I've never played this system so I don't know how stats translate to vehicle combat. If it does key off of character stats she'll be dead weight up close.

From what I can see the different types of weapon are keyed off of different character stats like so;
Energy - Might
Ballistics- Speed
Missiles - Intelligence
So if you pick the appropriate loadout you should be okay.

Yep...Thanks Coron. That's quite the undertaking, you've started. I look forward to how it works out. I'm still a bit worried about Difficulty for hitting us fast movers. I know we get Defensive bonuses for having the upgraded engines. I think size of target, total distance covered and speed should have a factor as well. Right now, it looks like there is no difference targeting an Assault mech (not that we have any) that is doing an all out move and a Light mech doing the same. Bottom line, I don't want to get shot. lol.

Perhaps, I just didn't see it. Keep up the Good Work.

Sorry I'm late to the party, kids. I'm somewhat touch-and-go on the weekends for being online. (Don't worry. I practically live here during the week) I've already picked out the mechanics for Schwenke, so it'll just be the nailing everything down.....and then attempting to figure out mechs.

I'm down for changing Nanna to Queen. I mean, to be honest, I prefer the idea of other people picking callsigns anyway. If enough people think it's fitting, Katrina won't actually argue. It's not like she enjoys being referred to as anyone's grandma. XD ....which, in hindsight, is sort of why I picked it.

Gonna start reading through everything in the forum today, hopefully. Lord willin' and the creek don't rise - as they say.
