Valeran Vespith
Tiefling "Tracker" with a special skill set.

Class:
Ninja

Age:
21

Height:
5'7"

Weight:
143

Description:

Dark brown skin, so brown it looks red emphasize horned brows that adorn the majority of his head, from just above his eyes. Eyes that are like glowing orbs of amber, though no pupil or iris can be seen, as well you may think to see a reflection in this tarnished golden orb, but you will not find it. His hair is black, and falls loosely around his shoulders. Behind him hangs a long thick powerful tail, tipped with a barb like end, that looks as though is were an elven arrowhead. His clothes; simple, allowing a free range of mobility to his medium build taught with a hidden power, much like a jungle cat waiting to pounce.

Personality:

Valeran comes off as cold, but sadly he does not see the need for over enthusiastic outbursts. The young tiefling keeps to himself, and majority of the time out of sight. His mindset is different than many other peoples in the sense that nothing is pure. In his life Valeran has had no friends, only rivals, and enemies. This is probably because of his training, and his upbringing. Logic is the deciding factor in most all decisions Valeran makes, and when it isn't logic, it is instinct. To him friends are a liability, at least that's what he has been raised to believe. To say the least, the only thing Valeran has to fight for is survival, and money, neither of which require emotion, but in the long run the tiefling has nothing and no one to fight for.

Background:

Ankhapur is a large place filled with many dangers, and more than enough places to learn dark skills. After his Birth Valeran was taken from his family (with out much fight) and put into a chapel; or so was it's front. There they raised him, took him to the islands out of the River of steam, and even farther. Leaving him for dead with nothing but his "brothers, and sisters". These were to be his rivals, and his companions, but the wilds were a place of survival, and numbers would only dwindle your food supply, and bring more attention to you. After three days of being left in these wilds, all survivors were to meet at the north beach of what ever island they were on. Every time Valeran would be one of the very few. On the final test only he and a poison dusk lizard folk remained, her name was Sslissal, and they both were inducted, and set on their first real mission.

The mission was simple, they were both given a target of political intrigue in Ankhapur. After the assassination, they were to go into hiding, and live their lives using the skills they had honed, and learned. One day they would be called upon, and then the true tests would begin. Sslissal was never again seen by Valeran, and he hoped vice versa. Now Valeran takes trips to other dangerous places to hone and enhance the skills he already has. Where this takes him not many knows, but right now he is traveling, where to? Well, only he knows that.

That's the "rogue" you'll be dealing with :P though I still think T should let me use the lesser tiefling :P tht extra feat is really helpful..... along with the added sudden strike damage

Sounds very intreguing... Well, here goes nothing!

Name: Malthren Rhel.
Race: Elf.
Class: Rogue 3.
Alignment: True Neutral.

Appearance: A Wood Elf by birth, Malthren stands a little shy of 5’ 10”. This skin is typical of the race often called the Copper Elves, with a deep brownish-green complexion. His face, with wide hazel eyes, is framed by a mane of shoulder-length brown hair, cut through the middle with a diagonal streak of emerald. His leather armour is adorned with studs, with fingerless leather gloves adorning his hands and leather boots on his feet. At his side sits a finely cut curved dagger, one of the more fanciful designs that Malthren found while searching through the Marsember market stalls.
Personality: Happy-go-lucky and always cheerful, Malthren has learnt great people skills from his time working in the family shop. He is a charmer, thinking before he acts and always with a smile on his face. Despite this, when it comes to treasure and valuables, Malthren can be tricky, using his energy to confuse those who might also be seeking whatever he has his eye on through quick and constant talking. Because of this, it is very difficult to tell whether he is being genuinely nice, or looking to gain something from a situation.

Region: Cormyr.
History: Born to the fourth generation of the Rhel family to have settled in the Cormyrean city of Marsember, Malthren was one half of twins, with his brother Erel making up the other. From an early age, the brothers were separated, with Malthren travelling the trade roads of Cormyr and neighbouring regions alongside his father Peren while Erel remains at home with their mother Keyleth working in the family shop, and vice-versa. Each time one would return home, they would bring with them a new discovery from the many villages and cities they had journeyed through, and from this was born a rivalry between the siblings. As they grew and began to take more responsibility in the family shop, the rivalry between the pair grew bigger and bigger, aiming to sell more and buy better than the other. Eventually, their parents began taking their trading trips together, trusting their children to take care of the shop.

It was on one of these trips that disaster struck: while journeying through the Dragon Coast, Peren and Keyleth had received word that a newly established trade market was being established in Westgate. Eager to gather unique wares, the couple headed there. It was not long before they fell afoul of the Fire Knives. Murdered for the gold on their cart, the news soon reached the brothers at Marsember. Unsure of what to do, the pair did their best to keep the shop open before the running of a business got the better of the pair and they were forced to sell. Malthren and Erel were not built for business, not content with settling in one location with no family besides themselves.

Unemployed, the pair spent several months working wherever jobs were available, though all the time their thoughts harked back to the times they'd travelled with their father, and the discoveries they'd made along the way. As if together, an idea dawned on the two as an old rivalry rekindled within the twins. The two made a pact; to meet again, one year from that day, in Marsember and show the greatest treasures they had gathered on their journey. After that? Neither of them knew, but until then they would travel as far as needed to find something new to beat the other…

It has been two month since that day, and, while having gathered a handful of trinkets, Malthren now finds himself in the Sword Coast, having heard tales that true adventurers can find true reward here.

Game NameLands of Intrigue
Game SystemDnD 3.5e Forgotten Realms
ThemeUnlikely heroes (or villains) caught up in devious plans of intrigue and conquest!
FlavourClassic DnD Adventure
Plot SummaryWelcome to Tethyr... poor bastards!"
- Dugan 'the Arm'

It is the Year of the Risen Elfkin (1372 DR) and war has come to the Sword Coast. For two long years, the Lands of Intrigue have been at war with each other. Even now the bards sing tails of the troubles within these lands.

Northward along the Sword Coast, deep within the slums of Waterdeep, a lithe woman Bard entertains a tavern crowd as she sings the tail of the valiant King Haedrak and his courageous stand at Ithal Pass. To the south, among the crowded and exotic bazaars of Calimshan, stands a man spinning the tale of Queen Zaranda and her struggles against the vile Ogre Hoards! Even now as you read this text, far away on the distant shores of Maztika rumors are flying as the settlers wonder upon the fate of their Amnish homelands.

Indeed, word has spread far and wide that the roads of Tethyr are no place for travelers... Yet you find yourselves here. Lured in by the promise of king's ransoms and glorious adventure, you and your caravan have finally arrived in the ancient city of Zazzesspur, but just barely.

Even now as you lick your wounds and count your bounty, evil brews and deceitful plans are plotted all around you. Like so many here in the Lands of Intrigue, you are about to be caught up in the events that might shape a nation, yet you may never know it.

And so, as you kick your feet up and wet your throat with one of Dugan's frothy ales, you can't help but wonder...

"Why in the nine Hells did I ever come to these god-forsaken lands!!!"

Additional Info
This will be a classic DnD adventure designed for 4 – 5 level two characters of good to neutral alignments (Chaotic is okay but please try to steer clear of evil characters). Most classes will be considered, but a well balanced group will be essential.

Just about any book will be considered, just note which books you are using for character creation and which pages where I can find the information. FORGOTTEN REALMS CAMPAIGN SETTING IS ESSENTIAL… Do not apply with out one.

Character Background
When the story begins, your character must be located within the city ofCalimport and willing to hire on as a mercenary guard for a caravan heading north to Tethyr. Where they came from before this point (see Character Regions on page 28 of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting) and why they are willing to make the dangerous trek north is again up to you.

There are many different scenarios you can choose from to make this happen. Perhaps you are a Calimsham national born and raised in the region and looking for adventure. Perhaps you are an exiled Tethyrian looking for a chance to return to your homeland. Maybe you are a renegade rogue on the run from the Shadow Thieves (or any other organization really) and you wound up in Calimhsam by accident as you worked towards evading your pursuers. Of course, these are just a few examples off the top of my head, but in reality the possibilities are endless!

Welcome one and all to the Lands of Intrigue..

After a very long sabbatical from online gaming, mostly so I could focus on my growing family and career, I have reached a point to where I can indulge once more in my life long pursuit of happiness through dungeon delving!

Obviously this will be a reboot of a game that was once played here on RPG Crossing, but we will be starting again from the beginning. I make no promises except to say that we will be diving into a ready made campaign of high fantasy and adventure that stretches far and wide along the famed Sword Coast. So if you are a fan of this setting please feel free to dive in with an application!

Hey, TPasq! Looks like a number of old faces are returning after a long hiatus.

Mark me down as definitely interested. I can play whatever the group needs, so I may wait to put an actual application in until I get an idea of what is needed. I can roll as a frontliner (probably a warblade or crusader), arcane support (focused specialist conjurer!), divine support (cleric/crusader combo), stealth/skill monkey (rogue/swordsage combo), full support/diplomancer (dragonfire inspiration bard), or most anything in between. Background and build will be different depending on what's needed.

TPasq, what's your pleasure?

Hi Cendar,

Great to see an old name pop up, I was hoping that might happen. I'm honestly not sure how many people still play 3.5 on this site since I haven't been around in a while but I guess we will see how many applications we get.

This is a boxed set campaign from 2e that I have supplemented over the years with some of my own content as well as borrowed content form the pages of Dungeon Magazine so it will have a good mix of roleplay and combat.

I am old timer and still love 3.5. A couple of questions
1. I know its FR but if want to use a GH diety is that okay?
2. Is Dragon magazine stuff allowed?
3. Money? Equipment? Flaws and Traits?
4. Any LA? Monster races?

There's a few hanging around, and a few who have just come back. I'll see what I can do to let people know this one's open.

right on, thanks. If we don't get enough interest in 3.5 I can always run it as 5e. Truth be told I've been away from DnD for so long I've probably forgotten much of the 3.5 content anyway!

That being said I'd like to keep it at 3.5 if possible.
