@Gleeful
Is there any way I could convince you to change your city of origin to West Philadelphia?
Maybe born and raised there?

Heh, are you suggesting there might of been some gentlemen up to no good that might have been starting trouble in his neighborhood? While shooting some b-ball outside of the school perhaps?

Your tragic hook:
If only he stayed on the playground.

Lives with his rich and benign yet firm uncle.
Willing to change my character setup to be your home town homie or your Carlton.

His rich uncle sells only the most recently harvested produce to the entire city, enough that he gets called the King of Produce.

He makes you his legal heir, making you the Prince of Freshness.

While he has the option of much better cars, he travels exclusively by cab. Due to the nature of his adventures the cab rarely comes out of event smelling pleasent.

Usually arrives at battles and events significantly later then expected, often 7 or 8.

Gaining the love of his biological father is why he became a hero.

So, what do non-HCP supers do in this setting? Do they do hero stuff on their own? Are they generally villains?

As a Highschool age kid with powers what do my options look like? I'm trying to build a backstory and it's hard to say why he went to super school if i have no idea what else he would do. The Fandom Wiki only seems to cover HPC super heroes.

@Swindle: I haven't read the books myself (although I may check them out), but there's been mention of Corpies, supers who use their powers in non-combat situations like construction or transport under the employ of corporations. It seems like any job you can think of that doesn't involve direct confrontation with villains can be done by someone with an appropriate superpower.

@Panda: You mentioned the characters themselves are from earth, does this preclude summoned entities as sidekicks/companions?

It does not. I can think of at least one instance of a summoner in the source material, and nothing suggesting that they were one of a kind.

ApplicationName: Haia "Emily" Savage | Velox

Power: Velox, like her Grandmother, has Animal powers centred around the fox mutations such as her fangs, night-vision & Metamorphism. Velox has also developed powers that her Grandmother lacked which impact her senses, mobility & strength. Kitsune had the same heightened sense powers and the same raging strength that Velox did, but this is where their similarities end. Kitsune had powers that were buried in the mysticism of the Kitsune name, her powers being focused more on illusion and fire manipulation, summoning will-o-wisps, manipulating open flames and the sorts, while her illusions were focused on creating illusionary clones. Velox lacks these later powers and instead developed mobility powers.

Background: Haia or 'Emily' as she prefers to call herself, was born to a Japanese father and an American mother, her father was a physicist and her mother a mathematician. Emily was born in the Americas and her parents agreed that she adopted her mother's maiden name to help her adjust to the local culture, however, her father insisted she took her grandmother's suggested name of 'Haia'. While Emily was growing up her family would arrange trips to her Japanese grandparents - something her father claimed was to keep Emily in-touch with her Asian heritage. Emily wasn't happy about these trips, preferring to stay in New York where she had her friends and English-speaking family.

Emily's powers began to manifest when she turned 13, at first it was smaller details such as heightened senses, inhuman strength and greater agility. It was when Emily hit the age of 15 that her powers took a physical manifestation through her teeth becoming fang-like, her nails becoming claws and she developed the ability to unleash an animalistic cry. Emily's father saw these developments and took her back to Japan, where she formally inherited her grandmother's superhero identity of Kitsune. In an act of rebellion, Emily abandoned the name, instead opting for the name Velox. Emily's powers finally settled in when she turned 20, finalizing with the ability to communicate with animals and metamorph into a Fox.

Emily's circle of friends quickly shrunk in the wake of her developing mutations, some cut ties with her because of their parent's beliefs towards Supers and others couldn't keep up with her newly-developed nocturnal lifestyle. As her social life crumbled around her, Emily began to prowl the streets at night, taking any opportunity she could to use her abilities. Emily knew that what she was doing was wrong in the eyes of the law, but there was something buried deep in the back of her mind that simply didn't care, it felt right to be out here at night doing what she did rules and regulations be damned.

Velox was officially born when Emily managed to acquire a scholarship at West Private University, where she finally built up the confidence to obtain a costume of her own and finally retire her Grandmother's costume. Emily attended West Private with the cover of studying Toxicology - a subject which the young woman had developed an interest in thanks to her Mothers career.

Description: Emily stands at a height of 5ft 2inches, Emily has a pale porcelain complexion with a sharp nose in the centre of her face, positioned above her nose is a pair of dark brown eyes, bordering on black, at night her eyes shine an amber colour. Emily has her hair cut to a short, a side-braided mohawk with the none-braided sides shaved, the colour of which is a jet-black with a silver streak through both her Mohawk and braids. Emily's physique matches up with that of the Triangle/'Pear' body type and is slightly toned on the surface.

Personality: Emily has been driven to an almost nocturnal lifestyle, sleeping the day away and going out to enjoy the evening and live under the moonlight - something that is quite obvious, given how pale she is. Emily often finds herself spending time exploring the urban wilderness before her. Each night Emily ventures out into the urban jungle she finds both her personality and the animal within intertwining with every interaction, a break at a late-night coffee shop becomes a bit of playful flirting, stopping to buy a bottle of water transitions into a mischevious prank on the lonesome teller and a walk in the park becomes an evening of metamorphised people-watching.

Emily likes to pretend that her physical appearance doesn't bother her - her sharp facial features, the animal-eyes and fangs all build up into insecurity and internal conflict, both aspects of her personality wanting to socialize and be among other people but wanting to hide the deformations that give her such incredible potential. This is reflected in how she dresses, constantly wearing a trenchcoat jacket with leather gloves to hide her hands, blacked-out glasses to conceal the bestial nature of her eyes.

Emily regularly finds herself conflicted, torn between her bestial desires to indulge in natural reserves and her need to socialize. This conflict can sometimes lead to short-lived social gatherings, with Emily vanishing mid-way through. Emily tends to get along with just about everybody, though with her natural instincts she finds it hard to adjust to people who attempt to assert a social dominance over her.

Place of Study & Major: West Private University, majoring in Close Combat, minored in Subtlety and studied Toxicology as her cover-course.

Roleplay SampleIt had been a pretty eventful night for Emily, having left her random coffee shop of the night with a freshly poured cup in hand the Asian woman casually strolled down the dimly lit street as she took her first sip with a startled jump, having not taken into account how hot this drink was going to be! Emily shook her head at her own foolishness, letting the beverage cool down before she took her next sip.

A few minutes went by as Emily strolled along the evening streets, a few party-goers and clubbers passing her by and throwing out some drunken cheers - Emily cheered back, though she had no idea what was being cheered or why. A few more minutes went by as Emily found herself by a park, taking a seat on the bench she laid herself back and sighed in the moment of respite, quiet at long last... Then she notices it, an opportunity: two people sitting down at a bench together having what seemed to be a rather intimate conversation. Emily flashed a fang-filled grin as she got up from her own bench and quietly walked towards the bushes and shrubbery behind her.

A single fox emerged from where Emily had entered, its paws gently treading on the grass before claws gently rapped and tapped on the hard material of the path. The fox cautiously crept from bush to bush, closing the gap between the couple and itself, its beady eyes never leaving its goal: the purse left unguarded next to the woman. Emily felt the tip of her tail brushing against the floor in anticipation as she went in and slowly grabbed the purse in her maw, moving it just out of reach of the couple and dropping it on the floor then retreating back to where she had left her clothes. Emily emerged from the bushes once more, a few minutes after the fox had retreated back into the safety of the shrubbery. There was a little chortle from Emily once she noticed that the woman caught on to her purse being moved, that look of sheer panic and then the hit of relief when she found it mere meters away from the bench.

Summary: Fox-themed heroine with a rebellious heart and a mischevious mind, attempting to establish herself as separate from her Asian heritage and her Grandmother's name.

I haven't made an actual character sheet/stat block yet, as I'm still trying to familiarize myself with the system. If there are any discrepancies with this, I'd be more than happy to throw up a new character concept. Also I sure hope nobody thinks I'm one of those Japan/Anime obsessed people, because Mutants Below Zero is set in Post Apocalyptic Japan and this character has Japanese heritage.

<_<

*commence endless laughter*

But no seriously, if you think that's an issue you need to read mine. While the character isn't rooted in an anime, the kernal of the idea for his original power was. More specifically how poorly used their version of it was. And since it's rooted in japanese Shintoism it just made sense for him to be japanese.

Also, having read yours, I really hope we both get in because Josei might have to go hardcore mother-bear sister mode. She protec, she attac, but most importantly she know all the best places to go dancing in this city.

Name(Civilian): Wen AitoPronounced 'Eye - ah - Toe'* and JoseiPronounced 'Yo - Sigh'* of the Kitsune (aka Josey Kit)
Name(Hero): Cipher and Sonata

Power:
  • Wen - Fuin (Physics Recoding)
The Aito family are a rare instance of a familial power. All Aito supers are able to harness an array of unique energies, collectively referred to as spiritual energy by the Aito, which rewrite the equations that govern physics. Though powerful the effects by themselves rarely last more than a fraction of a second. However, when passed through painstakingly constructed formulas (fuin) similar in function to circuit boards the effects are greatly enhanced in both effect and duration. The most common applications are the creation of energy fields, extradimensional spaces, and concussive explosions. This energy can also be used to bridge the gap between earth and a series of interconnected planes inhabited by 'spirits'. While largely uniform in most aspects, some Aito have areas of particular talent or minor variations. Wen seems to have a knack known as 'printing', or placing fuin ciruits consisting entirely of energy with a touch. This requires extraordinary familiarity with the fuin to be placed and so is mostly limited to low-complexity or extensively practiced tasks.
  • Josei - Energy Mimic
Josei is a spiritual being from the Kitsune Spirit Clan, resembling a human with fox-like features. Being natural mimics she can shift her personal energy to resemble others', replicating some of their abilities albeit with reduced effectiveness and requiring some degree of direct contact or exposure. Thanks to over a decade of practice and having gone through the same training as Wen, Josei can mimic the energy needed for fuinjutsu without the need for physical contact at only a small loss in efficiency. She has similar proficiency at mimicing the common talent of her clan, an illusion power. The summoning anchor that binds her and Wen allows her to use her energy mimicry to open temporary gateways to call upon other spiritual beings, although maintaining this gateway is still a difficult task.

HCP Education: Sizemore, Tech
  • Wen - Weapons
Wen's major in the HCP was the Weapons branch, developing his customized fuin combat seals to modify his costume as well as the various offensive seals he employs through his 'printing' specialty. He took a few courses with the Focus branch to help him produce more stable energy for his seals as well as maintained his skills with Close Combat as the primary means of delivering his seals, although a few courses with the Ranged branch expanded his delivery vectors to include prepared seal tags. While he has developed a few seals that could make him a competent covert operative, his lack of natural talent or inclination kept him from more than the most basic stealth courses in Subtlety. Outside of Heroics Wen studies focused on Accounting and Economics.
  • Josei - Focus
Josei's mimicry require a great deal of self-control to replicate any ability of practical use, especially maintaining an active gateway, and so she spent most of her time perfecting those skills with the Focus branch. She shared a few Weapons and Ranged courses in her third and fourth year with Wen thanks to a set of thrown spirit vessels he developed for her, but her greatest interest was with her Subtlety courses. Psychology and Sociology courses doubled as a means to become more familiar with the human world and mindset. She shared Wen's Accounting and Economics courses but also attended several Political Science and International History classes as well.

Background: Wen Aito is descended from a line of shinto spiritualists that have existed since ancient times. Historically warding rituals and contact with spirits inhabiting our world has been their domain, far predating the modern era of supers and powered. At least if you ask them. It's uncertain if their version of events ever really happened as the only ones that could confirm or deny this are the spiritual representatives contracted to the Aito Clan, and seeing as their access to our world is dependant on the Aito Clan they have a vested interest in backing the story regardless of it's truth. Whether they predate the era of Heroes or just happen to be a family whose genetic Power stabilized faster than most, with one or two keen eyed members to quickly craft a narative for the sudden emergence, the fact is the Aito Clan's abilties certainly cannot be ignored.

Despite their small size within Japan they have the influence of a minor corporation thanks to the flexible and compounding nature of their abilty, although because their services are largely tied into their location growth has been slowing significantly. The Aito Clan (officially incorporated as Aito Divine Technologies) are practitioners of what was once considered shinto rituals, and the first publicly known Aito supers could create warding fields to keep minor nuisances out of an area and other minor feats that would become obsolete with the advance of technology. However like any science, and despite it's appearance the modern practice more resembles the computer sciences than 'magic' as it was once deemed, it has built upon it's foundations. When the current head of Aito Divine Technologies decided to embrace computer technology during his formative years to refine the process of crafting formulas the level of the entire family's abilities hit a sudden boom.

Wen is the fourth generation of Aito super to manifest their power, which has been given the term 'fuinjutsu' or 'the technique of the sealed words'. Growing up he learned the traditions of his family as well as receiving his grounding in fuinjutsu rituals and being introduced to his counterparts, the new generation of spirits, of the five clans that his family had contact with; salamander, rabbit, fox, wolf, and sparrow; he connected most strongly with the fox representative 'Josei'.

Thanks to his above average I.Q. and near-photographic memory he excelled in his studies both mundane and otherwise. Testing into a top level high school which, combined with his family's influence, would practically guarantee enrollment in a prestigious university and then a secure position in Research & Refinement with his family. And twenty ago that is exactly what would have happened. Third generation Aito initiates had only occasional contact with the spirit world, mostly in supervised lessons and occasional social visits. They also pioneered the spiritual analogue to telephone technology, and by the time of Wen's training his friends from across the veil were as easy to contact as those across town. He certainly had friends on earth but from an early age the young fox spirit Josei was easily his closest.

Josei had an endless curiosity about the human world and Wen was constantly bringing her entertainment and news from his side when he visited her realm. In particular the stories of the Superheroes enthralled the young kitsune and her human friend, and they often imagined being a crime fighting duo. There had never been an Aito superhero, those few that completed the HCP did so for greater freedom in the use of their powers for the family bussiness. But the dream never quite died out. And so when he saw his future plotted out ahead of him, boring and safe, the pair hatched a scheme. Aito wards required maintenance, meaning their customer base was severely limited by proximity to an Aito clan engineer. Their summons also had severe restrictions as the spirits could only maintain a solid form in the human realm within the confines of prepared locations, usually the clan grounds although temporary fields could be errected for them to operate within. And any branch office had to be staffed by at least two HCP-qualified members to safeguard their resources against theft.

Wen proposed an ambitious jump to a new market. America. He could study abroad, complete his HCP certification there, and operate a low-level branch. All materials for a one-man office could be kept on hand, with his HCP status he could defend himself from attack, and if it proved viable further members could be sent to establish a full branch office. Thanks to his academic performance Wen was considered a good fit and his proposal was accepted, and a month later he was attending Sherriwook High in Aurora, Illinois.

What Wen hadn't told his family was his plans for independant research. He wasn't just working towards HCP certification to establish a branch. He wanted to be a Hero. And he wanted Josei at his side. The major roadblock to that was the difficulty in setting up an area of operation for a spirit, known as a demesme. Even a temporary demesme roughly the size of a city block took half an hour to build and lasted for only a day. More permanent fields could take weeks for an equal size. Even making a single city accessible, assuming he'd be allowed to, would be the work of years if not decades. Disecting the family's contract formulas and demesne blueprints took time, but when he was done Wen was convinced he'd found a way to fuse the two into a single ritual. If he was right then he could create a demesne anchor instead of a field, binding a willing Gatekeeper spirit to him. Once summoned the demesne anchor would travel with them, sustaining the Gatekeeper and allow them to open additional gateways anywhere. Josei was immediately excited by the prospect, hungry to see the human world. During Wen's junior year he completed his project and they immediately enacted the ritual.

And it worked!

...albeit not without consequences. The fusion summoning/demesne ritual succeeded in bringing Josei to the human world, but as they left his apartment to explore and the anchor sought to follow them it bound itself to Wen, digging into the seals on his arm meant to maintain the link. There is a reason new rituals are vetted so thoroughly by Aito's R&R department, as a single missed detail can spell distruction. In this case, Wen hadn't accounted for the fact that Josei's open portal was literally tearing a hole through subspace as it attempted to move with him. And that subspace hole was now in his arm, an extremely painful experience.

Quickly realizing his mistake, and understandably in a hurry for a solution to the reality warping pain he was in, he could see only two solutions. Breaking the summoning seals would eject Josei from the human world, and with no active summon the portal would close. Problem: The portal no longer had a solid connection to her home realm, and the chances of her returning home as opposed to being torn apart in a subspace storm were practically zero. The alternative, breaking the demesne seals, would disrupt the portal itself. It would break apart, messily. Josei would be stuck in the human world, sustained on his own energy instead of a connection to her own realm, and there was no telling the damage a collapsing subspace hole would wreak.

Without a second thought Wen broke the demesne seal, fully expecting his arm to blow up along with it before he passed out from the pain. When he awoke later he found he still had both arms, thanks to some quick sealing work by Josei. It hurt, oh god did it hurt, but it was functional. However they weren't out of the woods yet. The collapsed portal had coughed up one last chunk of dimensional energy that had diffused through Wen's arm, which was being contained by Josei's seals as well as filtered to sustain her without siphoning away Wen's life energy.

The energy trapped was too chaotic to be safely removed, at least without killing one or both of them in the process, and it was keeping Josei's form stable. It would require constant maintenance, but the pair considered the end result to be a net positive. It took some legal hurdles, and an addendum to Wen's citizenship and any potential future licenses that make him liable for any issues that arrise from Josei's presence or actions, but after weeks of testing for aptitude they even managed to enroll her in school alongside him as Josie Kit, a transplant from Sweden. When they graduated they were both accepted into Sizemore Tech to complete the HCP. The pair work together to produce a few low-maintenance fuin products as a side job and to keep Wen's family back in japan happy, mostly single-use extradimensional storage units and low-yield pest repellents. But, more importantly, they're finally at the last obstacle before their dreams of being superheroes!

Civilian Description: Wen generally dresses semi-casual, favoring slacks and loose-fitting blazers. He was sometimes described as 'geeky but cute' by female students during college, with an overall thin build and soft features, jet black hair somewhat unkempt at times but kept from complete disarray. Ever since the semi-successful summoning anchor experiment that embedded a shard of subspace energy into his right arm Wen has had to wear a brace to cover the fuin seals keeping it contained, although it is easily concealed by long sleeves.

Josei, in her mortal guise 'Josie Kit', resembles an attractive young woman with vibrant flame-hued hair and large, expressive golden eyes. Often described as 'spritely' because of her slightly shorter stature and excitable nature. While she can technically take on a range of appearances she prefers to be recognized and adopts the same human form each time, merely concealing her non-human features. Her clothes generally reflect her mood at the time of transformation.

Hero Mode

Personality: Most of the time Wen is fairly friendly if not outgoingly social. While not prone to extending his social circles those friends he does have he tries to make time for, and make them feel appreciated. Unfortunately he can be a bit distractable by his work, disappearing into his head when an interesting theory occurs to him even if he was in the middle of a conversation. Every now and then some new project will capture his attention and he becomes compelled to tinker and test and refine until the idea works or explodes, whichever comes first, and this can drive him into hours or days of isolation. Josei is one of the few people that can recognize the early signs and pull him out of these spirals, having had plenty of experience with them. For Wen hero work is both a chance to test his theories in live fire scenarios as well as a sacred honor, and while he certainly is not above using untested 'but completely solid, I did the math, trust me' seals, he would never endanger a civilian to do so.

Josei is warmth personified. She has an active, if fluid, social circle and it takes little to no effort to find yourself drawn into them. While one might expect a person like that to be an absolute chatterbox Josei tends more towards prompting and listening, facilitating conversation as much as engaging in it. She is endlessly curious and immensely intuitive, and has little trouble finding her way into the core of a person who catches her attention. Many school mates would remark on how odd it is that someone as outgoing as 'Josie' could be such close friends with someone like Wen, who is more likely to be in his workshop than among other people, but she assures them that Wen 'makes his time count' more than most. Josei sees hero work as an adventure and an opportunity. She loves the human world and the people she's met, and wants to keep her new home safe.

This isn't really indicative of a single post, this scene wouldn't make a whole lot of sense without lead-up and conclusion. So you could consider this a non-combat banter post followed by two combat posts.

Location: Sizemore Tech, Weapons Department, Testing Field (First Years).

<< I still say this is bull. >>
<< We've been through this, YokiNickname conjugation of Josei and Kitsune*. No weapon to practice with means no admittance to the weapons department, which means no sharing all of our classes. >>
<< I do so have a weapon! What about those throwy feather things? I could totally practice with those! >>
<< You showed zero aptitude with them in the admissions test. >>
<< Well then clearly I need to be in that class practicing, duh! >>
<< I really wish I could roll my eyes through the link, just know that I'm rolling them at you right now. >>
<< Your sarcasm is noted. >>
<< Good. But they can't just open the class to anyone with a techie friend and a few hours to kill, or they'd have to double the field space. It's power-based weaponry, self-made weaponry, or bare minimum reliably maintained weaponry. And the latter two come with prior proficiency requirements. Now if you wanted to practice with them after class to qualify next semester... >>
<< Fine, fine. I'll stoop to your silly human logic of 'knowing how to use a weapon before learning how to use a weapon'. >>
<< Your benevolence truly knows no bounds, Yoki-hime. >>
<< Are you sure you can't roll your eyes through the link? Because I swear I can hear them. >>

"Aito, stop daydreaming over there! We're up!"

<< Gotta go, Jackson's getting impatient. >>
<< Break a leg. Or at least a couple ribs. >>

"Coming, coming." Wen called out, grabbing the vest with his latest prototype combat seals and hustling out to the open ground. It was a sparring day, a cooperative course with the Close Combat branch, and those always yielded the best data on what he still needed to work on, both with his own abilities and the seals. But needing a qualified medic on hand for every match made things a bit slow so he'd taken to using a comm seal to chat with Josei while he waited.

"About time. Can't go an hour without reporting in to your girlfriend?"

Especially when the other on-decks were far from pleasant conversation. Thomas Jackson, all-american pretty boy, and the bane of his existence since he had (unsuccessfully) hit on Josei. Apparently he'd taken the rejection personally and decided that Wen, already not his greatest fan, had something to do with it. Most of the time it didn't matter, he didn't share many classes with the gravity manipulator. There was Business and Economics 101, where he didn't want to look like a tool in front of Josei, and Weapons. Unfortunately he was making efficient use of his limited time. He wasn't sure how the guy had arranged to be paired off against him so often in sparring but Wen was certainly getting a lot of practice against that giant hammer.

"Now why'd you have to go and say something like that? Now if I don't hurt you, she will hurt me."
"Pff, like your little pops have ever done more than stung."

"If you two are done?" the medic/referee interrupted, looking bored. "I have your power records and the specs on your gear. Use anything not on my list and I end the fight and you spend the week on disciplinary leave."

"Understood."
"Sure thing!"

"Then begin."

As soon as the word was given Wen jumped back a few feet, expecting a charge like was so often the case. Instead Thomas was concentrating, and he could his body and clothes getting heavier. 'Okay, I may have touched a nerve. Looks like he wants to lock me down, make this embarrassing AND deny me any useful info on my new toy.'

Still, he knew that he could only turn the local gravity up so high without hindering himself, too. At the start of the year, before mandatory HCP physical conditioning, this might have been an endgame move with the difference in strength between him and the lifelong jock. Now the difference was significant, but not overpowering. Placing a hand on the ground to stabilize himself he put down a piece of paper and covertly covered it in dirt. When he saw the charge he'd expected earlier coming, slightly slowed by the gravity boost, he activated the seals in his gym shoes and teleported to the other side of the practice field about the same distance he'd started, once more dropping his arm to the ground.

"Well that's a fancy trick."
"Well, some of us learn from our failures."

If Wen had been expecting a witty comeback, and he hadn't, it wasn't for gravity to double down again. 'Oh yeah, definitely touching some nerves' This time the arm propping him up from the ground wasn't just for show. Two more teleports and two more pieces of paper later and he was practically laying down on the ground face first, barely keeping his head up to watch his grinning opponent.

"You're lookin' kinda tuckered out there, Aito. You do know this is a weapons class, right? Doesn't do either of us much good if you just jump around and neither of us gets to try out our toys." He playfully tapped his hammer into his free hand, it's own local gravity negated as it would likely weigh almost a ton in the current field.
"Who said...I wasn't...using...a weapon?"

Wen placed one final piece of paper down in front of him, this time in clear view. He saw Thomas's eyes glance to either side and notice the mostly obscured papers in each of the locations he'd jumped to before.

"Wha-"

Before the word was fully out Wen's hand slapped down on the seal in front of him and shoved as much energy into it as he could without causing it to explode, which quickly leaped to the other four seals. With the perimeter established the energy latched onto the only target inside of it, Thomas. The effect was immediate and he felt gravity return to normal as the young man's face froze on that half-formed word.

"Well then, let's call that a tentative success."

He could already see Thomas's face slowly moving as he began to regain sensation in his body, so he knew it definitely needed some work. But it wasn't meant to be a knockout move. No, he'd been trying to test out a much better seal for a month now and Jackson's gravity fields had been making it impossible to move fast enough for a live-fire testing. 'Though I suppose that means it's just not right for live-fire use, at least without this little workaround.'

And so Wen walked up to his temporarily restrained opponent and placed one final piece of paper on his forehead, lay his hand over it, and carefully activated it.

"Wen Aito wins." came the refs call as Thomas's completely inert body wobbled backwards and hit the ground.

<< Wow, I can practically taste the smug satisfaction. >>
<< Hush, gotta enjoy this while it lasts. I have a feeling I'm going to be learning economics at four times gravity for a while, at least until I can figure out how to put this seal on his seat without him noticing or leaving evidence. >>
