Since most classes can use firearms in this game, I kind of like the unique class Homebrew presented here: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Gunslinger_(5e_Class) It also would leave a little more room for more than one Gunslinger character without toe stepping due to the sub archetype variety.

It seems to give more options to a gun specialist without being unbalanced IMHO and keeps the flavor of Mercer's wisdom/grit gunslinger. I think the special ammunition works well with the idea of Mana in Waevera as well. Just my tuppence.

That said, the Mercer fighter archetype is definitely playable and I can make that work! Mercer's gun list is also very steam punky.

I notice that human and elvish society is a lot more integrated in this setting than in, for example, the Forgotten Realms. Is there still a stigma against half-elves or are they more readily accepted?

PENDING COMPLETION
Application - Half-elf Rogue/Bard
right-aligned image
Name: Shae Silminster
Race: Half-elf
Age: 46
Class: Rogue 1/Bard 2
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Appearance: Delicate features, sparkling blue eyes and chestnut hair are a striking combination, and Shae has earned more than a few admirers from her looks alone. But more often people will cite her warm smile or approachable demeanour as being the thing which made them fall in love with her.
She pays careful attention to her clothes, always dressing up or down appropriate to the occasion, which does mean she has to pack more than she would like when she travels. Her own preference is for soft, dark fabrics and a comfortable cut.
Background: Faction Agent
Personality Traits: Nothing can shake my optimistic attitude.
I don't let people get close to me. When it looks like that is what they want, I cut and run.
Ideal: Witty: Brains are better than brawn. I rely on my wits and respect others who do the same. (Any)
Bond: Somewhere out there, I have a child who doesn't know me. I'm making the world better for them.
Flaw: Despite my best efforts, I am unreliable to my friends.
Personality: Shae always has a kind or encouraging word for any of her friends. She is loyal, supportive and caring. Her sense of humour tends to be a bit ribald, but she can tone it down in unfamiliar company. On the flip side, she can hold a grudge and is never afraid to let rip with a keenly observed insult when she feels it is justified. Even worse, she doesn't let anyone get close to her, she has an extensive collection of acquaintances but exactly zero close friends.
Backstory:

Character Role: I see Shae as being a somewhat unusual member of the Izzet League. Most members are inventors of one sort or another, whereas Shae is a salesperson. She acts as the face for inventors who aren’t quite so comfortable trying to sell their inventions to the public.

Expressing interest. I'd be wanting to play a character based on my playing a steampunk game named Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. He was a half-ogre named Victor Halensborough. I was feeling extra edgy that day (Drizzt levels of edge), so I chose the poorest class choice for him, a wizard

Not sure what a half-ogre would be in D&D terms, so maybe a Goliath reskin?

@Superstrength79- I could see a reskin of Goliath or Loxodon? Interesting in both choices of race and class... For this setting,he'd be unique for sure but not absurd. In my mind, Mana is not only infuse-able with the mechanical but also science. It wouldn't be out of the norm for a mad scientist type of figure to have done some crossbreeding research, or perhaps he would of been transformed somehow..(just throwing out any possibility really.) Im interested to see his backstory for sure lol.

@Lazer- I would say, that in this setting, the crossing of humanoid species is common actually. Though typically, your more common half races would be Half-Elf, Half Orc, Half Hafling. There are , over 30 "States" and 300+ cities/towns/villages on the known map and the Half Elves and "Dark" Elves are quite common communities. I would put "Dark" elves closer in the category of socially stigmatized outside of their respected communities , while half or wood elves are not.

@UngainlyFool- I'll take a good read on the link today and definitely consider it. The gun styles I have reflavored actually already, however, the mechanics on some of them are questionable. I may adapt gun styles across multiple homebrews in that regard. Thanks for the information and I'll let you know what I think a bit later this evening.

Update: Artificer and Gunslinger links are added in the interest thread now.
UA and Some Homebrew accepted (If there's something you'd like to use, please send me the link and I'll consider it).
Gunslinger we'll be using Gunslinger-homebrew- for the wider range of subclass.
Artificer- We'll be using True Artificer(5e) True Artificer

Loxodon would be interesting. I think the serenity would be fitting since the wiki for half-ogre (from the game I played) says that a half-ogre is very patient and good with children.

Not sure what to do about the Trunk feature though... this is a PG-13 game, right? LOL

What about this Home Brew from the DNDBeyond site?

https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters.../294-half-ogre

EDIT: The "Tough Skin" racial didn't specify how often it could be used, but how about a number of times = CON bonus, per long rest?

Im good with it. Charge= Con bonus up to 4 times per long rest. ( I found another version that lists 5, which I think is too high). Or if you want to reskin a Loxodon, Im good with that too. It's your baby. Here's the link I used Half Ogre

Placeholder for very excited interest!

Character Submission
right-aligned image

WIP or PENDING COMPLETION

Name: Rook Blackchurch
Race(subrace): V. Human
Class(subclass): Artificer (Wandslinger)
Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Appearance: Reaching a height of more than six feet, Rook towers over the average man. Add this to his soldier-like cropped hair and intense, piercing grey eyes, and three distinct scars running down the length of his face, and one would be facing a rather intimidating figure. Rook's rough-cut features, dark skin, and surly demeanor do nothing to improve that image, either. Despite his overwhelming presence, he doesn't look particularly strong, though Rook possesses athletic speed and hardiness. There is something odd in his confident swagger, however; he carries no discernable weapon on his person, only an ancient metal pistol. It might have been useful once, but surely not in its present state.

Rook is used to travelling alone, so he packs all his meager belongings on a small pack slung around one shoulder. His protection from the elements are simple fare; a aka cowboy hatwide-brimmed hat belonging to a long-dead age, and a red kerchief that he uses to mask himself from the dust of the road. Rook sports a long duster overcoat and scale armor underneath. He wears travel-worn trousers and a pair of sturdy boots on his feet.

Personality: Rook idolizes his father. Brenin was a man who embodied everything Rook wanted to be: intelligent, resolute, self-sacrificial, and strong; both in body and heart. This was quite understandable, since Rook grew up basically without a mother, and Brenin was the most influential person in his life. Recent events have only strengthened Rook's determination to follow his father's footsteps in ensuring the destruction of the Cult of Rakdos.

Rook realizes however that although everything he desires to accomplish is so that his father would be proud of him, the young man is becoming increasingly aware that he is definitely not his father. Though perhaps his intellect came from Brenin, Rook does not have a way with words nor with people as his father did; Brenin always drew followers. Many in the League continue to speak highly of him, despite the incident in the Pyrology Laboratory.

Having spent most of his growing years in the confines of the Laboratories, Rook does not really know how to interact with people outside the Izzet League. The League was mostly composed of scientists, inventors, geniuses, and the occasional combination of all three. There were a number of humans in the League, and the Pyrology department had a number of them as well. Rook was exposed to goblins and their fidgety ways; he got along well enough with them, but most were concerned primarily to talk about theories, their inventions, and other pursuits. Vedalken were even worse; from Rook's perspective, they treated everyone else as mere instruments; cogs in a giant machine that when no longer fulfilling their original purpose, lost all worth.

Living among the people of Waevera was a different story. Common people were more concerned about how to get to the next day without starving to death. Their concerns were more "mundane", and this was something that Rook found to not have in common with them. For him, his life was solely for the pursuit of his goal: revenge. Everything else paled in comparison to that.

Hey friends,
Just a quick hello, I've been sick the last 24 hours or so and I'm playing catch up to the PM's and updating the last few things with this setting in the thread. Really just inserting three more of the starting location statistics. Just wanted to also say that the applications are really shaping up nicely. Im pretty excited how each one of you are developing.. Also, if you don't want to use a starting location listed, you can also use a small village somewhere else in ScarlaNoa. (any made up name is fine and I will work whatever you can think of in terms of a small village setting.)
Another update to the Artificer... I think I have one more subclass that was brought to my attention that would really fit in well with the TrueArtificer I linked. More on that tomorrow though.
Any questions please let me know. = D Thank you for your interest in the game, I am really looking forward to our RP sessions !

Meredith

Ok. Updates finished. Finalized the starting location information as intended. (Finally)
Sorry that took longer then it should have. I changed a few things around at the posting of the AD, and decided to take a different route then intended. The Starting locations are just guides to give you an idea of the what is known in Scarla Noa. It's meant to be vague. If there's a particular question just ask me and I'll provide you any details that would be relevant to your character.
=D

Lookin' good!

Hey, regarding our inventions, if you are not a spell casting class, do you just work with one to develop a mana invention, or is this more of an idea summit than a prototype convention?

p.s. the last unicorn?!? Tragic!

Oh I love me some Last Unicorn... I grew up on the movie LoL. I bought the DVD when it first came out to DVD and now my kids watch it as much as I did when I was their age >.< All my game soundtracks have the theme song somewhere in the campaign. Lol. Im a sap.
Anyhow !
You can work with one, you can steal one and claim it was yours, you can build it regardless of class... Up to you on what you wanna do there. Fake it till you make it if you want to lol.

I looked at the normal, Ogre creature and I didn't even see special abilities for them. Weird that a PC version would have an ability. I like the idea of being Large though.

I'm leaning toward Eldritch Knight since they can do both magic and weapons, it would have the same vibe as the game that inspired me wanting to play this character. Would it be possible to use some type of gun weapon as a normal fighter? Just re-skin a longbow as a bonded weapon?

I am allowing with this game, all classes (Except Druids) to be able to use Guns. A Fighter would most certainly be proficient with firearms to start. The table I am using however, is being tweaked right now so I can't show it to you yet. Sidearms would include, Pistol, Revolver, Sawed Off Shotgun Longarms, Rifle, Standard Shotgun, Hunting Rifle, Musket, Hand Cannon to name a few. I apologize for not having the table ready, as the table I had planned on using was a bit flawed after being reviewed. I should have a solid grasp in the next few days of gun types and their properties for you to choose from. So, for guns, we're using guns. Not re-skinning.
