Pacho"Fred Named me" Pacho says in a butchery Darakyan drowned in a an almost an unintelligible drawl from god knows where.

"They can ask Fred all the question they like, the conversation will long, painfully, dull, and awkwardly cryptic. " Pacho said returning to his normal tone, his dimples grinning softly at his creation. Make believe was a childish game he would never get bored of playing.

"Perhaps the pirates still breathing above could be of some use. We could test our disguises and what would be better cover than us providing aid to their wounded when pirates arrive in the morning? " Pacho said as he looked in the direction of the stairs.

Rana"I don't speak Darakyan." Rana says as she moves over to Sayyida's side to assist in her chest-binding and accentuation of a more manly or boyish facade. She smiles to herself, "A disgraced Selaryan noble that still calls themselves 'lord'..."

As the other three were discussing things, she was rising back up the stairwell to return to the junkpile room that she went through the magical effort to heat up. From her coat she pulls out the wooden carving she was working on. Unpainted, a gash in the middle that was mended by twisted nails and its eye sockets were covered by thinned strips of black cloth on the backside, "You Darakyans work for Lord Ashfel." She puts away the mask, "You will see him later. It is kind of exciting so I wish to keep the reveal as theatrical that I can. Short of being shot on sight by some pirates."

Rana turns her back and climbs up the stairs. In a trained voice alike to a gruff older man she replies to Pacho, "No use mending these bastards, they are all dead. Search their pockets for loose change and pile them up. Where they are now, nobody is missing them." She looks back downstairs, "Bedtime then?"

Date 4th of AzaŽlle, 7453 (Winter)
Time Morning
Weather Outside Snowing, -25 C.

Raven’s denWinter has the shortest days and longest nights of any season, but that night really feels like the longest of their young lives. The clouds breath snows all night as the wind sing a restless song. The sea is raging outside, but the bay reefs provide a certain protection to the prison and the anchored ship. The party struggles a bit to sink all the rowboats, the wood is thick and it's not so easy to make holes big enough for the water to eat them completely. Meanwhile, poor Rita's body turned to ice on a bank of snow. When their task is finally done they are eager to come back inside Raven's den belly in front of the fire. The night is pleasant, warm and comfortable in a bed, the first time in weeks since their ships were attacked. Those who had a cold fill a bit better, but it will take time to shake it entirely.

Pacho and Sayyida leave before dawn as planned and get ready with Rita's corpse who spent the night outside. Tatsuo and Rana are waiting for the pirates or somebody else to show up. As expected, the pirates are leaving the Orphan with rowboats and are struggling to fight the waves and wind to make it to the prison. This gives plenty of time for everybody to see them coming with their lamp attach at the front of their small boat to see where they going. It's still dark, the sunrays have difficulties to pierce the thick grey cloud.

OOCPlease provide in your next post a description of your disguise with your disguise check, you have plenty of time to take position or do whatever you need to do before the pirates show up, it takes them at least twenty minutes to arrive from their boat.

RanaAn uneventful night, and a moment or two of excitement during the watch that Rana would rather not speak of it in public company. But the morning sun came quickly, and with it coming, both Sayyida and Pacho left to go on their ruse. Before the parties split, Rana linked every person with a simple message spell. It aught to last them until trouble came, but they could not be so sure.

Rana aided Tatsuo in finishing his disguise. She then went upstairs with a nod to dress herself.

AshfelRana was no longer here in many meanings. What stepped out to gaze downstairs with disapproval was a masked figure dressed in blackened coat and leather ornamented by snow upon his shoulders. A beard and long hair surrounded the masked visage like a great black and gray mane. About the neck was a dark gray scarf, and upon his head was a leather hood. He leaned most of his weight on a nicely made quarterstaff and announced himself with a haggard cough, "Didn't quite get your name you Darakyan lout...bah no matter, you are only here for the coin are you not?" He removed his mask to reveal the clean upper lip and pale skin beneath. He grimaced at the hired mercenary still in the fort with him, "Anything seen outside? One of those pirate friends?" He points his staff-like cane toward the bodies piled up to the side of the way in. Ashfel pulled up a stool from the gambler's table to peer down the stairs toward the fort's door, "Making us wait..."

Tatsuo, Starting the ConThe night passes uneventfully. Once it is his turn to hand over the watch, the exhausted spy sleeps more easily than he has in a long time, excitement for the morn notwithstanding.

With their rising, Tatsuo munches on a small snack before preparing his guise. A bandana ties back his locks. His mother's heritage is eclipsed from his face, and a faint shadow of facial hair & a lightened Darakyan complexion veil the rest. Enough hints in his features suggest some vague Patrenian or Selaryan heritage mingled, as well. An amulet of Celesya marks him as an acolyte of the fickle sea goddess, but symbols of other sea patrons decorate along his scarf. A morningstar rests plainly at his belt, but further weapons lie hidden from dull eyes.

"Mako, my lord," says the acolyte with a Darakyan accent. Offering a bow just this side of subservient, a flippant smile plays on his features while calculating eyes pierce from his visage. "Coin, and an auspicious tide, my lord." Walking up, the acolyte leans against the wall, an arms length from Lord Ashfel. "Aye, most inconsiderate of the cretins. Their rowboats looked a score of minutes from reaching our shore."

The weather had improved little. The wind was fierce and the freezing ate at them slowly through the layers heaped upon them. Pacho and Sayyida trudged through snow blown into deep mounds by the wind. Although it had ceased snowing, the wind blew snow astray in whirls and sprays of stinging clouds. Frequently, as they made their way to Rita's body, one or both of them would plunge armpit deep into a crevice in the snow. Once, Sayyida was buried completely until Pacho helped her to crawl out. She briefly wondered how the others who'd left were fairing on their journey before letting the thought die and concentrating on the moment.

In a hollow of rock where Rita's body was secreted, Pacho helped Sayyida tie rope around the woman's rigid flesh. They'd drag her remains back to the prison rather than carry her. The cold had frozen her in the position Sayyida had left her in her hiding place. She was curled up like a child sleeping on one side, hands tucked under her small chin. Huddled against the wind, they waited. Sayyida caught herself staring absently at Rita's face. She looked peaceful. A thin layer of fine snow making her skin sparkle in the wane light.

PachoThe night was rough but rest was rest and the cutthroat felt refreshed. As he made his way down he gave his new masters a quick smirk and a nod, the last one he would give for a while. Grinning was just not in Fred’s repertoire. He sat down in front of the mirror adjusted his new disguise, crudely shaved and draped multiple layers heavy with musk leaving one to wonder when they were last changed. The odor a trick he learned playing with post mortem fluids.
Pacho leaned close to the mirror, putting the final touches on his face and gaze. He made Fred a crude and simple every man, like a fellow who could be seen in every pub of ill repute from here to Selaryia. The kind of man who if takes a seat beside you, you find the earliest excuse to move. His gaze was submissive but with violent undertones of not wanting to be bothered, his speech slurred and guttural almost incoherent. In some ways Fred was a stone throws away of the man Pacho was, in other ways leagues a part. As the ruse began birth Pacho exited his mind and let Fred come forth, nodding and grunting to his new Lord with a disdainful obedience worthy of any low grade but capable thug.

He follow Sayyida Fred worked in much the same efficient manner as Pacho, but with more grunting and angry glares. His face dragged with frustration as she collapsed in the snow. ”A little too much” he laughed to himself as he toned back his character a tad, seeing Sayyida slightly annoyed by his ruse.

As they dragged the body Pacho was taken aback by Sayyida, her eyes deep in contemplation at the site of Rita. The corpse could do little to move the cutthroats cold emotions. The dead were dead, there was little else to it. The grieving though, especially one in the spitting image of his sister could thaw his frozen feelings. Zephyr, his sister, and even his horrid and complicated father, Sayyida reminded him whom he had to protect and why this ruse must succeed.

Sayyida tires of the cold and she tires of waiting. But more uncharacteristically, she worries for Rana. Grimacing, she shakes her head and spits into the snow. Why care for Rana bint Jimal Al Motallebzadeh? Fool. She will just use and demean you like others of her class. Then What? Will you challenge her an kill her like them? Drive your rapier into her heart?

Looking up, the cold doesn't seem to touch her anymore. She waits until her quiet draws Pacho's eyes.

"If they turn on us, you get them out," she says. "Don't wait an fight. You drag them if you must. But you do it. Understand?"

Sayyida has no fantasies about this, anything, ending well. She'd rather die than let Rana turn her to stone again. And in the end all she really has is a keen blade and deadly instinct even if she knows something else is buried within her.

"You're of no use to me an you'll just get in the way."

She looks away when she says those last words else Pacho sees the truth.

PachoCaught off guard by her sternness, his eyes widened and face dropped with a slight confusion. He took a second to collect himself before giving her a firm nod. He needed her confident, and did not want to do anything to plant seeds of doubt in her mind.

He was not her, had been suffered what she had, but from her tone he could gather and inkling of where she was coming from. He could taste it in her tone. He knew the doubt, the wanting to shoulder the world to protect those you love, but also to protect yourself from the same love. He had felt the same with Zephyr before he learned to trust.

"Where we go grit and steel will not protect us, trust in them. We are their guards only in ruse, it is they who guard us. The only way we survive this is through their cunning."Pacho said with a calm practicality.

Sayyida half nodded and then she unleashed her rapier from it's hilt and gently laid the tip against Rita's frozen dead cheek.

"I am not a cunning woman Pacho. What you see is what I am. Others live a cunning life, I just breath. If Rana's cunning is not stronger than theirs, then I will rely on what is mine."

Moving her gaze to Pacho's eyes again. Sayyida takes the whole of his face into her memory.

"I doubt Rita lived a cunning life either nor did she apparently have someone like Rana to protect her. Or they left her die as cunning people change their singing when it suits them. If Rana fails, if you fail, if I fail, I will not let her....," she says before her breath fails and she fights against some other emotion. "I will not let her end up like Rita. I will stand and you will run because that is what I am. A sword and death in a fiery costume."

Sheathing her rapier, Sayyida removes her eyes from Pacho. She would remember every line of his face and color variation of his eyes. But she doesn't really know that now. Nor does she know that she accidentally speaks of protecting Rana in her last words and passing that to Pacho if she fails. She thinks she speaks about protecting all of them if the ruse should fail - Pacho, Tatsuo, and Rana - but that isn't entirely true and, unaware of how she speaks, she can't hide it.

Pacho"What killed Rita was our over eager hands and stubborn defiance without purpose. She died so we could say we tried, even when not trying is what would've saved her" Pacho stopped and looked at Rita's face.

"All we had to do was stay obedient till a time when our actions had a chance of success, instead we all had to take our turn to stand up the pirate queen." Pacho examined the slice across Rita's.

"Delilah might've cut the throat, but we all knew where our defiance was leading. " Pacho finally grabs the corpses chin staring into its dead eyes.

"Do what you must, just do so knowing the consequences. "

”I know my role,” Sayyida quietly mumbles to herself as the wind blows snow across the face of the small alcove she and Pacho huddle in waiting for a message to act.

”I know my role.”

Mad Vixen ReturnRight on time, the pirates are braving the bay at this infernal temperature. The two scouts outside were about to turn to ice statues when they finally see some actions. Slowly, the scoundrels lower two small boats from the Orphan. Likes spiders on a wall, they crawl down the nets and board the rowboats. They estimate that they are about eight people, divided in two group. The wind blow on the pirates who have no place to hide, the weather serve as motivation to paddle as fast as they can toward the prison. Sayyida and Pacho have plenty of time to set the plan in motion with Rita's frozen body buried under the snow. Meanwhile. onside the prison Mako and Ashfel are training themselves about to interpret their alter-ego that may last few seconds or quite a while.

Mad Vixen Return
right-aligned image
The frozen pirates struggle to make it to the coast and attach their rowboat at the small dock by the prison. Hiding under their fur and cloaks, the eight human dig a path through the snow who accumulated drastically during the night. Without snowshoes, the fifty meters to make it to the prison's gate is taking forever. Pushing the doors with desperation, they make it inside the building, their face almost ready to fall off. Coughing and shacking the snow from their winter clothes they don't immediately notice the blood all over the place and the corpses of their fallen comrade.

- " BLOODY NIGHTMARE, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED! " They didn't miss that voice for sure, her cold voice echoing in the prison' lobby. Lowering her hood, Vixen draws her cutlass and dashes toward the cells, stopping in front of the only two denizens of the prison. Puzzled she points her sword at them. - " Who the heck are you? What happened? Speak now!! " Her men follow her, weapons in hands as well, seeking answers about what happened. One of the men is clearly panicked, kneeling in front of a fallen comrade. - " It's... the work of the sea devils!! " Others are already getting upset and looking for revenge, they remind that half-orc who helped tend to their needs on the first day. - " Joe... they... killed Joe, I'm going to skin them alive! "

AshfelAshfel, his mask off and his wrinkled face showing by the time the door opened, a well practiced motion went off where his face returned to a state of being covered by the patchwork carpentry of the mask. The pirates' reactions seemed palatable. As a man that had never met the Vixen, Ashfel had little need to give anything further than the rude scowl shown before his face was covered. He coughed, an unintentional hacking sound as the body tried to expel the sickness brought from the cold, "Bloody Darkaryan weather...that is a bloody nightmare."

The aged man grumbled as he brushed his beard, "Wasn't sea devils, nor was it the two of us." He pauses, then gives a sideways nod to the mass of bodies off to the side, "Did have them stacked up though, hardly a good place to sit with cold and bodies all over." He waved his hand as if to dismiss the reflexive indignant behavior from the Vixen. He continues, "What killed them was incompetence, arrogance, and nine prisoners escaping captivity in unison once the opportunity arose." Ashfel leaned on his walking stick, "Torn clothes from a woman's body, still in the cell and a dead body is enough evidence to tell me that your fools tried to use the merchandise, got entangled with a death struggle and a woman died in the mess that was worth much more gold alive than dead. Add eight others, some competent with a sword or magic and they worked their way out with the veritable armory on your underlings person."

Ashfel, the man that had yet to introduce himself raised a black-gloved finger, "My question is..." He stifles a cough, then continues, "Who are the Iron Legion, and why are they paying you..." He looks down to Tatsuo and shouts for clarification, "What's the blasted Darakyan word for it Mako? 'Milkdrinkers'?" He turns his head to look at the Vixen, repeating himself, "To be overwhelmed by nine courtly persons with a crew geared up beyond a private armies' veterans...that is the word I would use, 'milkdrinkers'." From the top of the stair, he seems to be taunting the pirate captain brazenly.
