Selarya - The Council's chamberSome made it with the assistance of the clergy of Eryka, others with the help of the monks. The result was the same with a warm welcome into the palace, a nice room, fancy food, wine, and an escort of guards led by a knight whatever where they wanted to go confined inside the walls of the largest construction of the Selarya. Not much was told to them except that they will be summoned for the reading of the will at the Chancellor convenience. Three long days go by before they are finally requested in the council's chamber. A long time ago the king of each great ancient cities of the world met there with Eryka to discuss the affair of the world. The Sultan of Birone, The King of Iridya, The Dwarven King of Gardalia and the bard King of Valkara. This room is particular for the colourful mosaic that covers all the walls with crystal tiles. The round table in the center is made from a block of deep crystal, renowned for its strength and its magical resonant nature. This one is enchanted to prevent any form of magic to work around it, including spying spell that some could be tempted to use to spy on the council. Today around it are gathered the surviving beneficiary of the Empress' will, or so they think.

Around the table are a lot of nobles or descendant of one of the Empress' Crusader of the roses. Only Sir Owen is standing behind the Chancellor and was invited as a guest and witness as the former first knight of the Empress. Sitting beside the Chancellor is Holy Mother Roseanne Arber, a lady in the mid-forties that is the head of Eryka's clergy and executor of the Will.

With the two old sage, there are five relatives of great rulers with them that as per the Empress' desires were chosen from the ruler of their country to represent their respective nation as one of the heir. She is Rita's sister who died in the prisonElizabeth Valkarana, Daughter of King Seldor Valkarana who was assigned to replace her sister death. Aurelia Cornaya, Niece of Empress Helena Cornaya and daughter of Queen Elza Cornaya. Taevar Seaborn, an illegitimate son of King Aksel Ponceludon. Korag Bolin, son of King Norag Bolin and Rana bint Jimal Al Motallebzadeh, daughter of Sultan Abibi Motallebzadeh. Sounds like Adera chooses her half-sister since the start of this endeavour.

Not the least, the Empress wishes include also children of her loyal crusaders of the roses. Unfortunately many were killed recently. Durante Carillonneur, son of an orphan monk named Baltar who was Crusader of roses. Tatsuo d'Aidendale, son of Earl Devon d'Aidendale and Crusader of the Roses. Sayyida al'Hurra, daughter of Kemal Reis and Crusader of the Roses. Pacho Corello, son of spymaster Armond Corello Crusader of the roses. Olesia is the only person who was kidnapped from the pirates that declined her inheritance, devoting entirely her life to Eryka without a desire for a political role. The other relative of Crusader of the roses were killed trying to reach the capital.

As the great holy mother read the names on the will there are a few revelations. First according to them, Taevar is the bastard son of King Aksel Ponceludon a well-known womanizer. Somehow he must have liked his unknown mother a lot to choose him over his legitimate children. Dante also never knew his real father's name, so this comes as a shock that he served the Empress closely. Owen never told him about his father for some reason, that explains why the old knight always have been fond of him.

After the presentations are completed the holy mother continue reading the scroll. - " I was the Empress, mother of the whole Empire, however I never had children of my own blood. You have been chosen to be one of my heirs from your royal parent or you are one of my heirs because your parents were heroes of the empire. My throne is empty, and through proper Trials I intend to choose one of you for the ultimate honour and glory to continue my legacy. " The middle-aged lady takes a pause and drinks a bit of water from her cup slowly. - " Holy Mother Roseanne Arber, Chancellor Frederick Olm and Sir Owen Turner will determine who is worthy among those of you who will survive and succeed in my trials. They will have one week at the end of the trials to come to a decision. All my knights, archdukes, and imperial generals received as my final order to swear allegiance to the new emperor or retire. The new emperor or empress will receive all my treasures, properties and lands I own as well. That will be up to you after that to convince the kings and nobles to accept you as the new ruler of the empire. " There's another pause as the wise lady scans the room with her bright eyes, after all Owen was much more involved than he let them know since the beginning.

- " Your quest is simple, you need to work together to retrieve the imperial regalia in the next four months following the reading of my will. The soul cleaver, an ancient bastard sword that served me well all those years. The eternal crown, crafted by Eryka herself and symbol of the true ruler of the city. The last one is the sceptre of the elemental forces, gift from the ancient gods to Eryka. I knew for some time that I was dying and the three relics were hidden in the city of Selarya for your trials but also for their safety since they old power beyond your imagination. You will need strength but also wits to succeed. The priestess nods and continues. - " Whatever happened to the regalia, you are to bring the three objects in my resting shrine under the palace. Remember, you have four months following the exact moment of the reading of the will. That's 180 days in our calendar at the time of the reading. "

- " There are only three rules for your trials, if you don't respect them the holy mother and the imperial spies working for the chancellor will surely learn the truth. First you should never use the regalia under any circumstances. The second rule is that you shouldn't murder each other or cause any harm to each other directly or indirectly by asking a third party. The third rule is that you shouldn't seek help from your family, relatives, friends, religious brothers, loyal subjects, servants, imperial officials, brother in arms, and so on. That will be up to the judge to determine if you followed those three rules or not. " Again she looks intensively at the audience. - " Only one can be named Emperor or Empress, but assuming that more than one of you survive, each of fhe others will receive a prize of one quarter million of gold pieces from my treasury for your trouble. If it's not enough motivation, know that if no one succeeds that would likely break the empire in pieces and civil wars will follow without a legitimate successor. " There's more to the will as wishes of good luck, some philosophy and poetry the Empress wrote for the occasion. She was a warrior, but a wise and cunning one, the will finish with the following. - " My body will be moved in my family mausoleum at the end of the trials. May the gods help you, you will need it. "

Roseanne close the scroll and put it on the table for anybody who would like to read it and verify the empress seal and signature. It's also signed by the Chancellor and the holy mother as witnesses with their own seal. It's unlikely that this could be challenged by the nobles and lord of the city. The Chancellor who remained silent during the reading speak first. - " I suppose you may have questions? We'll do our best to answer them properly, however we can't help you directly with the trials. We'll stay in the palace for the entire process under heavy protection, monitoring your progress with scrying and other resources at our disposal. "

RanaWith the protection of the Erkyan clergy at hand, Rana had agreed to Tatsuo, "They will find their way soon enough. Dante and Pacho appear incredibly resourceful. Far more so than myself, whom had survived this journey entirely off of luck and pity." She gave a self-appreciative smile as she lowered her hood back over her eyes.

Later, the escort put Rana on the edge, almost feeling as if something was bound to go wrong before arrival. But despite her fears, their arrival was provided as per the offer. They had a moment on their own to mull in the waiting room. With a day gone by of pacing back and forth, and possibly meeting those that have arrived in the palace, Rana unmade the changes to her voice and tweaked her armbands to shape her dress into one of her normal wares, one of flowing red silk, with open shoulders and back, while her cloak became that of a cape over one of her arms.

For the announcement, she stood by Sayyida's side, trusting on her alone to provide protection for her person, and the honor of Matuzula, whether or not Sayyida believed she works for such a thing. Rana was pensively in thought during the entire thing. By the end, she had to step forward, "While the council of those judging us are under heavy, justified protection. I worry there is already a third party involved trying to disrupt these trials. If they weren't aware of the trials themselves, they were aware of nine names that were due to arrive today. While I am unaware of who this third party is by name or face, they call themselves the 'Legion of Steel'. They have been behind quite the operation of kidnapping nobility across the the continent. Due to correspondence between one of these persons and the Imadyr, this Legion of Steel also prepared to ambush us upon arrival to Selarya. It is most fortunate we bypassed such an encounter, but the threat exists."

Pausing for a moment, Rana spoke once more, "As we are pressured to going about these trials on our own, it seems to be in the interests of all in attendance that this adversarial force is wiped off the board, as individual resources have proven little more than a deterrent to them in the past." She looked about those in the council chamber. There is the errant, paranoid thought that one of the persons in this room, at least, were behind the attacks, but she gave no voice to such thoughts. She then asks, "Other than these elements that appear to actively seek this as a bloody conflict. I wish a more solid definition of a third party, if those among the meeting currently, those involved, are allowed to work together, can we not also employ or work with strangers in the discovery of these treasures? Provided of course they are not of known national power."

Sayyida holds steady but at a particular time during the reading of the will she snorts loudly, frowning. She didn't like hunting treasure regardless of it being a fond past-time of sailors. In one declaration they were not to intervene or harm each other and yet after more words it was made clear that there was a distinct possibility that they would all die and the Empire unravel because of it. Unless, of course, they find all of the regalia which has been inexplicably hidden within the city for the purposes of protecting it. She half expected to be told they would have to hunt blind folded and naked with bells tied around their ankles while only allowed to consume cake, if it were an odd day of the week, and frogs, if it were even. Exasperation eventually sets in and Sayyida grumbles, her words grating after the end of Rana's more refined and smoothed inquiry.

"No help from 'and so on'. As in everyone. Did the Empress loose her mind in the end? Or did some daft administrator write those foolish words. If we are to not obtain help from anyone, are we to wander about aimlessly until we happen to get struck by lightening or the time runs out? Or, as is written, we can only obtain assistance from disloyal subjects since they are the only group that is not forbidden?"

In the end, Sayyida lets her Matazulan spirit show and she earns the common held belief that southern people are not only warm, but hot tempered and unpredictable. She also knew that no one here could be trusted, whether clergy or common, guard or administrator. The fact that they would attempt to monitor their progress by scrying meant they should all expect trouble and no sleep. Information would sieve from this foppish palace like blood washed with salt water thru the gunnels of a ship's deck after close range broadside canon-shot.

"As if no one will help us after hearing the losers still receive a quarter million in gold. Not to mention all the betting and bleeding factions will undertake to back a desired ship. Did the Empress win and build an Empire hunting eggs," she asks argumentatively. "Or bludgeoning and collecting nation-states by the strength of her arm, her mastery of tactics, and her understanding of leadership?"

Sayyida is about to stomp out until she catches Rana's eyes on her and she shakes her head but settles none the less. "Foolishness," she says in a much smaller voice. "I imagine they'll decide the Admiralty with a three legged race. Which will be difficult since no one will be allowed to partner up let alone share the admiralty."

Dante The Matazulyan dogs were barking, but Dante could barely hear them – he was somewhere else entirely.

Quote:
Durante Carillonneur, son of an orphan monk named Baltar who was Crusader of roses.
Baltar… The word was barely audible as Dante whispered his eyes looking upwards but seeing nothing at all.

Dante couldn’t focus on the meeting at hand; he could feel his pulse racing and his face slightly flushed. He hadn’t felt like this since the first time he’d accidently poisoned himself with Demon Whip – he’d passed out at the young aged of fifteen and woke up in a puddle of his own vomit. And that was how he felt right now.

Everything all around him turned a grey color; it enveloped him and the world fell away.

Was he breathing? Was he holding his breathe?

Breathe Dante. Breath.

His heart fluttered, his bones slid, his skin rippled, his teeth itched. He was falling.

Falling away from it all.

Who will catch me?

Sofia? Jaque?

…Baltar?

The suddenly he was back.

The world came into crisp focus, the color seemed almost radiant and the sounds and smells all seemed… right.

He had gone twenty-nine years not knowing his father’s name, and this changed little. He was who he was, not because of him but because of Sofia and Jaque. They were his family, not this faceless name that somehow entrenched him even deeper into this game of chess, where many of the pieces were still unknown.

Had Jaque known this whole time? Of course, Jaque knew – if the Empress knew, Jaque knew.

The why not tell me?

It mustn’t have been important. Remember Dante you are a tool to be wielded, for the good of the Empire.

The good of the Empire.

Is… is that it? Is there no starting clue? A hint? A limerick, perhaps? The Empress was fond of them, or so I’ve heard.

Dante had no doubt by this point Sir Owen had filled them in about the Legion and their trails and tribulations for arrival.

Dante knew the sooner this began the sooner it would end. And regardless of how this ended, he knew that after the next 180 days he’d never need to see these people again.

Tatsuo - Probate HearingAfter the escort by the Erykan guard, the blessing of good fortune just would not relent. Suffering so long under such straits and misfortunes, things going smoothly and without a hitch, the shock of it is nearly too much for Tatsuo. He is caught between relief and paranoia that something worse is lurking.

Eventually, the great day appears. Quite a throng is gathered from the several realms. Tatsuo offers civil pleasantries to each of those in attendance. His thinnest smile is reserved for Aurelia. The native Athenyan doesn't need Olesia's personal account to know that the Patrenian princess is a really mean piece of work.

The will's contents are no small surprise, staggering even. He didn't realize that his father's service to the empire nearly so involved (not to mention Sayyida or Dante's fathers). Moving to the present, Tatuso smiles that Rana has already addressed the most glaring issue. "As expected, the Lady Al Motallebzadeh has shrewdly hit upon one of our chief concerns, this Legion interposing itself," he speaks with smooth formality. Leaning forward on the table, he regards the Chancellor intently. "I am rather curious about one detail of this hunt for the regalia. This is the first I, or most any here, heard that they were even missing. Were they deliberately hidden for this test? Or are they actually stolen?" He smirks a little. "If the former, as Brother Durante pointed out, such hunts often begin with such clues."

The mystic spy flashes a weary glance toward the fencing sailor's posturing. "She did not win it by jumping to conclusions or impulsive barbs either, Miss al'Hurra," he deftly chides. "And I believe artifact hunting is a larger part of great men's lives than you suspect. Plenty of swordarm & tactics required." His father's tales certainly come to mind. He chuckles softly, "Since the restriction is against help from your own subjects, you don't have to worry about that since, as you may recall, Miss al'Hurra, you don't have any. The rest of it makes sense once you realize that; you are now on an equal playing field with the royal heirs of the realm."

Turning back to the chancellor, "While there are understandably stiff penalties for assaulting each other and we all compete for a single prize, m'lord, what is the policy about some of us cooperating together? Teaming up as it were?"

PachoThe cut throat had kept his gratitude to the monks for their service short and professional. Like Dante they had their own concerns and Pacho felt it best to be as little a burden as possible. He spent the next few days wondering the palace, keeping an eye out for tails that never came. At points he wished the legion would strike just to break the monotony but the reading came and his blades were still collecting dust.

As everyone entered pacho made his way across the room and stood next to the others , only making a quick stop by Elizabeth to express his condolences for her loss. Her sister had saved their life and it would be rude not to show gratitude.

"Good to see you all made it." he said flat toned as he turned and listened, his eyes darting with surprise to his father at the mention of his service as a Knight of the Rose. The old man was never one to blather on about his past, but him and his sister had their suspicions. Though now he old his sister a fair bit of coin on this one.

He had to share Sayyida assessment of the situation. It seemed all so senseless, the death, the Empire crumbling before them, all in order to await the results of a treasure hunt.

"I do know a man, can’t swim though." Pacho jested overhearing Sayyida’s comment towards Rana.

"Agatta Cotton is wanted for stealing from the treasury. Now we are tasked with finding some jewels. I doubt they are connected, but makes me wonder" Pacho said as he looked over to their parents.

"Maybe the legion is part of the test." Pacho’s eyes rolled back to his fellow heirs to get their read on his wild conspiracy. Though he suspected the others did not grow up with parents who would gamble with their children in such a way on a regular basis.

Selarya - The Council's chamber
right-aligned image
Princess Aurelia Cornaya of Patrenia
With patience, the old Chancellor answers the first questions. - " We were informed about the Legion of Steel and will deploy all the efforts we can to neutralize those who are interfering with the Empress' wishes. Regardless of our best effort, it will probably leak that there's a hunt for the regalia and other groups might interfere. There's no clue provided by the three of us, other than the three relics were hidden in the city around the empress death. You have to work together, cooperate and share pieces of information, otherwise it's unlikely many will survive those trials. You can split into smaller groups to be more efficient if you'd like since you only have four months. You can work with strangers and hire them if you'd like with your own resources, this is fine. You can still interrogate and talk to anybody you wish, you are just forbidden to ask any favour from the people I mentioned. The people directly involved in hiding the regalia won't answer your questions. The spirit behind those rules is to avoid that one of you request an army from your homeland to do the work or ask your personal wizard at home to give you a ridiculous advantage. "

The female high cleric of Eryka adds to that a bit of wisdom. - " The trials are not only meant to prove yourself but also shape your character as a potential future ruler. Eryka herself had to go through trials of her own from the gods before she was fit to lead the races of origin. You will be judged on the journey, not only the goal. " Sir Owen remains silent.

Aurelia releases a hearty laugh when Sayyida mention that the empress lost her mind. - " You are assuming that my grandmother was totally sane to begin with. She had a mind beyond most of us mere mortals can understand. Knowing the late empress, I really doubt that the Will is telling everything. Even in death she is still playing with all of us and there's probably a second agenda to this. The Empire is already breaking down, we don't have time for this. Birone and other lands will surely fall before we are done. The council of guardians is only talking instead of acting. " With a stronger tone, she makes a suggestion that almost sound like an order with the confidence of a queen. - " Chancellor, for the good of the realms the three of you should name a successor immediately and avoid unnecessary bloodshed. The Empress is no more and you have the power with the high priestess to dissolve the will. "

His eyes widen as he looks intensively to the young princess. - " Thank you for your... suggestion your highness, but I must decline. The Empress' wishes have to be executed even if it cost lives. " She didn't expect him to accept, yet Aurelia is satisfied that she shared a piece of her mind on the matter.

The Patrenia princess turns to Pacho. - " Well, speaking of sharing knowledge Agata Cotton did steal one of the pieces of the regalia, so I know for a fact that the sword is not in the city anymore. Did we ever meet? So you are the spymaster son, right? You do share his cleverness it would seem. It's possible the Legion is part of the trials, you are stealing my thunder. Regardless, I heard they gave all of you a hard time and this need to be dealt with. " They did meet but she probably forgot since Pacho is unremarkable at the Patrenia's court. Meanwhile the representant of Valkara, Rana's sister, remained silent until now smiling like a doll and taking notes. - " Regardless of those trials, the legion kidnapped and killed my sister. They have to be brought to justice and pay for their crimes, God helps us if the Empress was responsible for that. "

Tatsuo - Probate HearingThe mystic spy looks among the Chancellor and other judges as they field most of the questions. "If that is our task, very well, m'lord. Good to know that we needn't cast off working relationships fashioned thus far."

His eyes glance over at the Take 10 on Know(Nobility): 16 for Aurelia and Elizabeth.two princess' comments. A wry smirk stretches at the Chancellor's answer to Aurelia's demand. "It seems that we shall have to make time, Your Highness. If Her late Majesty 'had a mind beyond most of us,' mayhap we should trust it now as we trusted in life. That said, the rightly alluded good of the realms would appreciate some haste."

Tatsuo casts sympathetic eyes toward the Valkarana princess and smiles. "Nay, these cretins shan't escape justice for that or any of their other crimes, Your Highness," he assures confidently. "For this legion to be tied to the trial, one would expect its efforts to be spread evenly over all the hopefuls, not merely a select some. In that vein ..." He regards the Chancellor again. "Who are all the invitees that are not in attendance, m'lord?" They had losses in Darakya; it would serve to know anyone else targeted. So far, the only known hopeful distinctly absent from the list was Aurelia.

Selarya - The Council's chamberThe cryptic old man doesn't say much about the fate of the other heirs invited. - " We provided the information that was required as per the Empress wishes. People around the table are the final heirs. One per great royal family, and one offspring maximum per crusader of the roses. Some declined their part in the trials or were not able to make it here on time. " Aurelia doesn't respond to Tatsuo comments about that they shall have to make the time and make a half smile when the old man doesn't provide names. - " In other words, we are on our own Chancellor. Can we keep access to the palace and that room at our convenience during the trials? " The chancellor nods. - " All the rooms of the palace except the treasury are free for you to visit and investigate if you wish. The Chamberlain of the palace will give you one set of skeleton keys. " Elizabeth returns Tatsuo kind words about justice with bright eyes. - " If the legion stole the empress' sword, that's the lead I would like to follow and investigate. I have to settle the score. " The bastard son of the King of Camorya was still shocked by the revelation about his father, finally Taevar speaks up. - " We might need to split in two groups, some who go after the legion for the sword, while the other investigate the two other items who might still be in the city. Otherwise we mind run out of time if going after the sword take us weeks away from the city. Thought? "

PachoPacho did not enjoy the flattery, not from that woman. Aurelia had torrent his love even someone like he could never forgive. He kept his calm by imaging Rana washing the woman’s mouth out with acid.

He only nodded at the princess’s inquest into his heritage, grudgingly accepting the usefulness of her information and hoping his face fades back into the obscurity of her mind. Tatsuo’s inquisitiveness did seem to vex her, and the cutthroat took what little pleasure he could in her irritation.

"Were items stolen from the treasury, and if so may we have access at least under guard to investigate?" Pacho said, slightly hoping access might bare extra fruit besides clues.

RanaPatient as she was only a year ago, recent events did not make Rana calm when being swiftly rebuffed about the threat of the legion. The response sounded, to her, rather non-committal despite possibly being the greatest third-party threat that had obtained at least the legendary blade the Soul Cleaver. The recent incompetence of imperial intelligence up to this point seems rather fishy. She clutches Sayyida's hand for some support. Pacho and Tatsuo appeared to be testing the judges to let slip some clues.

Rana had other, future worries, "Lets take it for granted that survival is possible among all in attendance. The artifacts of the empress are reclaimed, and then enshrined." She glances over at Aurelia, a woman who is known to consider the throne her divine right, if not right by birth. Within her mind, if Rana were a betting woman, she would pin the entirety of the Legion of Steel upon her head as she is the only one here that has not been known to have been targeted. Though she cannot read Pacho's mind, she can only share his thought that it is a shame there are rules about thinning out competition. She continues, "I would suppose there is some, objective way to determine which of us is worthy of rulership and which of us are granted considerable portions of the treasury. Else wise, this competition might as well breed a civil war whether the artifacts are discovered or no. Say..." She gave Sayyida's hand a gentle squeeze once more, "Myself, and my cousin Sayyida have a disagreement on what it takes to be a ruler. I eventually take the crown but there is yet resentment. Would this not split up the realm in some effect as all survivors have been deemed worthy of the Empress?" Rana

hopes her sister could understand, that by the end of this Aurelia would make herself an enemy if not chosen.

Then, Rana pauses to address Taevar's concerns, "I haven't an army at my back and, according to the rules, I am not allowed to. Chasing after the Legion that has their claws deep in the current rebels assaulting the Matuzulan throne, and has wealth to spare in financing cannons and other military equipment to bands of pirates with naught but my party dress is not my idea of a reasonable request or trial of a leader. It goes without saying of course that whoever does go after the legion will have to contend with a champion of sorts that wields one of the Empress's own panoply of artifacts. We have already met one of the legion that can turn the living to ash in not but a word or a stroke of their weapon, I advise securing the other artifacts and convincing the dear judges on hand that the authority of nations, and not might of individuals is necessary to slay these vipers." Rana says, looking at Chancellor hoping for a reaction that doesn't simply ooze more words of secrecy.

Selarya - The Council's chamberThe three judges remain inert at the question of where the sword was stolen, seeing that no answer will come from them, the war priestess has an answer. - " As far as I know the sword was stolen from the Empress' hands, while she was exposed in the hall of roses. This happened during the night and the templars of the cathedral pursuing the thief saw Agata Cotton in the flesh with the sword in her hands. "

Their mouth remains mostly shut as well after Rana's preoccupation. Only the great mother answer. - " My child, we have to trust her judgement and focus on our tasks. Yours is to return the regalia here, mine is to make sure the will is executed. If this triad comes to a decision, it will be enforced with all the power of Selarya and Eryka's might at our disposal. " The old chancellor only nods.

Elizabeth is a bit frightened about someone who can turn the living into ashes. - " That sounds... horrible. I'm not sure we should split then. " The only dwarf in the room makes his loud voice heard. - " We already got our asses cooked and handed over because we were divided... Euh... sorry for the language holy mother. " He wants to crawl under the table under the powerful gaze of Eryka's champion on earth.

Aurelia smirks at Rana's suggestion. - " A sounds strategy to retrieve the items in the city first, and secure them before they are discovered by enemies. Splitting into two groups as long we remain in the city to speed up our investigation is a reasonable risk, I actually would welcome some action and an opportunity to meet those scary legionnaires you are all so concerned about and teach them a lesson. " The scary part was ironic, she is amused and little concerned about the legion. Taevar looks at the compelling war priestess. - " Make sense, I'm okay with that as long we meet every two days at the palace to share information and assess the situation. "

Amid Nobles
right-aligned image

"Great men treasure hunt because the are bored, Marquess d'Aidendale," Sayyida says to Tatsuo drawing out both the word great and the man's title. "They hunt because they've the wealth and power to do so with the expectation that it elevates both. It takes neither sword skill nor tactics. Just a greed to increase their holdings and the selfish myopia of station. Which means the field is still unequal because fortunately, as your so kind to belabor, I call no man or woman a subject and your surely more discomfited by that arrangement than I," she adds at the end.

Tatsuo was cut of a similar cloth it would seem as Aurelia and Sayyida's laugh is cold as the noble mocks them by naming the legion 'scary' and offhandedly stating that she would just teach them a lesson. Tatsuo had done no less moments before. Such was moneyed nobility. Vane and full of hubris even as they lay dying with blood leaking from their mouth and ears. That's the ideas of the world one gets from bouncing on an Earl's knee or being feed cake by three for breakfast. Aurelia thinks a simple hand wave and her attention would be enough to make the Legion quake like children under her chastisement. That they are as easily undone as is poverty and famine unless they be the disease of the lazy and unprepared. She squeezes Rana's hand back as her laugh trickles into nothing.

"So we're agreed then. Princess Aurelia will vanquish the Legion if inappropriately met - you can't imagine how relieved that makes me feel - and we'll all hunt treasure in the city on an even playing field. Or am I mistaken. Sometimes the high speech of true born goes over my lesser head. So perhaps someone can talk down to me some more. Do we mix ranks in this split or keep to the genteel groupings of our birth? I certainly would be mollified if my sword got in the way of anyone's dignity."

Selarya - The Council's chamberAurelia yawns, covering her full lips with her gloved hand, in the middle of Sayyida response to her arrogance about the legion. No reaction beyond that, not even a cold stare, the imperial princess expression remains stoic for a moment. Finally, she says something after an uncomfortable silence around the table. - " Sorry, you were saying something pirate? " Taevar coughs and quickly change the subject before this escalates. - " So we agree, let's split. I suppose Sayyida and Lady Rana would be the core of one team, while Aurelia and Tatsuo would lead the second team. " Taevar never had much of an ego, trying to split the alpha females sounded like the right thing to do and maybe the noble Patrenian can deal with his princess. Quickly the heirs manage to organize two groups to get started in their research. Korag and Elizabeth weren't picky and they were no objection to the setup. It's still the morning and everybody is eager to get started since time is the essence. The holy mother of Eryka and the two old men retired themselves from the council's chamber when the two-party get going. - " Taevar is right, let's meet in this room in two days at dawn to share our findings. We are done here. I Wish you all a pleasant day. " Polite to Rana, Elizabeth and Korag, she barely looks at the others before leaving the room first, a typical behaviour from the imperial family with people of lower birth. Liz doesn't make formality and share a smile with everybody from the other group before leaving. Taevar and the dwarf shake hands before parting ways.

RanaThis time, Rana decided to mostly stay silent while Sayyida, in a different meaning than usual, crossed tongues with a noble woman. Rana mostly agreed to the arrangements laid out by Taevar, he being more willing than she to intervene. After all, this woman was conceited and arrogant, lacking much of Rana's personal touch to lowering her speech to anyone of any status. It is when she was spoken to, does she wear a usual smile and dips her head, "It has been a pleasure crossing paths. I cannot wait to ascertain your progress when next we meet." After

lying through her teeth to the woman that Rana made sure abandoned the room first. Then did Rana gather her thoughts, 'Either Adira was lying about Sayyida being my half-sister, or the late Empress found the position of being a credible offspring of her crusaders of greater value to her in these trials.' She looked to the person that had perfectly taught her paranoia, among other fiery passions.

As the persons in the room thin out, Rana pulls Sayyida aside to murmur in her ear, "You will make me jealous, spending so much of your time on a woman like that cousin." She gives her a slight smile and tilts her head in the direction of the doorway, practically asking Sayyida to take the lead this time.

Once out of the anti-magic council room, Rana quickened her pace to, hopefully, catch up with Elizabeth, "Excuse me, Princess Elizabeth." She curtsies as formalities allow, "I would first like to offer my condolences on behalf of your lost family. We...did not know her in the slightest, but we were helpless witnesses to her last moments." After a moment of silence for whatever pleasantries Elizabeth would share, Rana looked back to Korag, and then to Elizabeth, "Not to burden you gravely, but would you happen to have any expertise on discovering hidden things? I am afraid my own talents are for speaking among our fellow peoples, while my cousin has been quick with a sword and Prince Korag, I do believe is handy with a crossbow." She offers the princess her hand, "Would you like to join us in becoming more acquainted with each other, as we are to search for these treasures for the foreseeable future?"

OOCIf Rana is rejected here, think it is time to finish up her Greater Hat of Disguise, then do some investigations as an everyman of Selarya.
