What's the campaign going to be like, in terms of content?

I have two or three character concepts I'm toying with and want to choose one that's going to mesh well with what you want to run. Is it a mystery? Exploration? Lots of action/explosions? Etc.

Name: Koyi Cholakk
Species: Twi'lek (Female)
Class: Hired Gun (Mercenary)
Motivation: Help the Rebel Alliance remove the Imperial presence on Agsalia (Overthrow the Empire)
Personality: Forlorn and lost in thought if not in combat or dealing with another sentient. She would be eagerly accepted into the Rebel Alliance as an officer if she could only work through her depression. When motivated, her forceful personality comes through and catches others by surprise.
Goals: See for herself that the Rebel Alliance can make a difference and find a brighter outlook for her life
Duty: Finding a way to free Agsalia from the Empire (Responsibility)

Background: Koyi and her family have led a hard life. Her parents were slaves to a crime lord Hutt that had them working on a space station in the Outer Rim; Escaping their fate only when a rival cartel attacked the space station. The pair snuck aboard one of the cartel vessels and hid in one of the escape pods. Once the cartel approached another planet, Koyi's parents activated the escape pod and found they had landed safely on the planet Jedha.

The two Twi'lek only met when they escaped together, but now had to rely on each other even more to survive in this new environment. Jedha had plenty of work for the pair even though mining wasn't similar to their expertise in entertainment. Over time they grew to love each other and decided to eke out a simple life on this desert moon. Once the pair made enough money mining Kyber crystals, they opened a small merchant stand in the marketplace and life was as good as they had ever known. The future looked bright when they conceived a child together. Koyi was born and raised for five years on Jedha before the Empire arrived on the planet. What used to be an honest living, mining Kyber crystals, turned into a dangerous day-to-day fight for survival. The Empire was not very tolerant of non-human species so Koyi's parents made sure to keep her out of sight as much as possible. Living inside during her younger years took a toll on the young girl.

A resistance movement on Jedha became the last straw for Koyi's parents. They used their old trick of stowing away to escape the planet and boarded a merchant vessel that was contracted to bring supplies to the Empire. The vessel the stowed away on was owned by WarrCo. This time, however, the twi'leks were discovered and captured. The captain was lenient on the family, though, and decided it was best to just drop them off at the vessel's next destination - Agsalia.

Koyi would spend the rest of her childhood on Agsalia. It was a planet untouched by the Empire and was being nurtured by an effort that started in the final days of the Republic. The peaceful Ithorians and Gran often liked to see Koyi play around the colony and would entertain her with stories and songs of more peaceful times and places. Sadly, the colony began to collapse without aid from the Republic. WarrCo purchased rights to the colony and promised the citizens that they would shield them from the Empire in exchange for what equated to contracted slavery. Most of the colonists agreed, seeing WarrCo as the lesser of two evils, and went to work transforming the colony into more of a factory and warehouse district than a livable area for sentients.

Corporate greed soon led to security being overlooked and faction of pirates set their sites on the planet. Fierce space battles took place in orbit and Koyi still remembers to this day watching them at night. The battles lasted for nearly a decade and finally the corporation fled and abandoned the planet after their losses became too great. Koyi was now a young woman and her parents were ill from being overworked and the lack of medical care; She needed to find a way to support them. The pirates would start to come down and raid the warehouses and corporate offices, leaving the colonists alone for the most part. Koyi would go on raiding parties as well, with other colonists, and search for supplies left over. The colonists would engage with the pirates once in a while, but mostly tried to avoid them if possible.

Several, tiresome months passed and when it looked like the pirates might decide to set up a base of operations on Agsalia, the Empire arrived. The Empire wasted no time in decimating the pirate forces and even went as far as sweeping the colony for all life forms. Anyone that was suspected to be a pirate was purged from the city. Koyi's parents, being too frail to put up a fight, were executed. Koyi survived with a handful of other colonists that she had been on raiding parties with, and only came back to discover the fate of her parents after the first Empire sweep was over with.

The survivors of Agsalia either submitted to the Empire or fled into the wilderness. Koyi chose to flee.

OOCNot sure the actual timeline of the planet, so I just wrote up the background with a loose idea of how her life had gone up to the point of the start of the game.

The exact content of the story will depend greatly on what character we get and what their goals and motives are. So, specifically, I can't tell you. However, I find that mysteries don't work well in this forum. Exploration can bog down as well, so things will be more action-adventure. There may be mystery and exploration elements but it won't be a focus.
Timeline: The exact timeline is flexible. If you need something to be true, then we can work it in. However, that said, I envisioned the phases of Agsalia happening over the course of decades. The colonization could easily have taken a couple of generations (if not more). WarrCo moved in to try to establish orbital industry - which would have taken decades. The Pirates only moved in once the system was abandoned by corporate interests and discretely used it as a base for several years. The Empire is a pretty recent thing - only having been on the planet for a year or so.

Application's mostly done- I'll post it now, then read it again later, fix any mistakes and maybe make a little tweak here or there. I'll let you know when I'm happy with the result .
Application's done and ready for review !
I made some last-minute changes to gear; lowered my Duty by 5 and purchased some stuff I think I'll need with the extra 1000 credits .

Kai Sias'ur
right-aligned image

Background: On Bothawui, Kai was a minor player in his world's political stage. Despite his best attempts, the young Bothan was waylaid at every turn by the simple fact that, even on his home planet, the Empire's pro-human tendencies marginalized his own species. The countless times Kai's projects were sidelined simply because he was not human eventually led the Bothan to find other, less legitimate ways of undermining his opponents. Rather than work to have the output of refineries polluting otherwise lucrative farmlands regulated, Kai would use his influence to get a guided tour of the facilities, then sabotage the main reactors covertly. Rather than try to beat a human party in an obviously rigged vote, Kai would slice into his opponent's bank accounts and empty the campaign funds.

Even employing dishonest means, however, was not enough to counteract the Empire's discrimination- it only served to rile the human government up, making them even more vindictive against his kind, and more blatant in its favouritism. Deciding that there was no way he, or any Bothan, would ever accomplish anything while the Empire was in charge, Kai did the only thing he could think of- leave Bothawui and, after years of performing acts of sabotage, slicing and espionage, get himself noticed and subsequentially recruited by the fledgling rebellion. The plan worked, and before long, Kai was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

For the past few weeks, Kai has been stationed on Malastare pending the operation on Agsalia, studying the oceanic planet's off-world data traffic in an attempt to find any weaknesses in the Imperial infrastructure. The corrupt nature of Malastare has proven ideal for Kai's activities, although the peaceful, communal, socially needy Gran of that world are starting to get on his nerves...

Motivation: Influence. Like many Bothans, Kai's upbringing has taught him that the pursuit of personal power, both political and economical, is paramount. Yet within the Empire, non-humans are relegated to living on the fringe, being little more than second-rate citizens. This prevents Kai from gaining any sort of influence beyond the confines of his homeworld, Bothawui- and even there, Imperial governors make it all but impossible for Bothans to advance in any meaningful way. Kai sees the Rebel Alliance as the only viable way of weakening the Empire's grip on the galaxy.

Personality: Highly individualistic, Kai is, when it comes down to it, mostly concerned about himself. This selfish nature is hidden beneath a public persona- as a politician, Kai understands the value of at least appearing to act as if he is an idealist, working with the people's best interests in mind. While this is a fairly common philosophy among Bothans, Kai sets himself apart from his species by being content with a place in the shadows. Rather than become a public leader, Kai desires to manipulate those leaders into listening to him. This quirk stems from a desire for self-preservation; best to let others paint a target on their backs than bear one yourself, after all.

This attitude affects Kai's approach to social situations as well, in that he hardly ever bothers with them. He works to secure alliances, befriends people he thinks will be valuable assets in the long run... But outside of professional relationships, he tends to keep to himself. Getting close to someone, after all, means leaving oneself vulnerable, something Kai is loathe to do. This trait is often mistaken for shyness, which frustrates Kai to no end. He simply does not feel the need for amicality, and cannot comprehend why anyone would.

Quite divorced from his cautious, quiet nature, however, Kai enjoys his work as a saboteur very much. Stealing data and blackmailing Imperial officials is one thing, but there is something about blowing up the Empire's facilities and resources that just makes Kai happy. Perhaps it is an outlet for the pent-up frustrations of this normally very cautious Bothan... Or perhaps Kai has just become slightly unhinged over the years.

Goals: While Kai supports the Rebel Alliance unquestioningly, he does so for his own reasons. The Alliance is a means to an end, a way to weaken the Empire and get rid of its pro-human policies. While fighting to achieve equality for all species is a lofty goal, Kai isn't in it for idealism. His hopes of overthrowing or even just weakening the Empire stem from his rather selfish goal of attaining a measure of influence on galactic economy or politics. As for his ultimate endgame, Kai is still undecided- what is important is the pursuit of influence, no matter which form that influence takes. For now, he is content to work towards ending the most prominent obstacle on his path.

Duty: Sabotage. Despite its heart and dedication to its cause, the Rebel Alliance is, ultimately, unable to fight the Empire on an equal footing. Diplomats and agitators might be able to win the hearts and minds of people, but without tangible results, noone will take them seriously. Acts of sabotage both weaken the Empire's infrastructure, and demonstrate to the people that the Rebellion is about more than empty words.

The fact that his work as a saboteur allows Kai to work in the shadows is a bonus; direct confrontations might impact his public image negatively, and there's no need to give his future political rivals an excuse to paint him as a terrorist. It is this line of thought which, incidentally, motivates Kai to cause as little collateral damage as possible.

Michala "Chala" Cral
right-aligned image

Background: Michala Cral is the youngest daughter of a wealthy Kuat family. Michala's father is the president of a small but successful subcontractor firm that sells electronics to Kuat Drive Yards for use in Imperial Navy ships. Her mother is a senior staffer to the Imperial Governor of Kuat. As a result, the family spent a great deal of time on both Coruscant ("Imperial Center") and Kuat. Michala was educated at an elite private school studying everything from calculus to target shooting, just a few kilometers from the Imperial Senate building. As a consequence of her mother's employ she often found herself in the political districts where she learned that personal advancement could be greatly aided by persuasion and knowing "the right people".

As a teen Michala discovered the Holonet and was immediately smitten with the idea of egalitarian, pseudo-anonymous insterstellar communications. On the holonet you could be anyone, and she was drawn to the pan-galactic shared subculture like a moth to the flame. After a few years she started an amateur political vlog under the handle "Chala". A few yeas after that she'd expanded to covering Coruscanti pop culture and fashion, and her viewership exploded into the millions. Around that time her viewership began to get large enough that it included a few rebel sympathizers who would occasionally spread tales of atrocities being committed by Imperial forces. Chala paid them no mind at first, but when the same started to bubble up amongst her mother's colleagues, it became harder to ignore. She was questioned by Imperial Intelligence, and started carrying a concealed blaster for protection. Whispers of the rebellion being able to challenge the mighty Imperial Navy began to be traded in comment sections on her broadcasts. Chala tried to keep this content out of her broadcasts for fear of running afoul of the authorities, but amongst her viewers there was a growing undercurrent of republican sentiment that began to rub off on her over time.

Studying political science at Imperial University in her early twenties, Chala interned for Senator Bail Organa until the dissolution of the Imperial Senate. After the dissolution, there were rumours of senators being jailed and slated for execution, and then the mainstream media began circulating reports of the destruction of Alderaan. Alderaanian expats on Coruscant held mourning vigils that devolved into riots, followed by mass arrests, beatings, and in some cases extra-judicial executions. Chala was horrified, and worked up the courage to dedicate her next broadcast to covering the crackdowns. She was promptly arrested and charged with "agitation", but the charges were eventually dropped and Chala was released two days later with a split lip and a black eye. Her parents were mortified. Later, over lunch at a café, a senior staffer from the late Senator Bail Organa's office slipped Chala a datachip with a message: the Imperial-controlled media were suppressing reports of a major Naval defeat in the Yavin system, and rebel sympathizers were being rounded up with increasing brutality. The chip also contained a set of galactic coordinates and a name: A Rebel Alliance contact. They needed people like her, the man said. People who could show the galaxy what the Empire truly was, and people who were not afraid of the truth. Chala's conscience could stay silent no more, and she stowed away on the next outbound freighter.

Motivation, goals: Chala Cral is a minor holonet celebrity with a sizable but dispersed group of fans/followers, and she's driven by the dopamine hit that comes from social validation. She also has a strong sense of right and wrong, though she does not always have the courage to stand up or speak out. She is horrified by the destruction of Alderaan and other atrocities committed by the Empire but suppressed by the media. She dreams of "making it big" as an independent journalist and believes that the galaxy will turn away from the Empire writ large, if only someone could show them its true nature. To that end she seeks to become the Rebellion's Voice, its top propagandist.

Personality: She's an outgoing and vivacious person who grew up accustomed to a certain level of luxury and privilege. Years spent in pursuit of ever-larger holonet viewership has made her somewhat superficial; some might call her shallow or naive, but not selfish. She seeks validation and acceptance but isn't accustomed to working hard to get it. She places great emphasis on looks and presentation, or more charitably she understands the value of making a good first impression. Deep down she's got an idealist streak, and truly believes that the media can be a force for good in the galaxy by exposing the truth.

Duty: Making the Rebellion look good, up-close and personal. Propaganda, recruitment, psyops.

In a nutshell: Interstellar Katniss Everdeen gets a Youtube channel, a blaster, and a personality transplant.

Application
right-aligned image

Name: Tekura Tamaar
Race: Omwati
Class: Technician - Slicer

Motivation: Specific Belief - Freedom: Tekura’s parents were slaves of the empire and Tekura was born as a slave. During their period of servitude the imperials abused their position of power and treated them incredibly poorly. Tekura seeks to free others from the tyranny of the empire and being enslaved by them.

Duty: Intelligence - Tekura is not a warrior and he knows it. In a straight up fire fight he is more of a liability than an asset but when it comes to computers he can take down their defences far faster than anyone else he has ever met and unlock their secrets. These secrets can then be used to keep the rebellion safe or to help the true rebel warriors fight.

Description: Tekura stands shy of six foot, he is very lightly built and one might even say he looks fragile. His skin is pale blue in colouration and he lacks even the slightest amount of facial hair, atop his head is a wild mess of pure white hair that is uncontrollable no matter what is done to it, though it may appear to be hair it is actually much more like the feathers of a bird. Tekura's eye are a brilliant deep blue and shine with curiosity, behind those eyes is a brain that is constantly working thinking of new ideas and analysing multiple problems. Tekura dresses in durable clothing that is often messy from engine fuel or the like and it is rare not to see the pockets of Tekura's outfits either stuffed full of tools or spare parts.

Personality: To put it bluntly Tekura is a technological genius though his affinity for machines and computers has resulted in his social skills being rather neglected. Tekura can seem cold and uncaring even ruthlessly calculating at times but that is not true Tekura is actually a very caring individual he just doesn't know how to show it to biological entities. Tekura is much more at home with his head buried in a computer or some complex machine and when he has to actually deal with people he tends to freeze up or become flustered far too easily. In particular Tekura struggles talking to women and in the presence of an attractive woman Tekura can go from an unprecedented genius to a spluttering idiot in a matter of seconds. Tekura also has a tendency to get over excited by technology and discovering a new piece of software or hardware can make the young Omwati wildly excited and begin to talk at a mile a minute in techno babble that few understand. Tekura also paints himself as a rather timid and cowardly pacifist that hates confrontation. Most consider Tekura someone who is easily bullied however while Tekura shies away from physical confrontation he is not one to let himself get walked over without a response. While at the time of confrontation Tekura might seem like a stuttering coward his aggressors will often find that down the road they come off far worse as while Tekura might not fight back physically he often puts his technological skills to work to seek retribution. More than once has some thug picked on Tekura only to find that several days later his account has mysteriously been emptied of credits or his ship has developed an irreparable fault or contracted a computer virus.

Background: Tekura was born aboard an imperial research vessel known as The Catalyst, while officially Tekura's parents were scientists and engineers who willingly served the empire in actuality they were slaves of the empire who were forced to use their brilliant minds to develop weapons and advanced technology to help maintain the empires technological superiority. Tekura's conception and consequent birth had not been authorised by the imperial overseers and as such his parents were harshly punished, fortunately they served too much of an important function aboard the research vessel so it was eventually decided that they would be allowed to keep the child. Tekura was therefore raised in isolation in the Omwati's tiny room with his only contact being with his parents or the caretaker droid that they had built to help look after the child while they were busy working.

For the first few years of his life Tekura saw no one but his parents and instead of toys to play with Tekura had circuit boards, bits of machinery and computers. By the time Tekura was five the inquisitive child was already stripping apart whatever he could get his hands on to discover how it worked. By the time he was eight Tekura had a better understanding of computers and how they worked than most adults four times his age and in order to entertain himself in the small room that was his world he would routinely slice into the ships computer system and absorb all information available to him. By the time he was nine Tekura had worked out the security system on the door to his room and while his parents were at work he would override the controls and sneak out to explore the ship. While this was the boys first glimpse of slight freedom it eventually ended in disaster as he was discovered by one of the ships security teams and badly beaten for being where he was not authorised to be. This first beating at the hands of the imperial security officer led to a distrust and fear of strangers in the boy that would over time gradually grow and become a lot stronger.

When Tekura was ten the vessel he was on were studying supernovas in an attempt to create a new super weapon for the empire, during the research however the vessel drifted too close and the shields were overloaded by an intense burst of radiation badly damaging the ship and killing a large number of the crew. Blaming the accident on Tekura's father the commander Eddard Toth killed him in cold blood. Fearing for her life and the life of her child Tekura's mother Tanaria took the opportunity amongst the chaos to sabotage the ship's engines and sensors and launched all of the escape pods which she sent in different directions. Smuggling aboard one of the escape pods Tekura and his mother eventually managed to make it to FN 13 an orbital station in the Agsalian sector.

With her impressive skills Tanaria easily found work on the orbital station helping to maintain the many computer systems that made life aboard the floating city possible. Free from the research vessel life was for the most part a lot calmer and Tanaria was able to spend more time raising her son.

By the time Tekura was 16 he had begun to work with his mother maintaining the systems aboard FN 13. Tekura's hyper active mind however found the work incredibly easy and somewhat boring so to keep himself entertained the boy would often return to his old past time of slicing whatever he could get his hands on just for the fun of it or setting himself interesting projects like building small droids or mechanical gadgets.

One of Tekura's favourite hobbies was slicing into the stations security systems and observing whoever he found interesting, it was in this way that Tekura first came to the attention of the rebels when by chance he ended up slicing in to the computer of a rebel ship that was passing through.

Heya girlplay! Long time no see! Love the sound of this game.

Gage

G A G E
Chiss Technician (Outlaw Tech)

DutyDuty: Support - Gage doesn't crave glory. He knows what he's good at; outfitting his allies with the best equipment available. Gage throws himself into his work, whether it be constructing droids and gadgets to solve situational problems, hacking a security system to disable enemy turrets, or simply keeping the group's equipment and vehicles well-maintained.
PersonalityPersonality: Perhaps the most well-known chiss in the galaxy is Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose brilliant tactical mind and ruthless approach to dealing with people and military operations have earned him a permanent place in the annals of history.

Gage is NOTHING like that.

A gearhead through and through, this young chiss projects very little confidence when it comes to dealing with people. He is meek, easily distracted, and at his most comfortable at a work bench instead of a social gathering. One personal trait of Gage is his nervous energy. He has a number of ticks and fidgets, mostly involving his hands, and unconsciously moves them almost constantly when he's not paying attention. To occupy himself, Gage has taken to carrying small puzzles and such with him, pulling them out and absent-mindedly playing with them to help him maintain focus when he's in uncomfortable situations.

Despite his difficulty with social situations, Gage's friendship, once won, is strong. A loyal friend, he displays a surprising amount of bravery when it comes to keeping his friends safe. While incapable of holding a blaster without his hands shaking, Gage won't hesitate to hold the line when its necessary, working a wrench or console alike in the thick of a skirmish in order to give his allies the edge.
MotivationMotivation: Gage is not a terribly complicated person. While his overall motivation is to see the end of the Empire’s reign of terror and violence against the galaxy, the thing that truly drives that is his desire to prevent what happened to him once from happening ever again. Gage lost everything the day his ship was attacked. His belongings and money, sure, but also some of his greatest work. Even a few friends too... and it haunts him. Gage is tired of loss, and he is tired of feeling like he has no control of his life or his destiny. He’s not excited about putting himself in harms way, but if the only way to pave a brighter future for himself is by throwing his lot in with the rebels, then so be it.
GoalsGoals:
  • Use his talents to aid the Rebel Alliance in defeating the evil Empire
  • Recreate the advanced droid he was designing before he lost everything
  • Keep his allies alive

Levin Vortess
Levin Vortess
right-aligned image

Species: Human
Career: Soldier (Medic)
Duty: Personnel
Background: An imperial defector to the rebellion. A medic by training, Levin was a wide-eyed recruit who had bought into the propaganda of the empire until he saw for himself the strategies and tactics the empire employed against their enemies... and civilians and alien species. It took him a long time to find an opportunity to leave, but he was able to get himself 'captured' by rebellion forces during an operation and had managed to convince the higher ups that he is sincere in desiring to join their side. His skills as a combat medic would come in handy, at the least, even if they need to keep an eye on him until he proves his trustworthiness.
Personality: Somewhat optimistic despite his profession and having to treat the wounds of war and seeing people die in front of him. Levin is hopeful that his contributions will help mean something in the greater good.
Goals: Prove to the rebellion that he can be trusted. Help keep the rebellion alive.

Here's My character Sheet. I hope I got it all sorted out!

On the very first post, I made a list of what applications we've gotten to date, just to make it easier to visualize them. I'm quite happy with the number of applications! We still have a week for more candidates and for people to finish up what they've written so far. It looks like I'm actually going to have to select down to the players and character to invite. Thank you all for your interest and effort in applying.
Reminder: November 9th is the deadline for applications.

Updated my application with a character sheet. I took an extra 5 points of Obligation if that's allowed? I needed the extra credits to be able to afford the blaster rifle (I imagine, stolen from the Imperials).
