![]() Rindar comes from a large family of dog breeders, trainers and guides living just outside of Mirabar. Many of the dogs they raise stay in the family pulling the sleds that help transport goods between Mirabar and Luskan during the long hard winters while some are sold as guard dogs to warn residents of the many dangers wandering down from the spine of the world. Having grown up in this environment Rindar has learned how to take care of dogs, navigate the wilderness and defend himself and the dogs from the dangers of the north. Over the years Rindar has craved more than just making deliveries and bartering over prices. It was for this reason he took on a job guiding a dwarf into the wilds north of Mirabar. While the dwarf did not find the treasure he sought they did stumble upon some ancient documents and Rindar was hooked on adventure. Among the documents was a strange map and Rindar set out to discover if any truth lay behind it, his favorite pup in tow. RP Sample: “Much warmer here than back home eh boy” says Rindar scooping up the panting husky pup and smiling as it licks his face. He had already traded his winter cloak for provisions with a trader he passed on the road, unfortunately it was another matter for the pup to shed its winter attire. “Here we are, and looks like we got lucky.” Placing the pup back on the ground he pulls the rabbit from the trap and begins preparing it for dinner. The pup sits nearby tongue still lolling though now more from the savory smell of the cook fire than from the heat. Blurb about yourself: I started playing DnD with 3.5 and have been an active player since. After finding this site almost 2 years ago I have been trying to get into long running games with characters I find interesting. I am in three active games now, all of which have continued after the original DM went MIA. I have a good posting record and can and do post nearly every day, when life does get busy I am good about giving a heads up about my posting abilities. And... I think that's everything. I may change a few things here and there, but I would be fine with being reviewed as is currently written.

Hope you're feeling better, Noupatris!
Alas, I think I'm going to have to bow out of this game, as fun as it looks. I won't be able to get online at work any more and since I already got into choc's other game (as you know!) I better limit my # of games. Good luck, you have some interesting characters to work with!

Make sure you get lots of Vit.C, and that your cold medicine has pseudo ephedrine (helps as well as prevents drowsiness), and add chili to your food if it tastes bland. P.s: Some countries only allow medicine with said pseudo ephedrine without a prescription, so if you can't that's fine, caffeine is a good alternative (augments the effect of acetaminophen and Ibprofen). I'm a med student who gets a lot of colds...

I second the recommendation for caffeine. It fixes everything.

yeeeaaah, and just as I had typed this my best friend called and we talked away a couple of hours
![]() however, now it is done ![]() Don't hesitate to shout at me for mistakes and/or omissions but I think I have everything shipshape! - thanks again for the well-wishes and the medical advice ![]() - So, there is an exiting seven days to go and I'm really looking forward to putting a group together!! I've so far held back from diving to deep into the characters so that everyone will have an equal chance and to make sure I don't fall in love with any or all characters too soon ![]() And I have determined how I will kick the AP off: I don't know if you're aware of this but as written it is meant for level 3 characters and yet we start with level 1s ![]() Well, for one it is much easier to review character sheets of level 1s (hahaha) and for another it comes with a final chapter of stuff to do for lower level chars (it even has a section how to transition characters from the lost mines of phandelin (spelling?) to this one, which is cool, too) Anyways: this stuff to do is quite a cool start to the adventure proper, while not strictly necessary to do. But I really wanted to DM those parts :P also it has However, I slighty changed it up to integrate it even more with the main AP and to provide you with different leads to pursue after, in any order you like. Also maybe another blurb about the sandboxyness of the overall adventure: it has, much akin to an online mmorpg or something, "zones" of differing lethality, with the DM-hint to steer the characters in slightly different directions, should they insist to go there too soon. I, however, will try to avoid such a thing and instead will mercilessly slaughter all of you ![]() ![]() (this is also the reason why also: my name is not chocoladevla :P ![]() ![]() ![]() So, whew, long wall of text, thanks for reading it, have a cookie ![]() Last edited by Noupatris; Jan 25th, 2016 at 06:09 PM. |

Hi there,
I’m definitely interested in throwing in an application – the module sounds great and with all the hooks and factions, seems like there’s tons of stuff going on. Just wanted to ask a question though about tone…reason being that I’ve had a couple of ideas for characters and in choosing which to pitch, wanted to check what was appropriate – specifically whether the slightly…..unusual concept would fit the tone, or whether to go for a more standard concept. So the very loose concept is instead of the archetypal Hero with a magic Sword/Ring/Hat….I’m proposing a Sword/Ring/Hat with a magic hero….So the item contains the character personality, and the person is just the means by which it gets carried about. Mechanically, I’d weave the concept into the class abilities and use some of the first level skills to define how my character would interact properly without hampering the game (e.g the Warlock’s Awakened Mind ability for telepathic communication)……and this isn’t intended to be a weird or wacky/silly idea…rather a sort of different take on physical limitations and character background. So yeah….just wanted to see if this is something you don’t mind, or if it doesn’t match your intended tone? Cheers Hillsy |

Hey, Hillsy:
just wanted to make sure that I understand you correctly: the character idea you have is basically a self-aware magic item of some sort who uses a random person as a "host" for its heroics? ![]() as for my tone: I think it will be sometimes serious, sometimes funny, sometimes a bit dark ![]() ![]() Last edited by Noupatris; Jan 26th, 2016 at 09:40 AM. |

In a nutshell, yes - The exact nature of the "Random" person is based entirely on your preference, as I can weave it through the various class abilities. So for example, the Warlock's Pact of the chain gives a familiar....a sorcerer/wizard also has access to the find familiar spell.....and while this isn't a person, per say, it could be a dog/cat/eagle/other mundane animal that acts as a vehicle. Conversely, if you felt a specific racial character was in order, then perhaps something with illusions would work. And failing that - just a general person who has fallen foul of, say, an intellect devourer and is a handy empty vessel to ride around in - this would open up the martial classes as well (Albeit looking at the party distribution, the arcane side of things looks a bit under represented)....
Basically I'm not trying to game the system or anything - just trying to come up with a cool, unique concept....=0).....And obviously I'll come up with an indepth backstory to explain hwo this has all come to pass... |
