From the Four Corners (TavernTalesRPG)

Game NameFrom the Four Corners: A Tavern Tale
Game SystemOther Roleplaying Games
ThemeHigh Fantasy Medieval
FlavourSandbox Exploration
Plot SummaryThis game will be using the new Tavern Tales RPG system. Version 1.01. (www.taverntalesrpg.com)

The story will be player driven and focus on a small team of adventurers in a high fantasy medieval sandbox setting.

The setting will be typical high fantasy, and much of the world-building will occur in-character and be determined by the players, both before and during the game. Tavern Tales is built around this concept to make it easier to start playing right away.

The main goal of this game is to run an experimental game for this new RPG system.

Post frequency It's going to be a relatively slow game, so post frequency might only be 1 a day from me (probably more) which leaves 4 players posting once every few days.
Feel free to make your character and post it here. Once we have enough characters we can see how they work together. I want to leave it open to any character builds everyone can come up with that fit well together in the same setting.

Character CreationSince the Tavern Tales offers so much potential for customization. Feel free to think creatively. To make things easier for me, I might borrow a lot from the world off of a game I like www.poxnora.com which has everything from Sentient Bears, Turtles, Tigers, and Dogs, to Centaurs, Elves, Dark Elves, Flying Eskimos, Barbarians, Zombies, and Dwarves. The point is... don't feel restricted in any way. If you come up with something I feel wont work, I'll let you know. If people want to design their characters for a more standard fantasy setting, we can go that direction too. It's all up to you guys.Mostly I just want to see what people come up with when they have few restrictions, before we decide on standards for the world.

Great! If your interested in a web-based character sheet. Most of the players will be using this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...mOE/edit#gid=0

It'll be nice having someone more experienced with RPG crossing in the game.

I am reading through traits right now and can I just say Holy crap. This is a very fun system and I tip my hat to you for being brave and trying it out.

Hey everyone.

Here's my tentative character sheet. This isn't a finalized character by any means, and I'd be open to modifying it to better suit the campaign. I'm also fairly new to RPG Crossing (but not to online roleplaying in general), so I might mix up my formatting a few times before I get the hang of it.

Looking forward to playing some Tavern Tales with you all.

I have to look at what I can do but probably will make someone who has several copies of himself.

This looks like a great system for collaborative role playing...the dice are almost superfluous.

I'll have to give some thought to this and see if I can come up with something fun and unique for a character. The upside to it is that the possibilities are pretty much endless...the downside is that the possibilities are pretty much endless

So Tea will be going with the standard starting 10 xp and could you combine traits into one thing ie use war machine and mount to build a mechanical dragon?

Yes, Tea is using the standard character creation options (10 xp, 3 CN, 2 treasure).

I think the intent of those traits is that each would be a separate entity (especially as War Machine explicitly replaces the attributes of its pilot), but there's nothing that says the Mount trait has to grant a biological mount.

I don't think you would need to combine. War machine would be sufficient. As a rider, you would just count as a pilot.

The only issue with it right now is that I would say you wouldn't have enough "materials" described to construct such a device. After you guys start collecting treasure, sure.
Actually, I think I see what you mean now. You want to use the "Mount" trait to create a dragon mount... but you want it to be more like the War Machine trait, requiring a pilot.

I think that would be fine. Just take the War-machine trait without bothering to combine them. We'll just assume you already have the materials. Just keep in mind that I wouldn't really let it be much larger than a standard horse/mount.

Edit:

I think Tefmon has it right. It all depends on what you want to do with it. I think war-machine's advantage is its ability to replace your stats, for example: gaining defensive abilities that would protect the pilot. I don't think you need both, and the main point is flexability... so just go with what you feel is more thematically and logically appropriate for what your imagining.

Ok makes sense anyway was thinking of going with a beast master that sows destruction with his minions.

Hey there! Here's my submission. If something's not right, just tell me: I haven't had the time to read the full 1.01 rules (I'd read an earlier version).

The quick version: a warlord demon who was cursed by a long-forgotten god after he defiled one of the god's shrines. That curse brought him emotions he never felt before: compassion and guilt. He suddenly felt compassion to the numerous mortals he'd killed and feels the need to somehow make amends to the world; also, the god in question is trying to use him to bring his worship back into the world. But he's still a large, horned demon with a terrible temper who's not quite ready to be nice to everyone, and seeing as how everyone is afraid of him it's not a simple job.

Just a quick thing, to actually use an item as a weapon it needs at least one of the 'Melee', 'Ranged', or 'Thrown' item traits, which none of your starting items seem to have. You might want to remove 'Flashy' from your Skull whip and replace it with one of those. You also get to start with "enough similar, miscellaneous items to occupy 1 inventory slot."

Other than that, it looks like you did everything right.

"Hit him with your whip!!!"
"Oh it's not for fighting. It's just supposed to look flashy."
