No worries. I would have let you know if I thought it wasn't worth considering.

Application list is up-to-date once more. 16 complete with 3 more in progress and 1 interest post.

BasicsName: Naeryndam ‘Ryn’ Khalid
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Rogue, but hoping to become an Warlock (Archfey)
Background: Cloistered Scholar (Vault of the Sages)
Alignment: Chaotic Good

Appearance and TraitsAppearance: Just under 5 feet tall, and just over 100 pounds, Ryn is slight, contained, controlled. He is meticulous about his appearance, and usually wears a gold hoop in each ear lobe, and a dark, pointed goatee. At 57 he’s prematurely balding, and shaves and waxes his head. It is only on his scalp that his father’s blue skin peeks through the copper he got from his mother. On special occasions he wears eyeshadow to highlights his bluish scalp and green-gold eyes.

Personality Traits: An extrovert to the core, I often make myself the center of attention.
I’m self-effacing, and love to burst over-inflated egos.
Bond: I’m suspicious of institutions, but I’d risk my life for a friend.
Ideal: Everyone should have a chance to fulfil their personal potential. For me, that means using magic.
Flaws: I care far too much about physical appearances, both my own and others.

BackstoryOne dark winter’s afternoon when he was 14, Ryn Khalid did two things he’d never done before, and hasn’t repeated since. That day, Ryn not only met his father, he used magic.

Ryn’s mother Saida was a Calishite artist living in Athkatla, the capital of Amn, where arcane magic is forbidden and elves are few and far between. His father Naeryndam, a moon elf, had wanderlust so severe that a week in one place counted as a long stay. Naeryndam had not kept in touch, and unaware he had a son, had dropped in to check on Saida while passing through. Things were unbearably awkward until Ryn asked him about magic. Naeryndam conjured three glowing lights in the air, and spun them slowly around Ryn. Ryn reached out and grabbed one, and found that now he had control of the shining sphere. He sent it whirling between the kitchen chairs and spinning around his mother, who barely managed a hiss between her giggles: “Stop it! Sune help us all if the neighbors see!” For the rest of the evening, they were a family. In the morning, Naeryndam was gone again.

From then on Ryn’s life goal was to use magic, to touch the weave. In Amn, the easiest route to this was through a church, and Ryn spent the next decade as an acolyte of Sune. Ryn fell into depression as the long years of study brought him no closer to the weave, and eventually Jaffle Miller, a member of his mother’s bohemian circle, laid out an alternative path. “There’s this ... demon, see. It sounds bad, but he’s taught me so much. He could teach you, too.”

For a week, Ryn tortured himself with the offer, but in the end, he valued his freedom more than magic. Becoming a warlock would only justify Amn’s oppressive view of magic. But Jaffle‘s offer jolted Ryn out of the rut he’d been stuck in. Within a moon, Ryn had left Amn.

Ryn wandered for nearly two decades, searching for his father and using his considerable charm to cadge lessons from any magic users he met. He spent a year as apprentice to Quatalock the gnomish artificer before being replaced by another protege -- Ryn wasn’t smart enough. He learned fencing and acrobatics from Merzen Thom, the dwarven bard, but no magic -- Ryn couldn’t hold a tune. He pestered any sorcerers about how their power worked -- Ryn didn’t have the spark. He consulted half a dozen druids and rangers, but none would take him on -- Ryn was a city boy, and had no love of nature. He prayed to other gods, and became an acolyte to Mythras in Waterdeep -- but no deity would lend their power to Ryn.

Ryn’s mother fell ill, and he returned to Athkatla to nurse her through the last months of her life. Most of his mother’s friends were already dead, and the warlock Jaffle half mad. There was nothing left for him in Amn.

Ryn moved to Silverymoon and proceeded to fail out of every wizard’s school in town. In the past, he would have moved on at this point, but he found himself wanting to stay. Wandering had made Ryn lonely, and Silverymoon had a large population of half-elves like him. He conned his way into a job as a librarian in the Vault of Sages, where he studies books he technically shouldn’t have access to, and has formed a tight-knit group of friends. Ryn has mostly stayed put in Silverymoon for a decade now, disappearing only occasionally to see if this or that eldritch knight or arcane trickster has the secret that will finally let him use magic again.

Recently, Ryn’s found another lead in the Vault of Sages: “Soren Stenehjem: Titania’s Courtier” -- the history of a dwarven warlock who had served the Seelie court. Though Ryn had balked at serving a demon, the Archfey seemed mostly benevolent, and matched his personal style. Becoming a warlock would be a loss of personal freedom, but at this point he’d tried basically every other way to learn magic. Though having a home was great, it’d been a while since he’d had a good ramble. Perhaps another journey was in order...

I read it over. Let's see how it plays out. I am intrigued enough by the mechanics to give it a shot.

With these two applications, we are now up to 18 complete.

GinJapan, I wonder what you think about a Deaf Character? I wanted to be a wizard and I justified how she learned the arcane arts though the deaf people aren't good about using their voice or capable of speaking properly. (Like the use of and Familiar to hear how she speak and arrange the sound to learn to cast spell with her voice or how she use the spell of minor Illusion to speak with other using her teacher's voice).

I'm aware of the terrible flaws that a deaf have to bear as a Deaf person (like the automatic fails in perception checks in hearing though she can understand people Because since she was a child she learned to read people's lips. SO she have the Observant feat) but I want to play that kind of character for the challenge that might bring upon her!

You're welcome to try any type of character that you wish. I won't discount anyone without reading the application first. I'm not using variant humans, so the Observant feat wouldn't be available (at least, not at first level), but we could work something out, I'm sure.

Well... The only part of observant feat I need is:

[SAY]If you can see a creature’s mouth while it is speaking a language you understand, you can interpret what it’s saying by reading its lips./SAY]

So I find pretty interesting to work out in that part about it. Like she can read lips but not that accurate until she got the feat?

I was thinking she use the familiar to learn the verbal part of the spell because like when you use a spell she repeat the same word always. And for talking she use the minor spell because she tend to speak like a 2 years child and she feel embarrassed to someone knows about it.

I've been trying to come up with an idea for a character for a while but nothing has clicked. One question that might help though, what exactly constitutes a "monstrous" race?

Since variant humans are a no-go, I will be switching Crow's race to Wood Elf. Will edit character sheet accordingly.

You would always be welcome, Palladia. By that, I just meant the traditionally villainous races, such as orcs, goblins, minotaurs, etc. I'd make an exception for drow since they are in the PHB. Half-orcs, dragonborn and the like are fine.

Noted. I'll make the change to the table when I get to my computer. Editing posts on my phone is a pain.

History: Originally from Mirabar, Thovik was assigned to protect a shipment of ore leaving port in Luskan for Waterdeep. The ship was set upon by pirates shortly after leaving port and boarded. The crew was offered the choice of death or piracy, Thovik chose to live. Not long after the pirate ship set sights on what appeared to be a merchant vessel that turned out to be a group of priests heading north to offer their service in vile Luskan. As a terrible storm blew in, the pirate captain ordered the death of all the priests. Thovik could remain in chains no longer and challenged the captain. As he raised his hammer to deliver a strike, lightning split the sky into Thovik who then channeled the energy through his hammer into the pirate captain killing the villain.

The stunned crew swore some deity had blessed Thovik and relinquished control of the ship to him. He directed the vessel to Waterdeep and left the sea behind. He spent some time working odd jobs in a local theatre, allowing wizards to experiment on him, and acquiring a nasty gambling habit. After a bad experience with some bookies left him bloodied and broken, Thovik retreated into the mountains to ponder his life. Returning from his self imposed exile, he found a temple and dedicated himself to Marthammor Duin, the dwarven god of guides, travelers, expatriots, explorers, and lightning.

Thovik has recently left the temple and Waterdeep to head back north, serve Marthammor Duin, and perhaps return home to face his failure.
